C-Date Could not cancel subscription and also have sent debt agency

I signed up to c.date for a 1 month trial for £1 after spending some time with the website I soon realised that it was a fake dating site and went to cancel and delete my account.

I was unable to cancel my subscription other than with fax.

So I sent them a email requesting for my sub and account to be terminated, as I do not own a fax machine nor do I know how to use one.

I received no response other that more spam emails, I tired to delete my account again but what they don't tell you is that they keep the subscription running even if you delete your account.

I assumed that it was sorted but after a month they charged me £49 I had no confirmation no emails of such a charge.

That is when I blocked payments with Paypal.

It has been more than 6 months and now I have received a letter from a debt collator company from Germany called eCollect stating I owe c.date £194.59.

I have been in touch with the debt collector company but even they have a bad reputation witch makes me even more unsettled.

I recently tried to log into c.date to see if I could do something and I can not even log in I am blocked, I have emailed them again at the email that was on the blocked page and nothing...

I can see by how many others that this is a scam and am going to report this to https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

Also be careful about the debt collators they eCollect does not seem trustworthy.

Desired outcome: For this to all stop and my account at c.date and any fraudulent claim to money to be dropped.

C-Date Cancelled membership but still trying to charge

Reading the reviews on here I should not be surprised that I am experiencing the same problem. I cancelled my subscription a month before it was due to auto renew and received correspondence to say sorry you are leaving. Then on the renewal date they charge my account, which the back have rejected and now I am being chased by their claims department.

I have emailed the address on this complaints board with my issue, but has yet to be resolved. The chase and ignorance of the company when cancelling is ridiculous, they try to bully, harass and cause a lot of people distress, this needs to stop. Someone cancelling should be acted upon. This is no way to run a site and expect people to come back, everyone who has suffered this will avoid in the future.

I just want my cancellation processed, the renewal amount to be removed , profile closed and we can go our separate ways

Desired outcome: I just want my cancellation processed, the renewal amount to be removed , profile closed and we can go our separate ways

C-Date c date

After my bank flagged a suspicious payment for c date a few weeks ago, i looked into it and found that this site is bullying and scamming people for money. i emailed their customer service email address to remove all my details and close the profile using my card, but received a reply saying no fraudulent activity was found. i have since gad payment reminder emails saying i owe money and this will be passed to a debt collection agency. all i want is for my details to be removed from this scam site. i have read from other users on here that you have a 14 day cooling off period, which i believe i emailed within to have the profile removed, yet i am still being threatened. i have reported this to my bank as fraud and they have advised they will report to the police.

Desired outcome: all details removed and no more threatening emails.

I have now emailed the email address you mention in this recent comment. I have not had any acknowledgment my email has been received.

Update by emily222
Apr 10, 2023 4:32 pm EDT

I have already tried emailing, and have only been told no fraudulent activity has been detected on the account.

Under EU regulations I asked for all my details to be removed and the profile taken down within the 14 day cooling off period, which i assume started when the first fraudulent payment was attempted from my account.

It is impossible to get a reply from anyone and all i have received is threatening debt collection emails.

This is absolutely disgusting.

C-Date C-date Membership - Pleasurefk

I opened an account and only used it for less than 2 days having paid my initial fee. The site isn’t for me and cancelled and deleted my account immediately well within the stated 14days.

I am now being chased for outstanding payments which in my opinion are not owed due to cancelling the account and deactivating the profile.

Please confirm my details have been removed and I will no longer receive correspondence.

Thanks

Desired outcome: No further action needed from either side

This law firm keeps asking me for proof of cancelation and I have been sending them all the necessary documentation but they keep coming back to say I have not submitted proof and reasons of the canceled subscription, I did not even use the Be2 service I signed in and canceled within a week and now this bombardment by debt collectors, the amount goes up every single time the email me.

I received a letter stating that I need to pay approximately €500, even though I had already canceled my subscription. Moreover, they continued to charge me for services on another website, despite only having paid for daily or weekly subscriptions instead of a full subscription but even tho the kept on charging me too.

Same happened to me.

I was a subscriber on singles50.no in a short period 2 years ago, and I made sure it was cancelled already before I stopped using it..

1 year ago , they were able to deduct a subscription from the same credit card- Then it was called Be 2 Luxembourg,

Then 2 letters about court case because They say I owe 561.75

Believe me, look for pages about scam and particular this company.

The only good thing that came from Luxembourg, was the old "Radio Luxembourg. Now, a lot of Fraud. Anne

C-Date Closing the account

I opened an account with the dating site only to be inundated with fake profiles. After the realisation I closed the account online to the best of my ability and now I am been threatened by a debt collectors to pay debtor fees. It is impossible to speak to anyone at c. Date as there are no contact details and now the account is closed I cant even see what the conditions were as I thought I had closed it to their conditions. I recently received a letter from a debt collector ecollect demanding a payment of £200.20 stating I had not responded to previous demands (which I had never received) and now stating that as it has not been settled, legal proceedings shall be initiated. This is one big scam and I need it to be settled.

Desired outcome: I would be prepared to pay the additional £46.52, 1 month Promotion as it states on the account statement from e.collect, if this closes the matter

C-Date Scam site - unable to cancel subscription

Subscribed C-date site just to browse during my short stay in UK, however after subscription tried to cancel subscription, did whatever was possible and thought the repeated subscription was cancelled. Also to be on safer side cancel my card. But to my surprise they were still trying to charge me, as got message from bank. Have left UK and they are still harassing for the money which was never utilized by me and threatening to take the matter with debt collectors. Despite sending them for clarification the only response is automated mail. Looking at the reviews it seems I m not the only one and this is how conduct business and cheat everyone by sending them threatening letters and harassing them and citing this is an online contract and is binding, however there is no access to the contract anymore or the profile. I have requested in available mails to them to cancel my subscription however they are sending mail only for claims. They block the profile immediate after the profile for 1st month ended.

C-Date Cease and desist

Dear Complaints Board

I joined C-date last year but quickly realised that it had a lot of fake profits on its site and that the user reviews and ratings on TrustPilot were very poor. I decided to cancel my subscription. But the process is made deliberately difficult. Users are required to give a MINIMUM of 2 weeks notice of cancellation. As I’d only paid for an intitial one month I’d missed the window so was forced to pay for another month through the automatic renewal trick.

I decided to block further renewals via my credit card.
I then started to receive a string of threatening emails from C-date and its lawyers. I attach my most recent correspondence with the companies debt collection agency, which I hope are self explanatory.
I just want these threatened letters to go away and am not prepared to pay £300 to the law firm for an inferior website whose business model and practice seem to border on the fraudulent.

Regards

PH

Dear Mr. Huntington,

In the above-mentioned matter, we refer to your e-mail from 17.01.2023.

Your current line of argumentation lacks any legal substantiation and is in no way related to the claim itself. Note, allegations can not be taken into consideration when discussing the current claim’s validity.

Keep in mind, that you stated to be fully aware of and in full agreeance with the provider's T&C's. Should you have not carefully read your subscription cancellation responsibilities and related opportunities, then this is to be construed solely as personal negligence on your end and it in no way legally impacts the current claim.

As a response to your current argumentation, we wish to firstly refer you to the respective T&C's of the provider which you stated to have fully acknowledged and be in agreement with upon registering and subscribing for the platform. You will clearly note that paid services are exclusively to be cancelled via provision of due notice (see Article 6, Subsection 2).

The Terms and Conditions of the provider contain more than detailed information regarding the contractual relationship, so you cannot claim non-transparency of the platform or misleading information.

While we fully understand that you may be dissatisfied with the services rendered, you are still required to uphold your obligations as pursuant to the agreement entered into with the provider.

The cancellation steps and requirements stated above are based entirely on the legislative frameworks as per Directive 2011/83/EU (Annex 1 (B). Such steps and requirements are laid out within the respective T&Cs, which every user must state agreement with and acknowledgement of when registering and subscribing for the service.

In order to avoid further costs and procedures, we strongly advise you to pay the total amount of GBP 282.07 (EUR 330.20).

Please pay your debt via our Paypage pay. themys-[censored].com by entering your client number, which can be seen in the subject of this E-Mail.

Dear Sirs

Thank you for your letter of 14th inst.

I think it might help your goodselves were I to furnish you with some information about this claim.

The claimant runs a website not UK based which purports to be a dating site. I write “purports” as it has the lowest rating on TrustPilot. Apparently ex clients are very dissatisfied with the service offered.

The site engages in what can only be called “inertia selling”. By this I mean the practice of automatic renewal of a managership, irrespective of a client’s intentions. No reminder is sent prior to a further debit to a registered card.

He/she may cancel a subscription, but this must take place not less than two weeks before the end of the period for which payment has been made. The cancellation process is, naturally, made deliberately difficult.

I regard this payment mechanism as bordering on the fraudulent. I have written several times to the site and its representatives in these terms.

In the circumstances I feel under no financial obligation whatsoever to the site.

I live in England. The courts here have taken a view on the legality of automatic renewal and have regard to what it is reasonable to do in the circumstances.

In brief, a claim for settlement of a purported debt is very unlikely to be sustained in a Court here unless the claimant can show:

1. That it was clear and transparent at the outset that automatic renewal was practised;

2. that the procedure for cancellation was spelled out, and

3. the notice period for cancellation was reasonable.

The vast majority of websites of this nature allow cancellation up to or shortly before the date renewal falls due.

I respectfully suggest that the site fails in all 3 tests.

If any putative action for “debt“ recovery is initiated, I will contest the matter in court. This will involve your client in further unnecessary time and cost.

In addition I will ensure that the case is publicised via social media and press, which will no doubt have reputational consequences for your client’s website.

I believe your client would be well advised to drop this matter.

Yours faithfully

Peter Huntington

C-Date Unauthorised charge and bullied and threatened with debt collect

Subscribed to this app on the 8th of Feb based on a £2.48 promotion only to be charged £9.90. Thinking I had been a victim of a scam immediately cancelled further automatic payments coming out from Pay Pal.

Tried to cancel but there wasn't an option available, thinking this would be the end of if now I am being chased, bullied and threatened to pay for a membership service that lied and overcharged without my authorisation from the start making it impossible to unsubscribe causing me episodes of anxiety with their threats and bullying emails.

If you read this, please avoid this app, you will regret joining it.

C-Date Fee based dating contract

C-date offered me an offer of 75% discount for 1 month’s subscription. I wanted to pay via PayPal and the price was £9.90 which did not include the 75% discount.

I then noticed in c-date’s terms and conditions that I had signed up to automatic payments of £39.90 per month without my knowledge.

I tried cancelling the contract on line as advised by c-date but the wasn’t an option available. I then sent emails to [protected]@c-date.co.uk and [protected]@c-date.com with photos of hand written letters attached (as required by c-date) but both emails were not received. I have cancelled all PayPal payments but I am unable to confirm this with c-date.

Desired outcome: Contract cancellation with no charges

C-Date Unable to cancel. Unauthorised charges.

On 15.11.21 I signed up to c-date £1.99 for a 3 day subscription. There was no information provided that this would be a continuous subscription or that I was committing to a subscription. On entering the site I realised that there were no women in my area and I was bombarded with fake messages. I attempted to cancel and was informed that they would only accept a fax to cancel I tried to delete my account but was unable to I removed all my information and never accessed the site again. There was no email address or any other way to contact them. After the 3 days a payment of £40.93 was taken from my account. I informed my bank and the money was recovered. A few weeks later a second attempt was made to take the money. I cancelled my bank card but as this was a cpa payment they were able to make further attempts to get the money. I eventually closed my account as this was the only way to stop payments. This was then sent to a debt company in Germany who added their own fee and it has now been passed to a legal firm registered in Madagascar who have added their own fee. The bill currently stands at £227. In November 2022 I passed this information th European Consumer Centre ank UK trading standards. On 8.3.23 I received further communication from the he legal firm of Themys & [censored] Rechtsanwalte registered in Germany. My last correspondence was in 7.11.22. Where I made my position clear and informed the company of my actions.

Desired outcome: Stop harassing me for money for a service I have not received.

C-Date Unauthorized charge and frightening with debt collectors

Hi,

Please, could you help me to resolve the problem with C-date site. As it trying to rip off money from by not closing account when they have been informed, and provided with all information required.

When I open the account, as there was no other way to see how it works, without payment, they charged me straight away. I looked at it, did not like, and next day emailed them (as you can't close it by yourself) to close the account (and I have proof of my email), put all details required. By the EU regulations, all money should be returned to customer if he asked to cancel services within two weeks period. I did not ask for any refund, just wanted to close account. I thought it has been closed. Furthermore, I removed them from the PayPal account to prevent any unauthorized payments. As I suspected, they're going to try to charge me for nothing. I can see I had the right feeling about them. And Instead of close the account and return money to me, they kept trying to charge me for premium membership? I don't understand when did I order that premium, if my last action was email with asking to close my acc. So as emails went to a spam, I did not notice any emails, only later one, I found them with frightening to transfer my case to the debt collectors, and I think they did it. As After I contacted them recently, they're ignoring me. Here is the case details:

GB-2023-02-09-[protected]-CDATE-DN

Desired outcome: Confirmation that account is closed, without any future payment and no debt collectors are involved.

C-Date C-Date

I signed up to this site , which was a complete waste of time money and effort . I instantly cancelled my subscription and thought that was the end of the matter . I have received a demand for payment. Subsequent I have paid via iban and now consider this matter to be closed . However this is a very painful process and this type of practice should be outlawed

Desired outcome: Acceptance of cancellation and subscription to my account. No further chargers or communication.

C-Date Cancellation request not followed and additional charges applied

I cancelled my subscription to this on-line service on January 4, 2023 (using the company's cancellation policy - signed copy attached). However, my request for cancellation has not been actioned by the company and my Mastercard has since been charged an additional $197.70AU (on 11 February). Copy of transaction schedule attached for your records.

Desired outcome: Subscription to the service cancelled, my details removed from the web site and the additional charges re-funded to my Mastercard.

I was able to get out of it, I sent proof to both the collection agency and c-date themselves of a screenshot showing me asking to cancel maybe 1 or 2 months after subscribing, I also stated I found this whole situation traumatising and that i felt trapped. I stated clearly that if they were able to show me any legal proof of termination before I make the final payment I would happily pay otherwise I'm too scared to make payment, it took 2 days for a response but they got back to me stating they weren't going to chase me for the money I owe and that they would leave me alone... hope this helps

First, don’t worry. If you’ve not already done so, email C-date to cancel your account. They will try to keep taking money but I ended up closing my bank account. The payment is something called a Continuous Payment Authority. Don’t pay anything. You will get letters from debt collectors who will quickly pass this to a solicitor. This is a scare tactic to get you to pay. They will not take you to court because if they do, they will have to explain how you owe money. When you get the debt collection letter, ignore it. When you get a solicitor letter you should reply. I will attach copies of letters I sent to help you just change the information to fit. You also need to file a complaint with the European consumer centre [protected]. The whole process will feel like a nightmare but don’t worry. Just remember, don’t pay because they can’t collect.
