Fairfield Inn and Suites review: smoking fee

We sat outside drinking beer and smoking cigarettes around the firepit with relatives we were in town to visit. None of us saw any ashtrays, poles or garbage cans in the area of the firepit. We used our empty beer cans as ashtrays, and at the end of the night, loaded the empty cans back into the cooler. We thought we were being respectful by not leaving our trash there. In the morning, I emptied the empty cans into the garbage can in the room, filled the cooler with fresh ice and drinks and checked out. Upon seeing the email concerning this charge, we immediately responded. They were not interested in hearing any sort of explanation or denials. They proceeded to charge our credit card $596.00 over the next 3 days. This ultimately put a hold on the funds, which impacted the remainder of our vacation. There were refunds given on all the charges other than the smoking fee. When speaking with management, I asked them to review the security tapes to see what I told them is the truth. I was informed there would be no refund on the smoking fee, there decision would stand. I see several other similar cases online, so it seems to be an ongoing problem with this chain.
