On the evening of Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, my husband and I took our three (3) children to Skyzone in Columbia, MD. We have a membership. Our time frame was about 6:30-8pm. Upon arrival and until the end, everything went well. It was not very crowded. I told my husband, as we approached 7:30pm, that we should round up the children to leave. They typically stick together. But, the girls ran off and left my son alone. He is 10 years old, so no big deal. At least we thought. At about 7:38pm, my son ran back to us crying. He told us the story.

A boy his size, though likely a year younger or so, was bullying him into giving him a ball that my son was using in the dodgeball area. My son told him to "get a life," which I don't condone, but the boy told him he was not good at playing soccer. A verbal confrontation is all. Then the boy started pushing my son, and he pushed back in self-defense. Then, the boy pulled my son to the ground, got on top of him, and started wailing his fists on him. He was punched multiple times in the face, head, and neck. He has a slight bruise under one eye, and a bruise on his neck.

We complained to management about this situation. The boy's parents were not present, as he was attending a birthday party and just dropped off. Another mother at the party tried to intervene on his behalf. At the end, the boy told the truth about what happened, and apologized.

Skyzone apparently viewed the video, and saw the two boys "fighting," though disregarded the fact that my son was defending himself. The child should have been suspended from attending Skyzone, at least for a period. Nothing was done, and the facility did NOT have staff onsite to help my son. No one was in that area watching, or any other area for that matter.

We are so upset, and cancelled our membership. We will not return.

Claimed loss: See below.

Desired outcome: An apology. Perhaps reimbursement for our membership dues. A promise that you will put staff members at all stations, even if we will not be there to see it.
