MetLife false advertisement

Metlife dental plan brochure states the coverage of implants this year. But when my dentist submitted a pre-treatment plan for two implants, they kept on saying denture is the alternative and their reply(from James Timian), was full of wrong information and indifferent to my physical situation. It is false advertisement.

Here are some of the complaints I found on the Internet:

--All my experiences working with MetLife have been negative.

--Metlife they are by far the worst dental insurance I had to deal with.

--According to them a removable partial denture is just the same and like your natural born tooth.

Now it's open season. Hope this review will prevent others from being victims of Metlife's false advertisement.

MetLife disability insurance

After paying into Metlife for well over a decade, I became totally disabled in 2008. Disability forms, notes and letters were all sent in to Metlife by numerous doctors but Metlife initially denied my claim. After more documents, notes and letters, they approved my LTD Insurance. I was told I needed to apply for SSD which I did. SSD approved my claim after their own doctors and specialists agreed that my conditions qualified me for disability. The games, lies, etc began right away with Metlife. I kept being told different things depending on who I spoke to. Case managers were changed often and with that, so did the rules along with the information I was given. At one point, I was told in a threatening way that I should have surgery for some of the physical conditions (there are multiple) and go into an “institution” for the severe depression, PST, bi-polar, panic and anxiety I suffer with daily. They felt psychiatry wasn’t enough. When I spoke to my doctors about this, I was told that Metlife had no business threatening me and telling me what course of treatment I should have or else! When I called back and spoke to a manager, I was told that dictating claimants medical treatment was not part of their policy. Since they record all conversations, I told the manager to play back my recorded conversations as proof. Of course that was never done.

The list of deceitful actions taken by Metlife is long to post here. However, to give one example: My benefits were suddenly stopped and when I called to find out why, I was told their records indicated that I had returned to work. I explained that I never returned to work and after several calls and letters, I was told it was an error on the part of a new employee who had input the wrong information into the system. There were many mistakes like these.

It seems that although numerous doctors, specialists, independent exams and social security have found me permanently disabled, Metlife tells me their definition of disability differs from SSD. I now know it also differs from all my doctors who have been sending in reports for almost 3 years as well as their own so called independent doctor who agreed with my doctors.

I am constantly harassed by phone and with letters requesting notes and updates from all my doctors. They have increased this to every three months or less, even though I was told by my last case manager that it would be on an annual basis. The doctors repeatedly tell them that I am completely disabled and yet they will call me and ask when “I plan on returning” to work or when do I “expect to get better.” No matter how much information they ask for, it’s never enough. They will claim they need one thing and when they receive it, they ask for something else.

They are trying to wear me down and frustrate my doctors who have to fill out numerous detailed information about my conditions over and over again. This constant harassment is actually worsening my physical and emotional conditions, and I feel as though they are driving me to a complete emotional breakdown. Metlife is using every single tactic to rid me as a claimant, which is something they have been aggressively striving for since the beginning. They are working hard to stop my payments, which is quite obvious to me as well as all the doctors who are treating me. After paying for this insurance benefit for all these years, thinking I had some protection if I ever became disabled, I feel like I am being treated like a criminal

As I write this, Metlife has once again changed my case manager and my claim is being treated like a new claim. This came 3 months after my previous case manager told me that my claim would be reviewed on an annual basis. I guess this did not sit well with the company.

I realize my complaint comes too late for any recourse on my part... but it may prevent someone else from having this problem with Metlife refusing to pay on disability policies. I paid on one of their disability policies thru my work at Naturalizer Shoes for almost 15 years. When i became disabled in 2000 and filed for social security Metlife honored the part of the policy that paid me my normal wages up to the point where i was declared 100% disabled by Social Security. At that point they said i was still able to work and required that i attend a 2 day set of tests 75 miles one way in Altamonte Springs from my home in Daytona Beach. I explained to the company that i had no way of getting there for the tests due to my car not running, and in addition i had just had major surgery from my gall bladder rupturing.and I was under phsyciatric care at the time and in no condition to deal with them. Anyone i talked to with the company seemed not to care. The part of the policy they refused to honor was the section that promised to assure that my monthly income be $1500 per month (example : if social security paid me $1190 every month Metlife would pay $310 so that i would have $1500 total.

Over the last 10 years that would have been close to $25, 000 that would have made my living conditions and personal life much easier. I have read countless reports of them doing the same thing to policy holders all over the country and someone some how needs to put a stop to them not honoring their commitments to people who desperately needed the help

Metlife is doing the same thing to me. Isn't this type of harassment illegal? I am being harassed every couple of months lately, this last time was a couple of days ago. I was so shocked by this last episode and I started to wonder if it were just me or if Metlife actually does treat other people the same way. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked online and found so many complaints of Metlife. Apparently it is very common for Metlife to treat people badly when they become disabled and actually need their LTD income that they have worked very hard for and paid good money for. Seriously, can this type of activity and behavior be legal? How is it that Metlife is allowed to continue conduct business this way. A class action suit should be brought against this company and I for one would be more than happy to be apart of it.

Thank you, Thank you, I thought it was just me. I paid into MetLife along with my employer for my Short Term and Long Term Disability for six years. In December of 2012, I became seriously ill and in February of 2013, they just decided to stop my short term even though, my Cardiologist, Neurologist and Primary Doctors have all said that I cannot return to work because they have not been able to diagnose why I "black out" all the time, along with other things. Metlife totally went against my doctor's recommendation, but they have the gall to leave me phone messages to apply for their Long Term. Are they serious? Someone needs to file a "class action suit" against Metlife and if they do, I'm in.

MetLife no one will take ownership and help me solve their clear error

In July 2009 I mailed 2 money orders into the company, and received my statement as usual that my payment had been applied. A few days later, I received another statement that said my payment had been unapplied because my "$800.00 check bounced". I called customer service and let them know it was a money order, not a check. And it was not 800.00 even, it was broken up into 2 money orders, one for $500.00 and one for the balance (about $323.00). They told me it was indeed a check and they'd send me a copy of it to prove it. I received a copy of my $500.00 money order in the mail. I called customer service back and asked them what the deal was, and they said they'd have to look into it and check with the cashier's dept and call me back. Well this has been going on since july. Nobody ever calls me back, and they have opened and closed countless work orders and nothing has been fixed. Meanwhile, they are sending me letters that I'm behind on my payments and my loan is in default. I've spoken with lots of supervisors and customer service reps and no one will take ownership and help me solve their clear error. I don't know where to go from here.

Approach this problem from the other end of the transaction -- you're obviously never going to get anywhere dealing with MetLife. Take your copies or stubs (or photocopies of them - I wouldn't let the originals out of my possession) of the money orders, which I hope you kept, to wherever you bought the money orders and have the issuer put a trace on them both. It may take quite a while (and you may even have to pay for it) but you should eventually get a statement of who cashed them. The report should show you into whose account they were deposited. If it says MetLife - end of story! They will have to straighten out their bookkeeping and credit you properly. If someone inside MetLife skimmed one of them into a personal account - too bad for them. That person can be prosecuted and MetLife will have proof that you did pay on time and they will have to deal with it. Good luck.

MetLife metlife dental gets a zero in my book

I manage a large dental practice in upstate NY and have two, possibly three doctors that are willing to become participating members for MetLife Dental. I have called MetLife atleast 15 times within the past 45 days attempting to obtain three provider contract to enroll my doctors. To this date, i have not received ONE. I have left messages, spoken to customer service and sent e-mails. I have questioned that they fax, or e-mail me one provider contract and I will gladly make copies. To my amazement, I am told that they are unable to fax or e-mail me. Are you kidding me? I am honestly questioning the choice to enroll my doctors. These are serious red flags. MetLife Dental gets a zero in my book… I am no longer recommending them.

MetLife neglience

I filed a short-term disability claim on june 16, 2011. metlife advised that i needed to submit additional paperwork in order to extend my claim. as per their policy, they have 5 business days to work a claim after paperwork has been submitted. I submitted the paperwork on aug 16, and my claim should have been approved or denied by aug 23, 2011. This was not done and I was not aware that it was not done. I called again on the 29th to question why my claim was not completed and was told that they were still reviewing the documents. Because of their neglience and deficiency, i did not receive my paycheck and this has caused my illness to worsen. And all they could say was sorry. I have no food and I can't pay my rent which results in an added late fee in addition to my rent that i can not afford.

MetLife scam

Employee signed up with MetLife for long-term disability through Sears Holdings Corporation. Employee contracted cancer of the breast during employment at Sears. Fast forward: After 5+ major operations to remove cancer from employer’s body, employer discovered that she was receiving $500+ less in benefits from MetLife. Apparently, MetLife, although aware of the discrepency in income submitted by former employer and IRS income tax filings, which confirmed the employee’s earnings; MetLife refuses to reimburse employee of over $30, 000 in benefits from 2007 to present. Any suggestions on the best course of action to take against MetLife, etc.?

MetLife home loan lending problems

We have been victimized by Metlife home loans and suffered severely lost jobs, family almost split, and we almost lost the home my husband was raised in. I don’t think MetLife will even bother going to court in fear knowing they can’t win. I have that much confidence, I have written so many letters and my story doesn’t change now. Credit scores can be fixed but family’s mental anguish could last forever. I wanted to when I thought I was the one who did this to my family. We just remodeled our home that was destroyed and now Metlife is trying to take the one thing we have left. I have been denied council so many times saying I don’t have a case but I won’t stop until some will take the chance with me.

MetLife auto insurance fraud

I have been with Met Life for about 12 years for both my auto and homeowners because they are a preferred provider with my employer. About 3 years ago, my step son changed the address on his license to my address and at the time was using Mt Life as his Auto Insurance carrier. Well 3 months later, my step son cancelled his policy and Met Life took it upon them selves to add him to my policy because his address at the time on his license was mine, even though he was not living with me. I call Met life on 2 occasions and asked to have him removed and they said that there was no harm in having him on the policy and my policy was not being rated on him. They could not remove him though. Well 3 years later, bringing us up to current year, I received a notice from Met Life that my policy was going to increase by an additional $1, 000 because of a change in rating status. When I called Met Life to inquire what this was about, I was surprised to hear that it was because my step son is being rated as an experienced driver on my policy and because he had points against him that I was being rated on those points, causing my policy to increase by $1, 000. Next the phone rep told me that I have been paying for him for the last 3 years (at approx $700 per year). I asked what I could do to get him removed from my policy and credited back. Well after several going back and forth with the phone reps, who continuously had to call underwriting, they were going to let me file and exclusion so that I was not rated and if I could provide proof of residency back to 2008, they would credit me back. Well they lied! I spoke to a representative on 07/08/2011 because my step son is only 21 and lives with his mom and does not have any bills in his name, nor alternate auto insurance and I could not get any other proof of residency besides going to the registry and getting proof of address change. The rep was very rude and told me that there was nothing that they could do and just kept saying proof of residency...so I asked him if I went to the registry myself (even though they have access to it) and get proof of address change back in 08, that they would remove him and give me a credit and the rep said yes. So about 1 week later I called back to get the fax number to send the registry documentation to and the woman I spoke to told me that registry receipts are not proof that he did not reside with me and that anyone can change their address at any time...I know that, because that is how this whole thing started! So now I have wasted hours on the phone and of course the rep had to call underwriting again, and the underwriter she spoke to basically said that Met Life is not going to issue me a credit for past years and why am I just coming forward about this now. I told the rep that I had called several times and that she could pull the calls...she said that she could not do that...go figure because they record the calls. She also told me that there were no notes from the underwriting dept stating that they would issue a credit nor history of calls made prior to July of this year. Well I cannot help it if the reps don't take notes...The rep seemed more concerned that my step son did not have auto insurance than helping me out. So I said to her basically that I would have to file a suit to get my money back, and all she could say was sorry we are not giving you a credit...all they would do is remove my step sons name going forward if I could provide once again proof of residency. Met Life stole money from me. I never authorized my step son to be added to my plan! They took it upon them selves to add him and then lied to me for 3 years. Met life owes me about $2, 000! After my last call with them, I cancelled my policy with them that evening! I am telling everyone I know, not to use them and I have had a couple of friends actually also cancel their policy due to their lack of service and fraudulent activity! Go figure, my new provider was able to give me better coverage and save me $40.00 a month! Better yet, my step son is no listed on my policy and I am not being rating for him!

MetLife too long to settle claim, no return calls

Apartment burgularized June 16th - nothing but run around since that time - two different agents a local Az agent and still no settlement nor response - not only that you have to do your own research and document gathering and of course continue to pay your monthly payment on time - so now I know what I'm getting for that payment - what can be done and how can this be settled speedier - not a fair practice if you are paying your premiums on time for 2 yrs

I. Had my apartment burglarized July 2011. I immediately had police come who made a report, took pictures, and fingerprinted the place. Per metlifes request I filled out a loss statement and had it notarized. After sending that to them they set out a private investigator who taped what happened, asked very personal questions about finances, etc. The woman took pictures and asked where I got my things, , , who, , , where and how I got my stolen items. I felt so invaded like I was a criminal. Weeks went by...no response. Then I get a letter from their attorney Richard knapp requesting me to come to his office and be put under oath...and they just grinder me on the same things. Again I was felt to be some kind of a criminal. Now they want phone records...bank statements, etc. It still isn't over, waiting to receive more ppwk, horrible company, I had a substantial amount of items meaning lots of jewelry and electronics...who keeps receipts for things acquired 16 years ago? They even want to telephone my ex husband about my wedding ring that was stolen, and my mother, who has given me lots of jewelry over the years. I am so fed up and stressed out over this and very disgusted in the way they are treating me. They never call back...I think I actually spoke with the adjuster once during all of this. The investigator is a pit bull of a woman and the attorney has a horrible reputation of beating down his clients like they want you to give up...anyone else have this problem with them? I have never filed a claim with them...and I also have them for my car insurance. I don't have an attorney but if they deny this claim I will be forced to fight them. This a horrible experience and would never recommend them to my worst enemy (but I don't have any)! Thanks for listening

MetLife non payment of claim

Took renters insurance with plenty of coverage, I was back east recovering from surgery and the bath tub faucet failed which turned the hot water on. Just running down the drain, the apartment was closed up so the water ran for at least a month. Black mold formed over everything, ruined all my personal property, the MetLife adjuster refused to enter the unit it was that bad. They told me that the remediation company would inventory all belongings and that he considered all a total loss. This took place on May 25th 2011, I still have no list, I got a check for $5, 000 which is all they are willing to pay because the loss was due to mold. The loss was due to a faulty water control valve, I have no apartment, and just the clothes on my back. Have $26, 000 worth of personal property protection and $6, 500 substitute housing coverage and the only answer they have is sue the apartment complex for the balance, I thought these jokers were working for the insured (me).

You should contact a Public Adjuster, if it's not too late. They will get your claim settled. The public is not aware of their services and the Insurance companies don't want you to know about them. They are experienced insurance people who know how to file your claim and get you want you paid for. If it's not too late, find a Public Adjuster! They just saved my home in GA and I can't speak highly enough about the service they provide. Allstate wanted to give me $100K for my totally burned down $200K home, the adjusters got them up to $208K, so I'm telling everyone about PUBLIC ADJUSTERS. I wish the Public Adjusters would put up Bill Boards to educate the public about what they do. I would have lost my home to foreclosure if they had not been able to get me the money to rebuild it back. I would have been forced to walk away as I owed more than it would have been worth burned. I don't understand why the Mortgage Companies aren't willing to help. It's their investment too.

MetLife loan modification sham

I too have been thru 9 + months of trying to get a loan modification and had the same experience, lost financial info or continuous requests for financials, refusal to accept payment, demand letters all after an initial 3 trial of 3 mos completed successfully. I contacted the Hope Hotline ( who I was referred to when I contacted TARP to report a loan modification fraud) tel [protected]. They initially told me the modification was to have been done by 6 mos and the amount was not to exceed 31% of my income...'they were not in compliance..." They sent a letter to 'escalate the loan' and I was told MetLife had 30 days to reply. 32 days later I contact Hope and was told 'they did not have a reply and it was going to the supervisor bec now MetLife was in violation with the Treasury. I called 3 days later and was told everything I was told was incorrect...'those rules do not apply... I became very angry and said "who can you help? there are no teeth in this program!" It's been nearly 2 months since I initially contacted Hope. I had hopes they could help... that remains to be seen...I'll keep you posted...G

MetLife none payment

This carrier was my primary and my spouse's secondary and claims were submitted for him and they refused to pay each time requesting more information from Dentist via a generic letter. They continued to deny payment until the carrier cut-off date was reached then stated they no longer needed to pay because they no longer cover the employer on the claim. So in the end, we are stuck paying a $1050 bill.

MetLife failed at paying disability

Metlife is the worse company I have ever dealt with. I have disability insurance with them though work. I got acutely ill in Oct 2010. I was hosipitalized in Novemeber 2010 for 5 days. I was hosipitalized in December 6 2010 for another 5 days and on December 17th I had a colomstomy. In mid Feburary (another surgery) my surgeon reversed the colostomy. At that point I applied for my long term with Metlife. I filled out a packet and faxed it in. Keep in mind I had used up my short term which was with a different company. So it was already established I was ill and could not work. I lost 2 1/2 feet of intenstines and then some. I then received a second packet. They wanted my last 15 years of employement. They wanted 2 years of pharmacy records, a form claim for my regular medical doctor stating this was not a pre-existing condition was faxed to him by Metlife. I got through all of that with problems from them, of course paperwork was not to their satification. My regular medical doctor had no knowledge this was going on with me and he did not know what to write on the paper. I had to do all this running around to get these forms filled out ASAP. I could not wait and mail then wait for the doctor to mail back. The pharmacy doesn't keep 2 years at the locations you have to call the corporate location (CVS). They wanted to know who I live with and how long. They wanted to know all the doctors I had seen in 2 years. They want to know my height, weight. They asked about my sleeping habits! Ridulous. Anyway I went back to work still no check. I went to my employer and HR called on it. Finally I got word they had issued the money. Almost 3500.00! Well I came home on Friday checked my account and found the money was not there. I called Metlife and found out they deposited it to the wrong account. Adding a 0 to the beginning of the routing number and droping a number at the end. I called twice and could not talk to a real person. Someone else received this money and Metlife never called back. I would never choose Metlife. As soon as I am completely well I am dropping them!

MetLife stay away

My suv was hit while parked on the street unattended, I was sleeping due to working nights. Didn't notice damage to my car until the morning when I was leaving work. I called met life right away and reported the claim, they took a month and a half to finally deny my claim while I waited for a response. a girl named melissa nadau was in charge of my case and she gave me the run around and never called me back. The reason for denying my claim they said my car must of been backing up they had there forensic experts(no credentials were shown to me) look at it. My theory is that they paid a lot out in damages this winter due to the snow storms And now they are refusing any large claims and making up reasons for it I have now switched to USAA for my auto and home I recommend everyone else do the same. They have a lack of integrity like I have never witnessed before I feel sorry for them because karma is a ***...

If your car was parked unattended, they would have no way to prove it was backing up. I would appeal when you get your claim denial.

MetLife would not send money held until completion

In december our dishwasher leaked and ruined our floor. the ins company sent in a company to dry out everything which was fine. we got an estimate for floor repair and because it was a composite floor and the estimate was for tile it had to be for like product so we had the company that came out to dry things out to give an estimate which they sent us a check on less $500.00 deductible less $98.00 held until work was finished. I noticed that the dimentions were wrong on the estimate got a new estimate from the same contractor. The claim adjuster knocked off the painter from the estimate and sent us an additional amount. her words were you can have anyone do it and choose whatever flooring you want and we will sent you the $98.00 when completed. Our son-in-law gave us a discount and did the job for us. He came in under what they had and now they won't sent the completion money as promised as they feel it's their money because we got a discount. I am a senior citizen and am sick of dealing with them. we cut corners to save money and who gets it, the coniving insurance company.

Isn't HomeOwners's Insurance supposed to reimburse you for your actual expenses up to the policy limits? Why are you looking to make a profit on the flooring situation?

MetLife automatic withdrawl

Metlife has insured our cars for the last decade plus. Recently the cost of their auto insurance has become significantly more expensive than competitors so we switched. I work for a large university in southeast Massachusetts where Metlife has offered a discount if we set up automatic deductions from our paychecks.
Metlife will not stop the deductions from my paycheck even though we have faxed them more than 8 times a copy of the change of insurance. The new company, Commerce has also faxed MetLife the change of insurance forms. We started calling Metlife every evening to check if the insurance has been cancelled and every evening we get a new person who tells us that nothing has changed and to fax the form to yet another number. We ask for a supervisor and they say there isn't one available. As of this writing we are $400 in the hole. I have called my HR department but they cannot stop the deductions. I'm getting mighty frustrated.

MetLife non performance for what I paid for

I had hail damage to my roof on Oct 5, 2011. I had a contractor who verified the damage. A MetLife adjuster, Mike Tori, said the damage was from a previous hailstorm (we have so many of them in Phoenix)and rejected my claim. I asked for another adjuster, request denied of course. So because of adjuster Mike Tori, my coverage by MetLife will be ended as soon as possible. What can I say except MetLife ***! Good riddance Mike. I will have another insurance company taking care of my insurance needs in a couple of days. Thanks for letting me know what kind of a company MetLife is only one year into a 30 year mortgage!

Same Agent TORI and same phx storm and also same story why they wont pay. This TORI guy is a nightmare and if enough of us complain maybe the company will listen. Have you filed a complaint with AZ dept of insurance? I have storm maps & weather data. If we band together maybe we can win.

MetLife long term disability

I paid premiums for 60% Long Term Disability through pay employer Verizon after being approved for long term disability Metlife has refused to pay my benefits stating that my 60% would be less anySocial Security Disability and Pension and that they are only required to pay $20.00 a month. Metlife never paid my whole benefit but did make some payments which they are now telling me were overpayment and I need to repay them. I have requested they send me proof of disclosure at the time I enrolled stating these reductions of benfits and they have failed to do so. I have gone through their appeals process, which they upheld their decision. Metlife has sent this alledged overpayment to collections because I have refused to pay them any monies as at no time during the enrollment was any of this disclosed. I paid my premiums in good faith for years this insurance was for supplemental income should I become disabled, if it had been disclosed that these reductions would be applied there is no way I would have enrolled for their LTD.
