Symantecspyware virus removal

I paid 99.00 for spyware & virus removal service, a 30 day program to eliminate spyware from pc. Was on for hours and hours and hours. Got rid of problem but eliminate sw on machine including symantec antivirus sw. Now they are telling me to take my pc to the original provider! They will not fix the issues they created. Was on phone a second time for over 8 hours being bounced from agent to agent. They told me to take my issues elsewhere. When i asked for a refund they scheduled a time for customer service to contact me. I still have not been able to fix my pc or get a refund. What a scam!!! Stay away from this service.

I have the 2007 Norton AntiVirus, purchased 2 months ago for $34.98. This morning, out of the blue it wasn't working, needed activation.I had done nothing to cause this-it was fine the night before when I ran a system scan then turned it off.

The activation feature wouldn't complete and kept dumping me onto their site. No info for repair for this version, the solution was to call, after filling out a complicated pre-phone call form. I was then given a priority case number, and phone number to call, with a 10 minute wait time. The lines were too busy to even put a call through for 30 minute, and when I finally did get through, it was another 40 minutes of waiting. The call center employee had such a heavy accent I could not understand him well, but at least he answered.

I explained (though I had typed the exact same explanation on the pre-call form), and he acted like he had never heard of such a thing. Also couldn't believe I had dial up, stated he couldn't help me unless I called back with a cell phone and the computer hooked to land line. Told him no, had no cell (I pay by the minute!) and he told me to go to and all my problems would be answered. "Call us back anytime!" he said cheerily. I told him the website's only solution for the problem was to call. He repeated that the website would take care of everything, then hung up.

That of course was the page I started with. I figured uninstalling and reinstalling would work and it did, and of course with dial up it was another 90 minutes getting the updates re-installed.

I have searched high and low-this company has no means for making a complaint about service or products. I kick my self for renewing but I couldn't believe they would make the mistakes they had with past versions.

My vote for "worst customer service of the decade" goes to Symantec. Over the course of two weeks I was bounced around from one 800# to the next, six in total, but could never get a satisfactory answer to my problem because I was always on hold listening to a recording about "our usual fine service".

Emails? Forget it - they don't answer them. Because their system couldn't identify my produce serial number I couldn't renew a subscription and was forced to buy a new (3 computer) package. Then, when I tried to download the new product to a second computer their system once again could not find the new serial number. They are literally forcing me to spend $209.85 instead of $49.95 but I can't endure any endless sessions being put on hold. I would appreciate a recommendation for another anti-virus company.

Try Nod32 by It's lightweight and won't bog down your system. I had been a Norton user since 1997, until now. My Computer has 3 bootable hard drives with a switcher. One for me, one for the wife and one for the kids. My MoBo went doa, when I upgraded I needed to reinstall. Well low and behold, I guess I used up my 1 install and 2 re-installs allowed by symantec, below is what I was told by their customer service:

" per the product key, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, Norton AntiVirus
2006 has reached the maximum limit for legitimate number of installations.

Please note that, as per End User License Agreement (EULA), one license = one
installation on one computer. However, Symantec understands that user may need to re-install the software in case of hard drive failure, etc, therefore, it has
    provided 2 extra licenses.

However, our server indicates that these licenses have been used. Hence, I recommend you to purchase a new copy of the software at an upgrade price.

Symantec offers any new Norton product at a reduced upgrade price for its prior
customers. To view your upgrade purchase options, please visit the Symantec Store Upgrade Center online at:

As per our server, your Norton AntiVirus 2006 has 83 days remaining subscription left as of now."

They're kidding....right? From now on I will make a clean setup drive image for each drive and add an extra hard drive to store them. I will use a cheap or free anti-virus to stop what it can and if I get a virus, simply wipe and re-install from the clean image. I'll use the $120 per year they want me to pay to take my wife for a romantic dinner.

After my trial period was up on my son's new laptop I tried to do a live update. I guess Norton doesn't like Vista. After a couple of responses from the customer service on possible ways of getting the update to work, they stopped communicating with me. I want my money back. NO response. Time for a class action lawsuit? Ted.

I ordered Norton and was billed for service on 1-23-2008. I cancelled the order several days after I ordered the service as I found out that I am covered by my service provider. It was removed from my computer but I have yet to receive a refund. It stated very clearly that a refund would be given for any reason.

I have been charged 2 years in a row $39.99 for a renewal that was stop last March 2007. Both times I stayed on the phone with Symantec for 30 minutes thinking it had been taken care of. I even received emails both times from Symantec telling me my problem has been resolved and my credit card number removed from the system. Along with the emails came a link for me to you to tell them how their service was, the link did not work.

I had to save all my emails from Symantec, and the names and dates of the person(s) I talked to on the phone and turn them over to my credit card company who finally had the charges removed. In both cases Symantec was not even suppose to have my credit card number.

This is nothing more than a crime committed on thousands of people every month. Just think about how many people aren’t even aware of what is going on. I am planning on introducing a bill that will stop this from happening. We want to make these Company's pay back all the money they have taken over the years from people that weren't even aware.

This is the letter I'm sending to them.

    June 1, 2008

To Whom It May Concern: (since I can’t find an address, a contact name, department or person to send this to)

I received a BIG FAT RED X on my computer on Sunday June 1, 2008 indicating that my Norton anti-virus subscription had expired. I thought that I had renewed anti-virus and internet security in December 2007, apparently not. After about 5 tries to get to your website and download anti-virus only, I was able to get through all the screens and make the purchase for 39.99. When I went to print my order page, the system froze. When I drilled down through your site to find a contact us, it asked to download support files in order to chat, I pressed the dialogue box to do so and got nothing. So not only did I not get help, I did not get my download. I went back to your site to try to return it what I DID NOT get which was the 2008 Anti-virus download, and it wouldn’t let me send an email because I didn’t have an order number. I DID NOT RECEIVE AN ORDER NUMBER BECAUSE EVERYTHING I TRIED ON YOUR SITE, FAILED AND CRASHED.

I don’t understand what kind of customer service you have. You can’t talk to anyone on the phone without paying money, you can’t chat with anyone online without downloading support files that do not download and you took my money.

Let me tell you something. These are hard economic times. The $40 I spent on ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FROM YOUR COMPANY, could have gone into my gas tank or put some food on my table. I am woefully disappointed with the number of hoops required in order to get your product and the additional thousand hoops required to get some help with your products. I have currently uninstalled (I hope) every Symantec application from my computer. I WANT MY MONEY BACK AND I want you to address for me and for any other person who has spent their hard earned money on your products, why it’s so difficult to get them and why it so difficult to get some help on them. Times are much too difficult to PAY MONEY FOR FOOLISHNESS.

I have confirmation orders for both computers and I would like the notices to stop. It disrupts my library patrons trying to use the computer. I could almost copy the above complaint as my own. My loss is $69.95 and hope for a resolution to the problem is slowly fading. I have no download to install, and if I suddenly found one I really doubt I would use it. I have made two complaints to the Complaints Board and I forget how many to Symantec on their very poor web site. I have made a number of efforts to access Symantec refund directions and have been unable to get past error message that keeps coming up. I have two computers, a PC and a laptop. I have already removed Norton form the laptop and am ready to do the same with the PC. I am presently looking for a program that will successfully do so. Trying to get rid of Symantec and AOL are on a par with each other and only tenacity will allow you to accomplish this. Only my strong Christian convictions keep me from using and the strong contempt I have for your company and for your poor customer concerns.

It becomes unregistered periodically and stops protecting my computer. This is a piece of software that I rely on to be ALWAYS working, and for it to stop working is a critical flaw. I used to be able to register it easily, but now it says that I can't register it because it is already registered. I tried calling customer service and was on hold for an hour before giving up. I also tried emailing them but could not find an email address. They have been difficult to get in touch with in the past. I've wasted too many hours with this product. (I also tried subscribing to the virus updates, and even that was unsuccessful!)

I have not place that order and I dont authorize any charge to my credit card.

Credit Card was charged 39.99 for ANNUAL renewal on 05/01/08. Subscription expired on 09/02/08. Called phone # on CC statement, customer service in India answered and after an hour and a half of frustration I was able to prove that Symantec/Norton had screwed up and my subscription was extended by 365 days. Giving me approximately 90 free days. If my math is correct that values my time at $7.50 an hour.

I was told I need to update my security, which automatically renews anyhow. When I did, through ignorance, I was charged twice for this service. There are two charges on my credit card bill, one for $129.98 and the other for 134.98.
This looks to me like a scam as the security updates automatically any, so there is a charge for that as well of $54.36
