I absolutely DREADED the new interface as we were warned months in advance it was coming, like the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Finally, today, it arrived. It looks dreadful: boring, bland, "moderne" (a bad French word), and I can't find anything I need without a assembling a search party. I can't tell if I've read a message or not. I'm not sure if they are being grouped by arrival time or some esoteric system. My only reassurance is I'm not paying for this garbage. I'm thinking of switching to Gmail, or set up a Thunderbird account and then having Yahoo! messages sent there from now on. Thanks, Yahoo! for sending me to your competitors. Was that your goal all along? If so, you have succeeded!
Recommendation: Go with Gmail.

Same with me, about 28 years. Software and web developers are some of the stupidest and laziest people in the world. Even Google has a bunch of them working for them. There was no reason for the change.
