With the latest Pokémon drop, I decided to beat the scalpers and try to get in line at my store. 288 boxes, 2 per person. Got in line at 6am, missed it by 15 people. Only 4 clubs in the S.Florida tri county area serving 100's of thousands of people and sent less than 1,000 boxes (why wasn't it limited to 1 per membership?). Apparently, you had to get in line at midnight to beat the scalpers (but some of us have to work real jobs and can't do that). So, I decided to try my luck online. Got to my computer at 9:30 for the 11:00 drop, sat at my computer staring at the screen for 1 and a half hours, even made a purchase of a digital gift card at 10:45 just to make sure everything was working. Had my phone logged into the app and computer logged into the website (it's what everyone online said was the best practice). At 10:59 the app logged me out and kept saying "technical issues" when trying to log back in. On my computer I was still on the product page, but the "add to cart" button wasn't activating. At 11:01 my page refreshed and crashed. Spent 20 minutes trying to log back in only to see that the product was sold out. Most store had close to 400 boxes ordered according to their stock data, yet they didn't get enough on hand to meet their customers needs. The whole point of being a plus member is to get plus service but all it seems to do is give you access to more head aches.
Claimed loss: my personal time.
Desired outcome: Fix the system that you created to purposely cause chaos.

Ah, the classic battle between scalpers and actual fans who just want a box. I would be fuming too. Here is the strategic counterplay: call Sam's Club corporate and ask for the membership escalation team, not the store. Point out that 2 per membership fueled the scalper frenzy and ask them to retroactively enforce a 1-per-member limit for that specific drop and release any cancelled orders. Also, send a formal suggestion through their feedback portal to implement a verified fan lottery system for high-demand items. For your own practical gain, take the digital gift card you purchased as proof of your active account and demand a small compensation credit for the wasted time. And next time, call the store manager directly the day before to ask about allocation numbers, because the website will always be a mess.
