Discovered that our Kia Sorento had an undiagnosed oil consumption problem when the engine overheated during our cross-country move. First time the engine had ever showed any signs of overheating. The service shop we took it to said there was no oil registering on the dip stick.
When we eventually got it to a dealer in our new home town, they diagnosed a problem with air leakage within the engine and said the engine would need to be replaced.
JM&A was the extended warranty company that the claim was referred to. After 9 WEEKS of waiting, JM&A denied the claim "because the engine was damaged due to overheating." They refused to acknowledge that an undiagnosed oil consumption problem was what caused the engine to overheat in the first place. JM&A preferred to ignore that root cause, and stated that because the engine had overheated, they would not cover the claim. So if you're ever driving down the road and your engine suddenly overheats due to a problem you weren't aware of, JM&A will not cover you. Seems pretty unreasonable to me. Total waste of money on this coverage when they can deny it because a problem with the engine causes it to overheat.
Recommendation: Don't purchase this extended warranty coverage. I wish I would have read the full list of exclusions in a relatively small paragraph in Section V of the contract. It basically excludes just about everything that could happen to your engine through no fault of your own.
