When watching the TV show Ozark (Season 1 Épisode 1) tonight I was actually chocked by a scene happening from the 50th to the 51th minutes of the episode!
The character simply amalgamated Muslims and Terrorists... not even mentionning that this disrespectful and insulting comment comes out of the blue, since it has nothing to do with the topic of the show/scene...
Let me quote the script as it clearly speaks from itself :
« Mexicans, Mafia, Muslims. We all want to believe that these people are more than they are. And they're not. If they weren't... dealing drugs, extorting businesses, flying planes into buldings, they'd be cleaning toilets.
They're not criminal geniuses. They're pathological liars on the path of least of resistence. ... »
It is our responsability to ensure that racist, islamophobic or any disrespectful comments about any type of community are noticed, reported and not accepted as if it was a thruth or a normal thing to say... We must not exploit the fear of Muslims within the world by popularizing Islamophobia!

Heeyyyy i love mexicans i mean i haven't met one but they seem nice the food and everything looks nice i mean what to expect putting gay and lesbians on the show(not in ozark cuz i havent seen it all yet but at alot of other shows)and not putting muslims it is just racism and a stupid phobia
how disrespectful this comment is. how can i take legal action against this show. Netflix actively promotes this propaganda against Muslim. i am helpless to not being bale to do anything.
This was disrespectful towards Muslims and Mexicans. You can't just use them with Mafias.
All Mafias are criminals and black sheep of the society, however, the majority of Muslims and Mexicans are law-abiding citizens, and possess respect for law and order.
Either the Netflix, writer, director, and actor are completely stupid and couldn't understand the difference between them OR this is just disgraceful and insensitive and they think it is okay to hurt the sentiments of these communities.
Shame on Ozark producer. How this hate speech in series one ignored by authority.

I was very excited about the series and I almost had my decision to watch the whole seasons of it but the moment at 50 It screwed everything it is shameful a big racist virus, I can't go on with the show I'm quitting, and if it happens again with any other show I will cancel my Netflix registration too.
I was shocked to hear this. There is another comment later on, still in season 1 about Obama being a Muslim and the person saying the line won't vote for a Muslim.
Netflix needs to appreciate its services are being used by Muslims throughout the world. Don't disrespect us!

I stopped watching it the moment I reached that scene. Very bad. I hope they stopped creating hate in tv shows.
Exactly. I just started watching the show and in the first episode I heard this. It was so disturbing and infuriating. Why hasn't anybody noticed this?
I was very excited about the story since i watched Breaking Bad and i could see the potential of the story. However, I was shocked to hear about the comments in Epesiode 1 about Muslims, Mexican and Mafias. I am not strict muslim at all, but i find it insulting to all muslims frankly as it generalise all in one group of criminals. It is typical white american script who obviously needs some education and live in his/her own bubble, typical ! I stopped watching this series as it makes me sick!
Such a deliberate hate comment generalizing, stereotyping billions of people. This is a mindset of a writer filled with hate.shame on netflix to actually let it go on air.
I turned the show off when I saw that scene and I will not be watching the rest of the series. This is disgusting and if it continues in future episodes, like some of the previous comments suggest, I'm glad I won't have to endure the pain.
Same thing, I got shocked "muslim" and even Mexicans even I'm not Mexican but they spreading hate and teaching people that all Muslims are the bad ones. I won't continue watching it definitely

Yeah i totally agree.I also noticed how they indirectly poked fun of muslims by using the birds or starlings as metaphors to tell that muslims are invaders.
They again followed it up with a comment after some episodes, BUDDY saying "I would never vote for a Muslim (referring to Obama).
I've found that the more devout a Muslim is to the Koran, the more likely he is to be a terrorist.
