I visited PJ's Auto Village this week and had a most unpleasant experience with a salesman. After the typical "shell game" with the figures I told him that he failed to give us a deal. His response was, "Some people actually think a Mazda is worth the money". I sent him an email to tell him that we purchased our vehicle at another dealership and that we found his tactics to be quite amusing.
This is his response:
"Hello, ****.
I'm sorry you misinterpreted my actions. I was simply trying to give you objective information and probably gave you too much. I'm just curious, does denigrating others make you feel good about yourself? Congratulations on your purchase. " Tom Erickson

My advise to those in the Burlington area looking to purchase a Mazda is to make the trip to Autex Mazda or Walker Mazda where you will be treated with RESPECT!

Resolved

WHY I WILL NEVER BUY A MAZDA AGAIN...! Under 200,000 km... closer to 170,000 and now I will be lucky if a wrecker offers me 500 for my Mazda.

I just had my Mazda MPV serviced about 3-4 weeks ago... told the service manager at my dealership (not Mazda) to make sure everything was tip-top as I was going to be out of town and on the highway a lot! So I didn't want anything to happen... didn't want to end up standing at the side of the highway with a broken-down vehicle. We have always had the vehicle serviced regularly.

But yesterday the plastic tube carrying coolant to the back of the vehicle "apparently" rotted out and the coolant leaked out... The "check" engine light came on when I was on the highway about 5 kilometers from a service station. I thought I could pull in there to find out about it. About 2 kilometers from the station the check engine light started to blink... so I pulled over immediately... smoke poured from the engine.

So there I was standing at the side of a major highway - my worst fear... hoping for help. After about 15 minutes, a kind person gave me a lift to the service station. I then had the van towed to a dealer... 150 dollars. Then the service man at the dealership arranged for a rental car for me... another 25dollars/day plus they want another 16/day for insurance on top of that.

So the service man called me at the end of the day to tell me the engine is completely ruined... I can get a new engine for at least 5,000. Not worth it... but a wrecker "might" give me 500 dollars for the body. He told me also that in spite of my previous servicing of the vehicle... no service technician would have spotted this problem. So tough luck for me and gee whiz I only still owe 6,000 for the vehicle. And I still have to get the bill from the Mazda dealership for their "diagnosis".

Less than 200,000 kilometers... ! What a piece of junk!

So now you know WHY I WILL NEVER BUY A MAZDA AGAIN... AND WHY I WILL WARN EVERYONE THAT I CAN ABOUT IT - IN PERSON - ON BLOGS - WHEREVER... ALL BECAUSE OF A CHEAP PIECE OF PLASTIC TUBING...

BEWARE OF MAZDA!

A few thoughts:

1. You did not take your vehicle to a certified Mazda dealership. Who's to verify the reputability of this service shop and hold them accountable? Certainly you can't expect Mazda to.

2. I'm guessing you're in Canada. Harsh northern climates mean snow, and snow means rock salt, and rock salt means corrosion, which means increased wear on parts like radiators and the hose clamps that attach those "plastic tubes" to them, which transport coolant. It's not uncommon for ANY vehicle to exhibit increased wear of these parts in such conditions.

3. Your vehicle looks like it was purchased used, too, so neither you nor we can be certain it was properly maintained.

5. Used MPV engines do NOT cost $5, 000. Visit www.car-part.com to verify. The fact that the shop owner just happened to know of a "wrecker" (i.e. his friend who sells used cars) that would give you $500 for it speaks to what's really going on here.

6. MOST IMPORTANTLY: When the check-engine light comes on, FOR ANY REASON, shut off the engine and pull over AT ONCE. Your decision to drive those additional 3km are what killed your engine. Plain and simple.
