NewspaperArchive.comDebit card charge

I sign up for their free 7 day trial on 4/07/2021, I cancelled the subscription on 4/14/2021, on 4/16/2021 NewspaperArchive.com charged my debit card in the amount of $80.95. I have emailed them twice about this error and yet to have recieved a reply back. I also tried to call a toll free number that was listed for them on the internet, but got some medical device company. I just simply want them to reverse that charge back to my card.

    NewspaperArchive.comunauthorized subscription

NewspaperArchive.com made unauthorized charges to my debit card in the amount of $159.60 from June 2020 to January 2021 at $19.95 a month for 8 months of a suposed subscription which again, I did not authorize. I have emailed them and called them @ [protected]. The phone # continually rings a busy signal and the responding email response provides a "cat" line which is unavailable.

NewspaperArchive.comCharge on my credit card on 11-05-20 for $74.95.

I haven't used or accessed Newspaper Archives at all in 2020. I don't understand this charge and I in no way am responsible for it. Please have it credited back to my credit card immediately. Additionally, please contact me once this has been done so I will have confirmation that it is resolved. I'd wanted to give you the opportunity to correct this problem before having to get my credit card company involved.
      Thank you,

        NewspaperArchive.comBilling

My membership was included in my ancestry.com membership and should not be billed separately. This is the second time I have had to get this charge to my card reversed. On May 4 you charged my card 148.29. I would like this reversed as I did not authorize it. I didn't really get much use out of the membership because every time I tried to print something it requested that I update and spend more money. I declined each time. I cancelled my Ancestry membership in April 2020 and newspaperarchive.com should have cancelled at the same time. the email I used was jemccully and my ancestry login was jemcully141.

I signed up with newspaperarchives.com with a one week free trial. I realized that it was not worth $49.95 and emailed them to go ahead and cancel, and to notify me of such by e-mail. They did not, so I sent another e-mail asking them to call me. They did not. I sent many e-mails over the next few days, and they never answered. The only thing I heard from them was that on april 10 they would charge me the 49.95. Despite another e-mail expressly telling them not to do that, the charge was made on my credit card. I had a stop put on my credit card, which is quite inconvenient. THEY ARE CROOKS !!! Do not do business with these people.

            Newspaper Archivesunauthorized payment

            Scam.
Original email came from Ancestry Support. Then Archive.com who is also Archives.com and NewspaperArchives.com
Yesterday I received a closed support ticket email from ancestrysupport.com

I cancelled my account 3 times and it keeps getting opened and they keep taking $49.95.
Emails from 2 people in support on 8/4 and 8/5 stating they can't find my info. The exact same email sent twice.
I have been trying to resolve this issue for quite some time.

This morning I was able to contact customer support and have been told my account is now canceled, even though it states it's a limited account, meaning closed, and I will be getting this years payment returned.
However, you will see below that my account was canceled in 2014 and 2015 after they took $49.95 from my account.
I want the 2014, 2015 2016 payments returned. I canceled my account immediently after opening as it was no use to me.
I was told that returns prior to 2016 need to be handled online through [protected]@archives.com.
I emailed then and it was returned undeliverable.

I then got an email yesterday stating my support ticket was closed.
The woman I spoke to today said she found my account and all info is there in the notes.

No I can't. I do't have an acctive account because I canceled it three times. Once just after I opened it for the FREE Access, closing it on the very same day. I then canceled it again, even though it said the account was inactive after you took the $49.99 in July 2015, I then canceled the inactive account recently after receiving a renewal nitification. I CAN send you the payment from my statement showing that you took the money. If my account is inactive and doesn't exist why would I yet get another renewell email? This is all crazy!

            Hello,

Last year I did a trial membership and canceled. In August you charged my account $49.95. When I received the email stating I was going to be charged an annual fee, I went to your site and tried to log on. I was sent a new password to do so. My account showed NULL under membership. To make sure it was in fact NULL, I tried to search for something. It was indeed NULL. Since I was charged I decided to try to use your site. It is still NULL. It askes me to sign up. Please refund the fee of $49.95. It went through under [protected]@outlook.com and my bank account shows a 490641 after your debit.

            Thank you,

            Gina

We bought a one month trial and then cancelled any further subscription. They continued to charge our credit card. We have cancelled, by phone, two more times yet they continue to charge. Each time they say they will not charge again. They refuse to credit us for the fraudulent prior billings.

Company has decent content, but it is relatively unusable because it displays poorly. Often only one quarter of the page shows up. The company does not respond to emails.

After a few months of using this service, I decided to cancel. I called the number provided and spoke to a representative who filed the cancellation. I noticed 5 months later that they were still charging me every month with even a jump in the price for the last 2 months from $9.99 to $29.95. I called and spoke to a man who told me someone would get back to me on the matter within 3 days. Never happened, so I called back and spoke to a supervisor who would only honor me the last 2 months of service as a refund. I asked him why not the whole 5 months and he couldn't give me a reason. It was a total of $89.87 in charges. I still haven't received a dime back.

When I signed on for a year after trying it out for one month they changed the site so I could no longer view results as I used to. Then they started asking for information that I did not have to give when I paid for my subscription and they imposed a page in which if I didn't provide the information I could not proceed to search. After repeated attempts to call with my concerns with no reply I emailed them to cancel my subscription and please refund the remainder of my subscription price. They wrote back and said they cancelled my subscription but could not refund any of my payment. I wrote back and they did not reply.

I subscribed to this in 2010. I called and cancelled in 2012 and was AGAIN charged in 2013. I called and told them I wanted to cancel and that I had cancelled the previous year and wanted a refund. She said I couldn't get a refund, but would cancel. Here we are again a year later and AGAIN they charged me for this!! I call and the lines are busy and it eventually dumped me into a voice mailbox I know won't be listened to. I am at my wits end here. If you do get a person, they are so snotty.

GENEALOGISTS BEWARE! THIS COMPANY IS A RIP OFF! I am an amateur genealogist and I had been looking for a specific obituary. Suddenly I get this post claiming the have 216 articles related to my grandfather. So I go to the site to use the "Free Week" search. They want my credit card info up front to look at the real information in the search - I am normally much smarter than this - but my reason failed me. So I paid $9.95 for one week. I found ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF ANY VALUE. Then I mad a fatal mistake - I must have on on the site for an eighth day. I then get billed $111.95. Not the $19.95 they claim for 2 months. Not the $29.95 for "unlimited months" -- whatever that rip means. And not even the $99.95 they charge for 6 months. How I got to $111.95 I don't know. They refuse to refund my money.
They also own a site called ARCHIVES.COM - which is NOT the National Archives at ARCHIVES.ORG It appears to be the same scam as this site. THIS SITE IS A RIP TOO!

At least they responded to your email. I have used this page for research for my MA thesis and it has proved to be fairly useful. But when I tried to cancel my subscription they would not respond. I actually had to call my bank, make them block my credit card and send me a new one. As I am Norwegian I am not too familiar with the American law system, but should not this page be investigated? When it comes to economics they seem like one big fraud..

                      NewspaperArchive.comPoor quality, low quantity

The quality of the newspaper images provided by NewspaperArchive.com is deplorable. Although the idea of providing scans of newspapers from all over the country is wonderful, when bringing up the scans and not being able to read the text or, in many, many cases, finding the scan cuts of the left or right side, making articles unreadable, is highly disappointing. Additionally, the website functionaity is very poor - once you select and view a particular newspaper, when you return to your search results or index, it places you back at the beginning instead of where you left off. Additionally, I have tried this service three times over the past several years, hoping the quality will improve and that the number of newspapers available will increase. No such luck. The company seems to pick a few towns in a particular state and once they're done, that's it. Also, I notice that they tend to provide ONE newspaper from an earlier date, then when you get the index for that paper, the dates will jump several or many years in the future. I don't believe this is because they found just one newspaper from the earlier date, rather, they are gaming their own system to make people think they have provide papers that go back that far. It's too coincidental that so many newspapers have just one early date and then jump to a much later date. Again, a great concept but very, very poor quality and content. Perhaps Ancestry.com should buy this company and add the quality and quantity we are used to from a good company.

In fact a lot of these websites since the Windows 8 era have stopped updating. Most of the ancestor stuff is also in big trouble trying to get followers and many have shut down. There is software for Linux you can do ancestor stuff on but is a steep learning curve and not for the faint of heart plus not very organized with no way to do it yourself.

Windows 8 and now 10 have screwed the whole computing industry around with MS thinking that it will appeal to phone people which they just shot themselves in the foot but they are not the first big corporation to go into failure mode due to people in charge that don't know what they are doing.

It's all collage grads now that run capitalism that don't know how to handle money.

I don't think anybody is actually running the site seeing since the Windows 8 era they haven't updated or scanned any new newspapers.

Nor would there be anyway to tell if they did.

I just noticed that they charged my account $47.95 on January 14. Over a year ago I signed up for a free 7 day trial. I cancelled it within one day. The site was absolutely useless. It did not have ANY of the information I was looking for. What a joke this was. NOW after all this time they charge me out of the blue.. I called the ph# on their website, which stated they were open & available 24 hours Monday-Saturday. That is a bunch of BS also. No one was there to talk to. I got a quick message to leave a message I did that & have not heard anything back from them. I want, no demand that you credit my account 1st thing in the morning. DO NOT EVER CHARGE MY ACCOUNT FOR ANYTHING, EVER AGAIN. HOW DARE YOU!!!

                        Sincerely,
                        Lori McDowel

Deceptive auto-renewal process. I signed up for a 3 month subscription and was generally pleased with the site but then noticed another charge on my credit card 3 months later. I called to dispute and no one answers their phones. I emailed customer service and they sent me a boiler plate response that said sorry, it was in the terms and conditions. It's one thing to try and trick you with hidden details, but once you're caught you should really give the refund. I filed a report with the better business bureau and called my credit card company. Visa is refunding the charges and taking the issue straight to this shady merchant.

It's too bad a good product has to be ruined by shady business practices.

PLEASE PLEASE READ before you purchased over the internet. Most of the websites use automatic renewals for memberships. This is not exclusive to newspaperarchive.com. I've been a member for a long time and when i want to cancel my account i just called or sent an email before my renewal date and thats it. All of this information was given on our activation email we received when we subscribed and always available in our account page, so please don't say you were never told or knew about this.

I am experiencing the same problems as above. I have been billed multiple times and now reckon that they have overcharged me by nearly $300. No response to emails or phone calls. I am now at the stage of not only wanting my money back but also a deeper investigation into the operation of this outfit. They proport to have charitable links and some kind of Christiian ethic !! As I do not expect to have any luck in getting a response easily I have decide to inform the local Chamber of Commerce and the local newspapers and radio. Maybe if all dissatisfied customers did this then they would have no option but to settle up. maybe the authorities might even take alittle peek at their charitable activities??

I've had the same problem since April 2012, I have two extra membership billing for $71.88 that I want reversed. I've call numerous times, left messages but no call backs. Tried emailing but got a generic response back saying that they will not auto renew my membership. That what I was asking about! In general I like what they have to offer, I've used them for several years with no problems. Its beyond my comprehension why they would treat their customers so poorly. I could see if it were some sleazy porn site or other questionable product! But this historic newspapers!

NewspaperArchives needs to be shut down!

I had the same thing happen to me. The charge for the next 3 months was higher than the first 3 months. They would not return your phone call. You never get a live person when you call even though they say all of their technicians are with someone else.
