I have spent approximately one month and 10–12 hours of my own time attempting to resolve a straightforward billing overcharge with Google One. Across six representatives, I received repeated assurances, multiple case numbers, and four separate "wait 24 hours" responses but no correction. When my subscription lapsed, I was locked out of Google's support channels entirely and had to repurchase a plan simply to reach a live agent, who then told me to wait another day. Meanwhile, approximately 2TB of my personal data and my email access have been placed at risk.

The core billing discrepancy

I enrolled in a Google One promotional offer (Google AI Ultra, 30TB, 50% off for three months). Throughout the promotional period, my Google One account page consistently displayed $99.99/month as my current plan the price I agreed to and relied upon.

Despite this, I was charged $124.99/month.

This figure matched no price I was ever shown until I located an email from Google dated May 26, 2026, which stated the plan price was $249.99/month, decreasing to $199.99 on July 10. Fifty percent of $249.99 is exactly $124.99.

In other words, Google applied my 50% promotional discount to a $249.99 base price that was never displayed to me, while my account showed $99.99. When I raised this arithmetic directly with a representative, she was unable to reconcile it and escalated the question. It was never answered.

Chronological account

Approximately one month ago: Representative "Bernard" assured me the billing issue was resolved. It was not.

June 10, 2026: I was charged $124.99 again despite that assurance.

Representative "Sofia": Confirmed in writing that I had redeemed "the 50% Google AI Ultra for 3 months." When I asked whether 50% off $199.99 equals $124.99, she could not reconcile it and said she would raise it with "higher teams." No answer followed.

Representative "Kay": Unable to help; told me to wait 24 hours.

Representative "Bhumija": Again told me to wait 24 hours then telephoned me at 2:50 AM, waking me. I asked for follow-up at 8:00 AM or by email. None came that day.

Representative "Ashif": Approximately one hour on the phone; I again provided screenshots showing $99.99/month as my current plan. Issued yet another case ID and a customer satisfaction survey invitation, but no resolution.

A manager telephoned me not to resolve the matter, but to ask that I stop opening additional support tickets.

Representatives "Sofia" and "Mariah" each separately wrote to say they were handling my case, with no single representative clearly owning it.

Sofia's final written update stated the investigation was ongoing with "no specific timeframe" for resolution after four prior promises of 24-hour turnaround.

Escalation: loss of support access and data risk
Because the overcharge was never corrected and I could not justify the increased price, my subscription lapsed. At that point:

I was blocked from Google's online chat support, and live phone support became unavailable to me.

To reach a live agent at all, I was required to repurchase a plan. I effectively had to pay Google in order to speak to someone about Google's own billing error.

The agent I finally reached ("Abby") told me to wait another day for a response.

My account, holding approximately 2TB of personal data photos, files, and email entered an over-limit status, placing my data and my email address at risk.

Attempted bank dispute
Earlier in this process, I initiated a chargeback with my bank. I canceled it upon learning that a chargeback could result in Google freezing my entire account, including my email and files.

This is the core of the problem: because Google controls essential personal data tied to the same account, I had no safe means of disputing an improper charge. The recent data-access risk has reinforced that concern directly.

Actions taken

Filed a formal complaint with the Michigan Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division, supplemented with all documentation.
Preparing a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission.
Preserving my data via Google Takeout.

Documentation available

Record of the $124.99 charge

Google's email dated May 26, 2026 establishing the $249.99 base price
Full chat transcripts, including the written acknowledgment of the promotional offer

Resolution requested
A full refund of all amounts paid during the promotional period, or alternatively a credit toward continued Google AI Ultra service at the $99.99/month rate displayed on my account, for a duration equal to that credit, with the rate and term confirmed in writing.
