Meineke Car Care Center RIPPED OFF, misbehavior

. I want to complain and explanation about my bitter experience with Meineke, Colmbia, Missouri (2001 Rangeline St # C, Columbia - [protected]).
I went there with a leak in my AC. I knew it for sure that there is a leak and asked them to fix it. The manager (I knew it later ) said he need to hook up a machine to check the system to see where is the problem or leaking and gave me a price of $130. I asked if there is any other way (comparatively cheaper) to do it as I know there is a leak and asked if it is possible to put some die in to check from where its leaking. He said “no, he won’t do that”. --- Understandable …. He wants to follow his policy…
After 2/3 hours he said he filled gas and die and asked me to come the next day so that they could find the leak. I went there next day and they said the “O-ring is bad”… and charged me $60 to fix it… then let me go with Freon filled up….. I drove for 30/40 minutes and AC stopped working ….. went to their shop again 2 day later and they said the clamp the hold the joint of 2 pipes (where the O ring is) is bad and need to be replaced... so come next day since they don’t have it in stock like that O ring ….
So I went there next week and after spending a long time they said the evaporator need to be replaced – reason is – the outer end of the pipe got deformed … WHEN THEY SHOWED ME THE PIPE I HAVE NOTICED SOME SCRATCHES AND MARKS OR ABUSE THERE.. I asked if they did it as it was covered and did not happened by me…. They said NO offcourse … but who did that .. if it was deformed why they could not notice it any earlier… they did it and ignoring their responsibility.. The mechanic also left a pliers on my wind shield that caused a small chip on my wind shield as I started my wiper and it bumped on and dropped on my glass. Next day he was asking for the pliers and I gave it back to him .. but when I mentioned the incident he said that chip was from a stone came off the road….. …. What you could say …
Anyway, to fix the AC they asked for $500 as the outer end of the evaporator got deformed (and I claim that they did it but I can not prove it as)and they want to replace the whole evaporator which is $500 plus $60 for labor….. when I said I found one in ebay for $80 … they said they wont accept it and asked me to leave the shop as I am asking too much of questions…. Regarding if there is any other cheaper way to do it. He also gave me an example – “as if I go to the same restaurant and ask for if they can give me a burger for less every time” …. Is this how a manager should treat a customer even if he asked for alternatives (cheaper)….
I spent over $200 and 15 hours waiting in their shop without any result ….. without knowing my rights on misbehavior, mistreat by the employee…. Money back issue due to job has not been done (I went there 5 times and everytime they came up with a new thing how could it be sure that this time spending $500 would solve the problem)…. Who is going to pay for fixing the chip on my wind shield as it happened due to the carelessness of the mechanic ….

@ripped off, You failed to mention the year, make of car, how many city, highway miles & if the car has a clear history of regular interval checkups. You did state Freon but did you say Freon loosly or the newer refridgerant. In today's world A/C is a big issue with the theory of depleted ozone. The Gov believes it so if you (as a mechanic) have better follow standard protocal. Keep in mind these systems are very sinsitive. I assume you did not buy the car new because if you did, you should have a report with your dealer's service dept. They should know your name when you come in. Meineke, as well as any mechanic, is not allowed to emit any cfc's and the act of doing so can be very costly. That is why there are so many fees associated to simple auto tasks today. If your A/C system had been low or dry for some time or if someone had attempted to prime an older system with the newer refridgerant this could/would damage your system. which is subjected to all kinds of elements . Those rings dry out & shrink, those fittings become corrosive & tight. The tubular ends tend to twist when attempting to break free the fittings, etc.
I can hardly believe that pliers left on the wiper could impact the windshield to crack it unless a fastball pitcher threw the pliers @ the windshield. Are you sure the glass chip was not preexisting. They can be hard to find & with any bump an existing chip can grow very fast.
I am not affliated with any local shops. I just restore old vehicles as a hobby & I have worked on fery fragile parts. In my hobby I have the option to let a part soak for months. I have even let parts soak for over a year to get the parts to free up. Your mechanic does not have that option. These issues are not always the case in a properly maintained vehicle.

I recently used Meineke in columbia, mo and found there services to be exceptional. They have recently been acquired by a new owner and there service staff works hard for the customer. I recommend them to everyone.

This sounds like a common "do-it-yourselfer" that screwed something up and didn't want to pay somebody else to fix it.

Meineke Car Care Center Ripped me off $48.65

Issue Resolve For Meineke - Farmington

Incident occurred 15 Aug 2008 at Meineke Muffler * Farmington Missouri. My wife Linda Farrow arrived at this store around 10:20 AM for a front end alignment on a 2000 Chevy Blazer.
The car ran straight and true when purchased yet needed an upper control arm bushing afterward (drivers side) to pass Missouri State inspection. Parts were replaced by the dealer as promised and he also recommended to get the front end aligned. The repair was good and the car did pull moderately to the left.
Linda drove to Meineke Muffler in Farmington Mo. after dropping me off at work that Friday AM.
After the “alignment” at Meineke Linda was charged $49.99 - a $5.00 off coupon = $48.65 with tax. And immediately noticed the car was pulling harder to the left than before. She decided to wait until I went on break at 12:15 PM and met me at my work. I drove the vehicle through the parking lot to verify the alignment was not done properly. I left work to go with her back to Meineke to see if there was a mechanical issue or if the job was not done properly. The car was driven by their employee and immediately returned to the service rack in the garage. The Counter person “Sam” (name was overheard not given) immediately started giving excuses as to why the car pulled so hard, the tires were bad, there was something else wrong with the front end, or the dealers repairs were done incorrectly. Inspection for the State was performed by;

If you had the dealer do the work, why didn't they do the alignment also. This would be pretty standard practice.

Meineke Car Care Center Reckless customer service

Alright the story starts with checking the Meineke web site. On the web site when you choose a city to find a service provider it says to click on the individual store web site for hours, services, etc. When I choose the site specifically for Merrimack it states they accept the Meineke Card. So I called, made my apt and dropped off my car. 7 hours later I stop to pick up my car and when I presented my Meineke card the man behind the counter says "what is this?" I say, it's the Meineke Card, shouldn't you know that. He says he needs to call his manager to see if they will accept it. After having the phone thrust upon me to speak with the manager (who had no idea that I was being handed the phone) he told me they will not accept the card, and that I should understand. I informed him no I didn't understand because the web page says they accept it. He then said to me, oh we do, the old version, we are not set up to take the new version. I said the web page does not state it, and his reply was we don't even carry the application forms for the new cards. At which point I said to him, sir how would I know if you carry the application forms I already have the card and your individual store site says you accept it. I didn't have the money to get my car any other way so I asked what they could do to work with me. I was told nothing, and if I tried to take my car I'd be arrested less then a mile down the road. When I pointed out that the web page clearly says they accept the card, I was told they do.. just the old cards and that he was sure I could understand. I was really upset and asked for a number to call, please keep in mind it wsa 5:15. The manager kept me waiting for 20 minutes for the customer service number at which point I called only to find out they close at 5:30. Some people would say that was chance, I say he planned it like that.

So I called for a ride home and locked my car, and rolled up my windows. I called the number on the back of my card, but they said they only make the cards they can't help.

Today I called the customer relations line explaining I'd like to file my complaint and the person (David) on the phone was rude and told me I didn't know what I was doing, that nothing really would get done. He talked down to me when I talked about mis-representation and fraud and tried to tell me writing a letter and contacting consumer affairs and the BBB is pointless. Eventually after being talked to like I was a child I asked to speak with a manager because he said they wouldn't change the page, that they own many companies all over the world and they know what they are doing. When I asked to speak with a manager I went directly to voice mail. I called back and spoke with the manager who was taking inbound calls because in the "Multi National" Company they only have 4 people who take customer service calls, and 2 where out. When I spoke with the manager and told them that at the store it was a horrid experience and the last person I spoke to was rude and bored with the call she sounded like she understood and the first thing she did was say "well how about we contact the store, find out if they are excepting both versions of the card, and if not we'll have the page changed"... which is exactly what the other rep told me couldn't happen.

I will be contacting consumer affairs and the BBB and writing many letters, and to those people who have complaints against this horrid company, I suggest you do the same. Eventually the right people will get the right amount of complaints and take action.

Meineke Econo Lube N' Tune #4305 installed the wrong oil filter on my car, causing the oil to empty out while I was driving, ruining my engine. Rather than accept responsibility, they blame me for driving the car.

They are continuing to stonewall and refusing any responsibility, causing me to incur rental car charges and the cost to have my engine replaced.

Had my oil change & brake job done at the Speedway shop in Tucson. Check gauge light kept coming on & oil pressure going to 0. I checked my oil & found my dip stick dry.Bought 2 quarts & light hasn't come on yet. Brakes squeal more now than when I took it in. Had to have my truck towed & missed a day of work in order to get my truck serviced. Brakes still squeal & oil reading is low. I put new tires on my truck yesterday & found 1 rim was different than the others. I called the Meineke manager & he stated that there was no way they could've put the wrong rim. They didn't put oil in my truck after the oil change, so what makes me believe that they didn't switch my rim? I will never go to any Meineke shop again!

Very unsatisfied with the poor and awful service that I received on my last visit. First of all I brought my van in for a prefered customer oil change (the usual) that includes brake check and fluid top off (at least that what the ad says) So I dropp off my car and about 2hours later a get a call form the guy at the shop to let me know that my car was ready but that one of the lug nuts and stud had broke when they where taking off the rim. #1MISTAKE: As far as I know if they brake soemthing aren't they responsible? Well as far as I know if they would've called me an told me hey you know yout rim lug nut is loose or weak and might brake if we try to take it off and I would've said that it was ok for them to proceed then it would've been my fault. But the only call I got from them was to let me know that they had broke it and that I had to pay for the parts and labor to get it fixed (which was going to cost me $80.00!) IF I wanted to get it fixed. Ok, so I come in to get my van and explain that I have to go get my daugter at school so they tell me that I can take the van like that and bring it back later if I want them to fix it but that they dont have the parts there so that if I wanted I could go and buy them from the Chrysler dealer. So I go and pick my dauhter up from school and then run tho the dealer and get the parts (out of my pocket) So I buy the parts and go back to the shop and tell me I have the parts. Again I ask them that since that was some thing they did that they should be responsible for getting it fixed. Again they say no. Now I'm not sure if they were treating me like this just because they saw me by myself with my two girls, but whatever the reason is I'm still very upset by the situation. So about three days later I start to hear and awful sound whenever I'd hit the brakes. BUT according to meineke they had checked my brakes as a "courtesy inspection" Obviously that wasnt the case. So I took my car to a DIFFERENT shop and they showed bow bad my brakes were and couldn't believe meineke didnt say anyhting. Well I know why, becaus ethey never even checked them. Not only that but this morning as I was drving my daugyter to school my dashborad began to alert me that it was overheating! Why? Becuase it had no coolant so I pop open the hood to find that the coolant container was completely empty. Therefpre that sure tells me that meineke never checked my brakes and never topped off the fluids! I'm very disappointed I expected so much more from a place like meineke. Just if youre wondering my van is under the 100, 000 miles and I'm the type of person that likes to get there vehicle serviced every 3, 000 miles. I wasn't going to say anything about the first inccident but then when I noticed they had never checked my brakes I began to heat up and then his morning when I noticed my fluids hadnt been topped off...well that did it.I've been calling the customer service number but no one answers.

I took my pickup truck into Mieneke in Delaware on Chestnut Hill Rd. I needed the doughnuts (gaskets) replaced on my exhaust manifold. The cost of the gaskets are $5.95 ea. at the local parts store. I know because I called and asked. Mieneke quoted me $120.00 to install new ones parts and labor. They told me "If we have to torch the studs out of the manifold and replace the its $20.00 per stud extra". When I returned to pick up my vehicle they charged me $200.00 I asked why they told me they had to replace the studs. He showed me six studs...none of which had been cut out with a torch and all they had was the threads were scored on one side. A die could have easily been the cure or probably just run the nuts back up on the studs. I called the consumer complaint line and was told the price was fair and basically to bad. Now its 117 days later I am in New Mexico my exhaust manifold is leaking AGAIN and I am told "Labor is only good for 90 days". I should have went to Goodyear they honor their work for 1 year or somewhere else. NEVER AGAIN MIENEKE ! You have seen the last penny from me and earned a bad reputation to anyone I can tell coast to coast!

They charged me 700 bucks to change a timing belt and seal the valve cover and it took them three days to do it because the valve cover leaked oil twice after they said it was done. Unfortunately, there was no need to even touch the valve cover on my car when changing the timing belt, but they did and they could NOT get it to seal oil properly.
I was on the road and had to pay a hundred bucks a night for three nights while they fiddle-farted with the valve cover trying to get it to seal oil, an elementary mechanical problem if ever there was one. Twice they told me it was fixed and I tested it for ten minutes and it leaked badly again! Ridiculous.
So, a few days and five hundred miles later it was leaking from a different place and I had to do it myself, took me six hours to remove all their sealant from the gasket and sealing faces and re-seal it carefully like they should've taken the time to do. Don't gamble with The Black Hole of Car Care unless you love gambling with your money because these guys are really incompetent mechanics.

I called the Meineke Car Center located in Walled Lake, MI to get a quote for brake repair. After I got the quote, I told the clerk that I have a coupon for %50 off that they advertise in a local magazine, he replied that the discount was included in the quote; So I said in a nice way that I got a lower quote from Midas without even using a discount, so he replied " if you don't like it, why don't you go f**k yourself?"

Unfortunately, I heard a lot of stories about this location from other people, but I was just trying to get a quote and I did not know that I was gonna have a negative experience like this.

March 03, 2017 - Wrong muffler exhaust blew engine during repair no longer drive able. Truck was left on the lot (Center 104 - 5238 South Boulevard, Charlotte, NC).

Mechanic says I need to buy a new engine because of their mistake. Upon bringing my truck in for new muffler, I had no problems with the engine.

Mechanic asked me if I wanted a larger muffler on the truck, I replied only if it would make the truck run better. I did not ask him to change it.

When mechanic lower the lift, smoke, water from exhaust begin to mix with the oil. Engine immediately locked.

I have been taking my 2017 ACURA MDX to Meineke for about 2 years now... mainly to save money.
Anyway, it's been OK until recently where my car has been stalling while driving and they couldn't figure out what was wrong... It took 2 services and NOTHING improved in the problem. So... I figured it's my transmission, maybe they don't know how to fix it. Soooo I took my car to my ACURA Dealer & they said the Transmission Mounts were broken and that Meineke should have been able to find that problem. Meineke is only good for oil changes, major services should be done at an authorized dealer or mechanic.
I am upset that I lost time & money at Meineke... I should have just gone straight to the dealer.

We took our 2017 Hyundai Sonata to Meineke for a tune up and timing belt replacement on 7/22/2017. The vehicle was running fine prior to this. The total cost was $876.

Within a few days, we started hearing loud noises coming from the engine immediately after startup. We returned the car to Meineke several times to have this noise investigated. At one point, we left the car there overnight. The mechanics could not find the cause of the noise.

In March of 2017, the noise returned even louder while driving to work. The vehicle was returned to Meineke immediately. An inspection revealed that the bolt holding the auto tensioner had sheared off. The auto tensioner, bolt and timing belt were replaced. The total cost of this repair was $340.

In August of 2017, the same noise returned while driving from work. The car was towed to Hyundai dealer. Mechanic inspecting the car found that the auto tensioner bolt had sheared off. We explained the earlier repairs. The mechanic stated that in 25 years of working with Hyundai, he had never seen one of these bolts shear off once, let alone twice. The mechanic suspected that improper torque had been used to tighten the bolt. The timing belt, auto tensioner and water pump needed replaced, estimated cost $1085.

Meineke did offer to honor the warranty and replace the parts at another location. However, we do not believe that the Meineke mechanics are completely competent in this area of repair and we simply cannot afford to have the car out of service every six months. We would like for Meineke to do the right thing and refund our money.

I had this annoying, squeeling sound everytime i stepped on my brakes, thinking brake pads need to be changed, with my coupon in hand, went to meineke and adviced that i just need a brake flush, they charged me $ 159.00 and another $ 100.00 for a new battery.i asked if i could get a free oil changed which they agreed but they forgot to put the sticker for the next oil change date which i think they didn't really do it.

Feeling that i got ripped off when i got home, i called other auto shop and no one has charge over $90.00 for a brake flush. and the worst part? i can still hear that annoying sound. I worked hard for that money.

Meineke Car Care Center Can't do a simple oil change

I took my car to get a simple oil change, which I thought any auto shop should be able to handle. Well, after waiting nearly 2 hours, my car was done. I started driving and a couple miles down the road, my check oil light came on. I thought this was odd since I just got the oil changed.

A few seconds after that, the check engine light and battery light came on, my car completely died and I barely made it to the shoulder of the busy highway. As I sat on the shoulder of the highway with tractor trailers speeding by, I wondered to myself how in the world did they screw up an oil change?

I had my car towed to Toyota, since Meineke was obviously incompetent. Toyota advised that Meineke had put on the wrong size cap- it was not screwed on properly so the oil leaked out all over the place, leaving none for my car to run on.

Thank you Meineke for blowing up the engine on my car that was fully paid for. I don't know how you guys stay in business if you can't handle a simple oil change.

If you are considering taking your car to a Meineke- STAY AWAY!

Meineke Car Care Center Botched the job, cost $7,000 to repair

$8, 000 timing belt replacement?! Read on..
Took my wife's Infinity QX4 in for a water pump (first mechanical failure *ever*) at the end of March 2008. They suggested replacing the timing belt and crank seal(s) at the same time. I agreed. 2, 000 miles later (July 5) my wife calls me from the other side of the neighborhood telling me there's an awful noise. I drive over and initially find one belt is off, but when I go to pull it off I find the lower pulley is flopping and loose. Worse yet the bolt holding it on was only finger tight. I was able to remove it without any tools and pulled the pulley off, drove the car 1 block home. When I looked at the pulley I found the key was sheered off inside the pulley keyway, half the key was in the crank and half was in the pulley, and the internal bore of the pulley had a visible taper.
I immediately called the shop and talked to Barry, the manager. He insisted that their work had nothing to do with it, "I'm a certified mechanic with 32 year experience and I know it would not have lasted 2, 000 miles". I asked him 'what do you think?', his reply was that he 'had customers in his shop and didn't have time to talk about it'.
I called 2 Nissan dealers and described the scenario, the first in Blue Springs stopped me in mid sentence to ask "have you had the timing belt replaced lately". When I told him 2, 000 miles ago, he said that if not reinstalled correctly the pulley will work loose, it could take a few thousand miles to happen, but he's seen it in his shop.
I had it towed to my local Nissan dealer (0.8 miles from the Meineke shop) and on Monday the 7th they called me to say the damage was more severe. In fact the crankshaft was damaged and the only cure was a replacement short block... $7, 000 installed. I asked if the recent timing belt replacement was the cause, they said 'there's nothing else to consider but that'.
Since smiley Barry (actually very belligerent) was denying any responsibility I called the corporate office. They were even more useless, but I really wasn't expecting a whole lot, the operator read from a script so I asked for a supervisor and she refused. I asked for a 'formal escallation of the call', she paused, put me on hold, and came back to say her supervisor would not take the call. In a last ditch effort to get something I asked for the contact info for the regional director in charge of Kansas City metro. That request was refused as well. While ending the call I told the operator "Please make this not in the file you send to the regional manager, I want them to call me on my cellphone, do you understand this instruction?" She replied "yes I do". It's 2+ weeks later, and of course no call.
I have since talked to smiling Barry again, he told me to have it towed over and he'd have a look at it. I told him the car is 8/10's of a mile away at McCarthy Nissan and he should go over and look at it. "I'm too busy to leave the shop and do that, I'll have it towed over here for you". I have not yet taken that offer, do I really want a belligerent shop manager to have access to my car without adult supervision? I'm not so sure I do. I certainly would not trust them to replace the engine, they can't even replace the pulley.
So, I paid Meineke $800 to replace the waterpump, timing belt and seals, and due to that job being botched I have another $7, 000 to shell out to fix the collateral damage. Small claims limit in Kansas is $4, 000 so that route is insufficient.
My advise today, don't let ANY Meineke do ANYTHING to your car.

Meineke Car Care Center Terrible experience!

Ridiculously strict on auto inspections and then they try to cheat you out of your money. Failed me for dirty headlights and imperfect windshield wipers. I had replaced the wipers only a month prior. They also failed me on alignment. The car has always run smoothly so I was baffled. Suspecting Meineke was cheating me, I took the car to another shop and showed him my inspection papers. He thought Meineke was being a bit shady all around. Particularly since Meineke had not written down what the reading on the alignment was. The new shop checked the alignment themselves and said it had a reading of 13.4 feet pull. You need a reading of 40 to fail. The shop called Meineke to ask what the deal was. Meineke stated that the front control arm was bent and needed to be replaced otherwise it would continue to pull out the alignment. But on the inspection papers, Meineke had passed the control arm, now they say it has be replaced before it can pass? DO NOT go to Meineke in Glen Burnie. They're the kind of mechanics who try to cheat you out of your money.

Don't go to the Meineke at 662 Artery in Quincy, mass. Some guy named Joe told me that a tune up would cost me $300. When I complained he said that tune ups on newer model cars are $600. On top of it all he was excrutiatingly rude. When I told him there was nothing wrong with my car I just knew it needed the tune up he responded "OK so I can throw a couple of spark plugs in it..." I mean what a creep; the meaning of service is lost on him. Basically he was insisting on finding something 'wrong" with the car so he could charge me the $300. Don't go there.

Meineke Car Care Center Terrible experience

I took my van in to Meineke, on June 8, 2007, to have an ongoing oil leak repaired. This wasn't the first time I took my van in to Meineke for a leak. Meineke had already replaced every hose you can imagine, water pump, radiator, manifold gasket set, and now they recommended I have my oil gasket and transmission gasket replaced. I took it in to have this done on June 8, 2007. Paid 678.46 for the repair. The next day had a worse oil leak. Took it back To Meineke on Monday. They said the oil gasket wasn't seated correctly and repaired it at no charge. The next day I still have a leak. Meineke said it is back splash, just give it a few more days and it will go away. That weekend I put a card board under my van. Sunday the whole card board was covered with oil. Took it back to Meineke on Monday. They kicked me off the property and said never to come back. I was forced to take my van to Alpine GMC. My van makes my living, because I too have a repair company, but I repair residential appliances. Alpine had to repair Meineke's mess. It is printed on their invoice why I was leaking so bad. Meineke had: Put the incorrect material for oil pan gasket, they used the incorrect torque and cracked the oil pan. The oil filter adapter and oil cooler O ring they replaced was leaking. Meineke over tightened the Idler arm nut and damaged the threads. Meineke sealed the transmission gasket improperly.

I filed a complaint but Meineke denies all of it. Meineke has not tried to compensate me for any of the damages done.

Meineke Car Care Center Arrogance was beyond belief!

I had brakes put on my car at the Meineke at 3861 North Druid Hills in Decatur, GA. The shim came off the driver’s side brake. Mr. Brad Augutus refused to replace the shim despite the fact that it was within the warranty on the receipt. He then threw the shim in a garbage can behind his desk. I asked him to return the shim to me. He refused and told me to get it myself. His arrogance was beyond belief on a personal level and shows that Meineke does not promote professional behavior or customer service.

On 11/6/23 I dropped my car off at 48th and Spruce St. My car is still not done and today is 11/16/23 after being told on Monday 11/13/23 that they were finishing up. I am really disappointed and do not think I will not be returning.

An alternator was replaced by Meineke in our Infiniti FX 35. A live wire from the alternator was not claimed down by Meineke technicians. The wire sat on the manifold (hot object) and a fire ensured. Could you help me navigate this situation? The manager would not response to my situation and told me call corporate.

Meineke puts out a coupon for $24.95 for a conventional oil change.

When I went to use it today @ 11AM at my local Meineke, he said he could not honor it because the cost of oil has increased so much that he would lose money if he accepted it.

I think corporate should honor these coupons & refund us the extra $13.54 we paid.

Was promised a free check on my car and still was charged $63.00. I want a refund because no work was done. The cashier
told me to come back on Friday cause their man was not there. I was told it would be free.

I don't believe Meineke doing this.

This was the first time I have my car change oil in Meineke, although I had done some other services before in the same site - S.Plainfield, NJ. I have my car oil changed on 6/8/2007 afternoon. On the way I drove back to home (1 hour away from S. Plainfield), I found AC blower has noise each time I turned to left. I have never has this problem before. The next day (6/9) I had a local garage technician check what was wrong, since it is too far to drive to Meineke #249 in S. Plainfield. The technician told me that the AC drain outlet tube at the bottom of the car was blocked. The tube was folded and plugged in to the hole at car base. That cause a lot of water in the AC unit. I don't have such problem before. I drive my everyday with AC on. It is very hard to access the AC drain tube without those garage equipments. Why, on the earth, do they do this?
