I have been staying at The STRAT for over 40 years, and unfortunately, my recent experiences have left me extremely disappointed.
On a previous visit, I had issues with my deposit being returned. I was told by management that I “wasn’t charged enough” and that it was a mistake on their end — but that didn’t change the outcome for me. Since I live four states away, it’s difficult to resolve these issues, especially when no clear paper receipts are provided to confirm charges and payments.
During this most recent stay, I booked using my rewards card and confirmed there would be no resort fees. I agreed to the rate and understood there would be a $300 deposit for incidentals. Check-in went smoothly, even with a very late arrival, and everything seemed fine at first.
However, the next morning I discovered an unexpected extra charge on my bank account. When I spoke with management, they admitted the charge should not have been applied. Instead of simply correcting the pending charge, they processed additional transactions that resulted in over $900 being withdrawn from my account due to their mistake. This caused my bank account to go negative while I was in Las Vegas, leaving me without access to my funds.
I was offered a $25 card and told the funds would be released “as soon as possible,” but that it could take anywhere from two days to a week depending on the bank. Being stuck out of state with no accessible money because of an internal billing error was incredibly stressful and unacceptable.
Not to mention that things I had to pay for an upgrade and the upgrade cause the coffee pot didn’t work. The refrigerator wasn’t working the toilet didn’t work. It was very just overall disappointing and I’m sad. I’m stuck here.
After decades of loyalty, I am deeply disappointed in how these recurring billing issues have been handled. Sadly, this experience may be the reason I end my long-standing relationship with this hotel.
Recommendation: Get paper receipts and check everyday
