Norton payment no service

I purchased the Norton Security System 360 on line on Dec.3, 2008 for $59.99 via credit card. As of this date [protected]) I hleave not received any conformation that the system was activated. I keep getting reminders (popups) that state that my free subscription has expired.I understand from other websites that this company is a fraudulant system. Iwould like to know if there is any recourse (on my part) concerning this situation ?Thanking you in advance. Please e-mail as to possible resolution in this matter.Yours truly, Michael Perrino

I too, purchased Norton Security, on-line .They took my money with no return of a product .
I'm really upset about this . When you go to there web page to talk to somone live about this problem there is no one to do that with . So they took my money of 59.99 as well. I think they should be sued !

Norton no product key

I dont understand how you people can take my money and dont deliver a product!
You send me a conformation letter with the order #[protected] .
This letter states that in order to be able to download a liscence product, you have to put in the product key#, and that number is located on the email conformation letter. Well as you guessed it, you did not put that product key # in that letter, nor can I contact you on your contact list to be able to ask someone. It sounds like you dont want to be notified to fix this problem but you have no problem taking my money.

Feel free to contack me anytime at [protected]@securespeed.us

Norton download from internet that did not work after six hours!!

Hello, Certainly hope you can help me with this, "BIG PROBLEM", since Sept.30th, 2008 when this poped up on my screen telling me I had one day to upgrade. The cost was $69.99 + $8.99 for the download that took six hours on a dial-up computer. This is no joke and I want my money back grand total of $78.98, "or for them to send me a new one to my address to download onto my computer myself. Thank You for any help, Norman&Shrley Beitz i24.net> wrote:

Norton Fraud and scam

I bought the Norton 360 anti-virus from Fry's electronics. I already had the Norton anti-virus on my machine (Vista) that came pre-installed. The license had expired. They have a $20 mail in rebate for upgrades. The instructions for previous owners of pre-loaded (OEM) software products are as follows:

1. Go to the help/About screen in your pre-loaded software
2. ..
3. Scrn print
4. Send the printed image of the help/About screen

Now, the old norton anti-virus does not even have a help/About screen. On clicking help, it goes to the help screen without any information of the product etc.

This is a SCAM - watch out, you will most likely miss these instructions or you will give up searching for the help/About screen. Even if you do manage to find the help screen, they may reject it as there is no definition of what the help/About should look like. Fortunately I did not open the software and will be returning it.

They are doing automatic renewals on credit cards without letting people know. The only reason I found out, I'm pretty sure, is that my credit card had expired. So, they sent me an email to try to prod me into renewing it. I uninstalled their junk 6 months ago. And, I never signed up for this. I would never sign up for something like that. They probably hid this as some "option" in an obscure place in the ordering process when I first bought the stuff. I wonder how many millions of dollars they've stolen from people by doing this.

There is a class action lawsuit against Symantec for these practices. The lead attorney for the class is Thomas M. Mullaney (tmm@mullaw.org) if you wish to discuss your complaint

Norton unauthorized billing

I had the same problem with Norton, When my wife installed the anti virus program it automaticly subscribed her to " automatic renewal" .
Fast forward to one year later and it is renewal time . She no longer is using Norton and got an e-mail telling her that her subscription would be automaticly renewed, and asked me to cancell it.
I loged on to thier website and found I needed an account number to cancell the renewal process.
They then provided a number to me, which when entered into thier system stated that the number was incorrect... Long story short.. by the time that I got it straightened out we were charged the $49.00 fee
After this my mother went through the same scenario. While the Symatec web site had beed updated to make it easier to "find" information on the renewal process it was still a shell game to actually cancell the subcription to automatic renewal..In the end she just cancelled her credit card and got a new one to avoid being charged...

I have seen many with same complaint as you and I both experienced.
I contacted the Department of Justice in NH and are pursuing it, with already a letter sent to Symantec! With letter to Dept. of Justice, I included almost 20 pages of complaints from many different people! Though it maybe out of their jurisdiction to look outside of NH for complaints, I wanted them to be aware of all of these people being hit with unauthorized charges from Symantec!

People, with same problem. contact your state's Dept of Justice, Consumer Protection Antitrust Bureau! Enough complaints sent from Dept. of Justices, Consumer Protection/Antitrust Bureau to Symantec
Symantec will HAVE to DO SOMETHING! They already have a few class action suits..nothing to do with this particular problem, though.

Many Thanks..pls forward onto others!

Norton unauthorized charge

Unauthorized credit card billing from norton annual renewal [protected] ca for $54.04. I never haad norton antivirus on my computer. I called the number on the credit card bill and got someone in india to work my complaint. They must have had numerous complaints, as one of the automated selections on the phone line was for unauthorized charges. I am also contesting the charge through my credit card. The sec should go after norton for fraudulent business practices, given all the complaints i've seen on this website.

I noticed last year that Norton automatically charged my bank account for a renewal that I never requested, but I didn't get it taken off. I had paid for a download of Norton the year before. But this year I am quite angry that I am still being billed! I don't even use the computer that I downloaded it to before. When I called the CS number, I was connected to India. The poor guy there must get yelled at constantly! Seeing all these links to complaints against Norton, I ALSO conclude that NORTON is making more than a few "human errors", and leaving these outsourced workers on the other side of the world to deal with only angry Americans! The service associate took care of me, but only after he continued to try to talk me out of leaving Norton's patronage. I'll never consider a Norton product again!

Not only did Symantecs horrible software contribute to the overall demise of my last computer ( I finally uninstalled it when my system worked only without it) but now they have charged my credit card account without any prior authorization from me. I don't use nor have I used their softward in quite some time. I am currently on perpetual hold to get back my money that was to be used to pay other bills that are "REAL." Unbelievable. These people should be investigated thoroughly. Seems like this may be the only way they can survive the competition maybe... by floating off the dollars of others who actually loathe their software.

Live Update updated itself yesterday and left a disaster. It activated parental controls, which I have never used. Turns out "parental controls" include news and finance sites such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, etc. I can't turn parental controls off, because I need supervisor level access, for which I need a password, which is also something new.

Symantec offers no way to call about problems they introduced into the software, except to pay by the minute. Finding a problem on their web site is an exercise in futility.

After spending hours last year trying to renew my subscription, I should have know better. When I finally got to talk to a human being and was able to place the order, I said never again. Looks like I may have to find another provider sooner rather than later.

Several months ago the motherboard fried on my desktop PC. After replacing the motherboard and re-loading the OS (Microsoft XP) I attempted to load Norton AV-07. The software informed me to contact Symantec regarding the license as it needed to be authenticated. This was also the case with Microsoft as the OS needed to be validated; a very simple process. Getting the OS completed was a snap. Symantec on the other hand informed me that there was nothing that they could do given that all three licenses had already been registered. I also had Norton installed on my wife’s laptop and on my school laptop. After explaining that I had just replaced the motherboard and only needed to be validated, as I had the original key and licenses, the support services told me basically to get lost, nothing they could do. I reviewed their policy regarding hardware failure and it was not addresses. I spoke to a few people and they thought that maybe I had just talked to the wrong person so I tried again…same story. I removed Norton Anti-Virus 2007 along with System Works and sent the CDs along with the keys back to their world headquarters in Cupertino, CA. I will never buy nor advocate another Symantec product again.

I ordered incorrect upgrade of my computer virus protection from their website in late 2007. When it didn't work correctly, contacted them on 1/17 /08 and they uninstalled my mistake and reinstalled the correct upgrade program. On that date, they told me I would get a refund for $39.99 for the original program that I ordered incorrectly and couldn't use on my computer. But, they've done nothing. Have contacted their 800- number more than six times. They keep promising a resolution but nothing happens. I've even sent a registered letter to their company HQ, in Cupertino, CA. No results! Obviously, they are not concerned with customer service! Hope you read this and do not use them.

There should be a notes sent out be for you bill a persons Credit Card. This way a person can say oh yes please set me up for another year, or I was not happy with your product and to take me off your list. Also there is times you help some one out and they use your card and it should be a one time use. So if the Card holder and the account is different this should also send up a red flag, to not use the credit card for a renewal.

I was charged 49 dollars for norton renwal without my approval. I paid 120 dollars to get norton . When i was checking my account i found that norton has charged me 49 dollars more for the renewl of norton antivirirus knowing that my norton antivirus has stopped working 3 months ago. I do not understand why they charge without any call or any previous contact to let me know. I am now trying to get my money back, i do not know if it is possible or not. This a lesson that makes aware of the fraud that can affect everybody.

I just paid for my annual subscription for the Norton Security System. They billed me 63.38 US dollars paid via credit card last July 24, 2008. Now they are flashing the sign that my annual subscription is due to lapse in 26 days.

I tried to contact the company but they require all sorts of requirements to be able to contact them.

I signed up online for antivirus protection. Received an email confirmation but next time online I had a message that my application had not been completed. Norton misled about downloads/updates

Dear Ms. Swanson,

I am attaching copies of letters drafted to the Attorney General of Iowa and Symantec Corporation. The reason I am copying to you is that in the service agreement with Symantec it states that “all claims or disputes relating to the Service shall b e governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota.”

Thank you for any assistance you may offer in the resolution of this request for refund for services which I believe were not properly delivered.

Dear Mr. Miller,

After repeated attempts to reach Symantec Corporation to cancel Symantec products particularly a Norton Antivirus subscription and to request a refund of $49.99 I have received nothing from them. Attached is a copy of an e-mail sent to me following a contact I made via their website. The phone call never came.

I believe that I have a right to cancel my subscription because the recent update I downloaded, paid for through an authorized automatic payment, is the 2006 version of the Norton Antivirus. According to the agreement I am supposed to receive the most current which would be 2009. I am also dissatisfied with the fact that Norton Antivirus continually caused my computer to operate very slowly and another Antivirus product I am using indicated that certain potential viruses repeatedly made it passed Norton. Upon removal of the Symantec product – which I competed mid-October, my computer is running much faster and more efficiently while my firewall and present antiviral protection is working very efficiently.

I am sending a copy of this letter to Symantec Corporation seeking a refund of the $49.99 which was applied to my credit card since I am no longer using their product(s) and cannot seem to make contact directly through their website or by phone. Please support me in this endeavor.

Respectfully,

Norton early expiration of license

On several occassions, the application has prompted that my license has expired when it was not. The latest incident occurred on 10/25/2008. My subscription doesn't expire until March 2009. I called support twice and they were not able to resolve the issue. The first technician lied and said he would call back to continue to work with me, I had to call support again. The second technician also lied and said he would call back, never heard from him. I worked with them for several hours, leaving my computer vulnerable to viruses.

Ultimately I had to install an earlier version of the software to protect my system.

Norton Rebate scam

This complaint is regarding a rebate offer. Symantec offered a $25 rebate on the purchase of its Norton 360 software if purchased between 2/24/08 and 3/29/08 (promotion # 08-04998). On 3/22/08 I purchased the Norton 360 software for $74.99. I mailed in the rebate with supporting documentation on 3/24/08. After waiting 8 weeks and not receiving the rebate or a reply, I sent an online inquiry to Symantec asking about the rebate. I did not receive a reply to my inquiry. I called their 800 number and spoke with a representative who told me to resubmit my rebate and gave me the resubmission address. I resubmitted the rebate on 6/10/08. Again, I did not receive the rebate or a response. So, I again resubmitted the rebate on 8/28/08. Again, I did not receive the rebate or a response. On 10/15/08 I sent another online inquiry asking about the status of my rebate. This time I did get a reply. The rebates customer service person called Diego emailed me back that they were unable to find a record of my rebate submission and I could not resubmit it because this promotion was closed. Only after the promotion was closed did they respond to me. They had no intention of honoring the rebate offer and just wait for people to give up. The reason I purchased their product and not another was because of the rebate offer. This company is misleading consumers by getting them to purchase a $75 product with the promise of a $25 rebate that they have no intention of paying. A quick search of the internet found several other people complaining because they did not receive their rebates from Symantec, so this is not an isolated case. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and urge others who have had a similar experience with Symantec to do the same.

Norton annual renewal

I was not planning to renew the Norton Security on my PC for this year. When the reminder came up that my subscription was going to expire within a month, I opted not to renew. Tried to uninstall the program using their uninstall option but program did not go away.

Received nearly hourly reminders of the renewal. After several days, I received an "upgrade now" message and wasn't sure if it was for my current subscription, so I upgraded and was charged as a renewal for the next year. There was no message regarding any fees for the upgrade or fees for the renewal until I saw it as a message AFTER the upgrade.

I had a problem with the program a couple of months ago where it suggested to be uninstalled and reinstalled. The program was never able to be reintalled although we tried for several days and I was unable to find a working phone number to contact customer support, so I was forced to buy a different program. I have not had Norton for several months now but I received a statement from my credit card with charges from your company. I never received notification stating I was going to be charged for a renewal. I never authorized the renewal, therefore, I never authorized the charges made to my credit card ($49.99) for the renewal of the program on 11/17/08. This was a scam, you took advantage of my credit card information and charged me without my concent. I want the money to be credited back to my account, or I will take legal action against your company. I want my credit card information to be removed from your computers and the automatic renewal. I am not interested in doing business with you. I would like someone to contact me regarding this matter as soon as possible. Hilda Rivera([protected]

This is the letter I'm sending to them.

June 1, 2008

To Whom It May Concern: (since I can’t find an address, a contact name, department or person to send this to)

I received a BIG FAT RED X on my computer on Sunday June 1, 2008 indicating that my Norton anti-virus subscription had expired. I thought that I had renewed anti-virus and internet security in December 2007, apparently not. After about 5 tries to get to your website and download anti-virus only, I was able to get through all the screens and make the purchase for 39.99. When I went to print my order page, the system froze. When I drilled down through your site to find a contact us, it asked to download support files in order to chat, I pressed the dialogue box to do so and got nothing. So not only did I not get help, I did not get my download. I went back to your site to try to return it what I DID NOT get which was the 2008 Anti-virus download, and it wouldn’t let me send an email because I didn’t have an order number. I DID NOT RECEIVE AN ORDER NUMBER BECAUSE EVERYTHING I TRIED ON YOUR SITE, FAILED AND CRASHED.

I don’t understand what kind of customer service you have. You can’t talk to anyone on the phone without paying money, you can’t chat with anyone online without downloading support files that do not download and you took my money.

Let me tell you something. These are hard economic times. The $40 I spent on ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FROM YOUR COMPANY, could have gone into my gas tank or put some food on my table. I am woefully disappointed with the number of hoops required in order to get your product and the additional thousand hoops required to get some help with your products. I have currently uninstalled (I hope) every Symantec application from my computer. I WANT MY MONEY BACK AND I want you to address for me and for any other person who has spent their hard earned money on your products, why it’s so difficult to get them and why it so difficult to get some help on them. Times are much too difficult to PAY MONEY FOR FOOLISHNESS.

I have the 2007 Norton AntiVirus, purchased 2 months ago for $34.98. This morning, out of the blue it wasn't working, needed activation.I had done nothing to cause this-it was fine the night before when I ran a system scan then turned it off.

The activation feature wouldn't complete and kept dumping me onto their site. No info for repair for this version, the solution was to call, after filling out a complicated pre-phone call form. I was then given a priority case number, and phone number to call, with a 10 minute wait time. The lines were too busy to even put a call through for 30 minute, and when I finally did get through, it was another 40 minutes of waiting. The call center employee had such a heavy accent I could not understand him well, but at least he answered.

I explained (though I had typed the exact same explanation on the pre-call form), and he acted like he had never heard of such a thing. Also couldn't believe I had dial up, stated he couldn't help me unless I called back with a cell phone and the computer hooked to land line. Told him no, had no cell (I pay by the minute!) and he told me to go to www.symantec.com/search and all my problems would be answered. "Call us back anytime!" he said cheerily. I told him the website's only solution for the problem was to call. He repeated that the website would take care of everything, then hung up.

That of course was the page I started with. I figured uninstalling and reinstalling would work and it did, and of course with dial up it was another 90 minutes getting the updates re-installed.

I have searched high and low-this company has no means for making a complaint about service or products. I kick my self for renewing but I couldn't believe they would make the mistakes they had with past versions.

It becomes unregistered periodically and stops protecting my computer. This is a piece of software that I rely on to be ALWAYS working, and for it to stop working is a critical flaw. I used to be able to register it easily, but now it says that I can't register it because it is already registered. I tried calling customer service and was on hold for an hour before giving up. I also tried emailing them but could not find an email address. They have been difficult to get in touch with in the past. I've wasted too many hours with this product. (I also tried subscribing to the virus updates, and even that was unsuccessful!)

I was billed $68.03 on my credit card for which the activity description of the monthly credit card statement says "Norton Annual Renewal [protected] ON. I have four operating computers in my house installed Norton products but three of them are still have 400 days of subscription remaining and I canceled automatic annual renewal for the other. I do not use other Norton product so I do not understand why I was billed. I did not receive any notification by email about this billing beforehand. I think the number written in the statement is telephone number. I am living in Canada but I am English as second language person. I can read and write English very well but have some problem in oral conversation especially communication through telephone. There is no reason I have to pay to the unknown charge without any chance to oppose it. Does any one help me to solve this problem.

I had to remove the virus system the same day

it was to hard to get into anything.
I am having a hard time getting in touch with any one to have the charge removed from my credit card.

Norton - scam and cheating

I just got off the phone with customer service from Norton. They are supposed to refund $69.99 for an order made by mistake.I renewed my subscription at$59.99 yesterday and today I got 3 emails telling me I had chosen to "opt out" of Norton 360. What a mess! Hopefully everything was fixed this time. According to the service rep. my subscription is good...

Norton scam and cheating

I was charged directly from my bank account two weeks before my Norton Anti Virus subscription was due and when I called to let them know that I did not want their service and wanted a refund I was told by their representatives I would get my money within 5 to 10 days, it has already been almost two months and still no sign of my money. Every time I call to inquire about my money it is always the same story and my problem never gets resolved. I do not ever recall ever enrolling in their automatic renewal service, which they claim I did. I just feel that they are constantly lying to me and hope that I give up so they could keep my money.

I to have experienced Nortons antivirus scam. When you call the customer service number it never connects to a rep. It loops around to the beginning of the message. Does anyone know how to get a real refund. Also, the computer it was on crashed because it failed to detect a virus.

I have received my Capital one Bill and I have found a charge that I have never purchased from your company. The computer that I had original put the Norton Virus protector, has not had internet connected to it since 2006. I know I would never have bought an automatic renewal, mainly because I don't believe technology last long. I could be using something completely different next year. I would greatly appreciate a credit on my account, as soon as possible for the amount charged: $42.91.

Thanks,

Angel

Norton stopping 60 days free trial

I never wanted to try Norton 360, but I got a brand new computer, and it wouldn't continue if I didn't try Norton 360. I wanted to cancel my free 60 day trial. I finally found a way to cancel these services by this email. It hasn't been the full 60 days. I don't want to be charged. I did everything to try to cancel, but the cancellation would not go through. This is my email to contact me for confirmation that the cancellation went through for my own records. Your website for Norton 360 makes it hard to cancel services. On the site it does not have anything that shows that you can cancel.

I tried Norton from http://www.norton-security-store.com/norton-free-trials.html and had no trouble. I tried Norton Internet Security first, uninstalled it, and then got Norton AntiVirus. If you have a problem with getting Norton off your computer, they offer a free removal tool that can be downloaded from Symantec: http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN&ln=en_US

I agree it was very sketchy how difficult they make it. On their site once you do drill down and manage to find some text about how to cancel, instead of telling you the steps it says to follow the directions you received in your order confirmation email. Why they can't just reiterate it there is so stupid, because this is what the email says:

1. click here to go to the order status page. (the URL is: https://shop.symantecstore.com/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayOrderStatusPage&Env=BASE&Locale=en_US&SiteID=symnahho&ThemeID=106300)
2. Login using either your Order Number and password or e-mail address and the last five digits of your credit card.
3. Press the “Find Your Order” button to view the product to cancel.
4. Go to the bottom of the page and click the “Cancel your Order” button.
5. You will then see a Web page confirming your cancellation.

It's really quite simple once you have the above instructions, and they could have put this on their website as well, but I think they unfairly make it difficult so it's too difficult/time consuming to cancel.

Norton subscription problems

My two-year Norton Antivirus subscription is about to expire in three days. I am having a resubscription problem, yet I am unable to contact Symantec via the links on their web site.

I recently received a credit card bill that lists an automatic subscription renewal for their software that I did not authorize. I was planning to use a different credit card than the one I used last time, and it is creating a problem. So unfortunately they already billed me, but the software I paid for did not load; also I was not ready to resubscribe until a day before my current subscription expires. I feel like they tricked me into resubscribing, and resubscribing earlier than I would have liked to. Not only that, but they billed the wrong credit card number, and gave me a one-year subscription when I was planning to buy another two-year subscription. What a mess!

Now I don't know if I should go ahead and do a subscription download from the Symantec web site or not. I am afraid that they will double bill me, and I won't be able to complain to them. All the links for free Symantec technical support do not work; when you click on them, nothing happens! I feel like I'm losing my mind! I guess my only recourse is to call their head office in Cupertino, a long-distance phone call from where I live; hopefully I can resolve the problem that way.

I think Symantec is really overstepping their bounds by automatically resubscribing their customers. They have billed me for a one-year subscription, but have failed to give me instructions on what to do next. I feel like I don't even have the satisfaction of subscribing when I wish to do so. If they really have faith in the quality of their product, why do they have to resort to trickery to force people to resubscribe? Also why do none of their free "contact us" links work?

one day when on my internet i was bombarded with your latest norton-anit virus 13, as being the latest in security. when i tried to acces it, it was not possible, and then i tried at least 6 times to remove the window, so after that i accepted under duress as i was in the middle of a Important transaction at the time and did not want to lose my contact with the people i was dealing with. Ever since that day, i have noticed a marked disabled Internet proformance and not able to get on, before i accepted under what i consider a violation of my rights, and obtianing control over my private live, which i am considering consulting my full rights by law. All i wanted to do was get my personel control back and ask one of your team to put me through to a technical advisor to remove it from my computer and REFUND me the costs of this aggresive manner in which i was forced to do, under duress.
