My 92 y/o father got a flyer saying free installation and two months reduced cost of Hughsnet TV. The installer came out and installed their system in January and it did not work. He told my Dad that it was not working but should start working in a while. It never did. My dad has called and I finally called on April 22 only to be told that dad has not had a Hughesnet account for several years. I thought it must be a scam deal and contacted Discover card to have the charges challenged. Discover got back to us after 3 weeks and said the charges were indeed valid. I again contacted Hughsnet and now they said that he does have an account and that the charges are valid and in addition there is a $300 early cancellation fee and a $200 cancellation fee for the VOI component which my Dad knows nothing about. They said they had no record of my call in April on the 22. So to get a system cancelled that has never worked, is going to cost my dad $500 plus the approximate $500 that he has already paid in monthly fees and for the "free" installation. What a horrible business! We called DISH and he now has a functioning system install in 2 days and working beautifully! Do not use Hugesnet! All of the one star reviews are true!
Claimed loss: $~1000.00
Desired outcome: Refund all monies for system that never worked.
