53 just bought out Comerica where I have banked for years. Their posted nonsense prior to the transfer boasted how old Comerica customers didn't have to do a thing, everything remains the same, blah blah. As directed, I got on the 53 website, new user name, new password, everything went normal. Takeover completed the day after Labor Day, no issues. Two days later (Wednesday evening) I see something I had previously authorized come in, overdrawing my checking acount by $6 (my fault). I immediately Zelle $80 to get me thru until payday (Thursday) into the 53 account. In the past the Zelle money hits my account within minutes. Next morning (Thursday), still overdrawn by a few dollars, the Zelle transfer shows up as "pending". I go to the local 53 branch, try to deposit my paycheck (from a major bank) and ask for money back, they refuse because I am overdrawn. You have to have equal funds in your account before the deposit is credited. That never happened with Comerica, they always made at least some cash back available. They can't explain why the Zelle money is in limbo. I deposit the check, the manager tells me the money will be available Friday. Friday I'm still overdrawn so I call the 800 number - They tell me they put an eight day hold on my paycheck which is over $5K, won't make any of the funds available until then; won't call the other bank to verify funds, won't transfer me to anyone with the authority to help me. Basically they are going to sit on my money for over a week while I try to explain to the landlord and utilities why I will be late paying them. I have automatic deposits from a retirement account that goes to this account, as soon as this check clears and I can get those automatic deposits redirected, I am closing this account. "nothing will change once we take over, they said". "We won't put a hold on this check, they said". When I called the main number, all I got was "they shouldn't have told you that" and "there is nothing anyone can do". What a load of you know what.
Recommendation: Don't bank here. If you have a problem, there is no one at the local branch or the 800 number with the authority to asisist.
