08/19/2024 - Ordered Catnapper Recliner from Slumberland in Wichita, Ks - Store did not have one in stock, resulting in ordering, paying $1146.47 cash (Debit). This is more than we have ever paid for a piece of livingroom furniture, so we were expecting very good quaity.
10/02/2024 - Recliner was delivered & setup by employees, within a week, we noticed the right arm (facing the recliner) had begun to collapse, seperating from the back & seat of the recliner & called Slumberland Service Center,
10/23/224 - First time technician came to our house to "fix" the recliner, examined recliner, took pictures, told us arm, back & seat just needed to be fluffed up & proceeded to fluff them. This did appear to hide the damage, but separation returned as soon as we sat in the chair,.
11/20/2024 - Second time the same technician came to fix the recliner. He again looked at the chair, ordered some parts to be sent to our home, told us damage was cause by leaning on the arm & to call when we received the parts. We replied that we did not agree that damage was from leaning on the arm while sitting in the chair, but that it felt like there is no structure to hold the arm in place, only stuffing,
01/13/2025 - I called Slumberland to inquire about the parts as we had heard nothing,
02/13/2025 - We had received the parts & the same technician came for the third time to fix the recliner. Discovered that the only part sent was fabric fir the arm. Tech fluffed up the area again & re-ordered the parts,
08/13/2025 - Same technician came for the fourth time to fix the recliner. The parts sent consisted of fabric & stuffing for the arm, Tech installed the parts, fluffed the area & left, claiming the recliner was fix.
08/13/2025 - Later that day, I called Slumberland to request a refund because almost a year & four visits by the tech was enough, because the damage was not fixed but worse than ever, Customer Service told me that the manufacturing warranty nor Slumberland would cover this because the technician claimed that the damage was customer caused. I waited on hold to talk to Customer Service Corporate, whoi told me the same thing. I reminded them that the damage was discovered less than 3 weeks after delivery, & tech could not fix it & that I was not going to let this go until I got satification. I then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau who was told the same thing, except that they would hire a different "independent" technician (but from the same company they always use for techs) for a second opinion. I rejected that solution because I know we did not cause this damage, we think the chair was not assembled correctly to begin with
Claimed loss: $1146.47 plus the resulting uncomfortable chair has not helped at all in my recovery from two knee replacements, four back surgeries & a stroke, which were the very reasons we thought the catnapper would be perfect for us
Desired outcome: Total refund, Slumberland to pick it up. I thought they were a reputable company that stood behind the quality of the products they sell.
