This evening, we met dear friends at the Cracker Barrel on Springhill in North Little Rock. For decades I have always rushed to have fried catfish, my favorite and never disappointed. However tonight, I had trouble reading the menu to find my favorite. Instead, I found several entrees with the word "New", so Ok let's see what all the hype has been about. Ordered the "Hash Brown Shepherd's Pie."
Bottom layer was lumpy and perhaps dehydrated mash potatoes, with brown gravy, carrots, maybe mushroom and very large pieces of pot roast. Welcome to New England. Quickly the next layer was over cooked hash brown, shredded cheese, green onions, fresh tomatoes and sour cream. WOW. Taste buds went crazy over this international meal in a skillet. Who thought this up.
Corn bread muffins are now dry, flavorless, and 3/4 inch high. Grandmothers' biscuits could have been used as hockey pucks.
The highlight was our waitperson. She was friendly, observant, and responsive. Let's go back to home cooking and comfort food. $15.99 for this item.
Recommendation: Do not get fooled by the word "new", it is a trick. This was way beyond a healthy dish.
