Menards - Restocking fee on special orders, without any indication that it is a "special order"

I purchased 4 bathroom faucets on line at menards.com. There was absolutely nothing that stated that these were considered "special order" and even my confirmation email had nothing that indicated that. When it took a really long time to get the faucets, I called the store and asked what was taking so long. This is the first I knew that it was considered "special". I mentioned that I needed them for a project that the contractor was finishing up and would need to come in and purchase something else and return these when they did finally arrive. I was never told that there would be a ridiculous (25%!) restocking fee. When they did finally arrive and I went to return them (I literally never even left the store, just went from the pick up desk to the return desk), I was told that their would be a restocking fee. I talked to the store manager and he was rude and condescending and said "it's our policy and there is nothing that I can do about it". I would have gladly taken a store credit as we spend a lot of money on home improvement projects. I asked for a corporate customer service contact and he said "go to menards. com" and walked away. I did go to Menards.com and filed a customer complaint. I got a response in a few days saying "this is our policy", when I tried to explain that there is no indication anywhere that this was a "special order" and asked to be contacted by a manager, I never heard back. When I called the customer service number, their recording says that everything has to be done in writing and they will not return calls. I sent everything in months ago and have not heard anything back. I filed a complaint with the Wisconsin dept. of consumer affairs and they have been helpful, but all they can really do is send info to Menard's to which their legal department sends a "scripted" response denying any responsibility. This company needs to be held accountable for misleading consumers! I will make it my mission to ensure that they spend more time and money on this issue than they ever would have, had they just acknowledged the confusion and not stolen my 25%! There has to be a way to ensure that they make this more clear to the consumer and these deceitful business practices need to be stopped!
