Credit One Bank unable to verify payment!

I have had an account with Credit One Bank for years. They issued a credit card to me soon after I declared Bankruptcy, almost 10 years ago. I have paid my balance in full consistently, never missed a payment, and have never been late with a payment. I have successfully rebuilt my credit. I now have a 730+ fico. Using their card, and other similar cards, in the manner in which they were designed to be used, accelerated the credit rebuilding process.

After having this card for many years, and, after using the same exact checking account and payment process for many years (I use WAMU on line banking to pay all of my bills), I received a letter, stating the following:

"...We are unable to verify your payment of $xxxx.xx. Due to this reason, we have placed a temporary block on your account. In order to re-activate your account, the following documentation is required: A letter from the financial institution, on bank letterhead, that verifies the owner(s) of the checking account name as it appears on the account and the payment received is authorized by the owner(s). This documentation must also include a contact person and their telephone number..."

I was given less than a week to comply with the request, and a warning that, if I did not meet their deadline, my account would be closed and would be listed as "closed by bank" to the 3 credit reporting agencies.

I received this letter AFTER my card was declined when I tried to use it to buy dinner for a very important client. How embarrassing! My on line balance at Creditonebank.com showed ZERO, and my available credit was my full credit line, so there was no indication that I was going to experience a declined credit card.

I went to my bank and requested the letter, and they told me that all letters must originate from their legal department, which takes a few weeks. They further told me that it would be unlikely that their legal department would comply to such a vague request.

Fortunately for me, the bank branch manager knows me, since I'm in there almost every day. He agreed to write up a short letter complying with their request. I faxed it to Credit One Bank, along with a copy of my statement showing the payment originating from my checking account, and a sternly worded letter from me.

I also sent everything in the fax to them via overnight mail.

I called the day after sending the fax and the letter, and I was informed that they had, in fact, received the fax, BUT, it would be an additional seven to 10 business day before the hold was going to be released.

I spoke to a supervisor and reminded him that I have a history with Credit One Bank that shows an excellent pattern of full balance, on time payments. He agreed that my account was in excellent standing. When I asked what had triggered this issue with the bank, he said that it's a fraud prevention mechanism that gets triggered when someone sends in a large payment.

Wait a minute: PAYING MY BALANCE IN FULL MAY BE CONSIDERED FRAUD?

Plus, I almost ALWAYS pay my balance in full, and it's frequently more than the payment that triggered this event. Go figure.

I told him that someone who pays their balance in full, consistently and on time, is being treated like someone who does the exact opposite. He agreed, but was unable to offer any additional help. So my card will be unusable for almost a month, because I pay my balance in full. And, the payment I sent to them, since it originates on-line from my checking account, has already been withdrawn from my available balance. What a ripoff!

Note to Credit One Bank: "I'm sorry you do not make money off me in the form of late payment fees, over limit fees, high interest, and other fees you charge people who do not manage their money well, or, have fallen on hard times. But, if you are going to punish me for playing by YOUR rules, I say, go to hell!"

I have a ton of other credit cards that do not subject me to such criminal-like treatment. I'll use them from now on.

Goodbye, Credit One Bank!

These rooster suckers are using these strong arm mafia type tactics. Asking for statement information they already have along with the payment they received. Just because they can’t get all those fees they were planning on cause I think up because you pay your bill every month like a responsible person. I think a class action lawsuit needs to be filed against them. They should be suspended from the market from even having any type banking of this type.

This just happened to me: I am trying to rebuild credit. So I got this card about 3 months ago and paid it full everytime. Then they raised my limit : I never exceeded half the limit and was attempting to pay the bill fully. I tried to make the payment 3 times, in which, Credit one states that it was rejected because of NSF-- however, I never got any notice for that. Then, I got a message saying they need to verify deposits. I verified the deposits and went online to pay off my balance (less than 380)- The online system states I have exceeded the limit to make payments.

Today I called because they deactivated my account online and stated I need a bank validation letter- WTF. I am trying to pay off a full balance and now I need a letter.. However, they said they would be able to take the payment with my debit card over the phone. (but the account would still be closed) .. At this point, I might as well wait till they send it to collections..

I have had my credit one card for a year. had a zero balance for about 5 months hadn't used it in that time. Then it was maxed out through PayPal overnight. I assume fraud . They canceled the card and sent me a new one with a new account number. I activated the card and two weeks later it was maxed out again through PayPal. Canceled again and new card sent. I have never used this card online. I am afraid to activate the new card feels like something weird is going on on there end

On 9/2/08 I made my payment on line and received a confirmation number. Today 9/17/08 I receive a call stating that my payment was not made and that I could make a payment over the phone. When I told them that I had made a payment and had a confirmation number I was informed that that number ment nothing and that even if I had a print out of the receipt it was no good. I did not feel that I should have to pay a 29.00 late fee when my payment was not late. I spoke with a supervisor whom also informed me they could not track a confirmation number and he would not remove the late fee.

I work in collections in MA and know that the fee could of been waived very easly and that a confirmation number can be track.

Needless to say - I did call back had the 29.00 fee waived and closed my account with them.

The same thing happened to me! I made a minimum payment online because I was out of town and received a conf. number. The payment never went through and I never knew because I had a number. They told me I should have kept up with my account, but if you sit down one day and pay all your bills and have conf. #'s, you don't exactly think you have to check up on it.

Now they have reported me to Experian for that and I called to dispute, telling them had a conf. # and they said I typed in the wrong sec. code for my debit card. I don't understand why I got a conf. # if the card supposedly wasn't even valid. Now it's on my credit even though I attempted timely payment. Just when I was rebuilding credit . RIDICULOUS!

This happened to me in Sept. 08, too.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE CREDIT ONE! WHEN I FIRST RECEIVED MY CREDIT ONE CARD, I ASKED IF THEY PROVIDED ACCOUNT INSURANCE, I WAS TOLD NO. ONE DAY, CHECKING MY BALANCE THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM NICELY TOLD ME THAT I WAS NOT PROTECTED AND IF I WANTED TO SIGN UP. SIGNING UP WITH THE CREDIT PROTECTION, I PAID MY BILLS FOR YEARS ON TIME. WHEN MY TIME OF HARDSHIP OCCURRED, THEY DID NOT PROTECT ME AT ALL! SO, I ENDED UP WITH A BUNCH OF LATE FEES, OVER LIMIT FEES, AND THEY CONTINUED TO BILL ME FOR PROTECTION! FINALLY, THEY CANCELED MY CARD AND ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED MY CREDIT SCORE. I WENT FROM A 703 TO A NICE 396! THANK YOU CREDIT ONE!

I just filed for bankruptcy. They sent me a card. There was a fee attached. I called 3 days ahead of my payment due date and made a payment with my paypal card. I spoke with a woman. She gave me a confirmation #. I received a phone call this morning . The man told me that my payment was late.
I told him I had called it in 3 days before the payment was due. He said no you called in to say that you were going to pay it in 3 days. I said now why would I call in to tell you I am going to pay my bill in 3 days when it wasn't even due yet. I gave him the confirmation # the woman gave me. He spoke with someone esle that was there with him and said she has a comfirmation number. I heard a man say tell her that isn't our confirmation number. What I am doing is canceling paypal card that I made the payment with. Paypal said they had not made an attempt to take the payment. They charged me a late fee for not paying the card on time $60.00. Isn't there someone in Washington that looks into this type of business. It is criminal.

I totally agree, it's not fair. I do have a question though. Have you ever paid your balance to credit one long before the due date? I paid mine almost three weeks ago and they still haven't credited it to my account. Has that ever happend to you?

Credit One Bank charges before you activate the card!

I received an invitation for the credit one card. Took them over 10 days from the date they said the card had been mailed. I activated the account by phone. Then I went online to set up the account. I noticed that they had already had sent a bill for charges before the account was even activated. Called the 800 number that they have and they tell me the account is not activated until they say so. Told them that was fine cancel the effective immediately and that I was notifying a lawyer about this. Please do not do business with this company. I am also going to notify the attorney general for the State of Nevada and the BBB about this company.

all you have it all wrong, credit one bank is not a scam, when you get the card or what ever, the paper that says "terms and conditions" yea your suppose to read that, obviously many of you just discard it, like if you read the terms and conditions in the first place you wouldent have a problem, As for the charges before actv the card AGAIN if you read the terms and conditions you would understand that if you dont actv your card YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY A FLIPPIN CENT! the fees are a one time only enrollment fee of eather $69 or $39 and also an anual fee of $69 that is broken down to $5,75 per month, ALSO you dont have to pay the full amnt at once, you only have to pay $20 minimun per month, and it prob sounds like i work for them but i dont.. just to clear that up! im just sick of all these complaints of credit one bank ITS NOT THERE FAULT ITS YOURS FOR NOT READING THE DAMN PAPERS! Credit One Bank is incredible when it comes to scamming you. A few days ago I received a pre-approved letter with a card that looks like a real one. I completely ignored it until today when I received a bank statement from them stating my activation fees and other. Should I believe them? I did not activate a thing and they're already charging me. This' got to be a scam or a case of identity theft.

I have had the dis pleasure of dealing with this credit card company that does NOT try to work with you for anything! They said I charged a card I received in the mail back in april of last year well over 700 dollars when the credit limit was only 200 dollars! And may I remind you I did not charge more then half of the charges---I had called and reported it stolen -they said dont worry about it we will handle it-WELL GUESS WHAT THEY DIDNT HANDLE IT ! And they still are doing nothing about it! It is really starting to piss me off--- I have never received a bill for this amount but yet it is on my credit report! I am still trying find out if they even intend on doing anything about it...or if they are expecting me to pay for charges i didnt do?! And on top of it--- I had the fraud protection plan!I thought that is suppose to work if you have it and the card gets stolen and used!

I wish somone would help me figure this ### out! So it comes off my credit report!

Credit One Bank processing payments on time!

I sent two payments 8 days ago from Columbus, OH to Credit One's payment address and another to another bank with the same zip code. This being both banks should of gotten their payments the same day. The other bank did get the payment and posted it on time 4 days after I mailed it. As of today 8 days later Credit One Bank has not posted my payment and even added a late charge to my account the same day the payment is due. Something funny is going on with this company because when I call them they are rude and talk to you like you are trash. I demanded to speak to a supervisor and he was some kid that treated you the same way. Customer service is very poor and they act like they don't even care about your business and concerns. They are more concerned about their money. I have been rebuilding my credit for years and never been late to anything and now this comes up. I refuse to be taken down by this FRAUDULENT bank and their practices. I have decided to contact an attorney and pursue legal action against Credit One Bank. I will keep this posted as information becomes available.

I am so sorry that everyone here is having problems with Credit One bank. I must be one of the lucky ones because I have had the card since June 2007 and they have increased my credit limit twice already (a customer now for 7 mos). I pay my bills through my bank bill pay (my bank pays them via EFT) and I haven't had a problem at all. Perhaps its because I pay the C1 bills through my online bill pay, and I dont mail them a check.

Good luck to everyone - I hope that everything gets resolved.

Oh my god! I recently accepted my offer online yesterday! I wonder if it will happen to me. Do you guys have any suggestions when the time comes that I will pay my bills? Is it better to pay in check?...I think credit one cardholders should file a Class Lawsuit against this fraudulent Credit card company! thanks to all of your feedback about this stupid company!

The same thing happened to me. I've only had the card for a few months and everything was going fine until I tried to make an online payment a few days before the due date. I was given a confirmation number which I printed out. After the due date, I noticed that the payment was never processed and they charged me a late fee and an over the limit fee. When i called Credit One they told me that I entered my debit card number incorrectly. I told them that the number is automatically stored in their system and that I had not changed it since I opened the account which had always worked. He then put me on hold for about ten minutes and when he got back on the phone he told me that he was mistaken. It wasn't my debit number, but the security code on the back. However, there is NO where to enter that information in their system. Liars! They deliberately do not process your payment until after the due date so that they can charge you astronomical fees.

These guys are crooks!

When I finally spoke with a representative on the phone, I immediately paid the entire balance and demanded that they close my account. I want absolutely nothing to do with this credit card company. They will continue to scam and charge you fees that are not warranted.

If you have this card, do anything you can to pay it off and close it immediately.

Good luck!

I pay my bills through bill pay an online banking feature linked to my checking account. For about 6 straight months I received numerous late fees and couldn't figure out what was going on because I pay everything on time. Well I finally decided to pay off the balance on my credit card and after 18 days of nothing being posted to my account, I contacted my bank who informed me that they changed their mailing address. They changed the mailing address so that any payments being mailed to them would have to be rerouted, forwarded or returned to sender justifying a late fee! I am actually on hold right now with Credit One Bank to see what BS they are going to tell me now!

However, I did cancel my account last week.

Thank you for those that posted comments. I was interested in getting this card, so I went online to fill out my application. I put in the website address and a search engine popped up. Well, I thought I typed something wrong, so I put in the address again... Same search engine popped... I don't know alot about computers, but that just didn't seem right to me. I went to google and put in Credit One and this is what I came to. Thank you for saving me from getting p*ssed off down the line... I have very SERIOUS anger management issues, so reading your comments let me know that if I did business with these people I might one day be on the news.

Credit One Bank payment problems on website

I have a Credit One credit card and I am very glad it has a very low balance and I will be paying them off and cutting it up. I believe this is a company owned by a bank in India. Talking to them on the phone makes me very uncomfortable as their arrogance leads me to believe they are scamming people. I have yet to speak to someone that does not have and accent. I made a payment online on June 22 and today is the 24 and there is not even a pending payment noted. I do have a reference number but with the way they do business I doubt that will matter. I plan on reporting this company to my state banking and finance government as well as the Security Fraud dept.

Credit One Bank overdue bill

Credit one bank has always sent me an envelope (Bill) as a reminder to make a payment and given me ample time to do so... If they are late giving me a reminder... Naturally I will be late... It appears as though they have this all figured out and practice "not sending the payment envelope" resulting in an extra overdue charge... Vultures!

Just curious since the company has their own feedback board why all these complaints aren't posted there where they would be better viewed? Has anyone tried? Do they delete or modify their clients feedbacks and only keep select comments? Right now it says their customers have left an average of 4.7 out of 5 star feedback. I'd be interested to see if all these complaints here, if left on their review board would remain or not? Here's a link to where you can leave feedback and reviews if you desire... creditonebank dot com/credit-cards (url links not permitted here I guess so you should be able to decipher that link I left). Try there and see what happens?

Question...Unless the bank has people who selectively edits or deletes feedback, why aren't all these negative comments on their review board? Right now they show a 4.7 out of 5.0 Star feedback review. I'd be interested if some of the people with complaints here left their honest review on their feedback board if it would remain there? Here's a link https://www.creditonebank.com/credit-cards to air your feelings about the company.

I don't even have an account with this credit provider, I was just checking on them to see what kind of company they were first - Pretty Scary looking by the comments and most of the complaints seem to be very consistent with each other (something I'll certainly keep in mind when reading all their contracts). Some of the opposing comments knocking those who are airing their complaints look rather suspicious as well, as if written by the company or employees of the company themselves. It just doesn't seem to be the type of response you would see from another consumer. I totally agree that all payments should be made on time by the borrower and of course there should be processing fees like with nearly all banks and yes, for those of us who have less than good credit (mine due to a bankruptcy and losing my company in the recession who lost everything) is expected to pay more than someone with gold credit. I only hope that if I take the leap of faith with this company to help restore my credit again that if all payments are made on time that there are reasonable lender fees along with the very high percentage I see is charged for "this second chance" at restoring credit and just hope they really don't run scams to purposely trip you up. Just Sayin~

The only thing I don't understand is a company that makes you pay 7 days in advance from the "DUE DATE" for it to be on time. It takes them a week to post the credit to your credit card. And this is for online payments! If you have to pay within less then 7 days then you should use their express payment that costs 9.95. Everywhere else in the universe understands "due date" and you have up to that DATE to make a payment. Not 7 days before. If they wanted to do it that way, why not move the due date back 7 days and post the darned payments up to the date that the credit card holders have to pay by. This is the main problem with this kind of credit card. Maybe they are "teaching" their customers to pay early and not have to pay a fine. That is crazy business. Credit re builders are supposed to be understanding and have a leeway for credit screw ups for people that are trying to rebuild, not feed them to the sharks. Just my Penny.

I tried paying off my card in full and they said as of that date my balance was a certain amount. But I needed to call back next month to see if there are any other charges before my balance would be considered paid in full..What a joke. Worst Credit Card company in the world..and I have other credit cards and this is not how they do business. I am signed up with all my other companies to pay on line automatically and therefore I am never late. The other credit card companies don't charge me a fee to pay my bill...what is that all about? a fee to pay our bill...really? Credit One you suck! I am going to transfer the balance to another card...and forget this company ever exsisted..their customer service is the WORST..one acutally hung up on me..and another was extremely rude. What comes around goes around...and they suck!

Credit one is the worst credit card company! Their customer service is very rude. I regret ever opening an account with them. Just made a payment of $350 two days ago and I checked my bank checking account and it shows credit one has taken their payment of $350 YET credit one still won't allow me to have access to my available credit til next week, their holding my $300+ available credit for another 6 days...my goal now is to close my account with credit one by next month.

I received my Credit One bank card and my bill was due on April 26. I used my online bill pay with my bank and they sent a check with my account # on it to the correct address...get this on April 3rd, a full 23 days before the payment was due...that's right 23 days before the payment was due...

Three weeks laters and they still had not processed the check or credited my account...so I was forced to pay online at their site and give them their extra payment fee in addition to pay on time. It took them 2 days to post this payment although it was on time.

Then I get a message back from my bank that they returned my payment like two days before the due date. They had the check and held it because they don't like it when people use bill pay to avoid their fees. It doesn't take 3 weeks to process a check folks. They force you to pay using their system and pay their fees so they can make extra money. They know you'll pay online to avoid being late and they can tap you for the payment fee.

If I keep having problems with them, I'll cancel the card. 1st Premier allows me to use bill pay and always credits my account quickly. HSBC allows me to pay online with no fee.

Keep an eye on your account because you can pay a month in advance and they'll hold your check and make you pay their fees to pay. I'll try again next month, but if they keep playing games, I'll kick them to the curb.-Marie

I have a complaint never late pay before time I do not understand why you have to pay 7.95 to do check online to make your payment that does not make sense I have a real problem with that if you are paying then why should you have to pay the fee? Just like last I was checking to see if my payment was received yet and they had charge me a late fee the day was not over but you charge a late fee what sense do that make, how are the helping to rebuild credit if they are charge late fee before the day is over not checking their mail

This company is another one of those credit card companies that thinks that they can squeeze blood from a turnip. We have been trying to pay these people every single month and calling them and working with them and still they charge our credit card fees that surpass the amount of money that we pay.

This creates a never-ending debt that can never be repaid that they hope to be charging us for forever. They refuse to work with us and they simply demand money that we just don't have. We are sorry that we got into debt, but we are like a lot of people who did that.

We don't have any active credit accounts anymore and we are paying off $7,500 in debt at the rate of $293 per month. At that rate, the debt will be paid in a little over two years. I think that we are working as hard as we possibly can to get out of debt, but this company, unlike the other 14 creditors on our debt management plan, refuses to accept payments, keeps the size of the debt going up and plans on taking the next step of suing us.

Thing is, we beg food from the church every month now and there is nothing for them to get from suing us. No judge on the planet will force us to beg more food from the church every month and that is what these people think they are going to get one to do. Good luck with that, Credit One.

They charge a service charge before you ever use the card then they charge ridiculous late fees. I have spent so many hours on the phone and blood, swear and tears. THEY ARE THIEVES who prey on people who have poor credit. The lowest or low. Run!

I always pay my bill on the first of the month. This month you decided to charge me a late fee for a payment I already made.

I am in the same situation friend, this 'company', if you can call it that, is nothing but an online SCAM.

They send you a 'Pre-Approval' for a credit card, with a large enough balance to be attractive, but GOD HELP YOU if you ever actually use the card, because that is where their con starts to pay off for them.

The 1st thing they do is jack the interest rate on the card up to the stratosphere.

Then they start charging you large charges monthly for the fact that the card even exists, calling them 'Interest Charges' or some such nonsense. (attached)

Then, if you just pay off the balance, that is not enough, because these fraudulent 'Interest Charges' just keep coming EVERY MONTH, even if you have a $0 Balance. I know this because I paid my Balance in full, and owed nothing, that is until today when I got an almost $90 Balance on the card, which I have not used for weeks now. (attached)

The only thing you can do if these predators have you in their web is to cancel the card account completely, good luck with that, and cut it to pieces, and then MAYBE they will not be able to steal any more money from you.

I realize that will adversely affect you Credit Score, closing an account, but once criminals have you in their clutches it becomes the lesser of 2 evils unfortunately!

The phone is busy 24/7. I can't even activate my new card. I will be closing both of my accounts because of this.

I want to change my contact number to receive a text message. Where I can see my profile to change information, that's all I am asking for. I don't want anything free; change the data in real time. Semper-fi.
