Stouffer's review: Stouffer’s should be ashamed of itself.

Calling their shepherds pie a “pie meal” is a lie. The description says it is beef, carrots, corn and gravy covered by mashed potatoes. The picture on the box backs up that fantasy.

I received a couple of tablespoons of very finely ground beef mixed with a few kernels of corn - maybe one kernel per bite? - and there weren’t many bites. I couldn’t detect any carrots at all. There was about two ice cream scoops of runny mashed potatoes on top of that, and the whole thing was smothered in a weak, thin gravy. There was enough gravy so that, when frozen, there was the illusion that the little cardboard tray might have been about half full. The taste was barely mediocre. The weak gravy overrode everything.

This was not a pie and nothing close to a meal. In fact, I felt like I had barely eaten anything at all. I’m a woman, too. If you’re a man reading this, you’re definitely going to be left hungry.

Now, I’m a senior citizen and have come to depend on frozen meals when I lack the energy or will to make a dinner for one, along with the accompanying washing up and all. A barely edible, very light snack doesn’t work for me.

It’s been a long time since I tried this particular product, but I’ve been loyal Stouffer’s for decades. That loyalty has been shaken. This “meal” was definitely inadequate in all possible ways. I won’t be buying it again and will approach future purchases of other meals with caution.
