WinCo Foods horrid turkey wings

We do our monthly grocery shopping at our local winco grocery store, here in Stockton. This month we purchased 4 packages of turkey wings. One and a half weeks ago I baked 2 of the packages for dinner. First of all, it was not just wings as the label said. It was turkey quarters, wings with leg connected. When they were finished baking, per our meat thermometer, I served them to the family. As I ate my wing the first two bites were fine. After the second bite.. you could not eat the meat. You had to actually try to rip it off the bone, was sooo tough you could not chew it. When you could finally rip all the meat off, all along the bones were little pieces of fat that you could not get off. My oldest son took a leg. After he took 3 bites he got a funny look on his face that I and his wife both noticed. Long story short his first 2 bites were tender so he decided to eat it like a chicken leg, took a bite and shattered 3 of his teeth on the left side of his mouth! He is at this moment at his dentists office as an emergency! I have one more package of this product in my freezer which I will not use. What should I do about this. I baked 8 pieces of the first 2 packages and all 8 pieces were the same!

WinCo Foods job harrasment

Seems that they can't take time to train new employees but can threaten them. Jennifer seems to think she can harass new people . I've watched her go after a new fellow that is working with me. I thought adults worked for winco the sexual talk is out of hand on the sales floor at night. making fun of people is what the manager does best. I've been with winco for awhile they just cant seem to give new people a break ... good way to keep hiring new people so they don't have to hand out health and other benifits. They work this kid alone while we get help, There trying to get rid of him. Shame on Jennifer she is a major tattle tale and bully.

This is a company-wide issue. Bullying and alienating are common practices in the WinCo stores, sadly.

I have gone to management now three out of the four times someone has had a dog in the store. This last time it happened I talked to Jason on Dec 27th 2010 and he said the store manager says to let it go as when they confront people about the dogs they get all irate and start yelling and the management wants to avoid that. The incident before they ask the...

My sister and I got food poisening on meat we bought and cooked it on dec 12 2010 and had to go to the doctor for some medicine for the vomiting and neausa. The store wrote up an accident report for thier insurance company and said it will take 72 hrs to get back to us. Have not heard anything back as of yet. It felt like someone reached in and ripped out my stomach.

If food is cooked properly, you don't get food poisoning. Any raw food needs to be cooked and handled properly. Blaming winco for your inability to properly cook or decontaminate your prep surface is... silly...

WinCo Foods winco foods food poisoning from eggnog that was not expired yet.

I purchased eggnog that was not expired. It had green mold and black mold fusse in the carton after I had been drinkig about 5 glasses over a period of 4-5 days. Discovered on the 23rd of november 2010 why I had been sick since november 17, 2010. Discovered it was not the stomach flu I had some type of intestinal abdominal food poisioning from the eggnog I had purchased november 14, 2010 which had an expiration date of november 26, 2010. Imagine that a store you shop at 2-3 times a month could cause you to be ill for 7days including thanksgiving day my holiday was messed up and I had a body shut down from the mold and contaminated eggnog. I filled a claim that night I had them take pictures of the eggnog and the proof of purchase. It is the 27th of november and still no word from the insurance co. Or the store still calling them and waiting been going to the dr for my illness to get better from the diarhea and vomitting and stomach cramps and pain. I have a family and just recently had a new babie boy and am trying to get well to see for them.!

This would not be the fault of the store, unless they improperly stored the product, which is likely, as I have been to WinCo before and know what their dairy setup is like.

You should file a claim with the manufacturer also, as they might have been at fault and not the store.

You probably wont get any "action" from this until after all of the holidays are over.

WinCo Foods fear and intimidation

Winco Expansion and Employment Screening, etc:
If you make it through the very strange pre-employment process on the web (tracked by your SS#...hmmmm, enough said) you will find yourself at some hotel waiting to get an "interview slot" for a week later. I found my interview to be more of a "formality" since I was obviously "older" and this was evident with the "cut to the chase" rude behavior of an obviously untrained "HR Professional"? After this "exercise" I was told that I'd be notified before weekend...and that quickly changed to end of the month...none of which happened. Duh? Why does it take 3 people to interview an "older" person, and only one person to interview a young person? I'm real happy I recorded the whole event. Don't jump into a job for the job sakes...'cause it may be a daily living Hell (prisoner) for you in the long run.

WinCo Foods low standards, no customer care

There Are hundreds of flies at the bottom of the open freezer and rusty razor Blades in the bottom of the fridge section. All kinds of products are have slits cut into them with the product going stale. If you go in there in the middle of the night you will see they pull there frozen and refridgerated products out of cold storage hours before it gets stocked. That explains how all the chocolate chips sunk to the bottom of my 5 galloon tub of mint and chip ice cream. i guess thats ok since there dirt cheap to shop. what pushed me to report this is i had a shopping cart put a nice dent in my truck and they said thell pay for it when they check the cameras, i kept harassing them to fix it but they kept telling me not to worry it will get taken care of. then 31 days later i get a letter in the mail saying my claim was denied. Then i talk to the store manager ed, asking why, he said they couldnt find anything and i asked to let me see the video and convienyently they get erased every 30 days. f*** you winco

WinCo Foods Customer service

I was at the seafood counter and asked for three lobster tails. The sign read $3.98 ea, and I ask they guy behind the counter to double check and he said they were. I had a hard time talking to him, because his friends kept talking over me, asking for "individually bagged shrimps" among other things, thinking they were funny. When I was paying at the register I notice the price was over $14.00 dollars for the lobster. I went to customer service immediately after being rung up to correct the error. Chad S. went to check the price, that is when I found out they only wrapped TWO TAILS instead of three, and they charged me by the pound instead of by EACH tail. He then tried to tell me it was $9.96 for the two tails, I asked him if he saw the sign that read #3.98 each and he said yes, then asked me if I would like the difference from the $14.94 I was originally charged, I of course said yes. He gave me the difference between $9.98 and $14.94... not $7.96 ($3.98 twice) and the $14.94. When I said he over charged me again... he said "it's the tax"... THERE IS NO TAX ON LOBSTER TAILS, and even if there were, it would not equal $2.02! He then stormed away angry, refusing to give me the posted price, even though he saw the sign, and I had to ask someone else to refund me completely, and left with no lobster... and angry myself. THANKS FOR THE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE CHAD S... and the wonderful guy who ignores customers to talk to his friends behind the seafood counter!

Winco WT Heck. Last time I was in to buy a Fried chicken family meal it was 13.98. Today I seen the price was 17.98. No thank You. Why? Is it because everyone is buying your chicken because its good? You let me down as I always bought it from you as it is good. No more. Also please keep extra Banquet Box Chicken on hand as it looks like everyone is going to that. You were out of this item. Remember some customers are better than none.

every times I go to WinCo I'm force to deal with a rude employee
like 10 minutes ago I just ask if there is a fresh bread
and I'm getting a ### attitude answer from the employee
you know if you people can't be polite and respectful
you shouldn't get that kind of job
I give to WinCo one more change
if I'm getting 1 more time that kind of attitude from their own employees
WinCo won't see me again
I go spend my money somewhere else

Sounds like your experience with not one but TWO employees was downright horrible. Imagine, that chad S. guy stomping off...clop, clop, clop, clop...fists clenched, brows pinched with his pointy nose aimed high in the air, as he flat out refuuuuuses to refund you. "Nope. No way, sir. I am not going to refund you, and you can't make me." And then there's that deli worker who's just too damn busy laughing and carrying on with his buddies, having a grand ole time, while not paying you any attention.

You poor dear, bless your heart. Do you need a hug? Sounds like you were feeling a bit lonely that day and just needed to have someone 'listen' to your complaints.

blah blah blah. Lets cry about it some more. This story is so one sided. Id like to hear from Winco and hear what they would have to say. This is not the way it went just by knowing that anyone who wants to keep there job doesn't just walk away from the customer and act mad. I am sure he did do some things wrong but you are overly exaggerating it. Anyone with a brain is not going to take you seriously.

WinCo Foods bad employment practices

Winco foods is the worst employer I have ever had the displeasure of coming across. Are all the other employees on food stamps while working for them too? Is it normal for the person in charge to yell at new employees during their training? Do the customers at all winco stores complain about the management? Do all employees that don't have to be on food stamps degrade those who are? Even when they have a job? Working at winco! Do all stores hire new employees to avoid paying medical and giving the current employees the hours they need and want? Do all winco's give their buddies more hours and neglect other faithful employees? Is it common practice in a very high theft store to fire the employees for not catching a thief? Is it ethically right to fire employees for filing for unemployment when they are only scheduled for 5-18 hours for the week when they were told at hire it is full time? Do all winco's practice bad employment practices or is it just the one in federal way, washington? This is just the beginning. Sure they have great prices, but even those have been going up and I have seen the prices at fred meyers consistently beating winco's prices for many items now. The other stores are catching on to the economy and beating winco's prices now with great customer service and help to your pocketbook!

It's time to investigate this organization and tear it out by the roots.
BTW There is No Winco near my new location, but I STILL have A NEED TO SEE Winco DISAPPEAR.

A white supremacist store? Anti trust? Plz. I've worked there less than a year and some of the most awesome people work there. Not that I think winco is great or great anything. But I guarantee that any complaints that have been posted about winco midvale are by former employees or friends of some one who works there and just wants to start some garbage. Winco isn't great but its employees are some of the very best and that is a fact. Go shop somewhere else. Shop where lesser employees handle your families food. Enjoy.

The freight crew position at winco in Gilbert arizona is by far from any city and or state that I've Ever been in in my entire life the absolute WORST. The turnover rate has a turnover rate that is so ridiculous to the point that it is very clear that ex employees, friends, family members etc are spreading the word every which way possible. There short staffed with the sign of new hires knowwhere in site. Clearly people are being told the truth, and that's stay as far away from winco as possible even as a customer. They have employees from surrounding locations along with some other people come in as shoppers and disorganize the store which is very counter productive and costly especially when certain products spoil on the shelf. There's down talk, back stabbing, breach of confidentiality policy and total disregard for other company policies even by managers or crew leads. This is NOT a discrimination free location by any means and that's been proved to be clear. To all people that may be reading this and might think of employment at winco keep track of everything, meaning document with pen and pad or however you can everything. Times, dates, location in store, persons names, clothing at documented time, a discrimination of what happened etc. Contact the EEOC instead of managers at the store, it won't go anywhere. These people have three or more heads and control more than they let on and even pry into your personal life outside of the workplace. As long as you work there stay consistent and document and make sure to stay in contact with the EEOC on a regular basis.

In my opinion Winco in Eureka CA. is not a safe place to be after 10 pm. It appears that they do not have any security personnel after 10 PM. I contacted their Corp. office about the liquor section being locked up after 10 PM and I was told that this was a local store manager's choice due to theft problems. However, the wine on the floor and the beer cooler have no need to be secured from theft, this is strange. I pointed out to them that they had video cameras monitoring every possible location in the store they refused to respond with an answer. What about safety for their employees, as well as the customers? Apparently this area is a high crime location due to having to lockup the liquor section. They should have security people available to protect everybody, they don't care, it's all about the bottom line to them.

A box of Kraft Macaroni was opened & poured into pot to boil and it was loaded full of bugs. Upon inspecting all items in our cupboard we began opening each and every item and dumping each one into ziplocs and 3 out of 4 boxes were loaded full of bugs and not just a few either! We have had our cabinets completeltly scoured and fumigated each time we have gone thru this and yet every time we go shopping we come home and it happens all over again! We our so furious we have lost at least $500.00 easily in food and spices that all come from there. No-one at the store cares to fix this problem and the health department claims it is a manufacturing problem not a health dept. issue! So then which manufacturer should we start with because I can give you the list so buyers beware - Kraft Macaroni and cheese, Rice A Roni, Zatarains, Idahoan, Pasta Roni, Betty Crocker, Hy Top, Golden Grain and trust me this is not a joke at all there are more names! Do not expect to get help with this because Win Co will tell you they have never ever had such a complaint. However, I saw on the internet that a person had ants in a bottle of bacon bits! So as you see it's not just I.

It is amazing how disgruntled workers complain about their jobs. I disagree with almost every one of these assessments. My wife has worked at Winco for the past 24 years and has enjoyed it. She started low on the ladder and still is low considering her position. The one thing she probably does that a lot of these whiners don't do is work. Some have complained about the benefits and say unless you are a full time employee you don't get them. The policy says you need to meet 3 simple things, work 1000 hours in a year, work 500 hours in your first 6 months and be 18 years old, that's all. You can meet the hours requirement by just doing 20 hours a week. They are not union so you don't have to pay union dues. They have a comity that arbitrates issues and anyone can be on the comity at any given time. Once you meet the min requirements you care eligible for the benefits to include the Generous ESOP. If you want full time then request to go into training for management position. The lady that my wife worked with 20+ years ago is now the Store manager where she works and does a great job. So, do your job, and show up on time when you are scheduled. Very simple. If you have a boss that is overbearing either learn how to manage it or leave. After seeing how the youth of today whine about the most simplest thing its a wonder they survive. Your not going to get hired on making top pay, you haven't proven yourself worthy of it. Get a real clue and stop telling the world your entitled and work for it. After 23 years of loyal work she has earned the respect of her co-workers and her ESOP of over 500K ... Husband - Retired Army Sergeant First Class. OH... go get a real crappy job first like cleaning out latrines then maybe you would appreciate a good job.

I agree with the majority of what you have written, however, WinCo is not what it used to be. The change in upper management has not been a good one. I fear that if they do not change their focus back to the original vision of WinCo, they will run the company into the ground.

90% of these people are ###ed.

You don't get hired on at full time status. Winco has never done this.

Your hours get scaled back if you're part of a mass hire for a new store opening. Everyone is getting low hours at a new store, not just you. If your hours are getting cut at an established store it's because you're underperforming.

If your ability to perform your work duties (signed at hire) changes, you simply need a doctor's note and winco makes every accommodation (including chairs for sitting in any location of the store) for new needs per ADA.

Winco cannot "prevent" you from getting the hours required for periodic raises. Any hour worked is put toward the raise step requirement. For example, 1000 hours worked from step 1 to 2 will be gained in 1000 hours. Period. No one is preventing you from working those hours (except the 2 scenarios above, one of which is your own performance).

I've worked for winco for 9 years. It's a fantastic company to work for and the insurance and ESOP programs are great. I busted my hump on the graveyard shift and hit the last pay step of full time status in about 4 years. If I quit today, my ESOP would total around $70k and be paid out in a format that I choose.

Winco is a fast paced, good employer that asks a lot of its employees and gives a lot in return.

Don't want to work weekends, evenings and want to call out with the sniffles twice a week? Then winco won't work for you, either.

15 years at WinCo Distribution center. Retired last year. Best job I ever had. Everyone is valued. You really have to screw up to lose your job, like theft, gross misconduct, fighting, etc. I started selecting orders on graveyard where everyone starts, and worked up to a coordinator/supervisor. Show up to work, do your job well, that's all they ask.

I worked at winco for 24yrs, we only had 13 store's and no distribution center, I was hired as a cashier, latter doing many other duties. I loved working my job, liked all other employees, my manager's were and are awesome people, I had found a home. I was in charge of different areas of the store, most recently the inhouse bread dept for 15yrs, whare I made it my department. The original president also was loved, he made everyone feel important, and was generous to all. I was happy and loved working at winco foods, then original president retired, and then everything changed. The new ceo fundamentally changed the company, I no longer felt valued, I was demoralized, my days were numbered at Winco food. Long story short, I no longer work at winco, I live with my parents, im on food stamps and am depressed most of the time. All I wont now from winco is my hard earned ESOP money, and move on with my life. I know winco could pay me off now, because 5yrs ago they payed off my ex wife. Again, I loved being a part of winco, just regret how it ended, I miss the glory days with the original president leading us like he did, I miss him.

WinCo Foods treated unfairly

Ive been working at Winco Foods in Corvallis now for 5 years and the last year to 1 1/2 years my co-workers and bosses have been making these rediculous accusations; saying im not doing anything, my area is never getting completed, my orders are all late or wrong; they also say im being rude and disrespectful. They are saying and accusing me of all these things when none of it is true.

winco store # 39 is doing good in my town. But some of the employees are having sexual relations in and around the store, A person in charge (PIC) and a cart kid under 18 have been doing this for a while they wait till management leaves for the night and carry on in store. I know they have cameras on site so I wonder why hasn't something been done? I am really conserned being there and watching these things happen.

WinCo Foods rude out of line

Days after the incident it still seems surreal, my daughter being walked away accused of shoplifting. The police did not show up or were ever called instead it was Winco Supermarket Rent-a-Cop(s) who intimidated and extorted my daughter.
It started when my daughter and I accompanied by my three-year-old granddaughter went shopping at the Lancaster WinCo in Salem for our family holiday dinner December 21st. I like the prices and we have shopped there for years. The bulk of the food was in the basket I pushed because my granddaughter sat in the basket pushed by my daughter. Anyone who has small children knows how difficult they can be when their eyes light up at seeing the brightly package goods. Additionally, children get tired easily and neither my daughter or I can carry my 40lb granddaughter in WinCo for the two hours of shopping we needed to do.
In spite of all our best efforts, my granddaughter was still able to grab items off the shelf. My daughter personally put back princess raviolis, hair ties, and other things that companies use bright cartoon characters to market their products with. I saw my daughter put back the many items she had picked up throught out the store. To be honest, we were more concerned on our holiday shopping than making sure these items were returned to their rightful place. We just did not want the items in our baskets.
We have a large family so it was no surprise that at the end of our shopping trip the cashier rang up a $350 dollar tab while my daughter bagged the groceries, while my grandaughter played with a pink hair band. Not thinking anything about it, with our mind completely focused on bagging groceries and getting home to feed the family, I told my daughter she is going to break her hair band take it away from her. My daughter took it out of her hands and placed it on her purse and continued bagging the groceries. I paid for the items, then my daughter, granddaughter, and myself headed out talking and laughing to the parking lot. I was trying to hurry to my vehicle because my granddaughter was cranky and needed to be changed. It was here that our shopping experience went wrong. WinCo store security ran after us and stopped us in the middle of the parking lot. With the attitude of someone who had just caught John Dillinger, he said very confrontationally “Did you forget to pay for something?” I had just spent nearly four hundred dollars in that store, not knowing my granddaughter had a hair tie in her mothers purse worth pennies from all the items we put back on the shelf earlier. My daughter was taken back into the store against my will and advice, while I headed to the truck to change my granddaughter. Let me say this, I have enough experience with the law and I know my rights. Furthermore, I know, understand, and respect the need for security. However, when security starts making accusations, false threats, and refuses to call the police they become Rent-a-Cops in my eyes because they are not abiding by the law themselfs. They are creating it as they see fit.
I unloaded my groceries and changed my granddaughter and it was then I decided to head back into the store to find out what was going on with my daughter. I rushed back into WinCo with my granddaughter on my hip to find my daughter was nowhere in sight. I went back out to the car to wait for the police to show, for I wasn’t going anywhere without my daughter. After fifteen minutes, my daughter came out to the car from WinCo's security offices in tears with a yellow peice of paper in hand with nothing but her signature on a pre-typed form requiring her to pay a mothly fee. My daughter told me she signed the agreement to pay the store $255 dollars for a theft she did not commit. Apparently, there was one hair band in my daughter’s purse that cost less than a dollar from a package of $5.60 hair ties that my granddaughter had opened. The store security had found the rest of the package somewhere in the store. One of the security intimidated her by making statements like; what happened to the Princess raviolis? Why didn't you steal those too? She wanted them as well! He searched her purse and questioned about every article she had in it asking if she had stolen each of those as well and if they were taken from their WinCo store. These items included items like a make-up brush bought from bath and body (name on the bottom of the brush) and a address book from a tanning salon she tans at. My daughter was told she was going to go to jail and the theft charges would go her record. Knowing that a criminal record would preventing her from having her dream career she immediately agreed to everything in tears. My daughter is 22-years-old and has heard the stories that her stepfather and I have told over the years and was terrified. Her stepfather and I are both law enforcement personnal and my daughter wants to go into law enforcement herself. The only thing she was guilty of is not keeping a better eye on my granddaughter and ignorance of the law. I looked for the phone number and address to WinCos National Headquarters, which the lancaster WinCo refused to give out with only the one piece of paper they gave her. When I called WinCo I was sent from person to person on the phone until I reached a answer machine, where I left a message and never received a call back. I wanted to contact them to know if they agree with the extortion policy their stores have. If my daughter was truly guilty of theft, then why weren’t the police called?
My daughter is young and was embarrassed and humiliated by the whole ordeal. She begged me at this point just to leave it alone, for they told her it would not show up on her record if she just paid $35 dollars a month (totalling $255). When your child is crying and pleading with you just to leave it alone, what do you do? However, I cannot let this go. Is this how WinCo keeps their prices low, through intimidation of naive young women? Refusing to accept payment for an honest mistake, they would rather extort 200+ percent? Where does this money go? Is this the policy of the national chain or just the Salem store? Incarcerated felons don’t get treated the way we were treated of this I personally know. How many others have been extorted like this? My daughter and I are Oregonians and Americans subject to laws of the state and the nation. Why are store security of a national chain allowed to treat Oregonians like we live underneath the Taliban?

In CA THAT'S A TYPE (Oops) of shoplifting. Although totally non intentional, it can definitely land you in a court room facing a misdemeanor.
There is another possible legal issue of extortion by the security at winco, but that all depends on the legal definition of extortion in your municipality, they may be using a legal loophole, but more likely, a good percentage will pay up to $300 to avoid arrest and a criminal record, the fine, maybe even a case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm So Sorry to hear that happened to you, i have to assume you didn't read my post before that happened, I didn't find this forum for complaints until a month after i was banned from EVERY winco ON PLANET EARTH. I never stole anything, I just spotted all the creepy things that happened at my local winco over the last 5 years and reported to their corporate headquarters that i used the rules of the scientific method along with a couple of added rules that greatly clarified my many odd observations of behavior by management, employees AND customers.
I can definitely tell you that winco staff and its customers do NOT appear to accept norms of behavior or the rule of law, even our constitutional rights to freedom of speech or protection from illegal search and seizure. Whenever i was there after D Dump was inaugurated i had the sense that many of these people would one day form or join dome type of pro trump, anti constitution/government/establishment.
Another thing i can tell you is that NO ONE in any position of power and authority in that company wants anything to do with being observed and recorded even on a scratch pad to just record numerical data from observations. There may be a pervasive culture of pathological narcissism and abusive behavior through out the company considering over 100 complaints from nearly as many store locations. The may have recently had me added to a government watchlist, maybe. I suggest you tell everyone you can about winco and refer them to this website. Winco does not uphold or represent our most cherished American values. Winco may very well be a domestic enemy of The People of the United States of America. TELL YOUR FRIENDS, let's shut them down.

Beware of WinCos extortion to keep prices low! I had a very similar issue in Salt Lake City, I was comparing vitamins and could not see the small print on the back of the bottles, I grabbed a pair of $7 reading glasses (identical to 30 pair I left at home!) used them and out of habit stuck them on the top of my head (with a square plastic price tag in plain view) I figured I’d use them, buy them and add them to my collection...after 20 minutes of shopping I checked out with $145 of groceries and got stopped on the sidewalk enroute to my car...I was asked if I had “forgotten to pay for something?” I looked down at my cart and stated no I don’t think so, the man asked “what about the glasses on top of your head”. I shouted oh my goodness yes I totally forgot I’ll run in and take care of that right now! Nope! I was told I had shoplifted and was either going to pay $255 restitution to winco or they would call the police. I’ve never so much as stolen a peanut from bulk foods! I pleaded my case that it was a complete mistake (and why would I steal $7 glasses and pay for $145 worth of groceries?) to no avail, I was frightened and upset by my own absent mindedness and was sitting alone in WinCos security office told to “sign this and pay this”. I left completely upset and embarrassed by my stupid mistake and will never set foot in winco again!

I should warn others about the flipside of the shoplifting coin.
This is the situation where you purchase something, but you don't take it out of the store, because for instance, you walked to the store, but realize you need to come back with the car to get it home. A 24 pack of Dasani bottled water in my case. Even without contact with store security, something will coincidentally occur to warn you of the increased possibility of a negative encounter with security.
Best advice to all: Take great care that you do not accidentally walk out with unpaid items or actually try to shoplift.
DO NOT cause or give yourself reason to return to a Winco store to pickup an already paid for item. Do not create any need for a return trip on any unresolved issue for any reason. The large number and nature of complaints on this site concerning Winco foods indicate that this is an inherently hazardous place to shop. I have compared the store in Hemet CA to all other grocery stores in town and they are all normal and safe.
Winco Foods in this comparison, is Unique, but in comparison to other winco locations listed in these complaints, very oddly consistent.
Basically seems that Winco allows employees' expressions of their dysfunctional relationships from home to come out in public behavior involving innocent unwary customers in Winco store locations mentioned in these complaints. BE CAREFUL or avoid this situation completely, no savings on prices can justify such a risk.
I'm HAPPY to pay more for a SAFE and NORMAL shopping environment!

Just had a horrific experience of seeing loss prevention in Modesto, CA Winco beat the daylights out of a man right in front of my boys who were scared so bad we won't be shopping there again. Security (3 of them at least twice the mans size) tackled the man, then slammed his head into the floor. The man rolled over in pain and they grabbed his throat and choked him until he stopped making sound. They hit him in the head and face and he was bleeding and yelling for them to stop. They put handcuffs on him and took him away laughing and acting satisfied with themselves. Loss prevention has no more right to assault a person than you or I do even if said person is stealing. They are NOT Law enforcement! The police don't even have the right to assault a criminal like that. We'd crucify them if they did. If I wasn't so worried about protecting my boys I would have grabbed my cell phone and recorded it. After reading all this I am appalled at such an awful place and I for sure will never set foot in the place again. Shame shame shame on Winco! Winco is awful!

This just happened to me! I live in Idaho and I recently sprained my ankle. I was running in for a quick Mother's Day shopping and I picked up a few other things. I didn't grab a cart when I started because I only thought I was getting flowers and a card! So a few small things I had in my pockets. Well the nail polish i ud in one pocket fell out as I was walking with my crutches so I picked it up and went to the self checkout. I spent over $20 there. I start to leave.. I don't even get out the door and the "rent a cop" stops me and asks "did you forget to pay for something." I said no I don't think so you can check my bags" he replies "it's obviously not in there.." So I hand him everything I was holding including my purse and my keys to check my pockets.. Remembering that I had put stuff in there before.. It's a baggy sweat shirt and I didn't have a cart. I pull out one thing if makeup and say " oh man! I'm really sorry! I forgot this was in here I'll go pay for it real quick." He grapes it out of my hand and. Said "to late.. Follow me!" So I do as he says and he reached for a door and said.. "Once you are in there you will put ur stuff on the counter and sit quietly in the coner" I complied and when he asked if this is my first time ever shop lifting I said " I've never shop lifted before.. If I would have rememberd it was there I would have gone back and paid for it myself.. I'm really sorry about all this." He asked me how many times I go to that specific win-co I said "maybe 2 or 3 times a week.. Maybe more... I live right across the street." He replied well I'm going to have you sign this no trespassing paper for leagle reasons but you are aloud back in the premises when ever you want. It's just for documentation. Also you owe us $255 and since I know u obviously can't pay that all right now you can give us $35 a month." I asked for what perpous I was willing to pay for the makeup.. And he just told me I could go after typing all my drivers license info into the computer and taking my picture. I didn't even get out the door! I want to fight it but I don't want to make it worse and have them press charges. What can I do?

My wife just got the winco raw deal at the Mcminnville branch because of her client ( one who competes in the special Olympics) walked out with a cart full of groceries while my wife went into bathroom. The rent a cop came at the mentally challenged elderly lady like Hawaii 5 0. After trying to explain to the rent a cop that my wife's client doesn't understand due to her mental abilities, he proceeded to accuse my wife of telling her to do it. WTF. Really! Cold hearted! This is BS trying to extort $350 from a mentally handy cap person.

This is called unlawful imprisonment. If they were really going to press charges they would have called the police which would have put a stop to the gorilla tactics they use. They just told an innocent woman they were going to have her deported and she would never be allowed back in the United States after confiscating her passport (illegal) and they found NOTHING on her. She had picked up a lipstick and they had not seen her put it back down but she had and she didn't have it. Did that stop them? Of course not! We have hired an attorney and she will get more than her $250.00 dollars back I guarantee it. She does not read English yet they forced her to sign a legal document that she could not read. What amazes me in these stories is that these are good customers of theirs. Most of these people, including us, have spent more than $200 in their store. Holding someone against their will is called kidnapping, taking money to let them go is called extortion. Wake up and smell the coffee. Maybe they can get a class action suit going here.

Yep, it's totally someone else's fault that YOU couldn't watch your (or should I say 'ur') kid. Obviously, your kid can do whatever they like and you are completely unaccountable for it.
...
..
Oh wait, that's not right. You made the kid so you are actually responsible for what it does. Imagine that. So, my dear, 'ur_welcome', take care of your responsibilities, don't try and blame others, don't try and attack those who are online and post the truth, and above all else, get over yourself. I'd hate to think you have offspring that will grow up like you. Poor thing.

WinCo Foods demanding drivers liscence from disabled

I was leaving Winco in a disability cart and was demanded a drivers License by a employee. After objecting, I just left without submitting one.
If Winco wants to use a "License requirement" for the disabled because of thievery, thus in a way insulting them, then they should try that on the general public with the push carts as those are stolen also.
I wonder what the reaction from the general public would be if they demanded Dirvers Licence to use there push carts?

My husband and I had a very bad experience on 02/27/2011 around 10:15 pm:

First, on the cashier's screen I found the cashier over charged the Cilantro, I told him that and he adjusted the right price and apologized to me, it is
fine.

Second, after I paid, I re-checked the receipt and found the Onions has been
over charged to $0.78/lb, which is on sale $0.25/lb only. I came back
to the cashier and asked him to adjust the price, but he don't know it is
on sale, then he called the manager, the manager came out and said "yes,
the onions are on sale $0.25/lb", but the cashier said "the system did
not show the on sale price", then the manager inspected my onions for
one minute and said "it is not the on sale item, the on sale item located
next to the Corn", I said "yes, I picked it next to the corn". However,
the manager still said it is not. In order to solve the problem faster
and don't let the other customers are waiting I returned the onions and got the money back.

After that, my husband was very angry with me and said "you returned it
means you agreed yourself made the mistake, all other customers are
waiting for the cashier not happy with you, you did it totally
wrong! You should show the manager where you picked the onions to
verify it is their mistake not your mistake, why don't you do that?"

Yes, I'm so stupid, only consider other people's feeling and not protect
myself. WinCo has CCTV, I may ask the manager to check the CCTV to verify where I picked the onions. I'm sure I picked the right item, because I have been attracted by the smart big ON SALE price lable, the on sale items has been separated from regular price items as usual, it is impossible to pick it wrong. In the past, I haven't check the receipt, don't know they charged it correct or not.

My husband and I are still very unhappy, we may not come back to WinCo
anymore and will tell our friends our experience.

I just called the Winco in reno at the Northtowne Shopping Center to see if the shasta cola was still on sale for .58 cents, and was spoken to on the phone like a child by an employee who called himself Sean. This of course will not stop me from shopping there because i love the prices and product quality. But when I told him I go there every week and was planning to be there to purchase some, he did explain to me that he wouldnt know because he had been off for the last 5 days, and if he would he wouldnt be able to give me the price. And continued to say in a high pitched sarcastic voice that he felt really bad for me. I said i could really tell by the sarcasism in his voice. He went on to say really high pitched and and loud, "no Really I do feel bad for you." Because this got me upset, I came on line to make a complaint. Upon getting online I did see it was a company policy not to give prices over the phone, but the way I was treated by Sean is very upsetting. If this is good customer service maybe I should shop at Save Mart pay the extra price FOR GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. And I would like to ad that with my past experiece with, employees at this perticular location, 2855 Northtowne ln., Reno NV. HAVE NEVER SPOKEN TO ARE TREATED ME IN THE MANNER THAT SEAN HAS AT AROUND 8:46AM.

It doesn't matter where you picked the onions up. A customer before you could have picked your higher priced onions (organic? I don't know) from some other bin, noticed the other onions were on sale and dropped your onion in that spot. That happens all the time in grocery stores and drug stores.

Today in WinCo located at Pomona, CA, at 8:45pm, cashier in lane #4 (named Lisa) snatched from my Wife’s hands a Chinese lucky cookie’s bag and threw it under the cash register (do not know if it was the garbage) just because it did not have any bar code / price. A friend that was accompanying my Wife asked the Cashier if there was a problem and she...

WinCo Foods couldent buy beer. not following ca law

My husband and I had a bad experience at Winco Foods. We just finished our grocery shopping and went to check out. I told the checker we also have a case of Budwieser beer. The checker told us she needs to see all of our I.Ds including our friends I.D who is only 20. Mind u hes not a minor, so we are not responsible for him and neither is the store. We ask him to wait outside to make it easier. We showed her our I.Ds.
Then she told us we couldent purchase the beer cause our friend did not provide I.D and is under 21! First off by California law, only the person purchasing the beer is required to show I.D. secondly what if u had a kid with u and wanted to purchase beer, do they need to see the kids I.D aswell! and then refuse u cause hes a minor!
My husband asked to speak to the supervisor, the checker said" fine but your wrong!" and called the supervisor.
The supervisor said by state law they have to check everyones I.D! WHAT! And its for our protection. Protection from what? We asked, were over 21 and have every right to purchase this beer!
My husband explained to them what state law was, they went silent, then the superviser said "fine then i REFUSE to sell u this beer I dont trust you using it!", " and i can call the police and have them explain it to you clearly!" Well I did't want to be there all night, so we purchased our grocerys, then with an angry vioce my husband said " were never coming here again!" they said fine then dont.
After we left we looked at the recept and noticed they charged us twice for the case of water! My husband said hes not goin in there again for fear he might hit somebody.
We finally went to Safeway to purchase beer for the BBQ, and they did it right they only wanted the I.D of the person buying the beer!
I will never go to any Winco again!

California has no "real" laws. They may be written somewhere, but are not enforced. You don't need licenses or insurance, or registration. The state just recommends it. You can drink, smoke pot, and drive and as long as you don't get pulled over, it's OK. It's California. Not from here, that's OK too. Come on in... sign up for free benefits, and we'll give ya whatever you need. It's Cali, baby... everything is free.

Just to help educate yourself... (couldent..twice!), yet I am not a miracle worker, this is the states requirements regarding alcohol sales:
You must Check photo ID of everyone appearing under age 27 who attempts to purchase FDA regulated products and verify the customer is of legal age to purchase. This is an each-and-every time requirement (even if you know the person to be of legal are.) If you "carded" them yesterday, you must "card" them again today!

in terms of pricing and availability, winco is the best grocery store i've ever had the pleasure of shopping at. i'm sure you're just angry because you didn't get your alcohol. they saw you had an underage friend and didn't want to get themselves in trouble. you really showed us that you don't understand what was going on when you sent your friend outside, as if him physically being there was preventing your purchase from going through. then your big shot husband acted like an attorney and made them straight up refuse your sale. i'm glad winco stood up to you instead of giving you what you wanted because you have the audacity to throw a tantrum, in front of all the other shoppers no doubt. i expected them to just give it to you to get you to shut up. frankly, i wouldn't trust you either and am glad i'll never see you at a winco.

Winco is awful, they promote violence and assault people. And I'm glad I'll never see YOU in Winco...I refuse to set foot there. You must work there because you are rude and snotty. That is part of the job description there. Must be Rude.

Oh, and Stealth Pilot, stores are not liable for adults buying alcohol for minors. Check your facts.

If I was not clear enough in my earlier post, I was the one who did not have and ID. There were no minors involved. I am almost 30. I do not look under 21. I was shopping with my husband of almost 4 years. He had the ID. He was making the purchases because I left everything at home including my debit.

The same thing happened to my husband and I. My husband tried to buy a 6 pack of Blue Moon. The checker was very rude, refused to sell him the beer, and did not offer any explanation. After my husband paid for our groceries and the checker handed him the beer. He jumped in a different line where he then purchased the beer while I bagged the groceries. Being nearly 30 I appreciate the compliment (of looking younger) but I have little tolerance for hassle, rudeness, and excessive/ineffective policies that make shopping feel like a chore. This situation was both ridiculous and laughable. It was nothing more than a waste of time. California law does not prohibit the presence of a minor while purchasing alcohol. It only dictates that minors cannot purchase alcohol. When I asked (hypothetically) if I could buy beer in the presence of my 15 year-old daughter (I don't have children), they said that this was perfectly fine. It looks like we will be shopping at Vons until Winco changes their policy.

I can relate to your situation. Unfortunately, the only way to combat the problem is to write a letter to corporate and refuse to shop at Winco. Give another grocery store your money. I have never had this problem at high end grocery stores and I recognize that Winco does not have a wealthy customer base. The message that I get from Winco is that it should be harder for lower income individuals to purchase alcohol. Class discrimination anybody?

I was a checker at Safeway, and (like Chris said), we were liable if a minor got a hold of alcohol sold from our store. So if there is a group of kids, one of which is over 21, we have the right to ID everyone in the group. Sometimes police officers have sting operations were they send in minors or groups of kids with one over 21, to purchase alcohol. If we sell it to them, they come back and arrest the checker, fine the store and they can take away the store's liquor license. So if a checker gives you problems about buying alcohol, remember, it's their job at stake and they don't want to take any chances. It's not worth selling beer to somebody if that means the checker will loose their job. Give WinCo a break. This situation happens at EVERY store, not just WinCo.

California Law requires all cashiers to sign an affidavit saying they understand the ABC Laws and Requirements. One of those requirements is the knowledge that if a group of persons is purchasing alcohol and it is apparent that some of the parties involved might be under the legal age then the cashier has the duty (and can be fined for infraction) to ask for IDs of all persons.

Very few minors actually attempt to purchase alcohol, usually they get a group together and use the one person who is 21 to get the drinks. The law is written specifically so retailers can refuse to sell in these situations.

That's extremely common. Aside from the issue with the double-charge for water (an easy mistake but one I've never had happen at WinCo), I don't see what your issue was. Making a kid go outside while you buy beer looks fishy. If he's your kid, that's your legal right, and you wouldn't be sending him outside. If he's not your kid, either keep him with you or buy beer another time, but legally, yeah, they can refuse you service.

As for the issue with the employee touching the kid, yeah, that's very wrong. That's a genuine issue. Although I will point out that bulk candy (if it was a sampling issue, it was bulk) is priced by weight, so technically, you couldn't have purchased that candy. So yeah, it was stolen in a technical sense.

my 2 year old daughter was harrased by a winco lancaster employee, he touched her forcefully and accused my little girl of stealing from the company, all becasue she had a piece of candy in her hand. my poor girl started crying and the man then argued with me about no sampling . he had no right to touch my little girl like that. this is sexual harassment. i hope winco management reads this and takes the matter into their hands. the employee works in the bulk foods section, lancaster . the manager did not give me his name. this happened on august 11. 09. employees should not touch customer's children . this is againt the law. my daughter and i were not sampling i was buying candy for her, she was crying so i gave a piece . she should not have been harrassed for it she is too young to know what she is doing. shame on winco and that employee

WinCo Foods racist /rude remarks

Like many others during this rough economic time, I try to save $$$ whenever I can. I have twice had encounters at Winco that made me want to scream! the first was when me and one of my neighbors went in and were met by about 5 nightcrew men all hollering racist jokes and slurs at me and my friend. We ignored them but I was red with anger, I mean, who the hell do these hillbillies think they are? Prodigies of Hitler?
The second time was when I was buying a case of beer after my shift, one of the cashiers made a loud snide remark about how "early" it was and continued joking to other associates. I was shocked that she would drive business away like that. I happily go to Save mart, where all the employees have a code of ethic, and seem more educated, than the Winco counterpart, which tends to be a racist, angery, bullyish-type of employee that enjoys ridiculing customers. Then when you try to complain, the manager is always gone, or doesn't give a shi*.

You get what you pay for I guess...

Filthy dairy storage cases; rude and non-caring attitude, when leaking sour milk brought to the attention of store employees and "supervisor" who said "it happens, " and "no, I'm not going to get the mgr..." upon request. Other dairy products sitting on dirty shelves with several colors and layers of filth and liquids; temperature not cold enough.
