I really didn't want to write this review but as nothing changes, I feel it is now justified.
Over the recent winter weeks when the weather has been particularly cold, it has been disappointing that nine times out of ten, members have been locked out of the reception area until the official opening time of 06:00am during the week and 07:00am during the weekend. I tend to workout at these times as I like to get my gym work done early in the morning. It does seem to be whoever is on reception as to whether you will be allowed to enter reception and wait for the correct time to access the gym and club. Some staff do let members in and some certainly don't. Straight away, this shows lack of consistency of practice. Members are allowed to gather in the vestibule. This is a small area before reception so it can never accommodate all members waiting to enter so some are automatically left outside the building in the low temperatures and harsh winds.I also work within the NHS and have asked advice on 'best practice'. During flu season, it is probably best that people are not gathered and confined within a small space especially elderly people who can be more susceptible to picking up illnesses. It is so disappointing to hear most people who arrive in the morning stating how disappointed they are as paying members to be locked outside by some members of staff on reception whilst others let members wait inside.
Can I also ask if something cannot be done with the drains in the car park. In 2026, it is not really acceptable that members have to walk either through or around the very large water pools in the car park after it has rained.
Can I also ask if it is possible to have the A/C regulated for when members arrive at the gym first thing in the morning. There are occasions when you arrive and the gym is clearly too hot and other occasions when it is clearly too cold. Last Saturday is a case in point where the gym on Saturday morning at 07:00am was really cold, borderline freezing. It was really noticeable in terms of air temperature.
There was and never is any notice to say if anything is wrong so no communication.
Update to response received:
Thank you for getting back so promptly. I don't feel you read my review carefully. I fully understand that for a variety of reasons, members are not permitted to enter the facility beyond the barriers until the actual opening time. That is understood and is correct. What I am saying is that during these harsh weeks for weather, some staff allow members to enter the reception area to wait for the correct opening time to then access the club but other members of staff do not, so there is clear inconsistency.
Members appear to be allowed to gather in the vestibule, the small are at the entrance before reception. This does not accommodate all members waiting so some are clearly disadvantaged. It is also questionable during this flu season and other air borne issues that people should be allowed to gather in this confined space especially when a number of these people are elderly.
I appreciate that work is being done to prepare the club, you would hope that most preparatory work would be done the night before. It is disappointing when you arrive first things in the morning to find dirty mirrors and gym equipment all over the place.
On the point of drainage in the car park, That is something that should and could be addressed, don't you think.
Recommendation: It is anice club but there are a number of issues that could be easily resolved with a little thought and professional care. We tend to travel to far east and middle east and the level of service we experience in our gym time would put our experience at David Lloyds to shame.
