Dear Southwest Airlines Customer Relations,

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding my experience on Flight #107 from Dallas Love Field (DAL) to Chicago Midway (MDW), scheduled to depart at 7:50 PM and arrive at 10:05 PM. While one employee deserves recognition for her exceptional service, another employee's behavior resulted in one of the worst travel experiences I have ever had.

First, I would like to recognize **April, the manager at Dallas Love Field**. She handled a very stressful situation with professionalism, compassion, and respect. She listened to our concerns, treated us with dignity, and worked hard to resolve an issue that should never have happened. Employees like April are a tremendous asset to Southwest Airlines. She deserves recognition for her outstanding customer service.

Unfortunately, my experience with another employee, **Michael M.**, was the complete opposite.

I checked into my flight early that afternoon, paid to check my baggage, and arrived at the airport around 6:00 PM. I proceeded to my gate and waited to board. The departure gate had already been changed from Gate 19 to Gate 7, and the flight was delayed approximately 20 minutes.

My boarding group was **Group 8**, the last boarding group. Boarding was moving unusually slowly because the employee scanning boarding passes repeatedly walked away from the podium. In addition, the speaker system at the gate was not working properly, making it very difficult for passengers seated farther away to hear announcements.

When boarding began, I moved closer to the boarding lanes and sat near the wheelchair seating area so I could clearly hear when my group was called. The boarding display still showed **Group 6 boarding, with Group 7 next**, and I was watching it closely. Along with me, four other passengers from Group 8 were also waiting.

Instead of calling Group 8, Michael M. began calling standby passengers to the customer service desk. When I approached him to ask why our boarding group had not been called, he immediately became rude and confrontational. He loudly stated:

> "I called your group, and if you didn't hear it, it's not my problem—it's your problem! You need to stop lying, miss!"

Shortly afterward, the other four passengers who had been waiting with me came forward and explained that they also had never heard Group 8 called. None of us knew each other, yet we all experienced the exact same issue. We explained that if one person had missed the announcement, that would be understandable, but for five different passengers sitting near the gate to all miss it suggested there was a problem with the announcements or the speaker system.

We even pointed out that the boarding screen still showed Group 6 and Group 7, indicating that Group 8 had not yet been displayed. Michael M. dismissed our concerns, saying it did not matter what the screen showed because he claimed he had already called the group.

I also asked why my name had never been announced as a final boarding call. He had never asked for or verified any of our names. Instead, while we were standing directly in front of him, he immediately began giving our seats to standby passengers.

When he told us the gate was already closed, I asked why he was handing my seat to another passenger if boarding had supposedly ended. Rather than answer my question, he ignored me and continued issuing boarding passes to standby travelers right in front of us. He ultimately gave away five seats that belonged to passengers who had been waiting at the gate.

When I became upset, he threatened to call airport security simply because I questioned what was happening. By the time his manager arrived, our aircraft had already pushed back from the gate.

At that point, we were issued standby boarding passes for the next flight, with no guarantee of getting on. This created significant stress for all of us. One passenger's daughter was in the hospital. Two of the affected passengers were 16-year-old athletes whose parents had to be contacted. I personally had work at 7:00 AM the next morning.

Thankfully, April stepped in. She listened carefully, took our concerns seriously, and worked diligently to resolve the situation. She secured confirmed seats for all of us on the next flight and handled everyone with patience and respect. She truly turned an awful experience into one where we at least felt heard.

Unfortunately, even after that, Michael M. continued behaving unprofessionally. When issuing my new boarding pass, he intentionally assigned me the very last seat on the aircraft, while another passenger who came after me received a seat near the front of the plane. It felt like retaliation after I questioned his actions.

The replacement flight, scheduled for 10:50 PM, was also delayed. We did not depart until approximately midnight and finally arrived at Chicago Midway around 1:50 AM. Because my checked bag had traveled on the earlier flight, I had to retrieve it from the baggage claim office. I did not arrive home until approximately 3:30 AM and had to report to work by 7:00 AM, leaving me with barely two hours of sleep.

This was my first time flying with Southwest Airlines, and it turned into the most disrespectful and disappointing airline experience I have ever had. I understand that delays and operational issues happen. However, there is no excuse for the way Michael M. treated multiple customers, ignored legitimate concerns, gave away confirmed seats while passengers were standing at the gate, and spoke to customers in such a disrespectful manner.

I respectfully request that Southwest Airlines:

* Conduct a full investigation into Michael M.'s conduct, including reviewing the gate surveillance footage and boarding announcements from Flight #107.
* Recognize April for her exceptional professionalism and customer service.
* Reimburse me for the cost of my flight or provide appropriate compensation for the unnecessary inconvenience, poor customer service, and significant delay caused by this situation.

I have always heard positive things about Southwest Airlines, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I hope you will take this complaint seriously and provide a fair resolution.

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

[Farheena Azmat Syed]

That is a textbook case of a power-tripping employee who should never be at a gate. April deserves a raise, but Michael needs a formal review. Here is your practical path: call Southwest's Executive Customer Relations directly (not the general line) and ask for a written investigation into Michael's behavior, citing the seat giveaway and your name not being called. Also, file a DOT complaint about denied boarding because you had a confirmed seat and he gave it away while you were present. For compensation, demand a full refund plus a travel voucher equal to your lost work time, not just a token apology. You have witnesses and a timeline, so they owe you more than just a "sorry".
