My son who is a minor and I are 2 of 6 beneficiaries on a TOD account. I have been trying to get mine and his percentage transferred to our Merrill Lynch account. We opened one because we were told it would make the transfer simpler. 1month ago I started the process and I am still waiting. The first round of excuses was my paperwork wasn’t correct. After 3 attempts they accepted mine and my sons and said it would be 2-3 business days until the transfer. I wrote a check for a down payment on a house and ask the realtor to hold it for a week while the funds were being transferred. 10 business days go by and no transfer or call or email. I call and they said there was one beneficiary they haven’t counseled yet. They were referring to my son who is a minor. Someone is not paying attention at Merrill. For 10 days I waited only to call and find this out. Ok they said 2-3 business days until the transfer. 7 days pass and again there is no transfer and no communication. So I called again and this time they tell me they are having trouble with one of the other beneficiaries account they instructed their percentage to go to. They said they had to transfer every beneficiaries percentage at one time. So again I’m told 2-3 business days. 5 days now and nothing. We lost the house. Will we need to take legal action to get our money?
