There are so many people complaining about this company they put you through a training course make you work 7 days a week 70 to 75 hour a week and pay less then min wage and how they get away with it. There Scaming people chargeing them for the school and promises to hire them when there course is over they pass all there test. Then let them go in another state leaving them to pick up a bill in which to pay and leading them to believe they have a job to pay for the training they just charged them for with no job and no way to get home this should be against the law. I will buy a web page just to make sure no one else gets riped off from these people again. There are no photo's to prove what there doing you just have to go through there course and find out or have someone investagate to find out what this company is really up too there are people really needing jobs and there is this company out there taking these poor people's money and for what they need a job to pay for the course not a course to get deeper in debt and this company know's how to make money off of poor and desprate people

Screwed me up
Werner *** i drove for them for 1 year i had to take a couple weeks off to take care of my mother after major surgery when i tried to go back they sayd there too slow to take me back so i tried for a couple months to get back so after 3 months i tried applying at other companies i found out they put 2 accidents on my dac report they were both AFTER i stoped driving for werner and they pay like crap i tried to get the back pay because all the trips i turned in they didnt pay for about 20 percent of the last couple months of driving so DONT drive for them
Let me start off with my training and trainer.all my trainer wanted to do was make his money..was out for 300hrs still domt know how to back up.. scared to death ...trainer sucked, o/o dont get stuck wjth a o/o whatever u do..run run run as fast as u can..wont teach you anything . now im driving solo, trying to teach myself to back, im determinded to do this, shame i wasnt taught how.. as u know backing is hard to do, very hard.my nerves are gone, but, i will get better the more i do it.. to sum it all up, what a shame 300hrs training not once shown how to back a rig.. this is not right, what a shame.
ladder hing broke
I have the werner attic steps model 2208 mk2, i was in the attic and as i was coming down the steps the lower left hinger broke causing me to fall, in turn my left leg and lower back is hurting now and my hands a sore from tring to stop the fall. As i called the 1-800 number on the steps to tell them about this they said they would send out a replacement hing. This is a 300 pound ladder and i weight no where near that. i am affraid that this new hing will do the same or that the other side will break too. Now i have now way into my attic and my leg and lower back is hurting and my hands as well. What can be done about this? Contact me with something and where to go from here

oreintation
on may 3, 2010 i attended oreintation for werner enterprises. i took an amtrak from modesto. during the physical i show the doctor 2 medicines that i had taken. he said i needed to go home and have my doctor clear me for driving. werner reimbursed me for my trip there. i told my instructor what the doctor had said. he told me to finish my classes which ended on may 4, 2010. i once again paid for my ticket home. my recruiter joe said to fax my tickets to him and he said i would get my money back. a few days later scott called me and said that he could not hire me. on may 18, 2010 i called scott and he said he would not cover my ticket and as for oreintation i would not get paid for it. i called the california labor board and told them what happened. the labor board said they are obligated to pay me for going to oreintation and the cost of my ticket for coming home. all of you that have gone to a class at werner that were sent home file complaints with your labor boards in your area.
i received my money a few days later.
i submitted the complaint. the date i called scott was may 11, not may 18

Just a bad company
I got hired on as a driver and because I had previous experience I only had to do 70 driving hours with a trainer instead of the normal 300. My trainer was a really nice guy, he taught me how to back better than I already knew how, he taught me tips to reading a map I did not know about, and was an all around good guy. I got the 400 a week just like they said I would.
Then I got my own truck and was told I was on the south regional account. This would mean I would run TX, LA, AR, OK, NM and CO. The very first phone call I had with my dispatcher he told me I would be on the South regional pay account (the longer the trip the less per mile u would make) but due to lack of freight I would be running all 48. Running the whole country meant I would have mostly longer runs. I only made 24 cents a mile on 99 percent of my runs. I would run for 12 days and be home for 48 hours. 48 hours is technically two days but think about it, that means I get home at noon on Friday and leave at noon on Sunday at any other job that means I got Saturday off, but for werner and any other otr truck company that was two days. With that schedule after taxes I would make about 300 dollars a week and end up spending about 100 for food every week.
On my way from Dallas TX to Conway AR I got my tractor stuck in the mud, and my trailer was blocking the road for about 45 mins before I got towed out which took about 3 mins once he got there. Because my trailer blocked the road a police officer gave me a ticket that was called careless and prohibited driving. When I came back from my next home time I tried to get out of the terminal to pick up my first load and they told me I had to go back in and see saftey before I left. They then told me I was fired because of my ticket (I was told one ticket was not enough to get you fired by my trainer and by the person who lead orientation and by my recruiter) I asked why. They said because the ticket was called careless driving. I said so you think its like wreckless driving? They told me it was just like wreckless driving. I called the courthouse and put them on speakerphone this is how the conversation went. ME: Hi I got a ticket down there a couple weeks ago its called careless and prohibited driving is that anything like wreckless driving? COURT LADY: Oh no, wreckless driving is a misdamenor, careless and prohibited is just a traffic ticket, they usually give those if they see someone squeal there tires taking off from a red light or something like that. ME: thank you very much maam. (hang up) The saftey manager then tells me that it doesnt matter it still sounds too close to wreckless driving and Im still fired. All this before I was ever even convicted of the ticket. Being fired was the best thing that could ever happen to me. I got a local truck driving job and am making over twice as much money and Im home every day.
So in conclusion. Werner Sucks

Dear Jim,
Here is an edited copy of a letter written to LV-AIT/Werner truck driving school, today.
Both of you know my husband knows how-to safely drive trucks! He is/was an exemplary AIT student. He is a very alert 71 year old man with a lust for adventure that just won't quit! He does many things much better than most men who are 20+ years younger than he. And, two years ago, he retired from surgical practice after 40 years without one single malpractice complaint. and virtually no reported post-op infections.
My husband showed up at 6:00 am. to the Werner Terminal in San Bernardino as he was told to do on Thursday, February 4, 2016. He was scheduled to take a refresher course. After he waited patiently for 6 hours, he was fired at noon for no apparent reason by Werner Enterprises, Inc. according to a male office staffer at the terminal who, announced in front of 15+/- drivers sitting in the San Bernardino terminal lounge that corporate offices in Omaha, Nebraska fired him--- he was humiliated, handed a one (1) way bus ticket home with no pay but, to his remarkable credit he kept his cool.
I have reviewed all of our records to date including all of our American Institute of Trucking/AIT paperwork and Werner Enterprises, Inc. “Werner” paperwork, alike. In doing so, I have found a multiplicity of issues which are in direct conflict with my husband's Werner employment. I have solid evidence that Werner grossly under-paid him. Fortunately, Title 29 CFR (et. al. etc.) is not mentioned anywhere in any of the paperwork he did sign.
Unfortunately, there are going to be many convoluted and extremely unhappy issues regarding the terms of my husband's Werner employment-payroll for us to resolve. First, let me call to your attention the stack of documents I photo copied for you which my husband gave you when he came in for a voluntary refresher course this week. You told me on the phone you’ve never heard of these documents; so, In case you haven’t had time to review them, I strongly urge you to do-so as soon as possible.
Perhaps you might begin by reviewing the document (front and back) starting on front page, entitled in bold black lettering: STANDARDS OF APPRENTICESHIP DEVELOPED BY WERNER ENTERPRISES, INC. For The Occupation Of Truck Driver, Heavy O*NET/SOC CODE: 53-3032.00 RAPIDS CODE:0980HY APPROVED BY U.S. Department of Labor Office Of Apprenticeship, followed by the Seal of the Department of Labor, United States of America.
This document indicates, once again in bold black lettering: it was Registered as part of the National Apprenticeship Program in accordance With the basic Standards of Apprenticeship established by the Secretary of Labor.
Moreover, the Original Registration of this document, again in bold black lettering was dated April 13, 2006. It was apparently Revised at some undeclared time after April 13, 2006--it does not say when---but, it does state the National Registration Number of this document on April 13, 2006 was: NE00206002 So, it was apparently registered in the State Of Nebraska on April 13, 2006. Thereafter, following the Nebraska registration number (NE00206002) again, in bold black letters are three (3) words: Submitted by: Revised Date: and Approved by: And, finally each of these words are followed by blank lines devoid of two (2) signatures and devoid of one (1) Revised Date.
Now, if you will, feel free to flip through all Pages of this document, : Header Entitled: Standards of Apprenticeship, Pages i, ii, iii, iv: Table of Contents, Forward and Definitions and two (2) un-numbered photo copies: one (1) handwritten note and one (1) envelop in which I received all pages (allegedly) from North Carolina.
I suggest you develop a very clear and concise understanding of the context of this document and the possible ramifications of non-compliance in terms of how these may affect the accreditation of your school- AIT and Werner (3rd party non-affiliate/s?)
Because you didn’t give us any copy of this document, revised or otherwise, late last week was the 1st time we’ve ever seen it---let alone even heard of Title 29 CFR (et. al. etc.) Because you didn’t give us any copy of this document revised or otherwise, we didn’t sign it. Now that we’ve seen it for what it-is, we wouldn’t sign it under any circumstances. Thus, without my husband's signature, so far as we are concerned this document isn’t worth the paper it’s written on!
Sincerely,

ALL LIES/ Inappropiate behavior
Before I was hired, I was told I would be driving in a few States. The first chance I got a run I went as far East as they could possibly get me. Plus, while in training the female staff would call the male employees by sweetie and other such names. I am no-ones sweetie but my wifes. It is hard enough on our families. Who do these woman think they are ? They are not here to take the place of our wifes.

I started there in Nov 0f 2012 as a new driver was put on a truck with a trainer that was more interested in getting in my paints then really training me. after I got off the his truck I logged a compliant with safety. was put in my own truck then in less then a month got fired. for 1/ hit a guard post some damage to trailer but not that much 2/ got stuck in mud.. have spoke to people that did or know of someone that did more damage and still work there so u tell me Y was I fired
Reachable Dispatchers
I started with Werner working a Regional route much to my suprise it is just a ploy to get you to sign on as a regional driver and they keep you driving out of your region. It's cheaper to send a regional driver out of his region since he will only receive .22 per mile, while the driver doing long haul sits in a truck stop for three or four days waiting on a load he can deliver for .40 cpm. I was told that I had to deliver out of my region, I refused and told the dispatch " I do not have to do a D%% thing." I then told him I'm a grown a$$ man and resigned. The payroll clerk also stated that Werner practices this method on regular bases and she does not know why. Dispatchers believe they are not reachable. Untouchables

Terrible experience
I had taken a leave of absence from Werner for personal reasons and I found that I could not return to work. I informed my dispatcher of this and did not return to work.
After a month or so, I started to fill out other applications for other trucking companies and wondered why I was not getting any response at all.
I decided to send for a copy of my DAC report. Well what a surprise to learn that I had two accidents one of which was in Scarborough Canada funny thing is I was never in Canada on the date in question or any other date.
I wonder how many other former drivers for Werner have had similar experiences. This was not the only thing. I was also not paid for layover time. I am sure that Werner is not the only company that does this, however it was the company that I chose to work for. Beware of Werner's lies...

Not sure sure yet, but after reading some of these reports on Werner I have little doubt my truck driving career has been cut short by their vindictive and lying mid level management crew. First home time after going solo my Fleet Manager called on my third day off and left a message on voicemail accusing me of idling my truck while at home and threatened to document it in my file.
Calling back I told him I didn't know how he was getting his information, I hadn't touched it since I parked it 2 days ago. He stated that since calling me he had talked to several other FM's who told him 'there's something going on with the system, several other drivers on home time and the system indicated their trucks were idling too'. But no apology for the threatening phone call.
Came off home time and hop-scotched my way over to Ohio from Oregon, eventually ending up in Maine, NY and NJ for about 10 days. On those 10 days I sat waiting for a load at least 3 days. During one of these no load days I called 'Placements' requesting a transfer to Western Region, if there were openings. Nice Lady indicated there were openings and asked where I was, I stated 'NJ that's why I'm making the request.' She told me to call back when I get to Nebraska.
I stayed out 6 weeks eventually getting home three days later than when I made the request 6 weeks prior. Quallcomm message sent stating I was taking 7 days off. Another voicemail from 'The Fleet Manager From Hell', he told me I was not getting 7 days, I had not earned it and if I did not call back he would have the truck towed. I called him, 1st time he put me on hold, I gave up after waiting 15 minutes, 2nd attempt at calling, on hold 5 minutes before hanging up.
Sent quallcomm msg, I had dental appt. on day 6, also requested he not make anymore threatening calls he's interrupting my time with my family. I also made call to Placements and asked if the Fleet Manager could stop my Transfer, she stated 'no I been working here for 10 years and I've never seen that happen.' She also told me transfer was all set, the nice lady I spoke to first had set it up and all I needed to do was call when I came off home time.
Again Fleet Manager from hell called, this guy was like Jason kept coming back. This time he said if I did not call him on today he would accept that as my resignation. So I, thinking yeh right, you also said you were going to tow the truck and it's still sitting out front. Later I made a call to Placement and stated I was coming off home time tomorrow, I would like the transfer made.
Not so nice lady said to call tomorrow the day I make myself available, they would do it then. Next day came and I called Placements. I was told 'your file states you voluntarily quit you need to talk to FM or Recruiting'. Could not figure why this guy (FM) was making a big deal over this, after all, I spent 6 weeks out (twice the time normally out) and I was not going back to his board, he must be control freak.
Made call to Jason the control freak (FM), told him, 'I will drive truck to Portland and turn it in' he stated 'that's fine'. Cleaned it out that day and was going to drive it up the next morning when my wife could follow me and give me a ride home, I knew Werner would not. Phone rings about 8am, guy on other end asked if this was the Werner driver with the company truck. I said yes it is why? He was told to tow it to Portland.
I told him Werner was getting a little ###, also said I will drive it up because if he tows it, Werner will put it on my DAC I had abandoned it, he said one word, 'correct'. Well, tried starting it and guess what 'dead battery' it had dead battery when they assigned it to me, and again after my first home time. Called Tow Trk guy, told him it had dead battery, he called Portland. They were going to let me drive it up, but since it had a dead battery, they told him to tow it. He showed as I waited by the truck, gave him the keys, he hooked it up and left. I knew this was going to haunt me.
I have since filled out an application for another carrier, much smaller than Werner, no accidents, no tickets, no felony convictions every thing looks good, so they said. Starting orientation on Monday they will call me on Friday. Friday came no call, I called twice and left msgs for my recruiter, still no call. I figure it's in the DAC, something Werner wrote. I will request a copy of DAC and see for myself. Moral of story is never believe what any company reps tell you, they all lie. Time will tell, maybe he unwittingly did me a favor!
Upon further review, our Safety Dept has indeed tracked you via Qualcomm on the day in question into Canada. There is also a witness involved. You are the typical loser driver who did more complaining and whinning than driving. The DAC report is more accurate than you are admitting too here. It's very easy for any driver to post a report here, but it's most diifficult to argue against facts. Grow up and take what you deserve...*, %k8ng whiner.
:-))
i think itz a good company becuz the dm we had was excellent the pay was alright i made 368-319 a wk, i have no complaints on them yet.i knw they have to do their job so im gonna c wat happens when the police report comes in...hope i dnt get fired from werner for weather an road conditions
i had a good trainer until i had a slide-off on i-84 in oregan, mm#326.then i was suspended for 20 dys which im still on ...
Here's how you beat this. I've been reading this about trucking companies over and over again, and my uncle who is an attorney for over 20 years told me how to deal with it if they ever pull this [censor] on me.
What they are doing is called "slander" and "defamation of character".
The problem is, no one really hits these companies where it hurts. You find a good lawyer (yes this is going to cost, but in the end it will pay out, here's why)
Keep a record of every truck driving job you applied for that you met their minimum requirements and then never called you back. If you have something that is false on your DAC (like an accident, or truck abandonment etc), then you know what the problem is and it will stand up in court. For every company that turned you down, add up the estimated salary that each truck Co. advertises to it's starting drivers. Let's say 3 companies that would have otherwise hired you, were saying you'd make $36, 000 per year. 3x $36, 000 = $108, 000. You could also conceivably tack on another $50, 000 for mental anguish (economic hardship, loans you may have had to take out because not being employed etc). This totals $158, 000. That's what you will be suing for, because that is the provable earning potential the false DAC report from Trucking-Co. X, screwed you out of. It's not a fortune, but it's enough to buy you some time to get your DAC fixed and pay the bills for a year or more, until you get back on your feet.
If just 2 or 3 drivers did this, within a month's time, a class action lawsuit would result, costing these companies hundreds of millions of dollars, in case after case, judgement after judgement, made against them in a court of law. And I promise you, by the time Uncle Sam's Judicial Branch is down with their [censor], they will either fly straight or they will shutdown. Either way, you can fight these [censor], you just gotta know how, and be willing to do it.
Hope this is helpful to someone. Just remember, there is strength in numbers, and money talks. Hit em where it hurts fellow truckers. This is the US of A. We are what keeps this country running. And when it comes down to it, these companies don't really carer about our families, our jobs, and our abilities to sustain livelihood. So, we've got to take care of it ourselves, and sometimes that means kicking a little [censor].
Peace, and safe driving!
I have been trying to get back into trucking after trying something else for five years. The last trucking company I worked for was Werner and i just got a copy of my DAC today I quite them in Jan. 2004 now I know why I can't get a call back from any where I apply for a driving job. They put on my DAC that I was discharged becuse I had 4 accident/ incident on my record, It says " Equipment was involved in or act that produced death, property damage of any type, or resulted in the equipment reuiring a tow ( other than mechanical breakdown) while assigned to the driver regardless of fualt). None of this is true! if they could keep their trucks running it never would have needed a tow. How can they get away with making up crap like this and get away with it? I think we should all get toghter and fight them.
Hi Gordon,
>Well, tried starting it and guess what 'dead battery' it had dead >battery when they assigned it to. Called Tow Trk guy, told him it >had dead battery, he called Portland.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Sounds like Werner put you in a pickle. I think Werner can deactivate (turn-off) the truck using a QualComm code. Naturally, Werner will claim it's a dead battery.
Previously, you might have experienced bugs in the system.
>'there's something going on with the system, several other drivers >on home time and the system indicated their trucks were idling too'
Another strange error you experienced. Sounds like Werner was using your trucks for some kind of programming test. I'm glad you left Werner. Put simply, Werner was tightening the rope around your neck.
Terrible experience
I worked for werner in 2006, This was the worst experience I ever had. My first trainer was a female, she would go to the bathroom in the truck in a garbage can then tie the bag up and put it on the floor. Sometimes she would have 4 or 5 bags of urine in the truck. I called and said I wanted off this truck but they said I had to wait till our load was delivered.
When I was told that I waited till she went to sleep then drove myself out of route and went to the terminal. Then I had a guy trainer and he never taught me how to do anything, He would go home every weekend and I would have to stay in a motel. I missed christmas and new years with my family. I was with a trainer for 2 months until I finally got done. After that I got my truck which was junk and my first load. They said to follow the directions they sent me. I did and it took me 5 hours to go 50 miles. I really think they were messing with me cause I was new. Well they did fire me cause I sent in to get payment for a lumper to unload my truck and they said I wasn't suppose to do that. They approved it and everything but said I was stealing there money and I knew what I was doing. I still don't understand what it was I did wrong but getting fired from this company was the best thing that happed to me. I now work for a good company and get payed good and have a nice truck with my name on it. I don't think anyone should work for this company. They would hire anyone even if they don't know how to drive these trucks. there just a really bad company. I could go on and on about things that happened to me with this company. Just stay away from them!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
After graduating truck driving school, I found myself wanting to work for a company that would show its new driver the ropes of the road. I choose werner due to the fact that it was one of the only companies that would do that. When i get to colorado, go through the orientation class, I finally meet my trainer who was bad ### btw...After my 300 hours, i get dropped off in phoenix az, where i pick up my own truck and head out solo.
After a couple of months on the road, i announce to my dispatcher im having brake problems in which he routed me to the nearest repair center. They change the pads and send me on my way. get to the hi-way and im still having problems. So now im calling my dispatcher and he tells me to pull over and disconnect the ABS plug and continue. So now im pulled over to the side of the road as far as i can go, hazards on, triangles out, and im underneath the truck searching for this plug. I get out from under the trailer, walk about 9 steps, and BAM...a car slams into me from behind doing 70. The lady is alive and screaming, I'm motionless, and there is a great Samaritan helping me put out the flames on her vehicle. After everything was said and done, she gets taken by and ambulance, im still shaking and now i have to detach my rig so that they could take the trailer to the yard. Now that's done and now i still gotta drive to the nearest rest stop, pick up a load and head to Dallas. When i get to Dallas, im told that the supervisor wants to see me. I go to his office and to my surprise i get canned. The reason-I pulled over to the side of the road violating safety precautions set forth by Werner...
Discrimination. And harrasment I developed a blood clout and had to wait for 3 days before I was taken to the hospital. Was a student trainee.
I feel that trucking companies can do pretty much what they want to do regarding drivers.
I resigned with Werner recently, and when I tried to hand in my resignation, I was told to mail it to a P.O. Box to their Corporate office in Nebraska.
While the resignation was going through the mail, I decided to ask one of my prospective employers to run a DAC on me, to make sure this company wouldn't say they terminated me. Guess what? They stated on the DAC report that they terminated me. Why?
I had a couple of minor incidents, which were NON-CHARGEABLE. No ticket, no police report, no problem, right? WRONG!
Now I am trying to get on with a few of the companies I am interested in, and I am BLOCKED. Was this what they wanted to do?
I would never have left had they paid me a descent cpm. I was making .26cpm, received a penny raise, after working with them for 9 months! I drove solo and never received the miles that would have made me a descent check, this being the reason I resigned.
Best Trucking Company I ever worked for. I was well trained, had good loads, great directions, good pay and benefits. Computerized logging a bonus. A really good professional outfit.
Scamming
During hard times my fiance decided to go to a private truck driving school. Needing a job as quickly as possible and being brainwashed into thinking this was a great company, he signed on. Leaving one week after the birth of our second daughter. Having been told that the 275 hours of training was the most but that there drivers were the best trained in the business isnt going to be a lie after all. So after he starts driving as a team with his trainer he comes to find out that the trainer hadnt been logging out and that he was finshing his trainers hours for that day. So he was screwing him on hours. He tells his manager that he wants to be home by Thanksgiving, which was early on in the training, he shouldnt have done that. All of a sudden a week before hes supposed to be done his trainer comes up sick and has to stay in the hospital for 2 days. Wanting to be home for the holiday and seeing his kids a three year old and the other who is now over 2 monthes old, and being home for my dieing mothers benefit he decides to come home with only 10 hours left of training. While out doing the training he hears from other truckers not employed by them that the government pays them $10.000 per student. They try to keep you in training as long as they can and when it time to be done or you start throwing a fit they start trying to get you into a truck. Well some people are not being called back after waiting for a truck or sitting at terminals for months at a time. So at this point it is time for him to call his FM and tell them what day hell need a ticket so he can return. His FM tells him to call back there so many people working for them they have to schedule him to come back. Werner is just hiring people to make money and hiring tons of hardworking people who need jobs to support there family and screwing them over. We have yet to hear today when he goes back. This company needs to be exposed for all their wrongs!
Snitch on Werner
Werner enterprises prays on the innocent and unwary by using deceptive and unethical hiring practices that lure new drivers in with promises of .36 cents a mile and/or $1000.00 a week, brand new trucks etc. By the time the new driver figures out he has been lied to and will only make .24 cents a mile (An industry low) he is firmly caught in the Werner Web of Destruction and must stay at least a year to establish a work history. It is a universal red flag in the trucking industry if one quits the first job after truck school shortly after hiring on, even if they are running from the Werner Spider. In order to gather inside details on this scam, a 24 hour National Snitch On Werner Hotline has been instituted at [protected] or visit holyflyingmonkeys.com/#snitch_on_werner
for details. Together we CAN make a difference.

A former driver for Werner Enterprises has retained my law firm (Law Offices of James M. Sitkin) and the Oakland, CA law firm of Goldstein, Borgen, Dardarian & Ho to investigate whether Werner has paid drivers all lawful wages required by the California Labor Code. Our investigation is evaluating information about pay practices for work performed by Werner drivers in California during the last four years (whether the driver was a resident of California or not). As part of our investigation, we would like to talk with current and former Werner drivers about their work experiences at Werner in California. This is not an offer to represent you or other Werner drivers. However, our investigation of potential class action claims could benefit from any information Werner drivers may provide to us as part of this ongoing investigation. Please phone or email me if you would like to talk. I look forward to hearing from you.

I guess I'm the exception to the hard luck stories here...I drove for Werner 9 1/2 years and racked up nearly 1 million miles before the tanking economy and health problems forced me to leave in 2009...I had several dispatchers during my tenure and had good relationships with them better than 90% of the time...I was never promised any exorbitant pay per mile or miles per week, I just drove solo and had a great time doing so...My starting pay was $0.22/mile and when I left it was $0.33/mile...I averaged 2500 miles per week...and got nice longevity and yearly mileage bonuses...So I think it is a question of expectations, communication (even when you screw up--and I know I did plenty of times), performance and attitude that determines how well a driver is going to do with ANY carrier, not what the driver recruiter says on the phone to get you behind the wheel of their trucks...
Dispatchers
My husband went to work for Werner. He had to take a refresher course and go out with a trainer for 4 weeks. He got to go with his trainer about 2 weeks after his orientation was finished. Werner did not have any trainers available until then. He met his trainer, got to go with him in the company truck and get his trainer's wife out of jail for prostitution and spend time taking care of his personal problems instead of training. He finally gets his own truck and, lo and behold, they asked him if he would like to run a dedicated division, he would receive $800.00 weekly as long as he ran what the wanted him to do. That sounded great, until 5 weeks passed and he was still getting paid miles. That meant when he received his last paycheck from Werner while he was still on the dedicated fleet, they didn't pay him for his time. It took them until the end of those 5 week to get his pay straightened out, and even then Werner ended up robbing him of 2 weeks of pay.
He was able to come home, and to get him home he had to run a dry load to the Florida coast, and it did not deliver until within 2 days of his home time. He had called his dispatcher and asked him, since the load delivered on one of his days off, could he have his one more day off since he would be gone all of the day on his day off? His dispatcher told him that would be fine. He gets a rude call on that Thursday asking him where in hell was he, this man just screaming at the top of his lungs! My husband said that he had cleared it with Frank and asked if he could he speak to him. Clint or Clem (I'm not sure on the exact name) told him Frank was gone and he was his dispatcher now. He gave him his load assignment and was on his way.
He picked up the load and got ready to roll, and over the qualcomm (the satellite communication drivers use to keep their records and whatnot) he is told to take his trailer over to Jacksonville, Florida, and drop it. They also said he was no longer on the dedicated fleet anymore. They knew he would be late since he had to drop off the trailer and get up there. He made it to Georgia (where they told him he was to head to), and the the company was closed. Now he had to wait until morning to get it. He got the load the next morning, has to only take it a few miles, and to his surprise they refuse it because it is late and he would have to call and reschedule. He gets a reschedule date of 6 days later. They left him sitting for 6 days, and that was the final straw.
He called his dispatch, told them to get this load off him, and head him back to Florida. He was done! When he got back he was hired by a great company, Stevens Transport, and they are grateful for having an experienced driver. Werner was never courteous to me on the phone, when I was just asking general questions on insurance or for any sort of helpful information. To my disbelief, a few weeks later a card from Werner arrived in the mail asking him to come back. My only reaction was, is this some kind of joke?
I've been driving with a CDL since '95. Now, why in the world would I get in a truck with a trainer who has 30 days experience? That's right, you can become a trainer after 30 days with England. It's called a phase 1 trainer. Do you really think a seasoned pro is going to sleep alright with that kind of a driver at the wheel, just because he took an in-town job for 4 years, and now doesn't meet their criteria to drive over the road? And what about the motoring public? Quite frankly Mr. Maine Trucker, if you have to spoon feed someone to get them to treat you right, you are probably with the wrong group of people. I am a trucker. I am a professional, I'm told this by the company, law enforcement, (especially if anything goes wrong), and the DMV. Yet when it comes to the trucking company not getting their way, they will starve you out. They hold the loads and the dispatch of those loads over the drivers heads. At best, not having a level playing field for dispatched loads is unfair business practices, not to mention the, " If you lease a truck you will get higher priority on the loads dispatched" leasing program. Is this practice used by the trucking company "professional?" Where is the company's responsibility to be "professional?" If not to the motoring public, to all their drivers. In this area, they lack.
When a driver refuses a load, or has a problem with a load, this is what happens and why they sit. Each driver manger has about 100 drivers. When a refusal happens, or the business is closed and the delivery cannot be made, that driver goes to the bottom of the list. That means that all 99 drivers above him are dispatched until he comes to the top again, usually in 2 to 3 days. Along with his name, comes his last problem. He is deemed unreliable, and the driver manger looks for some table scraps to give him, where the load prioirty is not as high or as time sensitive. The paycheck for that week is shot, mama at home gets no money, and the driver wants to quit and go somewhere else to work.
With England, Werner, and Swift, company drivers get the table scraps. All the good loads with long miles go to the people that joined their lease program and leased a truck. The company driver 's are only used for the short, multi-drop loads, that people with a big truck payment and the five insurances they have to maintain financially every week do not want. (Would you want that $800.00 payment staring you in the face every week in this economy?)
With the company's blessing, they use the "company drivers" for those "short hop" deliveries, and hope they quit so they don't have to listen to their complaints. They prostitute the "trainees" coming out of their schools and drive them into the ground, paying them $63.00 per day, with few showers. The trucking company wants their freight to move the fastest and cheapest way it can. There is just something fundamentally wrong with the trainer sleeping, and getting the lions share of the wages that that truck is making, with the trainee slaving away at the wheel, making everyone else money but his own family. The trainee should be paid mileage from the start. Any driver who turns a wheel should be paid mileage, period.
The best thing you as a driver can do, or as a driver's signifcant other, is to report them to The Labor Board in your State, and /or, The Labor Board in the State the home terminal for that company is in. Also, the Attorney General's Office in the home state of the main terminal, for those of you who are owed money. It could be anything from a paycheck, to a shortage or overcharge from a lease, or any other kind of financial dispute. Yes, you are an employee. But you are a consumer as well. Let's face it. Until we band together, (something we are notorious for not doing), and sit down and plunk away at these keys, it will never change, and more people will get sucked in to these "unfair business practices." If you are a driver making a living, get your significant other to sit and plunk. I'm sure her story, as being the one trying to pay all those bills and feed the kids with that reduced paycheck at the end of the week, can relay how it really is. I was going to go to Werner, now I'm not. Thank you for your input. This is really a sad testament to what this industry has become. Shameful.
hey I got news for you maine Trucker thats not what they advertise or even tell you they make it sound like you want to work for a bunch of [censor] like them first trainer like boys and dogs and next trainer like prostitutes and the next was just nut's wow yea like really. It's a game for that Fup Company to play with peoples lives there the worst companyu and if I have anything to do with it they will go down on the totum pole as a Scam scam scam because they are a scaming company
Any one out there wanting to work for Swift Werner or England they all have very bad names there working for no one but to make them richer and you poorer they have given the trucking a bad Name. Now why in the world would anyone go out on the road to get there stuff where it need's to be and spend your pay check to be out there to make it happen to make sure these company's make lot of money. They need to pay for fuel and food for these Truckers there makin a lot a lot of money. In most cases with there training program as they call it you can't even pay your own bill it BS These 3 Company are not worth the 320.00 a week they are the worst Ingland will let you go and you are stuck and Werner is just as bad and when I saw the aid with Swift if they have anything to do with Werner that's a bad sign and with a name like Werner there pretty much warnin ya stay away for those companys. This is how they make there money buy there so called training program take it from me I've seen it. It's a Scam Scam SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM
That's the breaks, unfortunately they ALL do that ... the starter carriers that is. With any of them you have to establish a reputation ... and not one of I'll do anything (###), but one of intelligence. What I have done in those six day situations is gently suggest to the dispatcher that since I am waiting around for six days is there anything nearby that I could handle for him/her that would get me back in the area in six days. (Sometimes you have to spoon feed these guys). In six days, from GA, you could get to Chicago and Back ... NY ... etc. There's usually something they're overlooking.
Once you have 1 to 2 years experience with the "bottom feeders", you can trade up to a better more elite company ... just like most any other skill based industry.
Just my 2 cents.

Make that STRONGLY AGREE. My husband has been out 6 weeks straight and only averaging $200/ weekly. what a friggin' joke!
Thank you I was going to drive for them, but not any more, thank you again
No recognition following termination
After driving for over 8 years. Training, 100 percent on time and safety, no accidents no tickets. My employment was terminated. Wrongly terminated in my opinion. And obviously in the opinion of others because I have companies fighting for me to drive for them. Werner has Informed me that I will not be receiving the backdated safety awards that I earned. Its not my fault they take a year to recognize driver achievements, but, apparently it will be my loss!
Thanks again Werner..., for caring!
I want to drive truck but some of these stories scare me. What is the real truth out there can someone help me?
Werner Cares. WE Care. What a load of S#!+ Worst job I ever had. Check out this site on Werner. www.holyflyingmonkeys.com they document a lot of Werner shenanigans. I dont think the guy drove for very long but he is right.

I was a truck driver with Werner, 1yr ago I went to San Antonio TX, for a drop, I left the truck in a rest area because my time was up for the day, when I came back for the truck it was gone, Werner took the truck, without notifying me I call them they said they dint know anything about it, now I cant get a job with no other truck company, cause they have me like I stole the truck, when I was the one who called the state trooper and reported call Werner they lie to me.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Stayed out 8 weeks
First of all my training lasted 17 weeks and had 4 different trainers due to loa and disgruntled employees but cant say enough about my final trainer he was awsome! Anyway i was canned (blessing in disguise) for driving my truck home after 8 weeks out straihght without any reset of hours that means i had worked 56 days without a day off! And my fm had known about my home time since may 18 that i was going home. I had told my FM that i needed to be home on thurs AM so what happens? My know it all (einstein) FM tells me im not going home! These guys (FMs) get to go home every day to see their families and can care a less about the drivers! I have a 3 yr old boy who always asks his mom where his dad is! Get a clue all of you FMs we have a life too!
Would you please encourage your drivers to not park in the fuel island while they shower. Truck 83809 in Clarksville Arkansas must have missed that in his training. I don't discourage good hygiene but while you park blocking a fuel island up is not courteous
