Dollar General rude inept management

The acting store manager is rude, verbally abusive to customers. She has no experience at making schedules. Her cashiers regularly have to stay past their scheduled hours because she refuses to work register and wont count down a cashiers drawer until they are already late leaving. The store looks terrible cuz she wont stock freight. Prices are wrong all throughout tje store because she doesnt do price changes. Planograms are way behind.

I WAS A CASHIER IN A BUSY STORE.
TERMINATION ON FRIDAY 5/29
PER MANAGER DRAWER SHORT 20.08

EVENTS LEADING UP TO TERMINATION.
Assst. Manager Randall Mcgee...
Harassment and abuse of his authority to intimidate employees
Demeaning to personnel in from of customers.
Manager Cindy always sided with Randall.

I never missed a day, or late, I filled when others called out & even went to other stores
I had excellent customer relations.

5/23 Manager Cindy told me to remove Easter items from shelves and move to front
Randall he had just done that shelve; I advised him I was doing what Cindy told me to do.
At that point with customers by, He told me I had an attitude, I differed his opinion
And he said could not work with someone like me... I walked away
I knew then, that it was only a matter of time before my job would end.

4/19 critized my recovery at closing time.
I was setting down at 10.25… told me if I could not see what was wrong, he was not going to show me.

I spoke with another asst. manager Caroline about him, was told need to go to Cindy
I didn’t...
4/28 I was told Thursday my drawer was over 17.36
I could not explain at the time, just that it’s so busy and no extra help or relieve
4/28 I was told my drawer was over again 6.22
Also told could not break in afternoon... (This rule didn’t seem to apply to others)
Advised my purse had to be in back of store (another rule that was not applies to others)
4/29 Friday. I arrived at store I was told that I would do stock
I was happy... Cindy & Randall were on registers.
After lunch break I was given a drawer.
I advised Cindy after several transactions something was not right that he kept telling me cash pickup... told don’t worry about it.
4/30 arrived at work went to Cindy, and was told my Drawer was 20.08 short.
I told her that it was impossible...
I spoke of my disagreement with Randall.
Another employee was also fired for the same thing in March. Always $20 short.
And its there word again employee

During all this no schedule was posted for the next week. My termationation was planned
My drawer was shorted after I exit.

Dollar General begging customers for their change.

I advise everyone in the Decatur area that shop @ any Dollar General to say "NO" when the employees or managers ask for you to donate to Literacy. For over 2 years they have not proved that the money stays local or that any schools here in Decatur recieved anything new. They have yelled at me on a daily basis and threatened to write me up if my container was not full. The money has to be pocketed for this to be that serious over other peoples money. Its a donation which means if the customer wants to donate. Something needs to be done about this. Dollar General has not donated to ST. JUDE or AUTISM as long as Literacy.

I know for a fact that Dollar General gives the money collectes to Literacy programs . They just have to apply for a grant. The Literacy program in my town recieved a $5000 grant. You need to be sure of your fact before you slander a very good program such as this. Shame on you!

Dollar General - treatment of employees

As a customer or should I say former customer of Dollar General, I can say it is the worst place I have ever seen as far a treatment of employees goes. I know for a fact the DM walked in and fired the Manager on A Saturday morning the first of Feb. 2011, and had the audacity to make one of the Assisstant Mangers work on her days off. The 2 Assisstant...

Dollar General conway somoene was stealing

I was shopping in conway the dollar general close to 501 business I had my grandson and my daughter with me a man was shop lifting in there. My complaint is the manager and a worker or maybe another manager not sure they approached the man and demanded what he stole I was right there and so was my grandson the man was stealing laundry soap and maybe other things none the less my complaint is I cannot believe that they put me and and my family not to mention everyone else in the store at risk of maybe getting shot or knifed all over a 5 dollar bottle of Gain. I am appauled byt this I have always been taught anywhere I have worked to never approach a shop lifter I am the man dropped it and ran out but he could have had a gun a knife or been violent. and that to me is not the proper way to handle the situation. I confronted them about it in ohter words my life my grandson and my daughters life and anyone else in the store life is worth alot more then a bottle of gain I think that they handle it carelessly and inapproapriate LEt the man have the soap times are hard he must have needed it and surely more then Dollar General needs it. TICKED OFF about this craiziness I cannot believe this anywhere i have ever worked or been NO ONE CONFRONTS A SHOP LIFTER I could think of ways it could have been handled far better then this no 5 dollar thing is worth anyones life or risk of being hurt. obviously the man was trying to get it for his family and probally did not have the money who knows I say let him have the soap and let God deal with it times are tough but not worth a possible life for a 5 dollars bottle of laundry soap

You have really never worked at a place that had a 'no shoplifting' policy?!? How can expect a business to profit if they allow their products to be stolen? You, are an idiot. We live in the real world and experiences are not always pleasant... if you have grandkids you should know that by now! You happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and saw something that offended your naive little eyes, I see absolutely no fault of the cashier or store. She was protecting their assets, that's what she was hired to do!

I walked into dollar general to return the coffee pot I had bought a week ago because it broke. Lady said she couldnt return it because I did not have the receipt. Well, I never got one! She was soo freakin rude, and I even had the box and everything. They are obviously picking winners when they hire.

You can't return merchandise without a receipt, but you could have exchanged it for something of equal or more value. Also, if there was nothing you wanted to exchange it for you could have been given "store credit" via a gift card.

There is a policy on how to except return and the employees are following the Store policy and the mangers rules. The employees also get treated unfairly by DG and customer for min wages. Alot of the times the mangers dont do their job or make their asst. look like jerk by telling them to do things and then tell other employees lies about situation. So as Far as hiring ### whom ever made that comment should understand that they are people just trying to keep their jobs.

Why didn't you ask for a receipt when you made the purchase if there was a chance you may return it? They need a receipt to prove that you paid for it.

"they are obviously picking winners when they hire." Also, being unkind will not really get you anywhere.

Dollar General not accepting coupons and rude

Clearly states on their website they accept coupons (including, but not limited to, newspapers, magazines, print-at-home (internet), direct mail, product packaging, and in-store coupon boxes). I was told while shopping that would not accept coupons printed from a home computer. I put those coupons up and was just going to use ones I cut from newspapers and my home printed DG coupons (which I was told was okay to use) . 7 out of 9 of my coupons would not be accepted at checkout and these were ones cut from paper and Dollar General coupons - ALL LEGIT. After cashier tried many times, the manager was called. I was given many, many excuses and even told that it would not take my coupons because it took the DG $5 off $25. That has absolutely nothing to do with my personal coupons. Coupons are like money. The store gets the money for the coupons plus a handling fee for coupons. After I went through much humiliation, I told them to just put the stuff back that I had coupons for. My original receipt was $34. When cashier rang it up second time, I owed 29.49. I returned $6 paper towels, $4 Pledge, $3 Windex and $3 lotion. I knew this was not correct and tried to tell cashier something was wrong, but was told that was what it came to. I told them to forget it, I would go outside and check it. It was obvious they were not listening to anyting I was saying. I was truly not treated like a customer, but more like someone trying to get something over on them or something. I went back to manager to show him I was still charged for some of the things I did not get. He kept beating around still talking about the coupons. He finally gave in and gave me back $7.45 - and this was after him telling one of the cashiers that they needed to go back and get the items because "she wants her money back for the Pledge and Windex." It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the amt was wrong and they still acted as if I was wrong. Sorry Dollar General, but you just lost a BIG CUSTOMER and all my friends also.

Dollar General discrimination, accused, and threatened

We usually go to this store because it is the nearest to our home. On saturday, march 26, around 3:00 pm my friend"s brother (Who attends to college) my friend and I (Which we're freshmens) were defetly mistreated on this store. We entered looking for some birthday products we needed, however since her brother is a guy and gets bored really easyly, he began looking and trying to see what were the cellphones plans. He first got asked if he needed help but he said "no" to this employer (Unfortunatly we don't know his name). Later this same person demanded him to leave the store or he was going to call the police. Oviously we were all confused and began asking why. Suppously the employer implied that her brother was trying to steal but he wasn't. We then told him that this wasn't true and we were showing him her brother's college id, state id, driver's license id, and credit card in order to make him see that this was a mistake. However, the man didn't cared to see and started demanding now everyone of us to leave (Her brother, my friend and myself) to leave the store. We were treated with discrimination, because of our apperance (We went all messy and kind of dirty to the store). We were acused, and threatened as well. We felt horrible. We can't belive there are this type of ignorant people in life. We obiously left the store without purchasing anything. We decide to go better to another store which treated us kindly and nicely (Family dolllar). We planned to call the customer service of that company (Dollar general) to give our complains but we don't know their number. They made us feel like trash, like if we were nothing, but badly for that person who mistreated us, we are going to be someone in life. We will finish our careers and we will never let money change us into this type of people. We will keep being honest, generous, and humble. We all hope this employer will realize how badly he made feel the store's custumers (Us). Also, we want for the company to do something about it. Probably talk to him or something else, but we want justice. People should be treated equally and with respect just like it is said / written in the constitution of the united states of america. Thanks for having the time to read our complain. We hope something gets done. Thank you.

Dollar General no breaks for working sometimes open to close and more than 8 hours

I am a former employee for this company and while working there just over 2 years, I can count on the both hands the number of lunch breaks I was able to take. I started there as a 3rd Key holder and worked up to assistant manager. I started working for them in Vestal, New York. Worked in a few location there, before relocating to Cleveland, Ohio, where I transfered to. In all locations, I either did not get to take any kind of break, or was told, if you have to do something, punch back in, take care of the problem, and punch back out. From what I know of the federal law, it states, at least a 30 minute UNINTERRUPTED break. I even sometimes worked open to close shifts, because none of the other Managers would come in to let me leave or to take a break even. I would like to know if there is a lawyer that would take this on as a case, because I know it is still happening within this company. Is there a lawyer or does anyone know of a lawyer? I have copies of most of my scheduals from the Ohio store for proof of hours worked for the 7 months I worked there before leaving.

Dollar General customer service

Hibe priorly had problems at this particular store and there was one lady who acted and voiced that I was a thief. Which by the was I am not and was not at that time and haven't been for years. Which is why it aggravated me so. Anyway I tried to speak with another lady about it and was rude and would nou hear me out and almost a year later at the same store I was shopping only to hear yelling about thats why they have carts and don't do it again so I figured it was an associate yelling at another associate and when I said it's not polite to yell in front of customers I was all the way at the back of the store btw she said she wasn't she was yelling at her and pointed at another customer! And for what? Placing the items on the counter to purchase them and at the last minute ran to get a candy bar! I couldn't believe it so I voiced that that is no way to treat a customer to insure they come back. The woman says you've said that before and here you are and I looked and it was the same two women as last year! What do I do

Mine is NOT a complaint about a Dollar General Store. It is about the District Manager for Livonia, Michigan. He is an arrogant, nasty, little man who really does has a little man complex. No matter what day or time of day I may shop at Store No. 08139 this 'little man' seems to be there. He Directs/Demands the staff (which is absurdly small - 2 at the most at any time) to move stock, re-arrange while customers are in the store. I have never seen him step in to help just criticize and as stated Direct. When I held a manager's position, it was not to direct, but to address issues and lend a helping hand. This guy really needs to go. As well as this store desperately needs to be allowed to hire additional staff. The staff now is wonderful but very overworked and I can imagine they are only being paid minimum wage for their efforts.

Dollar General excused me of using fake coupons

I demand an apology. I emailed dollar general directly about how I was treated by the staff and management on friday, march 4, 2011 and recieved a confirmation of receipt at 7:47am stating that if my email required a reply they would be contacting me shortly. Well shortly is not 5 days later and still no reponse.
The staff and management of store #[protected] cave mill road - bowling green, ky) was rude and had absolutely no knowledge of their own website. I have been receiving coupons via email for well over a year from dollar general however when I tried to use these particular weeks coupons they failed to scan the first time. So the young lady informed me and all the other patrons that I had given her "fake" coupons and she was not going to except them. When I tried to tell her that I had printed them off of thier website that they emailed to me, she insisted that I was lying so I immediately asked for management. Of course she doesn't even come out of her office just again agrees that they must be fake. I demanded that she come to the front and while she still insisted that I was lying the coupons scanned. I was never offered an apology for their insinuations. I have spoken with several friends and even one gentleman that witnessed this embarassing moment... They weren't surprised which can only mean that this is a daily occurance. If your not going to back up your customer service values then continue to hire and train disrespectful employees.
Fyi: the store is filthy too.

Dollar General sharp plastic shavings in the cereal

I purchased a large box of Clover Valley Bite Size Frosted Mini Wheats Cereal on Feb. 21, 2011 at Store 00366. On February 23, 2011 around 6:30 am, I poured my 1st bowl of cereal from that box. As I was about to take my 1st bite, I noticed something green swimming around in my spoon, just before it entered my mouth. I looked through the bowl of freshly poured cereal and noticed a lot of sharp, green, plastic shavings floating in my bowl. I trashed the uneaten cereal and am returning the box of cereal to the retailer today. I hope noone has eaten those particles from other prepackaged cereal productes. I am glad that I was the first one to attempt to eat from that box instead of my small children. I am thoroughly disgusted by this experience and do not plan to purchase food products from Clover Valley in the future. I will do my grocery shopping from a grocery store from now on. Fuel prices are outrageous and my time is valuable. Therefore, I do NOT like to make extra trips to make returns. I plan to contact the FDA regarding my experience so they can monitor this situation.

Dollar General poor service

Every time I go in and get ready to check out there is no one at the counter. I have to wait for at least 5 minutes for someone to come up. Today there was myself and two other customers in line and when I finally said hello, here she comes with an attitude and a ipod in her ear. What is that? Then she just pushes the money in my hand and on to the next customer. What happen to "thank you have a nice day"? This is an everyday thing.

Interesting customer "service" I encountered today. I'm a retail manager by trade and have managed a small box store in the past. This company hands down has got to be the worst in the industy. For example, on 4/21 I went in to purchase some weed killer. I had never ventured into this establishment before and thought, "why not". I found a few interesting things while perusing for my purchase. One, there's clutter all over the place making weaving through the small aisles next to impossible at times (and it wasn't even busy). Two, their freight door was wide open in the back and no person "manning" the door (what, free for all?). Three, I could not find what I was looking for so I asked the only person with a yellow Dollar General shirt for assistance. "Excuse me, do you carry weed killer." The response..."I'm not sure that we do." Huh? Some acceptable responses might have been, "no, sorry we don't have those products, but we do have..." or "I'll be with you in a minute to help you"...or "I'll get someone to help." I felt like I did not matter to them (what's that also say about their "Management"). See ya, Dollar General, you could have gained a lifelong customer, oh well, you probably think, so what, we are too big to fail and let one lost customer get in the way...I say...GUESS AGAIN! I will let other people know how you operate. Actually, I should be thanking Dollar General, this experience reinforces the fact that the great customer service my store provides is kinda tough to come by these days!

I work in a department store. I understand your position, as a customer, but try to see it from the other side. I cannot tell you how many times I have gotten attitude from customers, who think I am not doing my job because I am not standing behind the register like some mannequin. My store doesn't have a bell to ring, but most dollar stores I've been in do. This is for a reason. Ring the bell. The associate likely has no idea you are even standing there, because they are 50 feet away behind a shelf, WORKING! She shouldn't have pushed money into your hand, but these people are very stressed so if she failed to say "Have a Nice Day" get over it.

seriously. maybe the employee was new? maybe it was their first day and they werent completely familiar with the store yet. And weed killer is a seasonal item which means that the stores do not have a 'home' location for the product, things are always moving and for someone new it can be difficult to find things. I would say that this employee could have found someone else to ask, but in a store like dollar general often times there are only one or two employees in the store at any given time, which means that everyone is extremely busy. its not right, and i think that the company should give the stores more hours to keep the days better staffed, but thats the way it is and it isnt the employees fault. pull the stick out of your butt

Dollar General fired

My name is Chris Wittkamp. First off, I thought that you needed to have three write ups to get fired, but the district manager fired me with technically only one write up (I have yet to see the second). So now they will not listen to me at all. I asked constantly to be transfered or to get more hours, and they kept refusing me. Also call the old manager of the Delphos store, Catherine, about how the new manager got her job since it goes around corporate policy. I was told in secrecy by the new manager about that.

first off it depends on the nature of the offense. a lot of things are a one time offense termination. money shortages, harassment, threatening harm to person or property, etc.

Dollar General out-of-date products

Appr. 2 mos. ago I purchased my usual Clover Valley Diet Colas. When I opened the first one I noticed it was very flat-tasting. I looked at the expiration date and was horrified to see that it had expired in 2010!
Again this past Friday I purchased another case of the same diet colas. I didn't think to look at the date becasuse I was in a hurry. AGAIN I was disappointed. The expiration date was MAY, 2010!
Needless to say, I won't buy any more. I could not take them back since I don't have a car. I wasn't wasting anyone elses time and gas/

Dollar General rude associate

To whom this may concern my name is tasha jones and on 1/25/11 I went into the dollar general in lynn haven fla. Store
07141. Im alway sat this location and mind you I spend a lot of money in this store. Im a single parent so it helps me out alot with the location of the store, well after I gathered all of my groceries the young cashire advised me that his ebt machine had stopped working, so he ask me to to go to the next cashier which was an older gentlmen, so he rung up the lady that was behind me to make sure his ebt machine worked and it did, so I proceeded to put my groceries on the table to be rung up, he rudely told me that I would have to wait and began ringing up all the people that were behind me, he made me stand there for 45min before he rung up my groceries and the only reason I stayed because I needed to get the things that I had for my daughter. This was very unacceptable behavior from the male associate and I am a loyal customer to the dollar general store in lynn haven fla. So I would appreciate a call or somthing from somone in upper mgt or coporate because I know this behavior is not acceptable and I know the company would not tollerate associates being rude to the customers. My name is tasha jones and my contact number is [protected]. Please call me with sme feedback it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a great day

Dollar General poor managment

I have noticed that the manager of the store is never there. It is always the assistant and the third key working. I asked an employee about this one time and the informed me that the manger is supposed to be there 40 hrs a weeks because she gets paid salary, that she puts herself on the schedule and never works those hours in fact there are times when she doesnt come in at all. Doesn't the cooperate office keep track of how many times a manager works a week. I was also informed that the other employees do most the work that she doesnt even do the task assigned to her . The employee that told me this no longer works for dollar general they got tired of the lack of hours given to employees .. Some of them are only getting 10 hours a week how are you supposed to survive on that... I believe this is one poorly ran store . Something needs to be done

On Feb.11 a good friend who had just lost her husband. Also her soul mate. This person from Family Dollar which is also hiring people from Family Dollar, his old stores and is taking care of them like they were his children. Guess what he is now a DM for DOLLAR GENERAL! Is'nt it against the rules to hire from a competor? He has a crew called a smart team which helps out the stores that need help. Someone gives him the authority to pick endvel stores where only his Family D. Who gives this man the right to pick and chose what stores has the help they need without working 70 hrs a week. 70 hrs a week under wc is wrong and this is the way that Family Dollar works not Dollar general

Dollar General too many days off

I've been working at Dollar General for 4 months and since then my hours have changed tremendously so beside this he also decided to give me the whole week off just because I called in sick its not my fault that I sick. When other employees ask for days off he doesn't tell them anything and when I do it he starts giving me this lecture about how I ruin everybodys day by calling in and he would also tell me that he could find someone very easily to fill in my position. I don't think a manager should ever tell that to his employees. I hope some one does something about these complaints because this is outrageous. Something needs to be done about this!

Dollar General cashiers hiding sale items for other customers that called in or co-workers

Thanksgiving morning at approximately 7:02 am I entered into this store and ask the cashier where were the digitial cameras and she told me that she had phone calls the night before and had put all the camera on the side in the warehouse for those call in customers and co-workers. I worked retail before and I know that the workers are not allowed to do that, Okay I was in the line after purchasing cleaning supplies and the ladies came up to the register and ask for their cameras and the other cashier was told to go and get the cameras for them and it was 6 of te cameras. The other customers fussed with the ladies but those cashiers at this store did the same thing last year and I didn't get the camera. The address of this store is 2019 N.Parkerson Ave., Crowley, La.

"I worked retail before and I know that the workers are not allowed to do that" So you have worked every single retail job ever? Because not all stores have the same policies.
