Traeger Terrible wifire performance, worthless tech support, horrible customer service

The short version is this: this has truly been one of the worst customer experiences of my life. I was very excited to get my new Traeger 575. I specifically chose this model because of the wifire functionality. Unfortunately it has been INCREDIBLY disappointing. I been working for WEEKS to get it to connect to the app. I went through all of their online troubleshooting guides, factory resets, etc. Nothing. I called customer service only to wait on hold for over 2 hrs. The rep was very friendly and walked me through his troubleshooting process. Nothing. He told me he was going to escalate this to their IT team and I should expect a call in 3-5 business days. It’s been over 2 weeks. Nothing. I called back in and waited another 2 hrs, spoke to another friendly rep, repeated the same steps. Nothing. I called Ace hardware to initiate a return. Because I ordered it online from Ace it actually drop ships from Traeger. The Ace guy called the regional manager for Traeger and explained my situation. The Traeger guy told me that I can’t return it just because I don’t like it, and suggested I call tech support again. Don’t like it?! It doesn’t work! This has truly been one of the most disappointing customer service experiences of my life. I’ve listed it for sale on Craigslist and will replace it with a Rec Tec.

Traeger Frustrating customer service- poor quality smoker

Ive owned my Traeger timberline 1300 for about 2 1/2 years - I’ve used it maybe 40 times. Fourth of July weekend control box goes out I called Traeger they’re going to “expedite” a new control box for me with an easy video on how to install it. They tell me they will “Expedite” shipping- I should have it in two days. It shows up in six it’s the wrong control box I ran off the entire serial number of the smoker to the customer rep somehow that didn’t get him the right control box Information. So I called back they tell me they will give me the right control box and they’ll see if they can “expedite”it - it shows up another five days later. I install the new control box plug in my smoker now there’s no flame - I call Traeger back customer rep is going to expedite again my part apparently I need a “hot rod” i’m told again I can look up a YouTube video that will give me easy to install instructions. Keep in mind again I have used this smoker maybe 40 times and now I’m a Traeger mechanic. There’s a three-year warranty on this Traeger 1300 that is not a cheap smoker and I’m investing my time energy and effort into fixing their poor product. No compensation -apologies work the first time around NOT the third or fourth time around. This is extremely frustrating and very I am very disappointed. I’ve recommended the smoker to countless people - those days are done.

Traeger Fifty first dates with my Traeger

For the love! WHAT did you do?

1. The app doesn’t remember my grill no matter how many times I pair it.

2. No matter what we do it cannot find our wifi even though it is sitting right next to the modem with 225 mbps service. I can stream from my exercise equipment and TV that are actually father away from the modem with no problem.

3. I can NO longer run the shut down mode at the end of our use. The app says it is shutting down the grill - the grill never receives the command. There is no way to enter shutdown mode on the control panel on on our 780 - have to unplug it.

4. It doesn’t send ANY notifications to the app from the grill. Examples: timer, pellet sensor, temperature, done preheating etc.

5. Recipes are a HOT freaking mess. Did ANYONE there have the knowledge of basic cooking for the updates to the recipes? How the heck are you expecting anyone to find anything?

6. I’m so disgusted with this app I wish I could give it negative ratings.

And thanks for taking away the community notes - it is nice to know how other people are tweaking things - like a community learning from on other - I thought Traeger would want a ‘Traeger community’? Maybe not.

Fix the app! If the app is too difficult to use, people will stop using your products. And we will use our Great Green Egg instead for things we would have normally used our Traeger for.

Traeger What wi-fire ???

Wi-fire does not exist for me. I have been trying for 7 months to connect my grill to my home network. Apple router and iPhone running the most current iOS. Tried turning off my 5ghz channel New names new passwords. WiFire does not work and the only option I see on traeger a website for support is a mailing adress. No email , no customer support option. No advice in FAQ for WiFire connection problems like mine.
Update. I contacted traeger and the advice I got was that my grills firmware was not current. To update the firmware all I have to do is leave the grill turned on (with the power switch ) for 6 hours and the firmware will update. I asked “was it some magical power that will somehow update my firmware “ (since it is definitely not connected to my WiFi network) the traeger associate on the other end of the phone told me yes it was “kinda like that”. I asked a couple of times what magic it was that was going to update my firmware and she could only explain that it was like when your computer updates itself ?! WHAT ? Come on traeger. Magic ? I asked her to have someone else call me if that was all she had. I am still waiting for that return call. I contacted on the morning of May 15. Maybe when someone reads this they will wiggle their nose and update my firmware for me.

Traeger Poor customer service

I purchase a Texas elite 8 months ago, I like it, so I purchased the new Traeger Timberline, very disappointed, I pre ordered it early, I was the 3rd on the list so I had in time to BBQ for the this holiday weekend. I drove 3 hours round trip and got it ready and the unit didn't work, I called and they sent me replacement dan that I have to install myself and never got sent out on time so had to cxl my BBQ and lost 400 worth of food, so this weekend I reschedule and repurchased the food still waiting for my replacement and was told it will be here, well it's this weekend and it's not here and now I have cxl again the BBQ and waisted food, I called and the tracking information Traeger gave me was at the post office I called post office and well they don't have my product to pick up, I called Traeger and Jamie was not helpful, it took 7 calls to Traeger to have Jamie call me back and jeremy tried to help but very poor customer service, they didn't care that there new product wasn't working and that I had to cxl my BBQ 2 times, no help or care they just said I don't know what to tell you, it was shipped. You know how it feels to waste food and money canceling 2 bbq's and for Traeger not to make any efforts, I drove to ups and usps looking for my package because Traeger isn't any help! Very unhappy! I have 2 stars only cause the Texas elite is a good but very dissatisfied with the Timberline! The grill isn't what you expect...

Traeger Don’t Break Cardinal Rule

Loved the app. Then I updated it and lost my saved cooks. Timing, steps, move to next step at timer or probe.

Don’t take away functionality after it has been made public. I want automation. If the grill is smart enough to handle automation, then why remove it from use? Redesigning the look and feel is ok but I’d prefer function over aesthetics.

Also, What’s with the removal of the timer notification? When the timer reaches 0:00, I would expect some sort of notification. Who looks at the app continuously to know when a timer reaches zero? I would expect an audible noise, a banner notification and/or a vibrate if I have the phone on silent. All of that — gone. So why would I use the timer in the app when I could just use Apple’s timer?

Those two features working in conjunction are what made my cooks enjoyable and automated. I could leave a pork butt on 225 for three hours and then automatically bump up the temperature to 250 degrees until the probe read 160 internal temp, and then move on to the next step. Now I can’t do any of that. Don’t get me started on the process I had for brisket.

But hey! I can watch videos! Seriously?!?

You took the app from great to good. The book’s title is called “Good to Great”. Restore the previous functionality of the app, please. UX is what will keep me as a customer. Instead, it feels like marketing gone wild with the push to sell product within the app and videos that I can consume elsewhere.

Traeger Do not buy into the hype

I do not get the hype about Traeger. I bought the Silverton 620 and the food does taste good, but the Traeger experience is waaaay overrated.

(1) My thermometer is about 20 degrees high, even after calibrating the probe. I almost killed my family during Thanksgiving by seriously undercooking my turkey.

(2) My grill is not dependable. My grill misfired on my third time using it. I had to tear it apart, vacuum everything out, and try again. Even now it feels temperamental and I wonder if the grill will work for me or not.

(3). Finally, the app is pretty basic and has very limited functionality. I just needed to update my Wi-Fi network, and I could not do it through the app. I needed to reset the grill (hold in button for 10 seconds on Wi-Fi screen, power down, reset, etc) and start over as though I was starting a brand new setup. This process should have been much easier through the app.

I do like that I can set the grill temperature and monitor the probe temperature from the Traeger app on my phone. It would be even better if I could trust the probe temperature.

At the end of the day, you have to hand it to Traeger. They have marketed their product well and convinced me and many other people to “drink the Kool-Aid” (I.e. buy their extremely expensive grills that have many functional issues).

If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t have made this Traeger purchase, and would have spent my hard-earned money elsewhere.

Traeger Latest update step back in UI and Clicks

While the last update was decent and centered more in your grill. This update puts your grill information at the bottom and everything else is tough to get to with so many more clicks. I am not sure who wrote the user stories and laid out the UI, but the number of clicks to get to anything remotely useful is way worse than the previous version.

Let’s walk through one of the scenarios, recipes. In the previous version it was accessible in the main menu and with one touch I could be performing contextual searching. Now with the new update you click recipes, then you would think selecting the search magnifying glass you would be presenting with search context that should auto populate as you type and do contextual search. This is not the case you have another step that is added. If you mistype or what to add to that search it has become a label and you need to start over. Poor design choices.

So many other things gone wrong in the update, the other big what the moment is making the focus of the app on selling items instead of your grill that you probably paid thousands. Who would ever put a small bar at the bottom of al this screen space with the most important information. The screen use is now cluttered and no way to focus on the instruments that you are needing to see at a glance or far away like your probe temperature.

Only way to really fix this one is to roll back to the previous version and try to to focus on users instead of marketing.

Traeger Traeger app didn’t work until firmware updated to 02.00.01

July 7, Purchased Timberline 850:
Just got a Timberline 850 and was excited to get it going. Imagine my disappointment to find that, as so many others have reported, the app does not connect to the grill. After many attempts, I was able to get the grill to connect to my home WIFI network only to find that the app could not control the grill or download recipes to it as advertised. Traeger support acknowledged that the app is “broken” and hoped that it would be fixed by Monday, July 9th. I am using iOS 11.4 and the grill’s controller firmware is 01.01.05.

July 13, Still not working:
Several calls to Traeger support with no solution. One support person said he would send an email to corporate to elevate the issue. We will see if that amounts to anything.

July 16, Grill firmware auto updated to 02.00.01 — now working:
I was gone for the weekend. The main power switch for the grill was off but the power cord was plugged in. The controller on the grill auto updated the firmware from version 01.01.05 to 02.00.01 and the app now connects and controls the grill. Same app, just updated controller firmware. Lesson learned — even though the power switch is off, the controller is active and communicating on the WIFI network. It would be good if the user’s manual explained what state the grill needs to be in to perform auto updates.

If you are having connection issues, check the controller firmware version and if not the latest, call support and ask them to force an update.

Traeger Hit or miss, trust me just check on your grill

I have the Traeger pro 575 with the d2 wifire, it only has a 2.4ghz wi-Fi antenna so to connect I had to change my WiFi settings to split the signal and then change it back, this also means that it doesn’t do the longer range 5ghz or the more versatile Bluetooth; Also it only has one temp probe port which is all very limiting and disappointing considering the Traeger markup.

I don’t usually post harsh reviews but the last straw isn’t just an unreliable app, it’s also knowing they’re working on other apps with better features and knowing there’re better app features out there. The Traeger / meater app lets you select the cut and gives you an estimated time of doneness and there is another app that gives you a graph of the time and temp.

The biggest deal is the app is just not reliable it goes from never loading on my apple watch to rarely loading on the phone and out of those times it does work the accuracy isn’t always updated half the time inputs like timers or temperature changes don’t work / send over, so it’s hard to trust the accuracy when nothing is consistent. I love my Traeger even if the lid isn’t flush and it needs the bottom shelf, front shelf, GrillGrate, *GriddleGrate, & cover
*optional if you wanna sear little or messy things

I knew there would be a wait till the app was perfected but give me a break it’s been awhile and honestly at this point even if the app worked perfect your still gonna be better off walking outside and checking on the grill trust me.

Traeger Based on app only

6/30: been working with the developers for a few month. They added the grill icon in the menus bar to fix the broken Nav Bar that will not open to adjust temp etc. updated to 3 stars for developers working with me to fix the issue and giving me the control of the grill again from the phone. Would like to still see the Nav Bar work and would like to see the overall app not be so cluttered with videos and have the focus on cooking controls. Thank for working with me and providing a workaround to the issue.
3/27: For Developer UUID801F123DAFDD, SW VER: T2.01.01, CONFIG VER: 07.006, Timberline 1300. 3/9 Update: great you added the watch support. Still don’t get proper notifications and why can’t u fix the app on the phone using most current iOS on a iPhone 12 Pro Max and I still can’t use the app. Can’t set a temp or adjust temp, can’t set or adjust probe temp, can’t use super smoke and more from the app. And no one from support has gotten back to me after multiple conversations. I am also not the only one with this problem. Hire real developers. The app has failed me. I can’t adjust the temp, probe temp, super smoke, or timer. That is extremely frustrating. Renders the app useless and negates the point of Wi-Fi. They can’t even send push notifications to an iPhone 12max pro running the latest software. Don’t get me started on traeger not having a app for the watch either. The company support is a complete joke. After buying the Timberline I now will be returning my purchase and going with a company that hires real engineers to produce a working app.

Traeger Meh

Where do I start? I can’t simply search for a recipe, have to scroll and scroll, sure hope I remember to favorite it or it’s scroll and scroll again. If there IS a way to search, it should be more obvious.

I get a notification on my phone when the grill completes shutdown, but not when the grill reaches temperature or when the timer finishes, both of which I care way more about.

Why can’t two people log in to the grill? My husband has to log in as me? Back to recipes. Personally, I find it really tedious to have to swipe through each step of a recipe while I’m cooking. Just show the whole recipe and skip the snazzy UI.

In general, the recipes are poorly written, with conflicting or missing information. “2 1/2 tablespoons pepper, divided” but we’re not told divided how nor when to use each portion. Some recipes state two different temperatures.

And how about a table with standard cooking times for various types of food. I was expecting to find everything I need in the app. The photos are nice and certain aspects of the app are slick, but basic features fall short.

Why doesn’t the timer ding in the app? I hear it from the grill, but do I have to stand out there (in the cold) to hear it?

The grill is good, we’re not having the WiFi issues that others are, but I’m not seeing more than one star for this app. One of the worst apps I’ve used. It annoys me more every time I use it, yet the convenience of being able to see the temperature of the grill and the probe while I’m getting the rest of the meal together makes me come back to it. One star for that single basic function. Sorry to be mean.

Traeger Sorry about the poor review

I have no choice but to give a one star rating. I bought the Silverton 810 at a Costco Roadshow on 7/30. I was excited about the option of monitoring/controlling my new Q from my phone. I am writing this review today, 8/29, because it literally took Traeger an entire month, with multiple replacement controllers and about 30 phone calls to connect my grill to the WiFi. The option to write a review only pops up after the grill gets connected. Since it took one month to connect the grill, you get an auto one star review. Now, to the customer service. Each technician gives their own version of what needs to be done, and most of these technical gems completely contradicts the call before, so that’s a lot fun. Please note, I wouldn’t have know this, but 80% of the calls get disconnected, so you have to keep calling back over and over again to troubleshoot. Each call gets you closer and closer to not solving the problem... Technically, I haven’t cooked anything yet since repairing my brand new grill, since I just got this think working correctly. However, I did try a brisket while waiting for parts. I smoked it for three hours at 180 to get it going per Traeger instructions without opening the lid. When I did finally check on it, I found the temp was way off. Customer service let me know that if the controller was not functioning correctly than it could effect temperature control...perhaps if I call back, they will say something completely different.

Here’s the end game. I am an old experienced back yard grilling/bbqing warrior. I have won bbq contests, chili cook offs, and I will not let this dang hunk o junk beat me. I will also update this review when I have had a chance to put it to the test, now that it is (hopefully) working correctly. If it blows up further, I’m coming back to take away my one star...party on!

Traeger Just not ready

Ok - so i have had the Traeger for the summer. I picked it up at ACE on sale a week in advance of the Memorial Holiday.

Put it together. Started to try it out and could not get ignition.

Called customer service and trouble shot until it was decided a new controller was needed. Not a single grill at this point.

Was told to go to the authorized repair and get a new one. The dealer does not carry extra inventory and he commented "i have no idea why they tell customers that; it is not how it works". Also know - during covid you would have to bring the grill in. Seriously?

Called back to the center and they prormised the would express ship a controler so i could grill for the holiday. They sent it standard ground. We ate rice and beans that day.

Did the controller exchange - easy

Now to a couple structural issues in design.
1 - be mindfull of lifting the lid too fast or placing stress on the hing. It bends and will not close properly. Couple suggestions: use three hinges on the lid. Add a second hinge catcher on the other side of the grill. The current structure is simple but cheap and not sufficient.

The end result of he bent hinge lid is tht the lid does not close tight. Forcing the grill to burn hotter and lose smoke faster. May add the lever to lock the grill down to minimize airflow loss. Note - strong, and i mean strong, magnets dont work as, as i have learned, heat weakens magnetism. Might work for a use or two. Then, big gap between the lid to grill again. I now use a 20 pound dumbbell to try to keep the lid closed during cooking.

I have lost connection to the grill via wifi and can seem to find away to go through shut down without it. Might be user error. Need to see. Should be a trivial task done anywhere.

It is a fun grill, but in reality, expected something much more thought out.

Regards,

Hoping for better.

Traeger Love it but needs a few tweaks

Love my Timberline 850 Gen 1. The app is good but needs a few changes (my phone is an iPhone X):
-The alerts are not working on my iPhone. Yes, I have notifications enabled for the app.
-When I switch to another app, the Traeger app is disconnected from the grill and has to reconnect when I switch back. Maybe this is why notifications are not working.
-Once a recipe is loaded and it is running on the grill, the full recipe should be viewable via a button in the grill status page by the current temperatures. Helpful to remember ingredients of sauce or glaze or other recipe items.
-There should be an alert when the grill completes a step of a recipe and it should ask you if you want to go to the next step or extend the current step for a selectable amount of time. Sometimes you need to extend the cook time if meat is not at desired temperature (if using external temperature probe or multiple thermometers) or you had to take the meat out to wrap in foil and need to extend the current step time.
-When a recipe completes, there should be an alert telling you recipe is done but also allows you to put the grill in keep warm mode (default), keep cooking at the current temperature or new temperature, or shut down the grill.
-Ability to add a task when a recipe completes, such as enter warm mode or shutdown the grill. This is especially useful when not using the Wifire app.
-When the grill is cooking, if power is lost and restored, the grill should send you an alert saying power was lost and ask if you want to resume cooking (without having to press the ignite button).
-When a recipe is cooking, you should be able to edit the current step time and have it take effect on the grill immediately, just like how you can change the current temperature setpoint.
-There should be a menu setting for adjusting the preheat time. The default preheat time is not near long enough and the temperature fluctuates before becoming stable. I've learned to just start the grill at the temperature of the first step in a recipe and let the grill temperature stabilize before I start a recipe.

Traeger It’s a Hot Mess Express

I’ve had such a hard time with this app. I really want to love it because I love my Traeger, but printing recipes is complicated when it really shouldn’t be. There is no “Print Recipe” button, so instead, I have to copy and paste the link into my Notes app, follow the link, and hit “Print Recipe” from the Traeger.com website. It’s so unnecessary and makes the app unpleasant to use.

On top of all that, my brand new Silverton 620 Traeger will NOT connect to the app. I bought a WiFi extender because the app said my grill didn’t have a strong enough signal. Now my phone has a great WiFi connection when I’m outside, but the Traeger is still not connecting. I’ve called support, and they suggested I try installing the app on a different device and connecting it from there. I tried on 2 iPhones and an Android...still no luck. Y’all, I’ve tried moving the grill to about 10 feet away from my WiFi extender and it STILL will not connect. Looking through the reviews, I’m not the only one with this issue either. I paid a considerable amount of money for this grill, and the WiFi feature doesn’t work. It would be so handy if it did, but it just doesn’t. I’m so disappointed.

My third comment is not about the app, but the website. I haven’t deducted points from my review for this, but I don’t know how else to give feedback to the company. The website needs an area where I can find my saved recipes. I log in to my account on my desktop, and there’s no way to find my saved recipes. Or, If there is a way to find my saved recipes, it’s impossible to find. It’s a pain. I just need one or the other to work.

The interface of the app is fine. It’s eye catching and organised, but my complaints still stand.

Overall, the app (and the website) aren’t terribly user friendly. My mother prints out recipes all the time, and it’s been really hard for her to figure out how to do that with this app, and she’s unable to connect her grill, too. Traeger, please make your app and website a bit more user friendly for those of us looking for recipes...and hoping our grill. Which, you know, was a selling point for most of us! Thank you!

Traeger Continued App Issues

This app has the potential to really make the WiFire a major upgrade over previous Traeger models, but it currently doesn’t work to its potential. Currently the app can only be reliably used to check the temperature inside the Traeger grill and the temperature of the meat probe. Notifications often don’t work. If you set a timer or meat probe temperature, the Traeger grill will beep when finished, and I have set notifications turned on on my iPhone, but the app notifications don’t reliably work on the iPhone. Often they will come 30 minutes late, which is long enough to ruin a good price of meat.

The app recipes are great, but they don’t work very well in real time. The app doesn’t allow time to carry out steps. For instance, some recipes say to preheat the Traeger to 350° and allow it to stay at temperature for 15 minutes before putting the meat on the grill, and then grill on one side for 30 minutes, adjust the temperature and turn the meat over for 20 minutes. Here is where the app fails. When the Traeger heats to 350°, it immediately starts a 30 minute timer, without allowing the grill to stay at temperature for 15 minutes. Then when the 30 minute timer is finished, the app will automatically change the temperature and start a new 20 minute timer without notification or allowing time to turn the meat. In my opinion, when using recipes on the app, the app should send a notification that a step is complete, and the user should push a button on the app to begin the next step.

REVIEW UPDATE: The newest issue is that the grill goes into a “Grill Offline” state (WiFire is completely useless in this state), and the only way to get back online is to manually reconnect the grill. This cannot be done while you are cooking, and you only find the status by opening the Traeger app. To clarify, if you go outside to preheat your grill and then open your app, you’re out of luck if it’s in the offline state. This is a major issue. I’ve had to reconnect my grill 4 times since purchasing just over one year ago. It’s inconvenient enough that I would reconsider buying the grill had I known about the issue on the front end.

Traeger Developer please read

App is great and I have no issues with WiFire or my grill. In fact I’m new smoking (bought a pro 575 on 12/26) and if you can’t get great results on a Treager you don’t belong around a grill. App is loaded with great recipes and if you follow them you get awesome results. Some recipes need some tweaking, temps and times may differ but, with trail and error it all works out. I do like the recipe community. You can upload and share comments about recipes to inform everyone of your experience.

But this is my only downfall with the app.
I don’t get any sort of notifications pushed to the app. For example. I’ll set a timer, no notification sent to the app to alert me that my timer has finished. Also if I set a meat probe temp alarm, when my internal temp of my meat reaches my desired set point, again no notification sent to my phone/app. And lastly. I just got the pellet level sensor 2 weeks back. Sensor works great. Good feature to have. But… can you guess? Yea, no notification that my pellet level got low. I was smoking last weekend, 6lbs brisket. Took me nearly 12hrs. Came out great BTW but… I nearly had a flame out situation. I just so happen to check my app to see how things were going, saw my pellet level at 0. Ran out to the yard and looked in my hopper, I had no pellets. Was able to see the auger at the bottom on my hopper and a little it of pellets sitting in the channel. Of course I quickly dumped in another 18lb bag and I was ok but thank god I just so happened to open the app and glance at my grill status. Again, no notification that my hopper was getting low. I’ve checked all the app settings and my phone settings. There’s no way to enable notifications. Please fix this issue. I’m still giving you 5 stars because I’m very pleased with my grill and the results I get. I feel like a BBQ pit master, LOL. And your customer service and tech support is STELLAR!

For those having WiFi issues I have a solution. Keep reading. I too was having issues connecting or keeping grill connected. There’s a solution. The Traeger doesn’t like or can’t have a lot of traffic on its network. First make sure you’re not too far from your router. Also as I’m sure you’re aware and if your not, the Traeger can only use 2.4 band. I’m sure everyone’s home, like mine, has a lot of Wi-Fi devices. So here’s the fix. Give your grill its own dedicated 2.4 Wi-Fi band in your router settings. Make a guest network in your settings and of course secure it with a password. Now… connect your grill to that guest network and ONLY use that connection for your grill. The Traeger doesn’t seem to like to share. Having it’s own network with no traffic works. Iv’e had ZERO issues once I gave my Traeger it’s own network. My WiFire works GREAT! Hope this helps people having connectivity issues.

Traeger Plain and Simply Doesn’t Work

I’ve had the grill for 6 weeks now (which took 6 months to arrive via Williams Sonoma but that’s besides the point). I’ve attempted to connect the app to the grill approx 25 times. For weeks the app would just shut down after pairing. Now it’s pairing but it’s not recognizing the grill. Says “Unknown”. It just doesn’t work.

For a $2k product that’s sold so heavily with the WiFire brand, this is unacceptable.

Traeger Could be a good app

Pretty good app for recipes and would be better if I could get my grill to connect. Have the Timberline 1300 1st gen and had to replace the controller. Since then haven’t been able to get the grill to connect to the network. Own 3 grills, the Scout, one from Costco and the Timberline. Have had to replace the controllers in 2 of them. Might consider looking at a different grill and selling the Traegers.

Traeger I wish I could find a way to do negative stars!

My first pellet grill, so I thought I would go all in and bought a Timberline 1300.

1 month in and deleting and reinstalling the app 1/2 dozen times and I get no connection, but the grill shows connected. The router is one pane of glass and 5 feet away. My cheap [censored] chinese wireless controlled outlets are 65’ behind the grill and took 2 mins to set up. Crazy this is so horrendous from what is supposed to be a tier 1 company.

Traeger Wifire not working

I bought this grill for the fact that it was equipped with WiFi. For the past two weeks I have been trying to connect to WiFi. I am connected to my 2.4ghz network and my router is about 3feet away. After deleting and reinstalling the app multiple times still nothing. I was told to leave my grill on for 24 hours and somehow it would magically download software that didn’t work. I feel duped. Don’t advertise something that you can’t deliver on. I’m totally disappointed.

Traeger Great grill but can’t connect it to the app

I wasted three hours with tech support trying to get the grill connected to the app. Tech support said they see the grill in their system but it won’t link in the app. They told me it was a firmware update, leave the grill plugged in and on overnight, it will update the firmware. It didn’t. I’ve wasted three hours on the phone for nothing. I told the tech support rep to put a note in my record for the next time I call to just send me a new controller, in some waiting time. If they don’t then the grill is going back.

Traeger Technology Obviously Not Traeger’s Core Competency

My Traeger worked fine until they pushed out an “upgrade” to their app earlier this year. I have given up on trying to get it to work and have been exhausted by the frustration from dealing with their tech support, who don’t even seem to know what they are doing unless they read it from a script. I can no longer control the cooking from my iPhone, a feature I paid at least $100 more to have. What a screw up. Traeger should have stayed with improving their grills and outsourced their technology to a third party who knows what they are doing.

Traeger Frustrating App

Someone once said, you can’t have it all. And in the case of Traeger that saying fits. Their grill is great, their app stinks. I spent an hour of my life trying to make it work, force it to accept me and to no avail. Nice lady from Traeger tried to blame the issues on my Iphone, I politely informed her that I’m surprised Apple allows Traeger to have their app available. My suggestion to her and Traeger is start over, stop with the sign in, if you must have security then use facial ID. For the love of god BETA test! I can use the grill without your app. Please don’t brag about it. Rant over.

Traeger App redesign blows

Hate to leave a negative review but the new app redesign is terrible. Why would you remove the recipe categories? If anything, you should break it down further. Part of the joy of owning a Traeger is the recipe discovery. Now, not only do you not provide logical categories as you once did (meat, poultry, fish), but you also removed the score and “at a glance” details from the index that makes people click into a recipe they might have otherwise scrolled past. Sorry guys, hope you fired whatever agency built this for you guys because it’s a huge step backwards. Guess I’ll just lean on my saved recipe’s because it’s just a poor experience to explore new ones.

Traeger Don’t buy a Traeger 575

So I’m writing this review for my Dad’s Traeger (575 Wifire grill) he bought and he was so excited because he thought he can connect his phone to it. IT DOES NOT WORK. I tried on multiple phones and made two accounts because I thought maybe my dads phone was messed up and nothing. It just refuses to connect to wifi, froze when reading the QR code, and it’s so frustrating! After multiple attempts I decided to check the reviews on this app in case the developers said anything about this and I found that multiple people are having the same problem. So LAME that there’s no solution or response to these reviews either. Definitely pushing my dad to get a return for this

Traeger Doesn’t work. Terrible Customer Service

If you are contemplating buying the Traeger Timberline for the WiFire on this app, think again. The app does not link up and give you the data and control they say it does.

It gets better, when you reach out for help, they send you the instructions that you already have and already followed several times. When you tell them that doesn’t work, they send it to someone else who tells you the same thing. I am still waiting to hear back from someone that is competent enough to understand and fix the problem.

I am about to return my heavy investment due to terrible customer service and a product that does not work.

Bad deal all around. If you’re on the fence, go for something else even another brand.

Traeger What the?!?

The app looks slick from a graphic design standpoint, but everything else appears to be junk

EVERY time I want to open the app I have to delete and restart it. Almost hilariously bad.

The app lets me log in with my web credentials. Then when I try to connect my wifire grill (pro series 780), I get a “check your username error”. If I change the password, same issue. Called customer service, they told me no special characters, password less than 10 characters. The web password instructions say 8-20 characters, must be upper and lowercase, must have numbers AND special characters. Customer service got confused when I asked about that part too.

This is about the worst app experience I’ve had, and I’ve tried a lot

Traeger Terrible App, Won’t Connect, Many Bugs

The app is buggy and will not connect to my iPhone or iPad. It worked better before Traeger made updates in March . The old version would lose connection but would at least reconnect after 5 seconds. Since then I cannot connect iPhone to check temp. Tried updating and reinstalling the app multiple times and reconnecting the Grill to the WiFi network. Traeger says Grill should be firmware Version 2.0 but no instructions on how to update firmware, which is stuck in version 1.1.5. Very disappointed because this feature was the main reason for spending $2000 on the Timberline 850 Grill. Can only check temp by going outside to the grill. Don’t buy this Grill expecting to use the app to check the temp. Hoping someday Traeger will care enough and take time to fix it.

Traeger Apple Watch complication please!

Good enough app, but I wish you could store more stages cook programs.

Creating an Apple Watch complication so I could see the current probe temperature on my watch would be amazing as well.

Update: dropping rating down due to removing staged programmable cooks for some reason. This was my most used feature! It either was removed or is now hiding really well.

Also, it takes forever to load the app now that it sits at a login screen

Update 2: dropping down to 1-star because the staged programmable cooks feature is indeed there, but only if you use a Traeger recipe from within the app. I want to be able to program my own recipes like the app supported a year ago. I have no idea why this feature was removed. It was probably the #1 reason I bought a Traeger over another brand. SAD!

Traeger Terrible App - enough to warrant not buying Traeger!

App and provisioning functions are among the worst I’ve ever experienced. I have many home automation devices and none have given me the trouble the Traeger “WiFire” has.

- App response is ridiculously slow
- Would initially make connection to home WiFi but would never complete the provisioning / connection process.
- App doesn’t retain login or password info, forcing re-entry on every failed provisioning attempt that locks the app up (Traeger can see the numerous back to back logins on my account)
- Manual entry of home WiFi info causes app lockup.
- Network Refresh causes app lockup.
- Home WiFi is strongest signal in Area and correct band (2.4 GHz) but it no longer shows up on the network list.
- No help on line and no response
- 35+ attempts at provisioning on 7 different occasions to no avail.

Traeger Alarm issues, use your phone for a timer and buy an Weber probe to check temperatures

I really like the app but I am extremely frustrated with the alarms. Meaning the alert alarms triggered by: grill preheat done, grill probe at temperature, grill timer is up etc. so what I’m upset about is when the alarm goes off, the app signals twice then stops. Pretty much means I can’t set my phone down for a second and I need to baby sit temperature and times constantly until the grill is almost done. To get by with the timer issue I use the timer built into the phone, to get by with the temp probe issue I had to buy a Weber wireless probe. Using the Weber probe, the alarm goes off when the food temp is close and then constantly goes off until you physically tell the app to stop the alarm, Not Chirp chirp! Then silence from the traeger app. If Traeger at least allows users to change the alarm duration to constantly go off when temp or time is done. That would be great.

Traeger Was great until version 2

Version 2 severely crippled the best capabilities of these grills. It does look great and has some new features.

But version 2 lost one of the greatest features to program the grill to do steps. Or smoke for so many hours then turn up until internal temp was reached. The “set and forget” feature.

I loved this feature and am missing it big time. It was one of the selling points of the newer grills over the older ones. Now I’m forced to go check more often. Tho I can change the temp remotely with the app still. I still have to do manually now instead of setting the grill to automatic.

I’m wanting this feature back. And no word from traeger if or when it will be back. A major oversight in the update in my opinion. They have that as a selling feature on the grills yet now it’s not available. And by the way. It worked great in the old version. I wish I could go back to version 1.xxx

Traeger Meh

Frankly a little tired of buying high end “smart” devices were all the development and engineering goes into the product and zero goes in to the connected app. Grill is awesome, app is on par with a iPhone 3GS app. It works, generally speaking. Lots of little bugs and UX issues. I don’t get any kind of meaningful push notifications like when a timer goes off. So constantly having to check the app. 4 memory slots on the grill is pretty weak. If that’s a tech limitation, which I don’t understand in our age of hundreds of gigabytes in the size of a penny, fine, but allow me to store them in my account for easy load/offload. The “preheat” seems to be a misnomer as it goes off before the grill reaches the temp requested. So if I set a timer, it starts clicking away before the grill is even at temp. I guess I just expect more from a grill that costs $2000. I find myself using Siri to set timers more often than not because at least she’ll let me know when the timer expires. Also, where’s the pellet sensor? I feel like for this kind of money I should get alerted for low pellets, etc.
Overall great grill, terrible app/firmware.
