I flew in on an International flight from Hong Kong at 5:45 AM and waited in line with mostly Chinese Nationals through immigration. I'm an American citizen. This women who looked like she was wearing her pajamas with a pink dress (I think) was the immigration officer I believe while I was waiting to provide my passport and documentation to re-enter, retrieve my checked back at JFK, get to my car and drive home. This (whatever she was), allowed a bunch of disreputable individuals ahead of me, a whole group of foreign nationals, clearly intentionally. I said something to her. She responded that "normally, I would detain you for at least 1/2 an hour before allowing you to proceed," and couldn't help but reply, "that's crazy," I've never experienced such a thing before. She replied, "my husband thinks I'm crazy too" and something else. I made eye contact with one of the agents, and I got through immigration. I shouldn't even be posting this, I tried to find a complaint section at the JFK customs website, but there really isn't one. JFK is notorious for a reason I suppose, and I'm going to do my best in the future to avoid it.
I don't know what kind of "supervision" goes on at these extremely sensitive check points, but that was a very disturbing experience to me. I'm no criminal. What is going on however is criminal, and clearly my civil rights were violated. Low lives shouldn't be manning our customs/immigration areas and there should be mandatory aptitude and intelligence testing to assure that US citizens are treated respectfully and with dignity. That was disgusting, and so are too many of the employees at JFK who should have no level of authority over anything more than the bathroom cleaning.
