My husband and I on Insignia January 5-January 27, 2025 to Amazon. On January 25, 2025, I requested medical attention because right ear was severely congested and painful. Dr Maria Helena, MD attended to me as well as a RN. In the process of "cleaning my ear", the instrument struck and punctured my eardrum, causing me to scream loudly and double over in excruciating pain. My ear was oozing blood. The Dr immediately apologized and bandaged my ear with gauze and tape. The following day, the doctor removed the bandages and sent me to my stateroom with dozens of pages of scientific findings that as she said "showed that my eardrum was susceptible to being punctured since I had recently completed ERT for Basel cell carcinoma on my nose", so that it was basically not her fault. I am certain she was in fear that I would report this incident. I listened, and left, knowing that she would never accept responsibility for a mistake that she made. I was in a great deal of pain and extremely upset at the lack of concern to such a cavalier attitude. I had to see an ENT immediately upon arriving home, who confirmed that the eardrum had healed while acknowledging that the cause of the eardrum puncture had nothing to do with ERT, nor with skin cancer.
We have taken many Oceania Cruises with nothing but the highest accolades about all aspects of the voyages...HOWEVER, after much thought, I decided that it was important to relate this unfortunate and very painful experience to you in hopes that the quality/knowledge of the medical staff you hire will improve. At the very least this was ignorance; at its very worst medical negligence. Thank you.
Desired outcome: I would appreciate a response and an acknowledgment that this doctor has been informed of my letter to you. I would also like to hear from someone in person.
