Weeks ago, I went to my local NFCU branch to get pre-qualified for a VA loan to purchase a house. I wanted to know how much house I could afford. I brought all my VA documents with me, in an envelope, in case the the loan processor wanted them. I offered my documents, and she refused to accept them. Just filled out a loan application for me, and asked me "how much do you want to spend?"

Is that really how loan pre-qualifications work?

When I told my family about his experience, no one could understand why NFCU did that.
Next, I was assigned a "loan officer," Don Hegardt, who obviously does not know what he's doing.
He filled out my loan estimate documents so wrong, he even got the PROPERTY ADDRESS WRONG, puting it in a DIFFERENT CITY with a different zip code!
Then, every time I call, he's never available, and often does not return calls, even when you leave a message.
When I finally get to talk to him, he does not apologize for his errors, and claims "he got the address from the Title company," but I checked with the Title company, and they had the CORRECT ADDRESS. so, from that wrong address, he processes the WRONG PROPERTY TAXES (knowing I am 100% disabled, so don't pay property taxes in Texas). He keeps compounding problems, making everything harder than it has to be, when the process is already stressful.
Worse, the day after he claims to have "ordered my home's appraisal for the lender," he emails — on a FRIDAY AFTERNOON (this becomes important) that "the appraisal is on hold due to your COE having a different name than your application."
Except I DOWNLOADED MY ACTUAL C.O. E. FROM VA OVER A YEAR AGO, AND IT'S ACCURATE.
So, basically, instead of asking ME for my C.O. E., he digs back 30 years to find one from when I was MARRIED (and active duty), and since then, I DIVORCED MY CHEATING HUSBAND. Why that divorce should interfere in my home purchasing process 30 years later is beyond comprehension!
I already contacted D.E. E.R. S. to correct any 'name anomalies' in their records back in March 2018.

Don claims he's been a loan officer for "20 years," but that does not explain why he keeps screwing up.

At this point, I have threatened to report him to federal authorities for discrimination. Everyone else is doing their job right, except for the folks at NFCU. I'm thinking Don does not know I worked in law enforcement in the military.

Claimed loss: My home appraisal is 'on hold' until at least Monday (when that jerk finally shows up for work, IF he shows up). So, my home purchase is being held up. Call it a $211,020 loss.

Desired outcome: I just want everyone to DO THEIR JOBS PROPERLY, and when needing documents, to CONTACT THE ORIGINAL SOURCE (the veteran).
