I went online and paid for a storage located In Duncanville Texas on Cedar Ridge Rd. I get to the location on Friday evening after work to only discover I was not able to get the gate open because of a code I was sent wasn’t working, so I called into a number I found online and the young woman I thought was being honest but soon learned she was lying to me...

She said no, and they charge me $1 for March & the $26 for April she charge to my card $54.44 total because I have a $5.00 dollar discount if I pay whit my debit card, but on April they send me and E-mail saying I’m past due on the unit! When I call Amanda to tell her that I pay her for the month of March & April she get really mad and told me I didn’t pay for April! She said I pay for March! And a charge of $20 for the lock! And on the day I check in she never ever mention a fee for the lock that’s redicules paying $20 for a lock! If she shoud tell me that it was a $20 dollar fee for the lock? I will walk away from there, and I check in on Feb 28 how that makes twoo month’s? It was the End of the month! And They charge me $54.44 on feb 28 it make no sence at all! feb only got 28 days and I pay that day and they said I pay for feb not for March! When I contact the chat line they are worst on information! And that it was 1dollar for the fist month of feb+$29 fee $ 20 for the lock! That’s a total of $50 Dollars not $54.44 So now they are charging me for the month of March & April & May and fees! This place are tiffs! I don’t know what to do? I call Amanda back and she get mad and hang up the phone on me! And I call to theyre 1800 # and sending messages and no body seems to care about my complain! I don’t know what to do? Just call bussines & bureau is all I can think of, They can even check they’re cameras and see She even ask me if I want to pay for the months of April, And they can see on same day she was bean so abusive whit another costumer same day I check in! I shoud see that! And is not even the end of the month of April and they are charging me for May? So it was that lady name Amanda Fault not mine so they need to stop charching me late fees and rent for April or May cause we are not even on May jet! Ridicules! And now they are charging me$104.00 For what? April is not even the End of April! Please do something or I will make a claim at better bussines and bureau and I will do what ever if they don’t do anything about it and I’m out I don’t need storage for May! So why they’re are charching me for May? if we still on April? They said I owe $104 not even know for what if the unit is $26 a month? Hope they do something about this matter and please check the cameras on Feb 28 at 12:00 pm I went there and pay the $54.44 at 12:34pm hope they do something about it? Thanks.

Desired outcome: I just want them to fix my problem to discount late fees and the months they are charching me please?

I had a problem with Public Storage billing immediately that took several months to resolve. Things went well for a bit, but I am now paying almost $100 more on each unit than I was paying originally less than 2 years ago with no notice of increase. Plus, I can see that I am being overcharged on the internet.

In addition, I received a notice on March 23, 2023 stating that if I did not update my information, my payment was going to be rejected. However, the system will not allow me access to my information, nor can I get anyone on the phone. No matter how many times I update my information or how long I wait, it tells me that my account has been temporarily locked.

Before I found you, I was sending my information to a PI because I intended to sue them. However, now that I see all of these other complaints, I am just going to list what I want.

1. I am being overcharged. The fees on the internet are listed way beneath what I am paying and I would like a refund for all of the months that I have been overcharged. I will send you the rental rates printed from the internet and what I have been paying.

Public Storage 3/28/23 - 1808 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ - Regional Manager: Robert V

My storage threatened to kick me out if I was at my unit more than 20 minutes.

3/28/23 at roughly 2:30pm MT. I live 40 minutes away and am needing to slowly move from my unit over the next month since I do not own a car and can only get to my unit once a week. I visited my storage unit (Public Storage, AZ) for the first time in a couple of months. There are a lot of clothes and some home decor and appliances I wanted to donate. I wanted to pack up a bunch of clothes to go wash them before donating and was at my unit for a maximum of 10 minutes when 2 employees approached me.

I was told I can’t have my stuff in the hall because it’s a fire hazard. I said, okay and that I was taking some things with me so I neatly stacked stuff against the opposite wall leaving room for a walkway. This is when the first employee said I needed to move everything back into the unit right then and storage is only meant to go in and out and not organize/reorganize things. I said it’s going to take me a little bit as I’m going to donate stuff and I’ve been there 3.5 years and have never had any trouble. This is when things changed.

I asked if the person speaking was new and he said he doesn’t oversee that property but he’s the district manager. He said I cannot hang out there (all together 5 times during the conversation) and I’m only allowed to be there 20 minute or I could vacate the unit (kicked out). He said this information is in my lease. So I said I’m not hanging out and I continued to pack up clothes to donate and he asked if I heard him and I said yes, I’m getting my things.

I stopped and thought, then asked, how does that work (being there for only 20 minutes) when you’re moving out because it took me six hours to move in and he said that’s completely different, if you’re moving out you can take as long as you need. He said he was notating my account about this conversation and if they have to have it with me again, I will need to vacate the unit/property. I got upset as he left and called my ride back to come get me and decided to just drop everything off at goodwill and then take my suitcases back to my storage. When I arrived to my unit there was a massive lock on it placed there by the Public Storage employee(s).

The only time there has ever been a lock put on my unit is if I’m late on a payment. I was livid. I went to the office and the same manager was there. I said there’s a lock on my unit, why? He said he wanted to make our conversation was perfectly clear that you cannot “hang out” on the property and you need to be in and out and used the phrase “hanging out” 2 more times. I said you mean loitering and he said that was my word. He insisted he put the lock on because of the conversation about the time spent on the property (not about the fire hazard that I corrected). They agreed to remove the lock and another employee came to take it off my unit.

I check my lease and the only thing remotely related states:

“Section 3.5.5 - No Conducting Business, Habitation or Loitering. You will not use Your Space to conduct business or as living space for humans, animals or any living thing. You will not use a Facility as your business address. You will not loiter at the Facility or Your Space.”

The definition of loitering according to https://www.law.cornell.edu:

“To be dilatory, delay, linger, saunter, and to idle. “Loiter” does not signify anything bad or criminal, except when given such significance in criminal ordinance or statute. Loitering laws prohibit lingering in a public area without a purpose.”

According to https://www.azleg.gov:

“13-2905. Loitering; classification

A. A person commits loitering if such person intentionally:

Is present in a public place and in an offensive manner or in a manner likely to disturb the public peace solicits another person to engage in any sexual offense.

Is present in a transportation facility and after a reasonable request to cease or unless specifically authorized to do so solicits or engages in any business, trade or commercial transactions involving the sale of merchandise or services.

Is present in a public place, unless specifically authorized by law, to gamble with any cards, dice or other similar gambling devices.

Is present in or about a school, college or university building or grounds after a reasonable request to leave and either does not have any reason or relationship involving custody of or responsibility for a pupil or student or any other specific legitimate reason for being there or does not have written permission to be there from anyone authorized to grant permission.

Except as provided in section 13-3969, subsection A, solicits bail bond business inside a court building or immediately around or near the entrance of a county or city jail. For the purposes of this paragraph, "solicit" includes handing out business cards or any printed material or displaying any electronic devices related to bail bonds, verbally asking a person if the person needs a bail bond and recruiting another person to solicit bail bond business.

B. Loitering under subsection A, paragraph 4 is a class 1 misdemeanor. Loitering under subsection A, paragraphs 1, 2, 3, and 5 is a class 3 misdemeanor.”

According to Webster’s Dictionary:

“1: to delay an activity with idle stops and pauses: DAWDLE

2: a. to remain in an area for no obvious reason Example: teenagers loitering in the parking lot

b. to lag behind Example: a crowd of people, who loitered to hear the bloodcurdling threats the prisoner shouted —Willa Cather”

I was not loitering by definition, the district manager was abusing his power by placing a lock on my unit “to make sure (I) understood our conversation”, and his approach was abrasive and threatening.

Desired outcome: I want to have the regional manager Robert V reprimanded. I want to confirm with the location that I am allowed to be at my unit more than 20 minutes.

Public Storage Public Storage rate increases

I rented a space in Feb of 2022 for $118. They increased it 6 months later to $180. Then I just got notice of an increase to $226. That is a 92% increase in just over a year. That is outrageous even with inflation. They are price gouging and get away with it because they are not regulated. I went on line and can rent the same size unit at the same location today for $147. So I guess my only option is to terminate my lease on the old unit, rent a new unit and move from the old to the new.

Also, their website has a chat feature which doesn't work when you click on the link. And their website based on this statement, "If you have questions about self storage, our agents are here to help by phone, email, US mail or at any of our locations.", should have an email address displayed for communicating. Nowhere on that page is there an actual email address. They clearly have designed everything so that it is difficult to communicate with them.

Desired outcome: Return my rent to the same price that you charge new customers OR at least no more than what I have been paying since the last increase! That was $180 and is still much more than a new customer is charged.

Public Storage 400 N Roosevelt Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044

Yesterday I went to this location to arrange for a storage unit. I've used this location multiple times before it became Public Storage. I was surprised at the cost. The young lady who helped me suggested that I go online and reserve a unit, come and see it, then complete the reservation online. There was an older gentleman there too who looked Indian to me.

Today I went back and was surprised that the door was locked and there was no sign indicating a return time. I checked the internet to make sure the office should be open and was about to leave when I saw the same older gentleman come from behind the desk. He unlocked the door and I explained that I was there to see the unit. I gave him the reservation number and he looked it up. Finally, he told me that I would have to complete the rental agreement first. I said that that's not what the young lady had told me yesterday. He said she's in training and knows nothing. I asked why he didn't correct her. He said he'd never seen me. I said I'd seen him standing right next to the young lady. Then he hollered at me, "Do you want to fight?" I said no and that I'd take my business elsewhere. VERY disappointing. I certainly plan to let people know of this experience. Totally unacceptable. Barbara Brosnahan

Public Storage Price increase charging different prices and poor customer service

I moved across country from Va to Texas. I moved to a smaller residence. I had a few things to store. I went online and found a storage unit very close to my new home. The cost $99 a month for 7.5 x 10. Perfect! While I still had the moving truck we took the stuff and stored. About a year later they sold the company to public storage not long after they changed the price to $115. Not a big deal then it went to $118. Now it’s $137. I went into the office to speak to someone. There is literally no one there to talk to. I finally stopped in and spoke to a female she said yeah everybody’s went up. That’s it? I tried calling the number listed no one answers and they don’t respond to voicemail mails. I recently stopped in and the doors were locked not one person to talk to. I tried the chat and was told that I had to have my id that I purchased the unit with. Even with my account number. I moved to Texas I have a Texas driver’s license they take you’re old license I don’t have that ID.

I’ve been with them for 2 years have never been late but if I book the same unit online today it’s $99 a month. Why? It’s expensive to change storage companies I don’t have a truck or the time to move my things. This seems very unfair. The extra $37 is extreme when you’re on a fixed budget.

Desired outcome: I want to pay what I booked the unit as. I want someone from public storage to acknowledge that I am a consumer and they should offer customer satisfaction. Corporate greed is becoming a new tradition.

Public Storage Public storage on chatham parkway

1st of all the hidden fees of the price of the luck that you can only use there. They would not give me a printed out receipt I didn't notice the charge until I looked at my email later that day When my phone was charged. I went back and said I don't need these locks I have 2 units I have my own locks I was told I could get a refund within 30 days and of course, no one is ever ever there to even get a refund no 1 ever returns your calls so then they can say "oh well, it's past 30 days, your loss, even though they were never there to even give the refund. That's their fault !they arei con artist sketchy. And Morgan Definitely needs anger management classes that dude is off the chain belligerent. Rude unprofessional and a liar.DO NOT USE THESE SHEISTERS.

Public Storage Raising rates at extreme frequency and amounts

I've been with Public Storage for 13 years. Occasionally they raised rates and it wasn't very frequent. However, two years ago they raised my rates to $280. A year later they raised the rates again, this time to $380. I complained to them but they said they couldn't do anything about it and that the system was prevented from lowering my rates. They suggested I ask again after 3 months.

After numerous calls and months of waiting, they lowered my rate back to $280 for a period of six months. However, when the period ended, they immediately raised my rate, not back to $380 but to $460! That's an increase of over $200 in two years, representing and almost 100% increase in rates. Can anyone point to where inflation has increased 100% over the last couple of years? I understand they want to stay ahead of inflation but 100% in two years is a slap in the face to their loyal customers and also is a way for them to punish people who asked for a rate reduction. Their shady practices are to raise your rates more often and at higher rates to recoup what they lost when they were being "nice" and pretending that they cared about you. Their practices are shady and I would not recommend this storage company to anyone.

Public Storage Storage unit boarded up due to storm damage

I went to my unit the other day at 500 E. Arapaho Rd, Richardson, TX 75081 and was shocked to find that my unit #4003 and someone else's uit #4002 are boarded up due to storm damage over a week ago. No one bothered to call to inform me. I contacted customer service and they put in damages claim into the system and sent the claim to the district manager. When she called, she refused to waive the rent for March due to loss of use. She said I will have no access at all and that there is no time set for the repairs to be done to the unit, indicating it could be a month or longer. I asked for her to provide Public Storage's master insurance policy information to me so that I can file a claim and she refused. I went to the BBB website, but they seem to have shut their complaint system down making it impossible for me to file a complaint with them.

Desired outcome: Waive rent for the month of March 2023 and all months thereafter until I am able to regain access to the unit. Provide their master insurance policy # & toll-free number so that I may file damages claim.

Public Storage Guilty by association?

I purchased multiple units for family members who violated the company policy and when the issue was resolved me Taylor Broaddus and the workers at Public Storage located at 99 S Vaness Ave San Francisco 94103 that in compliance I removed the tenants and closed the units. Both parties firmly came to understanding and aggressive that from the date of 2/25/2023 that I would no longer be held responsible for the party’s that failed to comply with the terms of public storage. An individual returned to the facility and apon noticing the lock placed by public storage apon the unit then proceeded to return with a second individual and cut off the lock and was unsuccessful to retrieve the units belongings. I was hospitalized during the incident that took place and as well I have never been given any notice nor received any complaints under my own circumstances. They have now evicted myself my boyfriend who had been renting under his own name and payment method and a man who I can not name because I do not know but they assumed by a helllo made in passing that this man or individual associates with us and proceeded to as well evict him. I had personal sentiments that can not be replaced in this unit. I never received any feedback and never was contacted about the decision they made and never had a chance to retrieve any items from my unit. As well I made individuals separate payments to insure something like this would not be possible to occur.

Desired outcome: Reimbursed for all property and continuum in a timely fashion all held in court. I would like to sue as well the management involved for the part they played causing me

Public Storage Paying for an unoccupied unit

I moved out of my unit on Benham Rd on February 3, 2023. I was told the day before by one of the staff members that I would not have to pay for the entire month of February. When I got there to clear my unit I had to pay for the whole month. So by me having to pay for an entire month I left the lock on the unit so that the unit could not be rerented because I already paid for the month. I have been calling them since February 26 and informed them that I had left the unit and just cut the lock off that I had to purchase from them because I do not have a way to the storage unit. I am being told now that I will have to pay for the whole month of March and I have already vacated the unit. I refuse to pay another month for an empty unit and they will cut the lock off anyway.

Desired outcome: I would not want to be charged for a whole month again for an empty storage unit.

Public Storage Fraudulent advertisement and illegally keeps customers' money

We initially rented a 10 X 20 storage room from Public Storage and was provided with a Reservation No. [protected] on September 1, 2022 located at 12120 Pierce Road Waldorf MD 20601.

Thereafter, we had to rent a larger rental unit which was discussed with the location’s Manager. After which it appeared that the online offers were better than our going though the local office. Thus, we booked a 12 x 25 rental unit online starting January 7, 2023 , Acct No [protected] and paid our first month’s rental. Public Storage did not honor its contract with us wherein they offered 2nd month free on our storage room rental but instead charged us for the 2nd month. Public Storage did not provide a Reservation Number along with its Confirmation Notice on our 12 x 25 rental unit. However, when we questioned their actions, the representative requested a Reservation Number which they had never issued on this account.

Furthermore, we cleared out the 10 x 20 storage unit and moved the items to our new storage unit with our other items on January 7, 2022. An automatic debit was taken from our checking account for the entire month of January. When I inquired if the money for the 3 weeks of January would be applied to our new unit I was told no. Basically, they just usurped our money.

Public Storage uses "abate and switch tactics" online to get customers. It employs unconscionable clauses hidden in small print and rhetoric language which are not obviously disclosed along with the offers in bold print to deny these offers & deals which are displayed and offered on its website. Public Storage illegally gains Unjust Enrichment from consumers with its unsavory practices.

Desired outcome: Compensation for our loss!

Public Storage Service

I will be emptying out my 2 units six days into the month and when I called for the to prorate my balance I was notified that I will have to pay the whole months bill. I explained to the agent that I just purchased a home and was very low on funds and wasn't expecting to pay for the whole balance which it was $520.00 for the two units. The agent didn't care and also told me that if I didn't pay I would be responsible for the late fees with it would be $150.00 on top of the $520.00. This is horrible service I will never rent from them again.

Desired outcome: refund

Public Storage Storage unit

I was unable to access my storage unit myself for over a year due to the door being broken. I repeatedly reported the issue and each time I did, they couldn’t locate the prior request. They allow/not share the ticket #. PS clearly knew there was an issue as I was given credit twice early last yr (so it was clearly known by PS my unit was an issue). However, the remaining months and as of today I’m still charged each month over $200 for a u it I can’t acces/use. Finally, in Dec22 I was to the point I will not pay unit I can access my unit. The local Property Mgr co texted the district Mgr. This whole process took another 2 wks to see any movement. Then I was advised I would need to meet & let them put the PS lock on my unit for someone to fix. Unbeknownst to me this vender did not even have someone from PS on site to see what was being done and to watch my personal belongs. Fast forward 2023. I finally have my storage unit back 1/28/23 (due to PM not on site except for a few days a wk and my working schedule & locks had to be exchanged. I advised the PM at the time that I would like a call frm District Mgr to discuss my issues and payment. A call wasn’t returned until 2/1/23 (he had to leave GM as I was at work). I called back 2/2 and currently still waiting on a return call. I have not been given any credit for all the months paid after repeatedly telling the PM to submit a ticket. I was advised back in Dec22 by the PM’s discussion w/District Mgr that I would at least receive a month and I said that is not acceptable.

Desired outcome: Credit for a unit I have been unable to access and at least an apology at a District Mgr level who accepts they failed a paying customer-big time.
