In a nutshell, Western Dental is attempting to collect $946 from me through HD Sears Collection Agency, for work they did not do!
• I believe that willful initiative led someone to place what they wanted to do, in my record and someone else came along and perceived it as something that was done!
• According to the 14th-century Scholastic Philosopher William of Ockham “The simplest answer is most often correct.” Known as Occam's Razor.
• The first thing Western Dental did was a single x-ray of my mouth, which was part of the $120 paid by Liberty Insurance, the other part was for an exam.
• The second time I was touched is “laughable” where the dentist came in,
o had me to open my mouth and,
o proceeded to use his finger to examine my gums, the same way you would examine a baby’s gums for new teeth! And that was supposed to constitute an exam! (which was part of the $120 payment from Liberty Insurance)
o the next encounter was the dentist going over my x-rays
Looking back, I remember picking up on a strong “street hustle vibe” from the people at this Western Dental office. The same way you feel when approached on the street by someone who’s only focus is on what they can get from you!
By the way they were behaving I could not shake the overwhelming feeling that they were trying to persuade me to operate outside of the realm of my insurance coverage. So, after the dentist went over my x-rays with me, I politely told him I would get back with them and left.
Summary of event:
Western Dental’s egregious conduct caused them to bypass my instructions to clear everything with my insurance (Liberty) beforehand.
It’s obvious that someone took the initiative to place in my record, what they wanted to do and someone else came along and saw it as what they did do; it’s a common mistake, but that does not excuse it! This fiasco is the result of a serious lack of professional communication within their office. And, the fault lies solely with them; not the insurance company or the patient. The burden of proof lies on them to prove that they provided the service that they are charging for.
At the end of the day, Western Dental has no paper trail to prove they received a denial from Liberty Insurance for the $946 procedure(s) they claim they did. Nor does Western Dental have my signature or anyone witness to my authorizing them to do any $946 procedure(s).
Recommendation: Trust your gut feelings!
