In all the 10+ years that I was insured by State Farm, I have NEVER been treated this way, my recent experience with Cookie O'Days Agent located at 13550 N. Kendall Drive, Miami, FL just puts such a "bad taste" in my mouth. I don't have enough space to write all that has transpired since March 2009; when my car broke down on the highway in the middle of the...

State Farm denied claim on hot tub

We had a storm during the winter that caused the motherboard on our hot tub to go. As a result, the pipes froze and cracked. We had a technician tell us that it was 'not repairable' and to submit it to our insurance for claim. State Farm sent a field tech (no experience necessary) to take pictures of the motherboard. Because the pictures of the motherboard did not show any burn marks, they denied our claim!

Let me see, storm happened, power went out, motherboard on hot tub went, pipes froze. Totally under our control, right? Hmmmm... This was the first claim we ever persued in over 20 years with State Farm Insurance (believe me, we have written a lot of checks to State Farm) and this is the treatment we get.

Good Bye State Farm!

I was just denied by Allstate for the same thing. Our problem was a week long power outage of which we were not aware of to our northern Michigan vacation home due to a storm. A month after filing my claim with them, they denied it saying they do not cover pools or spas from freezing, no matter what the cause was. I was told that I should drain it and winterize it for the winter like a boat!
I have been a customer for 20 years with no claim history. My annual renewals only come with a declaration and abbreviated language, not the full 30 page policy !

the policy covers the named perils only. Hot tubs are considered personal property, as such they must suffer damage as a result of a covered peril. Simple break down, malfunction would of course not be covered. That would be like asking state farm to pay for your malfunctioning toaster or lawn mower? The resuling frozen pipe was not due to a covered loss and logically not covered. I truly wish that people who want someone to blame would take a few seconds read the policy that comes to your home every renewal period, ask questions if you do not understand. And take some intreats in protecting and maintaining your belongings.

State Farm camper damage

Last year my neighbor took camper out of storage with everything normal. This year took camper out of storage and had water damage. called state farm & they said it was (lack of maintenence) so they won't cover any of it, but they now know about the damage so they won't have to pay as much if something else happens. What a racket, take your money every month and not cover obvious damage! Don't buy state farm insurance! Both her & I had state farm but are in process of switching. Found a hole poked in rubber roof that looks like a small branch landed & tore quarter size hole in.Anybody blind could see damage but adjuster said he didn't know if he could cover. Best advertising GEICO could get! Or PROGRESSIVE. Both of us have HAD state farm for 20 years or more. Thats gonna change!

State Farm accident

What has happened to State Farm? They have gone from being a reputable company to one with no integrity and disgraceful business ethics using any reason, however unrealistic, to deny claims. I was involved in an accident in which their insured client hit my vehicle while I was stopped at a red light in the left turn lane waiting for the light to change. He lost control of his vehicle on the cross street and hit the front of my car. They are saying this was caused by a third vehicle that had no physical impact with either the vehicle that hit me or my vehicle. Therefore, they are denying any liability for the repair of my automobile when the damage was clearly caused by their insured client as verified by the police report.

This is the second time State Farm has denied a legitimate claim on my behalf. The first involved a property damage which was resolved in civil court with them being forced to pay for the damage to my condo as again it was clearly caused by the malfunction of a dishwasher in their client's unit.
If requested, I will be glad to send additional information in verification of the above.

On your second issue, I am glad that you were eventually paid, but normally someone isn't negligent (which is what it takes to have a liability claim) just because of a dishwasher malfunction. You should have a condo insurance policy that protects your property.

If a third vehicle hits a second vehicle, and the second vehicle hits yours, the third vehicle is responsible for the chain reaction. Sorry, but you don't have a leg to stand on.

Wife was in an accident where her legs we're amost cut completely off. here in Michigan "Full Insurance Coverage" entitles her to whatever she needs for the rest of her life as long as it's medically necessiary. State farm refuses to pay 50% of the 1.5 million dollars in surgerys she's had. Been a legal battle for two years now going on the third just trying to get what she is owed after paying 17 years of insurance to the very company that denys her the benefits she paid in to.

State Farm dropped from coverage

I was dropped from coverage by Al Cheney, Agent for Allstate Insurance.
I had water damage in the basement, filed a claim and was paid. 18 months later was dropped. Al Cheney was not an advocate for me. He was rarely in the office and did not take ownership for the process brought forward by State Farm. I would not do business with Al Cheney, State Farm or recommend him to anyone. There are a number of other customer oriented agents in the Rochester area that will be your advocate and provide you and your family with insurance coverage you need. I am not an agent. I'm not in the insurance business. Just a citizen in the community who believes there are better insurance service providers out there.

i am not an agent of allstate i do not kow the agent, but what i do not understand is where do you get off thinking that your agent is supposed to advocate for you. He represents the company not you. If you want someone that represents you, you should look for an independent agent not a captive agent that represents one company. if he pushes too hard there could be ramnifications for him.

Also insurance is a private business not a social service, , if an insurance company no longer wants to do business with you why would you want to continue with them?

I am an independent agent who is licensed in michican and I totally understand the hard property market that exists there.

In the future this client should purchase insurance and kow that all insurance companies are in business to make money that is it. Allstate owes it to their shareholder to make sure they rid the company of bad risk. They alos owe it to their clients otherwise teir esisting clients wolud have to pay higher premiums to offset the claims.

State Farm illigal increasing in monthly payment

myname is: Helen David Yousif
my e-mail: [protected]@hotmail.com

I am and my brother (we live in same address) are policy holders of this car insurance company (2 cars and home), I am working, my brother got laid off because of the current situation the company closed.
I have complaint about this car Insurance because they increased our payment by $10.00 for eache without any previous notice or any evidances, when I called askiny why this happened, they said the rate increased for every one because of the accident rates in the area.

this always been happened with almost all car Insurances, is this right?
I think this is robbery, if these companies can't handle their problems, then I think they better close their business instead of stealing all people. when they sign any policy with any customer they promise to give compansation for any accident or they mean to steal others and to compansate whoever did a an accident.
I will not accept this as a Canadian Citizen

I want to ask:
1. am I responsible for others who making accedent? why should they increase my rate to give to other, in this recession circumstances we meight lose our job at any minute, especially now we have one incom the government should support citizen against these compoanies.

2. are these car insurance companies authorized to play with their customer's payment as they want whenever thay want?

3. has the goverment any controll on these copanies ?

4. why should they increase my payment without any notice or any reason, I didn't made any change, I didn't do any accident?

State Farm lost over $38000 out of my 401k

In July 2008 my wife and I decided to roll over our 401k plans to a self directed IRA. They use a company called Asensus to administer their 401K.

Asensus did not know what forms we needed to fillout. We did everything they asked in a very timely fashion.

After several months of going back and forth they finally accepted the initial paperwork we submitted the first time back in July.

On a 3 way call (that was recorded) Asensus, my wife and our State Farm agent, they stated everything is fine and a check will be cut and sent tomorrow. Great.

A few weeks went by and we contacted the Self Directed IRA. They said they never received any funds. From the date of the phone call to the date we found out they never sent the funds, the stock market dropped 3000 points. As a result of this we lost approx $38000.00, we are not sure exactly how much we lost, State Farm will not give us the reports they promised and we have requested many times.

After months of arguing with State Farm, they will not give us our money. They said "Assensus rep made a mistake"

We have current reports that show assensus terminated our plan and they took 30 days to mail the check. While our plan was terminated, our 401K was subject to market conditions, we lost $38000.00. Does this make any sense?

Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

State Farm insurance hail damage

I purchase Insurance with these ###s in November on our new house, yesterday we had a bad hail storm, I called them this morn to send someone out to check the roof, Casey told me that I would have to pay the first $2800 on the repairs, 2% of the loan, I asked her why she did'nt tell me that WHEN I bought the policy, she said if you don't insure your cars with them too, they charge you 2%, or 1% if you insure your cars, I have never heard of this, , I thought we had a right to buy Insurance where we pleased, this sounds like a penalty/blackmail has anyone else experienced this? This ###s are history in the making with me! If you have STATE FARM you might want to check this out!

NO, what I expected was NOT to be blackmailed, because Casey Knew I had two houses, and 4 cars she wanted all of the business, she did'nt bother to tell me anything until after the fact, now the bids I am getting for a roof are closer to $8200, and all I can collect from State Farm is $4300, The agent had a responsibility to explain this to me before she took MY money, she told me because she did'nt insure the cars with her as well she wrote it up to be a 2% deductible, This was the agents fault, If she had told me this from the git go, this would not have happened, How many people out there actually read the whole contract? As I recall I never even saw the contract as it was delivered to the closing table when we bought the house, and having known Glen & Casey for over twenty years as a prior customer one would have thought they could be trusted, to do the right thing. This was pure chicken ###. The bottom line is DO NOT trust anybody when it comes to your property or your money!

Try reading your policy next time.
"you may want to check this out" -what? the deductible you agreed to?

Even if you didn't read the detailed 6-7 page contract, there is a 1/2 page summary that clearly lists your coverage and deductible that literally takes 30 seconds to read and can be comprehended by a 15 year old. If you didn't have the sense or time to at least read that, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

As a staff person in an agents office, I think possibly there was confusion about the policy. I agree with the prior comment. You have a 2% deductible, which is solely based on amount of Dwelling Coverage you agreed to on your home. Nothing to do with the loan. I have yet to ask anyone what the loan on their home is, unless I'm quoting them Disability or Life insurance to cover the mortgage. State Farm as a rule of thumb requests policyholders to meet and discuss coverages with clients...not all clients or agents are receptive to this. In your case, it's an opportunity to review coverages, and hypathetical situations. A good agent, or staff person would make you aware of your policy limits and liabilities. That doesn't mean you will remember them 5 years later. I'm sorry for your loss! I do advise insureds take a higher deductible, but that they have that money set aside for catastrophic situations. Better for you to keep your money than to give to us. Not all agents make decisions on your behalf. You may want to request an insurance review with your agent ASAP! This was human error with regard to your knowledge...not State Farm as a company! Again, I'm sorry for your loss, the worst part of my day is telling someone their loss isn't covered, or they have to come out of pocket more than is affordable. Laurie in MN

It is called a percentage deductible and it has nothing to do with your loan but rather the amount you insured your property for. I recommend you get a copy of your policy and discuss the matter with whomever your agent is. If you feel you were not properly informed in November when you purchased the policy which is a contractual obligation between you and your agent (BTW as the consumer you have an obligation to read the contract and ask questions) you can always contact another agent in your area. Did you actually speak with the agent or somebody in the staff that may not fully understand the terms and conditions? Again your deductible is something you agreed to pay when you took out the policy, and if you did not understand the terms of the contract then it was your responsiblity to ask questions; regardless it appears you have what is known as a percentage deductible and again has zero to do with your loan; however is based on a percentage of what your house is insured with. Oh and if you don't like it you can always change it but I'm sure you expected you'd never sustain a loss and a % deductible is much cheaper than say a $1000 deductible.

I will give them a free answer...You have to determine if the pension was saved before or after taxes. If it was before taxes, I am sorry, but you are going to have to pay the taxes now. Since your husband is a former State Farm Agent and probably licensed to sell securites products during that time, he should understand that. Hire a tax professional!

Had State Farm insurance for 30 years with no problems. Had it in Arkansas, Oklahoma and now Louisiana. And by the way State Farm in Louisiana is $200 higher per car, per year for the exact same coverage. But now I have changed to another company. After 30 years with State Farm I moved to Louisiana and got an agent that could not bill me, call me or even mail me . My insurance got cancelled with-out me knowing and now State Farm will not insure Me because my insurance got cancelled even though it was their fault! So now I get to pay the fine to the D.M.V. while getting all this fixed. State Farm says I can get coverage after 6 months, No Thanks, I'll pass !

My car was hit when parked. Bumper ripped off and quarter plate damaged. State Farm wants only to pay for less than half of the bumper repair. I provided estimate to put back the damaged bumper and they don't want to pay that either since it is higher than a new bumper. The reasoning is that the bumper already had a dent. They do not want to pay for rent a car (one week) that I had. Let's get together a file a unified complaint we should not let these guys push us around anymore. They take our money but when we need them they refuse to do their duty.

Thanks,

This year in Ohio there have been many horrific storms doing much damage to a lot of peoples personal property's. I filed a claim clear back in April and I am still trying to get my money for the damage to my home, we were out of power for 27 hrs and we are farmers and had 100's of pounds of meat in our freezer. I had to call someone to come and hale all the meat and debris from the storm, that alone cost me $255.00. I have never filed a insurance claim in my life so I didn't know I should have taken picture of everything, I don't have a camera, I could just about died. Now they are asking me the same questions over and over and over and over and I keep giving them the same answers. I am so tired of state farm, they are crooks and obviously don't want to pay for my damages. I am going to finish this nightmare and then I am going to switch insurance company's

State Farm sends out a renewal bill with your ID Cards. They also send you a cancellation notice. The agent would be putting himself at risk for a liability lawsuit if he tries to send you an agent created letter. The bottom line is, you didn't pay your bill. Quit trying to blame everyone else but yourself. Take responsibility you deadbeat!

State Farm state farm insurance suspending license?

Thanksgiving day i had went to grab my car and park it in front of my apartment figuring this would be an easy task. On my way to paralell park outside this black car speeds up on my back end and blairs the horn. So i go up to the next parking spot while traveling to this area the car even tries to moneuver around me on a one way street. I finally arrive, on the same street at another parking spot. As i try to back in the car zooms up behind me. He instantly gets out of the car and yells "you broke my car!" . After this had happened i had gone inside my girlfriend had heard the guy laying on the horn and watched the whole thing. This being a car i had just purchased i had not insured it yet. So i had exchanged information with the driver who was using state farm insurance. Two weeks later i get a call from asking me what had happened they also called my girlfriend and got her say. Another two weeks rolls by and they call me back saying that he had told them another story and he had a police report? That is amazing, he actually had the police come while i was gone. Today i recieve a call from OSI Collections which is state farms collection agency. This is strange because for two months i had not heard from state farm and all of a sudden i have to pay 1200.00 dollars in repair for this guys car or the insurance company will suspend my license and my moms. I cannot believe i had not gotten any result on the accident untill now. I then called and spoke with state farms insurance they in fact told me that they are always bias for the customer. And that if i did take it to court they would not release it from collections.

Insurance companies cannot suspend your license. I believe you are a liar, and you did not have sufficient insurance to repair this guy's vehicle. You should be incarcerated. I am tired of idiots like you causing damage without proper insurance.

So what happened? Did your license get suspended? or do collection agencies just say that to get you to pay? I really want to know. You had no ticket or report to DMV, right? And they went behind your back and lied and made it sound like your fault. Can they get away with that? does the DMV really take licenses away for nonpayment to a collection agency? In Illinois does this happen? Let me know. Thanks.

I agree with "no time for idiots' You are up the creek without a paddle. When they first contacted you it appears you admitted to haveing no insurance or you told the driver whom you hit. Sadly you were backing up which about 99.9% of the time means you will be the at fault driver. Not only did the police find you at fault but also the insurance company - two different agencies but both found you to be the liable party.

It is your responsbility before driving off in a new car to buy insurance - its a state regulation and because you were driving w/o a license and were at fault yes the insurance company can file a claim with the DMV and once a judgment is received they will revoke your license. You're better off paying a monthly payment to the collections agency or setting up a lump sum offer or you will be driving unlicensed and have a judgment against you, mean while your credit rating continues to decline.

You have to own up to your responsibilities, if you're going to drive buy insurance.

State Farm fired for working to much

I worked for this company for 10years. Was a very dedicated employee and did a good job for them. I was given a new boss in January and he began writing me up, harrassing me and giving me extra work. By April he made me aware that i was going to be fired.
After i went to Human Resources Dept. and complained about him, i was told I had done nothing wrong. In June I was fired work "working overtime and not getting paid for it".!

State Farm abandonment

Gentlemen,

So let me get this straight. As an insurance provider you want to sell your products, services, and policies to your customers until you decide its too risky to provide insurance. Hmm, isn't your business model based on risk and reward? Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. It sounds as if the organization could use a business coach on how to make good business decisions that benefit their customers and their shareholders.

"Like a good neighbor statefarm is there"...you have got to be kidding me! As a 20+ year customer with home and auto policies, and ZERO claims I find it unconscionable that your would hide behind your desks and let the media tell me you are dumping me. What a crock. You should come up with a way to manufacture a non-rechargeable electric car. You've got the list of suckers, I mean customers that bought into your first concept and convincing us you would be there. I'm sure you could sell that car and then have the tow truck driver tell the poor chump that he bought a car that he cant use because the maker decided they were going another direction.before they made a battery charger.

A couple of thoughts. America is such a great place that we allow our 'good neighbor' to say, screw our Florida neighbors, we are only going to sell them our services that offer minimal risks. And to think the state would probably give you a license to sell peaches at a roadside stand just baffles me. Hey, if we are not good enough to buy all of your products, I suggest you load up the uhaul and take the rest with you.

Even though state farm is by far not the cheapest insurer, I have probably turned down thousands of requests to take up others offers and passed up thousands in savings...heck, my 'good neighbor' has been there for me (wait did I mention 0 claims in 20 years) 'er would be there for me if circumstances required, so why would I do that to my good neighbor that takes care of me. Even though some mail campaign tells me, we'll take just as good care of you and cost you less. C'mon give us a shot. We want your business and will treat you like family. Uh oh, where did I hear that before I would think, oh, that good neighbor named State Farm. I cant leave him, he's a great guy, got good kids, a great staff and really wants to talk to me when I stop in to say hey.

So, my good neighbor wants to raise rates 47% because of rising costs or whatever. Someone has been stealing the newspaper off his driveway (or his foreclosed neighbors driveway), because he obviously hasn't seen that property values have fallen over 50%. So what you are really asking Florida is a 97% rate hike. I'd turn it down to. I would feel funny borrowing 10 bucks from my neighbor, but obviously my 'good neighbor' feels its his given right to be excessive in his requests. Maybe I should go out and find the latest home value figures. last I checked, I have $350000 coverage on my home that the median value is now 279000. Now, I didn't ask you my good neighbor to re-evaluate my home when the values plummeted, but like a good neighbor I figured just in case something happens "you'll be there", so why fix what's not broken, besides it's all good, we're neighbors.

Now what would a true neighbor do? If you are statefarm you move out of the state and leave some of your belongings behind. But me, I am a good neighbor and would go tell the guy that's been there for so many years for me, hey, there's no need to move out of the state, just move away from the neighbors that duped you and built a house 3 feet away from being taken over from high tide. We're not all bad neighbors, we look out for each other, but you need to lose those friend on the water, they are just begging you to let them build that fixer upper into a party palace on the beach as their weekend get away. This neighbor (me) would say, hey stop hangin out with those guys, they are bad news its a no win situation and it will ultimately alienate our neighborly ways.

I'm not in the insurance business but I consider myself to be business savvy. How can I seem to understand the underlying issue, but the people that bleed the red logo don't?

Regards
Austin

I live in Las Vegas NV. and I have two homes five autos and two motorcycles all with State Farm. On July 9 of this year we had a strong storm rip through the valley ( heavy rain with 60 plus MPH wind) my roof leaked into my finished garage and leaks also in the formal dining room, the wind removed two wind turbines and destroyed the solar system for the pool. I called my agent and reported the damage, he gave me a number to call ( 11 July ) and I was given a claim number and I was told that a claims examiner would be out within two days to look at the damage. The claims examiner did not show up on the promised date ( I took off work to accommodate them ) I called the claims office late on the afternoon of the 11th July to see if the examiner was running late and I was told that this was the first time they had heard of my claim, when I asked how come I have a claim number the response was that I was a liar, and that a person would show up on friday because it is policy to show up within two days. I took off Friday the 15th and their representative showed up about 4 pm. When I showed the claims rep the opening to get into the attic ( a Female ) the rep said I don't go in attics so she stuck her hand up into the attic with camera in hand and took photos in a 360 degree manner. She then asked if I had a ladder because she did not have one. She then went on top of the roof and said that there was evidence of wind damage, and would cover the solar system and turbines but the roof leak dad damage to sheet rock paint and leak in formal dining room would not be covered because it was her opinion that the roof had seen better days and was worn out. We had rain during the winter and had no leaks at that time, the roofer stated that the high wind forced the water up under the shingles and caused the leak. Ok then I would pay for the roof repair and they ( insurance ) would cover the solar and turbines. It has now been over 30 days and several calls to my agent and the claims center and no one will return my calls how long does a reasonable man have to wait before the insurance company is in breach of contract or acting in bad faith.

i have had state farm for 21 years. i have had 2 claims 14 years apart. i received letter from state farm letting me know that they were not renewing my policy in May because my 2 claims were unacceptable. not sure why we pay into insurance if we are not allowed to use it in a time of loss. i guess the only thing that is acceptable with state farm is to pay your premium and never have a claim. i am very upset with state farm and will never have anything nice to say about them. i have been searching for a new insurance company to take me and they will not accept me as a new customer because i have had a fire loss in the last five years. so what do i do, who do i turn to. when and if i find someone to insure me i will have to pay a very high rate i'm sure. state farm is not a good nieghbor.

My good Neighbor just cancelled me. Why? Because i filed a subrogated claim that they assured me would not be held against me. I had a contractor working in my house and he ruined the floors in my house. He reported it to his insurance who decided not to pay even thought the contractor admitted his guilt. My agent assured me that they would step in remedy the situation and would collect from them. In turn I was cancelled for this. I was a life long customer of State Farm. Over 20 years insuring my two trucks and a motorcycle and my home. Stay away from State Farm they are nasty greedy corrupt and have no integrity or loyalty to their customers.

Homecomings has helped ruin my credit when 2 months after closing, STATE FARM contacts THEM requesting payment for our homeowners insurance, which; as AZ Law dictates, 14 months had been paid for in escrow at closing. I have all documentaion from the title company, including a copy of State Farm's cancelled check...As a result, our 2 month's worth of escrow account was drained and showed a negative balance, which has since been reported to the credit bureaus regularly, our monthy payment on a 30 year fixed increase $500 and we have been given the '...not looking goood..., ' regarding our recent loan modification request. Bottom line, State Farm denys everything even though I have all the proof, they even issued new car insurance policy numbers around the time they 'debited' our escrow account fraudulently. Don't you think my mortgage company would have been calling if they didn't show any policy? How about State Farm calling, you know since we're on a first name basis with Curt Garrett's Tempe, AZ office staff. Hum...

Clearly you are angry, but perhaps instead of believing 100% of the media you need to do a little research. Let's for fun sake say for every dollar collected it costs two dollars to pay claims. How long do you think an organization can stay in business? Do you realize the destruction the past several years has cost Florida insurers. Oh by the way, Allstate pulled out also, but they waited for State Farm to do it first so they could avoid all the media attention. Yeah I'm a policyholder also, but before I jumped off the cliff and called my agent to complain and curse him out I stepped back and gathered all the information. My agent took the time to explain this is how much it costs us we are making on a policy and this is what it's costing us. Without the insurance rate they would go belly up. Oh and what if they raised rates 47% you'd ### then also, because then you'd have to pay more money. You're right it sucks because we are all affected. I live north of Orlando have not seen a hurricane in over 25 years but guess what, I pay an increased premium because I choose to live here. Now consider this, it is the govenor trying (he hasn't succeeded yet) to push out ALL insurance companies, you know what that means? Your right to choose who insures your home dwendles down to piece of crap carriers who have no financial backing. At least if your house gets hit by a hurrican you know State Farm is there financially to pay your damages - you really think if Citizens gets stuck with all the State Farm, Allstate and who ever else policyholders they will have enough to sustain your damages if we ever get hit by a big one. Rule of thumb, don't believe everything you read in the media they are there to get your feathers ruffled. Until you get a cancellation letter I don't think State Farm is going anywhere, and if they don't then you cried over spilled milk.

I think I agree. It's a little hard to follow the entire narrative.

I was informed by State Farm that, after more than 30 years of my family being a customer that they were canceling our homeowners insurance because we were too close to the water. During a follow up call, I was informed that they have changed there risk thresholds and since my house is less than 2500' from the water, they were canceling my policy.

Like you, I bought 30 years worth of their B.S. and stayed with them even though they were not the least expensive option.

Why would you loan money to her? To begin this has nothing to do with State Farm Insurance but rather an individual person.

State Farm putting burden of proof of damage back on me

On October 15, 2008 I was traveling North Bound. A buck ran across 2 south bound lanes, a 4 lane grassy median, and then over the left passing lane in front of my car and hit the right front and side. I was apx 1/2 mile from the exit. So I proceeded to get to a safe place. I pulled over to an Auto Collision place and my car made horrific sounds and dumped the entire cooling system onto their lot as it overheated. I have been hit by deer before, but nothing like this. You could not open the hood to my car and my car looked horrible there in the dark of the night. There is a huge whining sound and steam coming from all over. I have to have my husband come pick me up. I call the place where my car died at and leave a vm because they are closed that evening. I also call my insurance company and they give me a claim number and advise that this place is State Farm approved. Now mind you I still have the car keys. The next morning I call the place where my car died at... and they believe the car is repairable, but that I arrange to have a rental car. I repeatedly called the collision repair place asking about my engine because the radiator was squashed and pushed up hard and the fact that my coolant dumped all over their parking lot, also the fact that the engine sounded horrible before the car stopped there in there lot. That estimate did not move even after they supposedly checked my engine. I also kept asking are you sure my car is not totaled? And repeatedly no. Mind you I never spoke to my adjuster.. he or she never called. Something did not sound right... Estimate $5365.00 and that did not cover what State Farm would have to pay for Car Rental. My car is a 2003 Pontiac Vibe with almost 91, 808 miles. It made no sense that they did not total car. But I did not want to be difficult. They were to fix my car in 11 days.. I received my car back on October 31st. I had to pick it up after work. Collision place not open on weekends and close anywhere from 5-5:30. I was not even sure until later my work day that the car was complete. They hid the keys so that I could pickup the car. I dropped off my rental keys in their drop box. Immediately when I got the car there were issues. I had no left turn signal, no horn, battery light kept blinking on and off, hub cap had huge hole in it, hazzard lights did not work, the lights mis-aligned, speckled plastic in the headlight that they replaced. I took the car for a drive the next day in the daylight to see if I could discover anything else wrong. I left a voicemail with my Insurance Agent and also with the collision repair. That if they could not fix the obvious then how was I to have faith in any engine repairs.. and that I was driving a compromised vehicle and that I worried for my safety. They relayed the information to the claims office which in turn they stated that the claims adjuster would look into. Also that I could not take off work the next week because I had off site spec. gas training for work. But I did take it in on Tuesday, November 10th. They gave me a rental car for the day.. and I thought they went over the things that my husband to had called in such as the alignment and how the car drove. They fixed some of the items I mentioned not he speckled headlight.. but it seemed that they worked better so I gave that a pass. The battery light would still flicker on and off from time to time.. but figured it was what the collision place said.. paint on the wires and that I could take it back. I only drive to work and back, I was taking Italian and go to the gym.. but I do that on my way home from work. So no extra mileage. I did complain on the decrease in my gas mileage from 31 down to 23mpg. And stated something about the white smoke from exhaust. It was so cold I thought with the new radiator that this was just the car working itself. On December 4th I had to drive to Philadelphia to pick up my sister and husband from the Airport for she was visiting for the weekend. I had to return her on December 7th back to the airport in Philadelphia my car ran funny, but did not overheat or anything. I did not go to work on December 8th. I went to work on Tuesday, December 9th. I noticed straight away I had no heat in my car. It was 23 degrees that day... I froze all the way to work. My engine light flickered on just as I got to work. I immediately called my insurance and they had me call my claims office. I told them I had no heater and this was supposedly entirely replaced along with my radiator and cooling system. I also advised again of the decrease in mileage, white smoke... etc. In the interim my husband called the Collision place and they proceeded to say that the no heat was not related to the repair work they had done but that they would look at it WHAT? You replace the entire heating/cooling and radiator .. and it is not your workmanship? Anyway the insurance claims office called me back to tell me to bring my car into the collision shop the following day. Also that the adjuster would call. I received no call yet again. Well guess what on the way home... at the same exact spot that buck hit me ... my car totally lost power (like someone pulled the keys out of the ignition). My engine seized and I hardly made it on the shoulder. There was no overheating... there was no engine indicator light. Car would not start again. We waited for Triple AAA to tow us off the road because car was in a compromising position... towed it to the Collision Repair because they were to check it out anyway. I called that night from the side of the road to the claims adjuster place and filled them in. The following morning I had my girlfriend bring me to work and had the rental place drive me a rental car. The auto collision place advised that they were authorized to look at it and approved for the car rental. I called the Claims office again to advise that after googling on the internet that it sounded like a head gasket .. and this can happen if losing all coolant and if when replacing that the entire system was not pressurized and or mixed right. The collision repair place called stating that they needed it to be put on a diagnostic and that they could send it to their mechanic or if I wanted to .. I could send to mine .. and it would be authorized to be checked by State Farm. Again no call from this adjuster which we kept being told that we would be called by. I said I rather my mechanic. (I am not going to have buddies cover up one another's workmanship). I was initially told that the adjuster would of gone down to collision place when they got the car back this 3rd time. But later it was implied he/she was not. So I contacted my place to say the car was going to be going down there. Mind you when I had no heat I had asked to the insurance claim place, that I was thinking about having 2nd opinions on the work on my car. Then again told that when it was at my mechanic shop that the adjuster would be there. Anyway it came back that it must be the timing chain.. that from the collision place before went to my mechanic.. and I feel that my auto mechanic was not told about all that happened to my car from accident etc. So he initially thought the same. Which with the phone calls me and my husband had with the original dealer of my car and another car dealership said it would not happen with my car the liters etc. That there was no way it was the timing chain. When it was initially told to us by the insurance claims and Auto collision that timing chain my husband was on the phone stating this is not our wear and tear.. because that is what they kept trying to tell us. I did not believe it was the timing chain. It did not fit. But they degraded us.. gave us no respect and told us basically tough it was out cost. No matter what the other dealers were telling us.. they were not paying and it is what it is. We then asked for a more accurate estimate then just more than $1000.00 for the timing chain.. and so our mechanic started looking .. and he called us and stated he was sorry .. with the information he was given and the strong arming of the adjuster he thought it was the timing chain.. but he could not see totally at time.. but now he can see that it was not the timing chain what so ever. And that he knew that it was the gasket. So again we went back to the claims each and every time asking to speak to this ghost adjuster with no name or phone number. We figured that he/she was upsidedown because the estimate for the repairs should of had the car totaled from the get go. So my car needs an entire engine.. my mechanic can get an engine for apx 1500 and that does not include the mechanic hours. We tell the insurance company it is not the timing belt.. and they say it was our responsibility to authorize a complete rip down of the engine and that was the only way to determine if head gasket and then that would not prove it was from accident or repair. To rip down is apx 4 hours.. and at $65/hour and that is not back together etc. We have paid our $500.00 deductible... 10% of car rental. Loss of work, loss of my class, loss of me going to the gym.. etc. Our Mechanic has stated that our adjuster is not a nice person.. and has implied that no way are they going to admit to their error and will find a way out of paying. My question is this... they never looked at the engine initially from the accident.. the gasket probably was damaged from the dumping of the coolant when the collision happened. They are arguing that in 2 months time that I put on miles and that my car would of overheated and that I would have noticed. Only time car overheated in a visual sense was when I hit the dear and car initially died. With all the wiring problems is it not conceivable that I had no indicator that I had a problem with engine. I have people that can document that my car was not overheating. Also, per my sisters husband who is a repair shop advisor in Colorado.. stated that many times during an entire radiator heating/cooling replacement.. thermostats and sensors are cut by accident or not connected .. therefore making the engine run cold... and not indicating any overheating. I have had this car since it was brand new... my mechanic states my car was always in great condition mechanically. None of this makes sense... When I spoke to this Jennifer from Claims office she keeps implying I drove while overheating and it is my burden to even try to prove it. Also this claims office has told my husband that I must drive the car hard to have made this happened. He laughed.. because I drive the speed limit.. and was very anal when I first got the car back in the first place. I have no speeding tickets since I was 20 something... I have been with State Farm from the early 90's something like 92 give or take. My homeowners insurance is with State Farm.. I am not some swindler. So I called my Insurance rep.. I pled my case. They had the owner call me. I told him as much as I could recollect in Cliff notes. He called to see... he suggested having the shop check for leaks in radiator could of been a defect in radiator.. and if so then it would be the radiator company. I cannot speak for him.. but he did try to find out what they thought my car was worth to have the initial estimate over $5000. I also advised that 2 dealerships could not understand why the car was not totaled with that extensive of an estimate. My rep is giving me respect and hearing me out .. and trying to help on his end. He has given me the feeling that he is uneasy about what has happened to me. But of course he cannot say. I love this office.. they have always been good... but State Farm Claims and their adjusters... are covering up for a job that should of never been done. So in turn they are making me take the lumps. All this transpiring over the holidays of Thanksgiving, and the Christmas Holidays. There Claims adjusters yelling at us.. and telling us any fairtale ie.. timing chain.. etc.. telling me that my car was overheating...and that I drive hard. Telling me that no way was the collision shop wrong.. because they did everything right in pressurizing and mixing the coolant... because the collision place said so... HUH.. the same collision shop that gave me my car back with obvious things not working that I could see... but to take the word on the things unseen that they did right. Please. Now, I have no car.. it is in a shop.. If I proceed with the work... then what... my husband complained of the car pulling before the hub cap replacement.. and again after.. so on this last trip they say well you have scrapes in the new hub... yes but that did not make my car pull.. it was happening before... They said I must of ran into a curb hard... again with my driving. I have a nice driving record. They keep trying to make me sound like Mario Andretti on the highway. Just because they were upsidedown from the get go. My insurance rep could not find out from the adjuster what they felt my car was worth just prior to the accident. No numbers.. ... Anyway.. I am filing with the PA State Insurance Commission and/or take to court. My husband was told that the Insurance Adjusters Supervisor has been handling our case for a while... but still no name.. still no call... just some customer service in between people.. I have spoken to so many people.. people reading scripts on findings from computer screen. Letters in CAPS like shouting at me. But no Adjuster.. have begged .. but nothing. No car... borrowing a friends. Tough around my schedule and Holidays. Happy Holidays to those of you at State Farm. It is always the hard and honest worker that has been paying premiums for those that are dishonest... sad is that it will come back and bite you in the bum when you knowingly are wronging your customers.
