I have several of the Ryobi 18v line of tools and for the most part I love them. Except, for the grass trimmer. If I can give this tool a -10 score that would be gracious. I have to stop to recoil the strip every 30 seconds. I spend more time fixing the string than I do trimming my yard. Something is serious wrong with the mechanism that keeps the string coiled to the spool. When I remove the cap to see that the string is completely uncoiled I lose my mind that I have to recoil it 10 to 15 times I trim my lawn. Horrible tool. I'm buying a B&D grass hog again. Never had these issues with that tool.
Recommendation: Don't buy this tool
Wow. This sums up my experience to the tee! A complete waste of money. Their grass trimmer is not the first Ryobi product I've purchased, but it is going to be the last. The string won't advance because the spool gets so hot that the string "melts" onto it. See pic attached. I tried to upload an additional pic of how beat up it looks after just 4 uses on a normal suburban sized lot but it wouldn't allow me to load the pic. Lucky if we get 10 uses.
