Bought a Jetta from Carvana on Saturday. Brakes squeaked right as the guy backed it off the trailer. Didn't really drive it until Monday morning, and the brakes squeaked again and even grinded once on the way to work. Took it to their approved repair facility Monday afternoon after work, dropped it off for brake inspection. Tuesday morning the shop calls me. Brake pads are worn, and rotors show slight grooving. But Silver Rock denies the claim for "wearable items" and says brakes pass their minimum requirements. Obviously I didn't wear the brakes out. Wednesday Carvana will be picking up their car. I want my $21 back for the inspection. Everyone at Carvana agrees with me but won't do anything about it. They'd rather lose the sale and pick up their car, I guess. Horrible. I'm not keeping the car just to fix worn out brakes in 6 months on my own dime.

Claimed loss: $21

Desired outcome: Want my $21 back. Make it $25 for the tax and hassle.

Yeah, that’s the classic “wearable items” loophole — technically true, practically dishonest. Brakes that squeak and grind the day you take delivery? That’s not normal wear, that’s selling a car with brakes already near the end. Good on you for not keeping it just to eat the cost yourself in six months. That’s not stubborn, that’s smart. Sucks about the $21 inspection fee though — feels like a parting slap. SilverRock and Carvana can play their word games, but you’re walking away with your wallet mostly intact and your sanity. On to the next car. You dodged a slow bleed.
