My husband was officially deemed a 100% disabled veteran in December 2024. In January 2025, he filed and confirmed receipt of all necessary forms with our mortgage company to receive benefits under the California State Law for Disabled Veterans. Despite contacting Freedom Mortgage numerous times to adjust our taxes under the California Disabled Veterans Act, we have been told month after month to continue paying the regular mortgage. We were assured that once the adjustments were made, the mortgage company would reimburse us. However, a year has passed, and nothing has been done.
With my husband no longer working and being 100% service-connected disabled, it is challenging to continue paying the same monthly mortgage amount. We have calculated our mortgage payment under the new adjusted taxes and impounds, and we should be paying $2,037.09 a month instead of the $2,185.36 we are currently paying. The lack of action from the mortgage company is concerning, as they have not provided a solution or adjustment of our taxes as mandated by law.
This raises a question for @Stanley Middleman.: Is this the legacy you want for your company? A company that does not uphold the rights of our veterans and fails to comply with the laws designed to support them
Recommendation: Do not use this mortgage company to service your home loan, especially if you are a veteran.
