8/4/25
I was in Valley Hospital from 7/8/-7/16/25 against my will. Miraculously, the staff had no idea of what I was talking about as I ranted and raved to be discharged. At one point, one of the staff made a statement which made me automatically compliant. He stated if I decided to discharge AMA( against medical advice), then they would petition me. I know all about petitions so my compliance became inevitable. Going through my mail when I got home, I had a notice from my insurance stating they had approved a 7 day stay at this facility. Coincidence? I tried every day to be discharged. The only answer I received from the staff was “ I don’t know”. I learned on my own that it was up to the doctor. The doctor would come very early in the morning, buzz in. ask, how you’re feeling, and he was gone. By the time my intake was complete, I had nothing but the clothes on my back.I was held against my will and no one had any answers. I saw my name on the board for D/C on Monday 7/14, but when I asked about my d/c again, I was directed to call a number on the wall next to the client phone. When I called and spoke to a lady, she said “THEY” decided I would discharge on Wednesday, 7/21. When I inquired as to who “THEY” was, I was quickly dismissed as the call ended. I very much wanted to know who “THEY” was but to no avail.
I really would like to get into my main concern as I am diabetic and 2 times/day, staff would set out at least 2 trays at snack time, one stacked on the other, of nothing but sugar. Once in a while, there were a few pieces of fruit but with all of the other patients it was hard to get a piece. My entire stay, they constantly wanted to check my fingers, stick to check my sugar levels. I was informed if my sugar levels reached a certain number, then the staff would be forced to administer insulin. So I spent the next day not eating anything so my numbers would go down. Finally, staff stated they had informed the kitchen of Diabetic status. When I went to breakfast the next morning, I asked what I should do because I am diabetic. Her response was “ the entire area is geared for a diabetic. Everything was sugar, sometimes I would get a banana or two, but there was plenty of sugar available.
The morning I had arrived at their unit at Valley, something had happened to my voice to where I was very hoarse but the only thing I was prescribed for this was one Cepecol cough drop every 2 hours. One morning, I believe it was around 3:30 am, I went to the nurses station to get one of my cough drops, there were 3 nurses and when I asked for a cough drop, they were all bewildered, no idea of who I was. I overheard one of them say, “Is he one of yours?”. 3 nurses, 13 patients, I was able to count them, and no one ‘had’Dallas (my preferred name). “ oh well we have some medications for you and we need to stick your finger.” My reply was almost immediate,” No more finger sticks, as I knew the readings had come way down, and please no more fluid medications as this is upsetting my stomach.”
I feel my entire stay here was unhealthy and unfair. There was no “hold” on me so why my discharge wouldn't happen, absolutely no one had an answer.
I have an appointment this morning with my NP and therapy tomorrow. I still do not completely have my voice back after almost a month
