On 26th of April, direct insurance cancelled my policy for non payment. My cancellation date was the 26th which the policy shouldn't have been cancelled until midnight seeing that is still the 26th of April. My son had an accident that afternoon but I didn't find it about the accident until the next day, the 27th. I made my payment and signed a no loss statement based on the fact that I didn't know there was an accident. Later that day on the 27thi called my son because he texted me the words emergency. When I found out I called and made a claim. They are trying to say I misrepresented the no loss statement. I am not a guru or psychic. I signed the form based on my knowledge at the moment. Besides in writing, the cancellation date is the 26th which is a full 24 hours not the 25th at midnight. I have been with direct for over 5 years off and on and it's been a month of hell about getting my son's car fixed. I guess the next step is the insurance commission and arbitration. So sad that you pay so much and get treated with blatant disregard.

Get other quotes from other companies before choosing Direct General. I got a quote for $128+ taxes. They sent me my monthly payments slips for $220.53. So I called and asked why did it go up.They said that when they ran my DMV report that it said I was in two auto accidents and stated someone else name on my insurance.(The other party from the accident. I stated that the person they named was the other party name.) I said yes but I wasn't at fault. They said well send us the police reports.(That was negligent on their behalf for them not to send for it) I went to one of their locations and had them fax it. I called and asked why was my payments still high. They stated I was at fault. Then they said they didn't get all of the police report. I stated facts from one of my police reports that clearly said the other party was at fault. That's when the representative said oh well it just went down to $176. I said why is it still that high. Oh you're still at fault for the other one.Since you say it wasn't your fault go to the Dmv and have them change it. I went to two different DMV's and they both said they didn't see anything when they pulled it up to call Nashville office. I called Nashville and they stated that I shows I was in two car accidents but wasn't at fault and that it had 0 points by each one. And if I was at fault that it would have 1 point by each one. I call Direct back and they say well you was at fault. It says in the report that you hit them.(If someone pulls out in the middle of the road and you're already close of course you're going to hit them.) I said well Nashville said I wasn't at fault. The polices didn't give me a ticket for them the other parties got the tickets. So that made them at fault not me. That there isn't anything in there report that says I was. Direct then said well we say that you were at fault because you hit them. So even if the state says I'm not Direct is going to make it my fault. So please be mindful of who you're doing business with. Do your homework on different auto insurance companies.

My 84 year old mother was contacted by this company to get a warranty on her car. my dad
{her husband} of 62 years passed away in June. The tactics to purchase this is appalling, telling her my dad would want her to have this. Trying to get the 599.00 she gave them back. They first said it was processing and in the mail and that was 2 months ago. I keep calling and usually can't get through due to "high volume of calls". Talked to a mafia sounding man a couple of times he says he will have someone call me back bit of course they never do. This is so not right and my mother is living on social security and cannot afford this.

As in the past I have paid out of pocket for repairs done to replace a windshield and continue to have problems with being paid as when I paid out of pocket for a rental car for the holidays because the assigned adjuster went on vacation without passing my claim to someone else, therefore I was stuck without transportation from Dec. 24, 2013 until Jan of 2014 if I had not paid while out of town. Now I have the same problem after having replace a broken windshield. I have sent everything requested of me by the adjuster Clarice Clark yet she insist I send more of the same thing unable to pay me first it was the receipts showing what I paid then more from the company that did the work they are aggravated with her and so am I

I do not understand??? Any time I have a rental car during a repair from an accident, the renal car company takes care of it.
I have also had windshields replaced and the Insurance company does the approval BEFORE the work is done and they pay directly for that as well.

Beware is right! I have had this policy with them less than a year and they have changed my rates, option plans and services without my consent. I have received 3 different letters in the mail of drastic changes to my policy (Without my consent or knowledge). When I call them they seem to be lost for words. They scramble around trying to figure out why the changes were made and every single time have taken about a week to fix it. Recently, they cancelled my policy even though they were working on fixing an error they caused to the policy payments. Now they are working on reinstating my policy and all you hear is, "oops we're sorry". Really?! How many times can they mess up and not do anything at all to take ownership of their mistakes. They recently told me that I did not show proof of previous insurance (Meanwhile I was insured by them)! I am cancelling this policy and moving on. You may think your getting a lesser rate but the price you pay in the long wrong is not worth it! Be smart and go with a brand that is reputable. Don't repeat our mistakes as you've read below. We warned you! Direct where we'll do wrong by you constantly, should be their true slogan.

My mother just passed away July 31, 2014...and had not only car insurance but life insurance with DIRECT GENERAL...NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY ARE TRYING TO FIND ANY WAY NOT TO COME THROUGH ON THEIR CLAIM MY MOTHER WAS PAYING ON. THIS COMPANY IS VERY STANDOFFISH AND THEY MAKE YOU SPEAK TO PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY... HOW DO YOU HAVE SOMEONE READING MEDICAL RECORDS THAT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MEDICAL RECORDS OR PROPER KNOWLEDGE OF A SITUATION? WHAT HURTS THE MOST IS SHE WAS PAYING FOR THIS CRAP.

This is the worst insurance company ever! I hit a coyote in December
and it took over a month to get it fixed because they were so slow. Then they put everyone in my household on my policy and charged me over $500 for my monthly payment and said I had to pay it and there was no way I could get it back. It took them 2 weeks to add a new vehicle to my policy after I bought it. I had to leave it at the dealership for 2 weeks after I purchased it waiting on their underwriter. These guys make the rules up as they go.
