Hillarys Blinds The customer service had bad manor's on the phone and would not help at all with the problem

Well I went online to look at there blinds and I had a look and it said 50% off if you fit and measure them your self so I thought I will have a go at that so my friend measured the door and window I wanted the blinds to go to and I picked the colour and design I wanted anyway paid £70.00 to hilarys on my bank card waited a week they came on the friday over the moon I was glad they came looked at the size of the boxes thought no can't be that size thought to myself the pole must pull out to make them longer so opened them and they were tiny went back on hilary's blinds online and my friend measured in inches when it should of been centremetres so I thought i'm going to ring them because they were that small I could not fit them anywhere else anyway phone the company and the I explained my problem and she just did not want to now I just got a bad manors down the phone she got me so worked up I had to hand the phone to my boyfriend or I was going to cry my boyfriend went on the phone and he told the person on the phone he wanted to speak to the manager the manager got on the phone she tryed turning everything round trying to say he said thinks that he hadn't even sayed because I heard everything they would not give me a refund and even discount on the blinds I bought all they offered was 10% discount on my next order and free delivery I said to my boyfriend there having a laugh.

I will never shop with hilary's blinds again i've spent £70.00 for nothing year's ago they were great there rubbish now : (

yes hillarys blinds are useless never us again the manager who rings up all nice as pie but cant sort anything out with expensive sub contractors installing a simple set of blinds, , he said the complaint just comes back to him the sub contractor even told me that he was useless how hard can it be to drill a few holes charge over £400 and still only got 2 out of 4 blinds fitted, he tells you one thing the fitter tells you another when you tell them they are lying but does nothing but sweep under the carpet, I still here waiting no compensation or refund but I tell you this I will go to trading standards at the very least whats up with this company, , he and the fitter no manners and don't do the job they paid for, , so lets see if this gets to complaints and resolved, no it wont wheres my blinds or money back 3 frigging months disgrace R Howarth from Widnes if you can be bothered sorting

If I worked for them I would be laughing as well..I mean how stupid can you be? You make a mistake and get your measurements wrong then expect someone else to pay for it...Im even more surprised you posted your insane complaint on the www. I suggest returning to school to get you GCSE's may be your next best move...LOL

Doing some research on hilarys to see what there like. I can across your comment and was stunned... Its like putting petrol in a diesel car then moaning to cashier that its not your fault! You got it wrong not them...Stop moaning and be accountable for your mistakes. Slack jawed reading your issue again..Can someone really be this stupid? Not only that stupid but then complain on the internet about there own stupidity..AMAZING!

Hillarys Blinds Shutters

Copy of complaint sent to hillarys:-

Dear sir/madam,

I would like to make a formal complaint about the lack of customer service I have received from your company, the shambolic way my shutters were eventually located and dispatched and finally the unprofessional way the shutters have been fitted.

Initially it took 13 weeks and 27 phone calls to get my shutters delivered.in the end I did manage to speak to a customer services manager, after 4 times being promised one would call me back but never did, and he told me my shuuters were in nottingham still waiting to be dispatched - at this exact moment there was a fitter in my house fitting the shutters! The shutters were being fitted on the day we moved in, which was obviusly not the best day and after the fitter had dropped a whole cup of tea over a table and some clothes he asked me to pay the balance of £1450.00 which I did with no hesitation and he said if there were any problems then we were to phone him and he would come straight back. On checking the shutters later that evening we found that 2 had been put on upside down, one had such a wide gap down one side that you could get your hand in it and see 5 screws and the mitres were not cut at the right angle. To be honest the whole job looked like a diy job and not worth £1650.00.

We contacted the fitter, mark, who said he would come later that week and give us a call back to let us know when. A week later we had not heard anything and after 5 more calls he said he would be with us on monday at 3pm. At 4.30pm he still hadn't arrived so we called him and by the sounds of things he had forgotton (or had no intention of turning up). He arrived about half an hour later and as we were due to go out we left him in the house to rectify the problems. He admitted he had fitted 2 shutters upside down and he said he could see our point about the gap and the screws showing.

On our return one set of shutters did not open at all and the way he had rectified the screw problem was just to remove them which looks just as shoddy a job. We phoned him again and on the 3rd attempt he said he would come today at around 4pm. We phoned at 3pm and he said he was measuring something and he would call us straight back to let us know when he was going to arrive - surprise surprise he has never called back. My husband has now phoned 10 times since then and the call is ignored and does not go to answer maching to enable us to leave a message.

We have therefore paid £1650.00 for 3 sets of shutters - one does open at all, one has a large gap down one side and now screw holes left open and one has mitres that my 19 month old son could have cut better with his bob the buidler saw.

Please please please can someone get back to me and explain where we go from here and if it is ever likely that our shutters will ever work.

I do not want the original fitter, mark from chelmsford, back in my house as I think he is not only a bad fitter but very rude and unreliable. We trusted him enough to leave him alone in our home and yet he can't even return our calls or turn up when he says he is going to.

I am going to make it my mission to leave as many reviews about hilarys as I can on as many review sites as I can as I feel your customer service is disgusting as are your products and your fitting.

we had shutters fittedin conservatory in October after waiting 3 months the door shutters were messaged wrong so had to wait another two months the shutters for the windows caused windows to leak had a window fitter out to check They filled in screw holes and since then no leaks we have been trying to get hillarys to sort this out with have no shutter up now till somebody comes to look at damaged shutter and waiting to have other shutter removed to check for leaks

On 15/9/2010 following a visit from a sales rep, I placed an order with a deposit of £1000. I was given a delivery date of 4-6 weeks and promised that they would be made quickly as Hillarys had own factory in Nottingham. two weeks a later a fitter came for second measurements following which I was told that my chosen blinds did not fit spec so will have to go back to rep and select a new design for conservatory blinds. I was told that porch blinds and bathroom blind spec was OK and that they were being made. I replaced the order with new design (second best!) and was assured that all would be ready asap. However, a few weeks later I had another phone call saying that my chosen blind samples had got lost and I had to start all over again! This I did with further delay and yet again had to make selection despite the fact that I did not like the selection on offer. I was once again alarmed to receive a further phone call from the rep apologising and saying that the sizes did not fit spec. ! She was very apologetic again and said that she was going to send me flowers (where are they?). It is now nearly 3 months since I placed the order and all promises of delivery dates have come and gone!. I have tried to cancel the order but I am not being allowed to. The company is offering a measly £50 compensation on a £2500 order! I still have no idea when my blinds will be fitted and what the post delivery service is going to be like! This whole saga is like a very bad joke!

I placed my order with Hillarys = BIG MISTAKE! The "second surveyor" is unwilling to allocate a time-slot as promised by the "first surveyor" and according to their poor customer service, I am left with two options: accept what I have been allocated (as apparently my area - London - is served only by this surveyor and wait for another 12 weeks or cancel my order (in writing of course...). What a waste of time these people are! I have also received second confirmation of order with wrong details! Definitely not customer-orientated service - next time I will avoid them...

We had one set of shutters fitted by Hillarys a year ago - no problem. Because we liked them so much we then arranged to have them fitted in most of the other rooms - BIG MISTAKE. The fitter allowed his 14 year old son to place the order an he didn't check what his son had typed. This meant after waiting 12 weeks for the shutters to turn up when they did they were the wrong sizes! We then had to wait another 6 weeks for the correct shutters to be sent. These have not been fitted as well as the previous ones. For their part, Hillarys offered us a £200 discount! The shutters still don't fit properly and the after care team are useless. No managers are prepared to speak to customers, you can only speak to advisors. Pathetic. Would I use this company again - NO! Would I recommend this company - no way. We knew they were expensive but chose to use them because we thought they were reliable and responsible. How wrong were we... if I can prevant one person from using Hillarys then I will have saved them a headache.

Couldn't agree more with all of the comnments that I've read - if ONLY I'd read them before we had the work done by Hillarys. Roof blinds were fitted to our conservatory and after a few weeks the strings started to sag. It looked so amateurish - DIY at its worst. We have been contacting Hillarys with depressing regularity since October 2009 to no effect.

I would never ever do any business with these people again - to my mind they are thieves, cheats and liars.

I have to agree! The service from Hillarys is non-existant. It has been this way for several years now from what I've heard & also read elsewhere.
I have been reliably informed that the Sales people recieve the same level of service from the Head Office as the general public get.
It doesn't look good for them in the long run by the looks of it.
I've been on the receiving end of the Hillarys products & I can say the are absolute rubbish.
I'd suggest that you'd be better off supporting a small local business rather go to them.

Hillarys Blinds Country of manufacture

I have asked local advisor which country the headrails for vertical blinds are manufactured.

I was told they are made in nottingham.
I was told the blinds are made to measure.

Both statements are wrong and mis-leading!

The vertical blind headrails are made in china (very cheaply!) and are delivered in pre set widths. They are certainly not made to measure!

Avoid hillarys blinds, poor service, crap quality and fobbed off when trying to make a complaint... I would rather have newspaper at my windows than shop with them again!

You are correct about the headrails from hillarys Blinds. I have delivered thousands of the things. They come in from China in containers in individual boxes and are already made in 1 centimetre ingrements. The warehouse in Washington (tyne and wear) is stacked full of them. I have hade one fitted in my house they are total rubbish. They look cheap compared to the old one they fitted a couple of years ago, they are noisey and they are not the size of my window. The advisor measured my window at 145.5cm wide but the blind is only 144. This is not made to measure is it. I queried this with hillarys an they told me they knock 10mm off to allow for fit, but they have knocked 15mm which means i have a bloody great gap at one end. Awful company, awful service and awful headrail. ADVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

Hillarys Blinds Not recommended

I arranged for Hillarys blinds to come out and give me an estimate for blinds. I ordered in November 2007, after hundreds of telephone calls, the blind arrived in first of week of Jan 2008. This is totally against their advertising which states they fit before Christmas or within 14 days of order. On the day the the blind arrived, the fitter realized just before fitting, that the blinds are of wrong size. This would mean the correct ones would have to be sent for fitting. The fitter had trouble getting through to the company on his mobile. Another week had gone by, I then phoned Hillary's, the telephonist was Wain, he was unhelpful and rude and said that no replacement has been ordered, and suggested whether I want to cancel the order. After waiting all this time he suggests that I cancel the order. I telephoned the fitter, he said he has discussed this with Hillary's and a replacement was ordered.

After many calls to Hillary's almost every day, the fitter arrived with the replacement blind on Jan 31st 2008, and susprise surprise they have sent the same incorrect size blind back. The fitter was furious, he phoned Hillary's straight away, again they were not helpful to him. He was told to contact his area manager to solve this problem. This means further delay for us.

The Company which advertises to fit blinds before Christmas or within 14 days could not fit one blind in 3 months. The service is extremely substandard, I strongly urge people not to get involved with Hillary's Blinds.

I have been let down by Hillarys not fulfilling the order correctly, by the fitter not contacting responding to my calls, and at Hillary's no one returns your calls. Wrong size blind received twice. We are once again waiting for the blind and the fitter to arrive. Will it be the correct size, correct color, will it fit?

Hillary's Blinds advertising is completely misleading and false. What can the consumers do, with this kind of poor service.

Roman blind in bedroom, pulley stopped working on side and when removed the plastic casing has a split in it, phoned hillary about getting a repair to it waas told that it was discontinued so no replacement part.They said after 4 yrs. old they wont repair them, you will have to buy new blind.The blind was fitted & yrss ago and was only used twice a day, and if they dicontinude that type what was wrong with it and why no spares from them.searched online found spare part to repair blind.Appalling quality for an expensive blind.Would use this company again.

OMG I ordered Sept 1700.00 shutters had to call numerous times till dec as tey promised to fit before 20th dec .

The fitter came with a friend and was so unprofessional put the shutters up realised two missing now Iam still waiting end of sept for the two other [censored]ters.
I call every other day and its like I am emailing and calling for the first times each time no one seems to know where the fitter he seems to be off sick a lot and not one knows if the missing shutters are in his lock up or just wasn't ordered. if any one knows who I should contact please let me know I know I am not leaving this go easy I'm absolutely pissed off with the customer service people have asked me how Hilary's are I am afraid this situation and reading the above has tarnished all the good I though of Hilary's.

No one calls me back unless I email and that is just to say some one will call me back!

I have also had problems with Hillary’s customer Service, firstly, I made two separate payments for my order just shy of £2k, now they have realised they may not have taken the full amount, well, they should keep a track of the balanced is paid on the last payment which was only two, then they said snooty emails, I’ve provided evidence of payment, no acknowledgement back from Hilary’s customer service, then get another snooty email. What makes it worse I’ve noted the fitters fixed the blinds to the UPVC Windows, which is not ok, secondly, the blind in the bathroom, was incorrect colour, the fitters didn’t even note this! now I could have kicked off about it but I didn’t, however, from my recent experience of rude customer service, I making this experience public. Do not use Hillary’s, due to poor fitting, poor customer service, in terms of mathematical skills(adding things up) and their emails.

No apology so far from Hillary’s.

Hillary's blinds in Ireland are just as bad. I ordered 3 sets of Roman blinds 2 years ago, one set was to have a special padding which I paid extra for. The padding wasnt in the blind and I was told I would get a refund - no offer to fix the problem - refund arrived 6 months later. The main bedroom blind has broken 3 times so far. On the last visit the fitter said the problem was in the manufacture and he would take them away - he rang the main office in my presence and they said 3 weeks to repair - I have a black sheet on the window now for 3 months and the fitter has gone AWOL, wont answer his phone, I got onto customer service EVENTUALLY last week (phone lines are always down) was told they would chase it up and call me back - NOTHING.. phone lines down again yesterday and today and the UK refuse to even speak to an Ireland customer. The living room blind broke 2 days after the fitter was last here and is stuck half way - I was told he would repair it when he came back with the repaired blind. So no fitted, blinds have gone missing, cannot get through to customer service - its a shocking way to run a business.

Ordered some shutters from Hillary's in July said they wouldn't b ready till October now it's November to fit. Rang to change order to roller blinds instead won't do it. Also only found out from calling that the shutters are apparently made in America! Never told me that before or I wouldn't have bothered in the first place! Happy to take your money & leave you waiting months & months! Bad service, don't tell you everything & fob you Off!

Hillarys blinds customer service falls very short!
I have had hillarys blinds in my house for many years with no complaints.
However my recent experience of dealing with their customer service leaves a sour taste in my mouth and I will never use or recommend them again.
I recently had a very pleasant salesman come out and measure up for a venetian blind for a fairly large bedroom window. I said that I preferred to have something easily wipeable and preferably in the sale.
I have metal blinds throughout my house which have served me well over the years. however it was suggested that the pvc coated blinds would be the most appropriate for my needs. I certainly liked the look of them but of course only had a very small sample to look at.
Bearing in mind that I am only about 5' and weigh only seven and a half stone and the window is quite large, at no point did the salesman mention to me that this blind would be heavy!
The blind was duly fitted and all seemed fine until I tried to pull it up and let it down. it was amazingly heavy and I could not manage it.
I told customer services about my plight and also mentioned that I am recently widowed and have some health problems but the response I received was cold and uncaring saying that I had received the blind I had ordered and my personal situation was not their concern and nor should it be necessary for the salesperson to tell me how heavy the blind would be... I should know that for myself! yes... from a small sample?
Now I am stuck with a £140 blind that I can neither pull up or down!
Be warned: do not buy these blinds unless you are are strong enough to operate them... stick to the metal.

I have had lots of problems with Hillarys, I've actually spent £1250 on shutters which have been delivered the wrong colour! They are point blank refusing to do anything about it. Ive never been so frustrated and annoyed about anything in my life! They have delivered the wrong colour but because ethe paperwork matches the order then they wont do anything! £1250 wasted! Ive contacted the ombudsman and my credit card to try and recover the money. Shocking company. Will never ever use again.

We had blinds fitter to the front of our house by Hillarys in November 2015. In early 2016 we noticed a couple of the blinds had started fraying so we rang the person Hillarys sent along to us when we first enquired about their blinds. He took our order and fitted the blinds and has always been our contact with Hillarys. When we complained to him about the fraying he said he would get it sorted with Hillarys. Over the next 6 months we had to call him several times and in the end contacted Hillarys direct. They did not want to know because their warranty is only for 1 year and they claimed we had not raised our complaint until July 2016. We disputed this and asked them to contact their salesman who during the past 6 months had spoken and visited with us several times and had even taken photos of the damaged blinds. They said he had not raised the matter with them and claimed they had tried twice to speak to us-when we called them about this they revealed they had called us on a "withheld number" phone and we explained that we had a call blocker on that was why they could not get through. They are just not interested and have left us with £1000 worth of blinds we are far from happy with.

Did you get any where with your complaint? Im in the middle of trying to get my money back (or a replacement) for the shutters they have delivered which are the wrong colour. they are refusing to do anything though. Its awful.

Do not buy from Hillarys - their Shutters do not work after the guarantee period is up...they are rude when you try to address - and then offer you a voucher to buy more faulty products from them...STAY AWAY

They fitted shutters for me so badly that I can now no longer open my balcony door. They never came to fix the problem despite endless phone calls. Anyone know what rights we have to against these people? I feel totally ripped off!

Still waiting for shutters to be fitted. 6 months thale b fitted thay said wudnt give me my deposit back sent someone round to fit shutter who I had to ask did he work for hillarys he had nooooo idea what to do but then shutters were faulty. Woman leanah on phone was rude Neva Neva Neva have anything to do with this company

Hillarys Blinds What's happened to good service?

I placed an order for shutters with Hillary's on 17th April. I was informed by the rep that they would be 6-8 weeks. After 16 weeks of not hearing anything I contacted the Customer Care line (26th July) to be told that they had "they have just arrived in the country today". When I asked what had taken so long the adviser who I must add was very nice (Sherry-Anne) said that she didn't know.

I asked why had I not been contacted about the delay and she said that she had no idea as they wasn't anything on the screen. The adviser also informed me that me order had been changed by the manufacturer as it wasn't practical (I had ordered what the sales rep had suggested). I then left two messages on the sales reps phone, one on his land-line and one on his mobile, this was on the 26th July. I also sent an e-mail to shutters team via the e-mail address given on the order form. As I hadn't received a reply by yesterday the 31st July I rang customer service again and spoke to the same adviser (who again was very good). I explain that the shutters were now 10 weeks over due and I was seriously concerned about the lack of contact from Hillary's and she informed me that she would leave a message on the sales reps phone. Sherry-Anne came back to me to inform me that his answer machine was on, so the sales rep "may be away on holiday" (a little surprised that the organization doesn't know when staff are on holiday) I then asked for an e-mail address to register a complaint. The adviser kindly gave me a different e-mail address which I sent an e-mail to. My e-mail was deleted today without being read. Tomorrow I will take this further. What's happened to good service?

Absolutely shocking service! I placed an order for several window and door shutters in June, 2021! Still waiting 17 months later for last door! Windows were made wrong and door shutters apparently lost! Not quite the standard I’d expected for price… some shutters not sprayed aswell as others and few small chips to corners & gaps in framework! Was extremely upset to find that my kitchen shutter was obviously damaged on corner and had been touched in with paint that remained tacky for several days. Wall and furniture damaged… Hillary’s not interested! Not what I’d expected! Customer service terrible. Would never recommend or use again.

I would most certainly not recommend using this company to anyone, as they have had the most appalling and disorganised customer service I have ever experienced. I wanted to order a blackout blind for my 1 year old's bedroom - it has been over two months since I first contacted Hillarys and nothing has been sorted, due to a ridiculous number of confusions with appointments, lack of record keeping, differences between the website and reality and crossed wires between their staff. I have decided to go with a local blind company, even though the blinds are twice as expensive.

I have also had to complain to Hillary's as my blinds have been fitted incorrectly/they should have been made up to 0.53cm but arrived all at different lengths, they promised to call again on Saturday 22/10/16 with the newly made up ones but never turned up. They cost me £233.00 like a fool I paid in full

Took half day off work to see rep, never turned up or called. When I called and was put through, he said he was miles away and could rearrange. I went mad on the phone and ended up hanging up. Dreadful service. Will not recommend at all.

I could not agree more I bought Hillary's shutters that I thought were really expensive they where not fit properly my carpet was damaged( they did give me small refund for that) the shutters look badly fitted everyone asks me why there are gaps all around them, and now 10 months later I have had to get in touch with them because every time I open them wide to clean windows one of them falls off I have to try to lift it back on.The only reason I went to Hillary's is I saw there video that said they have great service fully qualified fitters and great reputation, What a load of rubbish I would never use them again, it is also very hard to get in touch with them.Kay

I have just had dealings with Hillarys, what a nightmare from start to finish on the day that they were supposed to be fitted nobody turned up and when I called I was told that they were booked in for an evening fitting which was rubbish as the sales person knew that I would not be home in the evening but if I was going out to take my mobile and he would call me, did he heck, phoned Saturday morning to find out what was happening but
( CUSTOMER SERVICE ) go home on Friday at 5pm but you can leave a message on no you can not as the message machine is full, This went on for a few more days and the blinds were booked to be fitted on Wednesday evening ( result ) but no when I got home on TUESDAY evening there he was fitting the blinds, if my grandson had not decided to pop in to see me there would have been nobody there to et him in, so the customers that he should have visited on Tuesday well who knows, AND THEN WEDNESDAY MORNIING A CALL HROM HILLARYS TO ENQUIRE WHEN WOULD I LIKE MY BLINDS FITTED, I rest my case.

Never trust any company who have a continuous "sale", there is a reason they are cheap, its because they are "cheap". National companies such as Hillarys and Thomas Sanderson use self employed freelance people many of whom will use awful sales pressure until you order. Get a better product at a good price and great service and keep you high street alive buy buying from a local independent retailer. Shop where you house is not where your mouse is.

I made a appointment with Hillary a week ago and asked them to come this morning to do measurement for curtains and blinds for the whole house. I specially said that I was in our old house10 minutes away and the rep has to call on his way. However, no call. Saw a note they posted through letterbox and called the rep. He said he is in a nearby town and will text me after doing his current measuresment but he never called. Rubbish service. I told the morning off just for this and I am sorry, they will not have our business.

I am yet another disgruntled customer. I am only sorry that I didn't read all the reviews about this company before I ordered ! Having dealt with them before on 2 occasions ( Roman Blinds & Shutters) I thought I was dealing with a reputable company. I think the measure of good customer service is how they deal with things when something goes wrong. On previous dealings there had been no problems. Previously I had dealt with the sales person and the fitter. Both of whom very Knowledgeable, courteous and professional. I had not had the misfortune of interaction with the customer service team. This time, having placed my order with a different salesman but equally Knowledgeable, courteous and professional I paid just over £1, 000 up front (balance due on fitting) and was told the fitter would be in touch soon (within 72 hours) to take the exact measurements etc. After 3 weeks I had still not heard anything I began to chase it up. That was the start of my experience with the customer service team. They did not ring without being chased up several times and then excuses about the fitters all being on holiday. I said, what for a whole month! No-one had thought it courteous to explain there might be a delay. I was asked ' You do know how long it takes for shutters?' before I'd explained that no-one has yet taken the measurements! I was put through to 3 different people and then put on hold for so long the battery in my phone died. I waited for the person to ring me back but they didn't so I rang back, waited in a queue for a further 15 mins. I was then told someone would ring me back, which they did only to tell me they couldn't get hold of the right person because she 'd gone out for lunch. Just before 3pm I received a call with yet more excuses and was told she couldn't get hold of a fitter and was due to go home for the day so she'd ring back tomorrow. When I commented that Hilary's customer service was diabolical and a shambles, she replied that it was a wonderful company to work for and that she had been there 22 years. Well, I pointed out that Good Companies are also concerned about keeping the customer happy. Then she said I'm sorry you are wound up but I have to go and will ring you tomorrow. We will see if she does indeed ring back.
I have since spoken with the Salesman (Self employed, not an employee of the Company) who has been extremely supportive and helpful and he is trying to sort things out.
I now feel unhappy about dealing with this company, however. They have promised the shutters will be ready by Christmas. I would not bet on it. Hillarys make a big play about reputation etc. and they are not cheap.The Customer Service really lets the Company down.

Hillarys Blinds Incompetence

I have emailed hillarys blinds concerning a demand letter that they have sent to an aged couple, and have caused them concern and has really upset them. I emailed David Hanley twice, but he has not had the courtesy to reply to me. The demand is of their making and their incompetence. Can you please help me and asked them to make contact.

Our blinds have developed a fault. I rang Hillarys and was told that it is out of guarantee and they don't have a repair service. They repair within the 1-year guarantee. They also offer a 2-year 'Peace of Mind' as an extra whereby they come but you pay for parts. After that, no service whatsoever, even if you are willing to pay for it.

Initial installation was fine, but no aftersales after 12 months for a chargeable repair, which I find unacceptable after spending over £2000
