Southern Motion — Sofa and loveseat
To our shock the pieces arrived on 2/14/20 and we were shocked at the inferior poor workmanship, and noticeable defects.The furniture looked USED. When we sat on the furniture we could NOT believe how uncomfortable it felt ( nothing like the furniture in the store) but ALSO the squeaking noises in all of the seats !We called customer service the NEXT DAY /told them to pick up the items .They said NO .They said we had to go to the store where we bought it, which we did that same day .The manager there said they had NOTHING to do with this problems and had to CALL CUST.SERVICE! We kept telling the store manager it was his employees mistake to mislead / misinform us about how great Southern Motion furniture was .What a LIE!
The manager said we could have a"furniture expert" come to evaluate the MANY problems .He arrived on 2/24 and his report /findings COMPLETELY confirm .what our 25 pictures .There are numerous defects including poor quality/poor workmanship/ defective materials. SOUTHERN MOTION obviously FAILED to INSPECT the furniture before it left their factory .We asked value city for a FULL refund because clearly, these pieces of furniture were NOT as expected /advertised and ARE NOT up to industry standards .
We are extremely dissatisfied with the horrible furniture built by Southern Motion as well as the unprofessional manner in which we have been treated by Value City (we will be submitting a separate compliant ) who has made NO effort to help us, refuses to pick up the furniture, will NOT provide the appropriate contact info and has stated we "are stuck "with this furniture.
Here are notes from the furniture technician we hired and came to our home 2/24/20 -
1. SEAT CUSHIONS - The FIRST issue is what I believe to be inferior quality foam in the seat cushions .The customer states this is NOT the same as the display in the store. Upon sitting I feeel the foam is quite hard and uncomfortable.There is NO "give" to the seats and I feel certian there is NO dacron wrapping around the foam.This results in the seats being flat and having NO "crown". The foam is also causing the seats to "squeak" when you sit, rise or move. This can be due to the fabric being IMPROPERLY measured, cut and stretched too tightly during the upholstery process.The constant noise is due to the friction between the foam/seat covers.In my business we always used cotton muslim wrapped around the foam before we attached the material .
Also, the seat cushion covers have been improperly sewn and the alignment of the seams from left to right on each seat are noticeably OFF by several inches giving a very sloppy appearance.When looking at the back of the sofa, the 3 sections do not line up indicating the frames are poorly constructed. There is a 3-4 " gap on the outside of the right hand facing piece ( between the seat and back section) .
2.SEAT BACKS - The 2 seat backs on the loveseat were improperly measured, cut, sewn and filled. Becasue they 've been cut too "short" there are gaps between them .The space I measured at 3 1/2 -4 " across and you can see between them to the wall behind.
Dacron is always used to provide comfort AND give shape to a cushion. It has to be inserted all the way out to each cushion corner .This is not the case here .The corners of several cushions are not filled with enough dacron fill so the fabric is loose and baggy. The dacron filling on the center back sofa cushion is so poorly done there is a deep crease/wrinkle in the material .
3.THE ARMS - One of the major things we needed in a sofa was COMFORTABLE ARMS My wife will be having major surgery soon and the floor sample had well rounded, soft padded arms .NOT on this furniture !The "pillow top" arms are NOT uniform from front to back .AGAIN major inconsistencies in craftsmanship .Also they are sloping to one said - "sinking" due to the fabric being stretched to tightly and "pulling".There should be a foam "core" between the wood frame and material which is non existent and the arms do NOT have enough dacron padding/ filling . They are so shabby in appearance they resemble the arms on old, used, second hand flee market furniture .
We are highly SHOCKED to have been written off by both Southern Motion and Crest Furniture /Value City Furniture NJ who, for the sake of a "SALE" TOTALLY misrepresented this furniture as "high quality " .
