Life Storage Lights were out on the second floor

11-8-23: around 10am.

I went to my storage unit on the second floor when I noticed the motion sensors were not working where my unit was. I tried calling the front desk but no one answered the phone (the guy was at the desk, he just wasn’t answering the phone). My friend sent her son downstairs to tell the desk clerk what was going on, and he gave him a flashlight that had dead batteries in it. It was a safety hazard with no lights and I couldn’t see so I had to leave. Hope this situation gets resolved.

Claimed loss: I just want an apology.

Desired outcome: I just hope that someone makes the repairs to the lights.

Life Storage Storage Bin

I got my storage bin from Extra Space Storage in St. Louis, MO in October 2021. Everything was fine. They changed to Life Storage then I had a problem. My storage bin was broken into. The lock wasn't broken so it was an inside job. The lock wasn't broken so, it was an inside job. I think it happened because I didn't have their insurance. I had my own insurance. Be aware because it could happen to you.

Desired outcome: It was over $3,000.00 worth of stuff. I would like some kind of refund.

I have an Amazon pickup at the Northside drive location I am being told to get off the property that I'm not supposed to be on the property due to me waiting an hour early for my package to arrive I've been here since 7:00 a.m. this morning I am at the Northside drive location Life storage the employee you will not give me his name but this is highly unacceptable.

I had gotten a unit from the Shrewsbury St Worcester Ma location on July 31. August 1st tried to bring stuff to my unit. Elevators weren't working. Called few days later and still not working. Life Storage Quick rate raise

My first contact with them about the raise without any annoncement was thru their the Internet side on June 19, 2023 when I first saw the raised price - and nobody responded me by today. So, today, 2023-06-30, I contacted with them thru Contact Help Desk and I was told that the answer will take 24-48 hours (additionally to those 2 weeks which are already passed since my first trying of contact with the facility management as I understood).

The reason I tried to contact them: the facility raised my rate for the space occupancy on 17% without prior notice (from $241 to $280). The space was occupied 7 months ago - and I was not warned by the management, clerk Angela, at the time I did my research on the facility coming to them in person that it is their practice to increase rates every half a year (so in a year the rate raise will be 1/3 more expensive of its original price, and in two years in will be cheaper to rent an apartment then to pay for the small storage room). I planned to use the space for the long term storage but now I have to find another space to move my parents' belongings from there - and one more moving is very costly, so the truthfulness and cooperation with customers at this branch of the facility are very poor and the facility is not reliable place for people to use for long term storage.

I want my previous rate - $241/month for a year, up to 12/01/2023, then it can be raised at these 17%. The service should be predictable, respond to their customers in timely manner, and the space should not priced in a year as a half price of apartment renting.

Additinal information about my - NadezhdaS - Compliant: when I was communcating with Help Desk Chat thru Life Storage site, agent Yazliyn requested my last four digites of SSI and my security code to the space, so in case someone with try to break in the door, the service peeople from Life Storage and their contacts will be the first I will point as on possible violators.

Life Storage Security

***RENTERS BEWARE*** Severely disappointed. I rent a 10 x 10 unit at the 23860 US-281N location in San Antonio. I went to the location yesterday (Saturday May 6, 2023) to check on my unit because someone had previously tried to cut the lock off it to gain access.

On the visit in which I noticed the attempted break in, I went to the office at the location to speak with the employee about the incident, see if they might have had video from the security cameras, and to purchase another lock. She apologized for the incident and stated they only keep about 7 days of security camera footage and told me for my unit, there isn’t security camera footage. My unit is climate controlled so it is inside of a building that has a keypad entry. While at the office, I noticed the main gate to the facility wide opened. I asked the employee about it and she stated that she “likes” to leave the gate open to the facility while she is working. I purchased a second lock, returned to my unit to check on my belongings and added the second lock when I left.

When I visited the location yesterday (May 6, 2023) I found the gate wide open again. I went to the office but this time the office was closed (it was after 5:00 pm on a Saturday). I called the “Emergency” phone number, [protected], and waited 15 minutes for a representative (Ralph) to take my call. Ralph apologized for the “inconvenience” and tried several times to close the gate remotely without success. He asked me to tug on the gate and he tried again…no luck. After being on the phone for 36 minutes, the call was either dropped or Ralph hung up on me. I called the “Emergency” number back and waited another 15 minutes, this time getting another representative. I explained the situation to him and he, like Ralph, apologized for the “inconvenience,” and stated there was a note on the account for my previous call. I told him about my experience with the previous break-in attempt of my locker and told him I needed to speak to a manager. He acknowledged and said my complaint would be elevated to the area manager and that I could expect a callback in 24-48 hours. Meanwhile, the main gate remained opened and I witnessed a Chevy truck, towing a trailer, roll right through the gate and into the property. I took a picture of the truck, its license plate number, and the driver as they went by. I then followed them to make sure they weren’t going to my building and while doing so, noticed another customer at their external unit. I asked them if they had experienced any break-in attempts at their unit and they said they had two attempts in the last month.

To top all of this off, I received notice from Life Storage that my rent will be increasing on June 1, 2023 in the amount of $40.00. I’ve only been there 6 months, had at least on break-in attempt, purchased an additional lock from them, and received less than acceptable customer service from the employee at the office and their staff at the “Emergency” number. Needless to say, I’m not going to pay them one more cent. I will have all of my belongings out of my unit by June 1st.

Desired outcome: Moving my belongings out. They lost me as a customer.

Life Storage Unprofessional and extremely rude store manager

I have been a customer there for at least 2.5 years. Store manager there : Christine Brown

Incident on April 30th, at 9:20pm me and my husband drove up to the gates of this storage facility, we wanted to drop off to our storage unit few things. Punched in the code, it said "access denied, we thought we maybe we accidentally punched in wrong number so just in case punched in the code aigan, still said access denied. We looked for signs on the gate and found one where it said" working hours 9:30am to 9:00pm", we saw that we came 20 minutes late( last year it worked untill 11pm)but since we visit this place seldom we didn't know. We drove away and decided to come back the next day.

On April 1st at 7:30pm we came back to drop off things to our unit, there was an envelope with a letter from the store manager stating that on April 30th me and my husband accessed the storage property without the gate code then tried to leave the facility to get out triggering multiple alarms! What? Moreover manager stated we could be charged by their security company for triggering alarm afterhours. And if we don't resolve this matter our unit agreement will be terminated.

This morning I called their office, store manager Christine Brown answered the call, when I explained the matter and questioned her about this letter. There was no adequate response, from her, she only said it's our fault that we drove up to the gate and entered the code and that we shouldnt have done this because we should have known the rules. She was rude, unpolite, impatient. I tried to explain to her that the letter she wrote us was stating completely different message "as if we commited crime" that we never entered the facility, nor came in without the code, that we have a dashcam video proof in my car that we drove away never entering the gates, we never opened the gates.

When I saw that this manager was not willing to resolve the situation I asked to speak to a corporate manager of life storage company or anyone above her, she replied that there's no one else higher than her and she is the only one!? I said if this does not resolve I will have to file the case with my lawer and take this company to court for false accusations. False accusationions, complete ignorance, rude and threads with financial charges is a very serious matter..

Desired outcome: At least an apology which I never heard from this manager. Resolve this issue so we are not charged for what we have never committed.

Life Storage Rented storage unit 1006 at belmount street brooklyn 12-12-22 breached from crawl space from top without protective wire.!!!

On Dec 12th 2022 I rented a storage unit from Employee Caceem Hood who stated the unit was safe to rent from unit 1006 on the First Floor, along with my son n Daughter moved in the next Day went back with wife but unit was hard to open when I was able to get in all my stuff was in a pile ransacked we went to caceem Hood and explained our plight n out of his mouth was you left you unit unattended then came back I stated now why would I do that when I have a bigger unit 1072 for 3yrs without incident we made our police report and to our dismay Caceem Hood stated in his report we told him we left it unattended after the police investigation I used the Ladder to access the Top to take pictures then asked him did my unit have the protective wire and he said yes I then showed him my pictures he couldn't say anything. We would like to have him involved in a investigation due to his Rude attitude and Dismissive behavior in our distress and being Deceitful he wouldn't provide us with infomation to Headquarters to address our situation HE isn't a Trustworthy Employee...!

Desired outcome: Seeing him replaced with someone Trusting and not Dismissive in attitudes..!!!!

I don't believe this unit was ransacked - who stores their items in just bags.. some of these items look to hold no value.. It looks like the items were just dumped in there to begin with.

Life Storage Rude employee

On 3/6/2023 at approximately 5:50 pm I was at my storage unit in Lakeland, Florida on US HWY 98 and I was at the unit that I rent waiting on my husband to get there so he can put his bike in the garage and hop in the car with me. As he approached the gate, he told me to push the exit button since I was on foot at the time I had walked to meet him at the entrance with my 3-year-old. The sensor does NOT detect the weight of my husband's bike so he normally manually pushes it to get out. I let him in and I walk back to my unit along with my daughter. Minutes later we see an employee who claimed to be a manager by the name of Leo approach us and he tells me that he saw me through the camera tampering with the exit button and if he sees me doing it again that he will kick me out. If we look up the definition of tampering, it means trying to break something which I was not, I pressed the button to open the gate. Leo and my husband had an exchange of words based on the fact that he was not professional and he was accusing me of committing a crime which was tampering. I have been in this unit for about two years and never had any issues. In Florida, there are storage units EVERYWHERE and I refuse to pay this establishment any more money after today. Mind you, there us no signs stating not to use the button all he said was that it is in the contract. Furthermore, he stated that he was going to lock where the button is which is an emergency button and if someone gets locked in there I am unsure how they would get out.

Desired outcome: An apology from LEO and the company. Better training on customer service.

Life storage-1675 Starkey Road,Largo,Fla. I just had horrible experience. Dennis,,is very nasty,rude, unprofessional. Cursing and falsely accusing me things that are not true. It's because I'm black. There were white customers in storage area. He treated and greeted them with a good attitude. I recently lost my mother. I looking for very important papers. I desperately need. I took a seat in my recliner. I couldn't find what looking for because of Dennis nasty disposition, he was carrying on something terrible. All this money I pay. And to treated like a criminal. I reported to the office.😩😠

Life Storage Policy

I live in New York. I have a lifelong friend renting storage in the Covington, Wa. store. Covington store / area managers are greedy and heartless. I stepped up to pay my friends bill over multiple months while she is recovering from financial hardship. The life storage store / area managers here in New York had no problem with the idea of waiving the $115 lien fee in return for full payment. Not so in the Covington, Wa. store. Like I said, ...Covington, Wa. store management is greedy / heartless.

Desired outcome: It would be nice, if my card was credited the $115 charge.

Life Storage Moving - no access to 45 clinton location during business hours. Unacceptable

I went to 45 clinton ave brooklyn location at 3:45 pm, with a vehicle packed with things I need to move into my storage unit 2140. All the rolling gates were down - with no access to the facility and no note. This is a massive inconvenience because im moving out of my apartment with an international flight to catch.

Someone was outside also wanting to get into storage - since the morning - said nobody showed up to work today.. No note or anything.

Im very upset because its a huge stress, moving is not easy, I had to pay for parking for my vehicle in a garage so all my things are safe.

I should be able to access this location during office hours. I need compensation for the huge stress and inconvenience this is putting me through - and now I need to get help to move tomrw - all over again - assuming it will finally be open as it should.

I called the location many. Times, left messages, called headquarters and also wrote the chat - nobody answered, nobody has been helpful.

Its crucial I get in tomrw before my flight this is totally unacceptable - and extremely stressful. I will be writing a scathing review if I am not helped. There was zero access to the facility and nobody answering phones and nobody calling me back on the headquarter number. This is unnacceptable.

Life Storage Being in the facility after 10 p.m.

Okay so I am a Native American man and my wife is full blooded Palestinian woman and we were inside our unit after 10 pm on 2 occasions. One of which we were given a written and verbal warning over the phone and told it it happened again We would be kicked off the property by being evicted! When I spoke to a white gentleman who is a 5 year tenant of life storage he stated that he's on property after 10 pm "all the time! And no one says a word to me about it!"

The 2nd time that I went into my unit after 10 pm... it was because my wife couldn't locate the cylindrical lockfor our locker. Therfore, I took it from the car, ran inside the unit as fast as I could, locked 🔒 the locker, and then I ran a fast ad I could back out of the unit through the front gate which was 100% unsecured and wide open so as to say "come on in!"

Oh yeah we're only allowed in our unit to try to move our stuff out during business hours when management is there and while I'm required to be at work like most everyone else in the world. So this restriction is making it impossible to move our stuff if it comes down to that?

So I ran in and ran out as quickly as I could do so! But then the next day when I came in and tried my code? It did not work and I had to go into the office to find out that my wife and I are being evicted! And this after we've been evicted from our home due to covid-19 and all the complications from its devastating effects on our lives, our business, and our home! We have no more money to spend on moving expenses or a new storage facility! But this lady working in the office did not seem to car one bit about the nightmare our family has been through. Because I was in the unit for literal seconds after 10 pm and because I was there after 10 pm while I was moving our stuff in and just plain lost track of time (again the gate was wide open then as well ) this fact made me think I still had time since they had not secured the facility!I'm not sure if it's because my wife and I are both people of color? But it definitely seems like white people are getting preferential treatment from what I've gathered from speaking to other tenants and how we've been treated as people of color...I never bring this up in my interactions with others and so forth. That is unless it's blatantly undeniable such as this instance!

Desired outcome: The resolution I would like to see take place is for us to be given another chance to operate within the rules.Either that or be given a refund of the administration fees we paid to help us pay to get in somewhere else.

Life Storage Refund on storage unit that was canceled

I paid for 2 10x30 units on August 30, 2022, for the rental dates of September 1-30th 2022. I was told by my hired movers to cancel one unit due only one unit was needed. On September 1, 2022 I spoke with the person in charge (in person) at the storage unit and informed him of the cancellation, he canceled the unit and stated it would be 7-10 days for a refund. I spoke with the same person on September 2, 2022 to get some type of confirmation number to the cancellation of the unit and was told that I didn’t need any cancellation confirmation.. I spoke with my banking manager and was told “IF” they (life storage) actually processed the refund, it would only take up to 3 days to show back into my account.. well Life Storage has NOT REFUNDED MY FUNDS. Also I explained to them that the unit I was renting I only needed it for 2 weeks, and I’m hoping to get refunded for the weeks in not using a unit. I will be moving my belongings out of the unit on September 10, 2022 and I’m praying that I receive pro-rated rates on the storage that was not used

Desired outcome: Wanting my refund for $469.98 for cancellation of unit 1 and wanting partial refund for unused unit from September 11, 2022-September 30,2022

A similar situation occurred with me. I purchased the "1 FREE Month Special" in April. I paid a prorated amount for the the days in April and a lock -- my Next Payment Date was 5/29. On 5/29 Life Storage DEDUCTED the FULL Lease Agreement amount from my Credit Card. On 5/31, I cleared out my unit, went to the front Office to confirm that my unit was left clear and clean. The staff employee confirmed my unit was clean and clear, and terminated my lease agreement. My understanding (from BOTH the verbiage in my Lease Agreement and the staff employee) was that I would be charged for the 2 days that I occupied the unit, but that I would receive a refund for the remaining 28 days. I have left OVER 10 messages at the Corporate [protected] Customer Service Number. Life Storage has neither returned ANY of my phone message, or refunded the prorated 28 days. The staff is OUTSTANDING; however Life Storage's CORPORATE Customer Service is UNRESPONSIVE - BOTH in the RETURN of Phone Calls, and in the ISSANCE of Prorated Refunds.
