Havertys FurnitureTheir high prices from an employee's point of view

I have been employed with Havertys for 2+ years. I see how much mark up is with the furniture we sell. This amount is outrageous.

If you take a table w/4chairs that cost $999.00 on the floor, Haverty's cost for that item is $249.00. A Queen Serta mattress that costs $1099.00 on the sales floor costs Haverty's $399.00.

This is only 2 examples of what I see on a daily basis and I believe this truly needs to change. Haverty's now has a no "haggle" policy so that everyone must pay the same "mark-up" price across the board.

    come on over to FOS Furniture! Corner of Delprado and Pine Island Rd. Cape Coral. We have an A+ rating with the better business bureau. We stand by what we sell. Ask for me, Anne, I will be glad to help you out.

    Poor service by the store, salesperson, and especially customer service. We purchased a coffee table Jan 1. It was delivered without the four panes of glass. They ordered replacements but after two weeks only one pane arrived. They ordered it again but this time after two weeks only two arrived. They ordered again but after two more weeks I have not seen the missing pane. So now I have a coffee table with a whole in the middle making it unusable. I have ask them to pick up the table and refund my money without success. At this point I will Never buy from Haverty again.

    After reading all the complaints about Havertys it makes me realize they did me a favor by letting me go. After 7 years working for them they fired me after I just lost my baby due to a miscarriage, after I missed a week of work to recover; not only did I call in everyday to tell them I was not able to come in, but the manager at the time who never came to work herself was not in, so I had to relay the message to the assistant manager. Somehow it must have gotten lost in translation because when I returned to work I was fired immediately! Haverty's not only does not take care of their customers, but their employees as well. I further learned that a salesman who was pining for my position way before I left was given my job... "Sounds fishy to me... politics!" Like I said, they did me a favor because who wants to work or buy from a company who lost their tradition? JJ Haverty would be disgusted with the way his company has turned out!!! Firing a woman just after she lost her baby, and not even caring (that is what hurt the most) Being loyal to a company only to have them turn their back on you. Word of advice their mark-up is well over 50%, their products are outdated... (they have had the same pieces of furniture since I started working for them), their customer care is ridiculous, and their treatment of their employees is unethical. Shop somewhere that at least has up-to-date products.

    Wow..I not jumping sides or anything, but I think most businesses have a mark up of atleast 70%. That's to cover bills, employment, fuel, etc.. But at the sametime, with today's economy I wonder sometimes why they don't have a lesser mark-up. I mean let's face it, profit is profit! As long as you're not losing money should be the most important thing. I bought some furniture from Ashley's and I know what I paid for it is way less then what the company get it for, especially since they're supposively the ones that are making the furniture. But society is so use to paying top dollar for name brand that its the norm. I understand both sides to this Haverty dispute but the fact of the matter is that people are still purchasing furniture from them even with the high mark-up. So maybe that's why they're not going down on prices. Maybe they will lose their reputation if they take their prices too low. We will never know! But as far as paying for furniture and NOT receiving them is totally unacceptable! I dont care which furniture store its from. If you paid for the merchandise and its suppose to be delivered then it should be delivered at the time and date agreed upon or there should be some sort of compensation for the set back. That's just good old fashion business to me. I have a membership to buy items at factory prices and let me tell's true about the mark-up! But I don't suggest anyone to pay $3000-$5000 to become a member unless you're building a house from the ground up and furnishing it as well! But I wonder, what company makes Haverty's furniture if they don't make it??

    It's not just about Haverty's furniture mark-ups, but they have a habitual habit of covering up, selling and delivering damaged furniture. Their BBB report looks like they are one of the most reputable furniture companies in the industry, what a laught!

    Everyone that has been taken by Haverty's needs to file a complaint, no matter how long it has been if the matter was not resolved. A pettition needs to be signed and sent to the attorney generals office in every city they are established.

    Oh, by the way to the smart xxx who refers to Haverty's as being fair with respect... A lot of you employees willingly participate in what you know to be wrong doing by this company, i'ts like you "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." I guess the set hourly pay and commissions is worth your own dignity and self respect you should have not only for yourselves, but others as well. REMEMBER WHAT YOU GIVE OUT TO OTHERS PERSONALLY AND PORFESSIONALLY > IS WHAT YOU RECEIVE BACK !

    I went online to view my havertys email and spotted these remarks, now here is my opinion...Attention Havertys Customers...Yes you do have a choice, because we know you are an intelligent and savvy buyer. You come to us, for our quality reputation, for our furnture also for the FAIRNESS and RESPECT we offer to our customers. I dare you to come into our store in will be greeted and appreciated like an old fashion turn of the century Havertys.Kindness and respect are such a lacking quality in todays society. Im proud to say i work with some of the best people in the furnture business...Because we do enjoy and appreciate our customers and you will feel that, when you walk into our store...As for the comment on quailty, it may not be the exact same as it was in our grandparents day but what try to find anything now that compares to our ancesters time ..Im sorry you had a bad experience working with Havertys but REMEMBER WHAT YOU GIVE OUT TO OTHERS PERSONALLY AND PORFESSIONALLY > IS WHAT YOU RECEIVE BACK ...GIVE LOVE, GET LOVE.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Futhermore, to go on line to put us down is very, very must be in alot of pain i will pray for you to have this animosity leave your heart Im so sorry.but im sure you are a good person and in your heart of hearts i know you truly didnt mean what you wrote .The rest of us that work for Havertys, are trying to deal with life to the best of our abilities for ourselves and our familys. We are still one of the best companies out there. I can honestly say they we do treat our customers better then any other company i've seen. However, long before i came to work for havertys i dealt with them as a consultant on behalf of my clients, having shopped at other stores with my clients .Havertys brought satisfaction and closure to my clients challenges and situations, which occur when youhave bring human error ... Remember when we have manufacture issues that with the worlds situation economically and politcially, furniture companies are doing their best to keep up with there when a piece of furniture is delayed its not the companies fault usually the ball got dropped from a manufacture supplier, so have patience. we dont get paid our commisions til you are happy at home nestlng in your new furniture with your feet up by the fireplace Therefore in inclusion let me say. im not getting any thing out of this in fact to me its not the about money, but rather the people that walk in to our door that need not only our furniture but want to be respected and treated like a human being. They may or may not buy from you but they will truly remember your kindness and Havertys. my slogan i say to my customers, , feels like home..because we all( our world)are in this together ... keeeeeeeep positive and smile even if you have to fake it eventually youre grow to like it.

    Haverty's sucks! I can't say that I have experienced poor product quality because I have never received any of the products that I have purchased. First experience, a day bed. Eight months and gave up waiting for it. The store in Lakeland, Florida never could give me an exact delivery date. Took another chance and ordered a twin-size bed (you're absolutely right about large markup, pal - $1200.00 for a twin-size bed - nothing special about it). Anyway, I gave them a deposit and waited an entire month. When the expected delivery date came and went, I called them to see if the bed had come in so they could deliver it to me. They are still waiting for a part of the bed to be delivered. They said it would be AT LEAST another two weeks, so I canceled the order. Two orders and 9 months and still no furniture. HAS ANYBODY EVER RECEIVED ANY FURNITURE FROM HAVERTY'S? Some drug dealer must be keeping the air conditioning running and the lights on either that or President Obama has bailed them out too!!!

    i guess you didnt make much huh, i bet you'vednever bought furniture in you life if you think a table and four chairs for the price of $1, 000 is too much if you cant pay sticker price wait untill the stoe has a sale which will some times have a 20% discount.

    Apparently this person does not understand the company he/she works for. Or any company as far as that goes. This mark up is true in all companies, where does your salary come from, who pays for the gas to deliver this furniture, light bills, freight bills to get said furniture from point A loading dock to point B and to your dock. You are even paying more at the gas pump while oil companies are getting filthy rich. This is one of the reasons for your increase in prices for delivery etc...
    Think before you speak, hopefully you are no longer in employment of such a wonderful company.
    Any employee that would go online and write a complaint about the company that is putting a roof over your head and food on your table, SHAME ON YOU. If it is that big of a concern then you should go elsewhere. Oh by the way go work in a jewelry store and see what the mark up is.

    Let me start off by saying that no one should ever shop at Haverty's and here are reasons why.

    1: Furniture markup--- Haverty's furniture is so tremendously marked up far more than any other furniture store. Take a piece that costs $999.00 in the store, Haverty's cost only $249.00. A piece selling for $1, 999.oo, again Haverty's cost is $599.00. A King Tempur-pedic Mattress that sells for $3, 199, Haverty's paid only $1, 299.00. You can buy 80%-90% of their product from another store if you know who makes it and all you have to do is just ask. They may give you the bull that it is a Haverty brand (Haverty's does not make any of their product).

    2: Quality of product--- Haverty's product is not the best by comparison. I have seen so many returns because of the unit falling apart or just being delivered damaged. You

    3: Delivery cost--- Haverty's has raised their delivery charge from $49.95 to $199.99-$699.99. If anyone pays this, then shame on you.
