I traveled from Rome to Skiathos, Greece, in August 2026. Along with my ticket, I purchased a 30-euros to take a suitcase into the cabin. I had no issues taking the suitcase into the cabin on the flight from Rome to Skiathos. The flight was on time; everything went very well.

However, on the return flight from Skiathos to Rome, I was told I had to pay 75 euros because the suitcase (on the very same type of plane) wouldn't fit. I explained the manager (Stefania Armamentou) that I had already paid 30 euros to take my suitcase into the cabin just as I did in Rome. She said she didn't "care" about my trip from Rome to Skiathos, that this trip was from Skiathos to Rome and that I must pay an additional 75 euros.

You feel you are being treated unfairly, but you have no choice but to pay to board the plane—which was waiting outside, since Skiathos Airport is very small—while other passengers lined up behind me. It is a perfect way to make extra money by taking advantage of people's need to get back home.
It seems this is standard practice for Ryanair in Skiathos, so they did not "care".
It was very frustrating: the flight cost me 248.59 euros, plus 30 euros for the suitcase, and then another additional 75 euros for that same suitcase on my return flight. Their slogan is "low fares, great care" but I ended up paying a total of 383.59 euros.
What felt most unfair was seeing other passengers on the plane with suitcases just like mine—and huge backpacks that were much larger than my suitcase.
It seems they randomly select certain passengers to regain the discount applied to their so-called "low fares".

Recommendation: If you really want to take advantage of these "low fares", my recommendation is to bring a backpack into the cabin and skip buying seat assignments, extra luggage, or priority boarding—none of that is worth it!
