This is the worst bank ever! We are so sick and tired of seeing messages in our online account that say due to high message volume, there will be "extended delays" for a response from the bank. They're charging us $150 a year for their unreliable online banking service ($75 per checking account).
When I called the bank, I was put on hold for 45 minutes but was rudely hung up on. When I called back, I had to wait another hour and 15 minutes, just to be told the bank couldn't help me. The woman was cold and unfriendly.
Worst of all, when I recently wrote a check for $40,000 to deposit the money into my credit union, First Hawaiian Bank just canceled the check as "Return to Maker" without a word to us. All the bank needed to do was contact me and my wife to verify the check, but they didn't bother to do their jobs. The most important job is the one that doesn't get done.
My wife and I took the time to go down to our credit union in Florida with a check for $40,000, but an employee at First Hawaiian Bank just rejected the check without a reason. Nobody from First Hawaiian Bank informed us! The credit union called and said our check for $40,000 had bounced even though there was plenty of money in our account.
First Hawaiian Bank in Hawaii (our branch is in Maite on the island of Guam) is an incompetent bank. We moved from Guam to Florida in 2021, but still kept our accounts open. We will be closing both of our checking accounts at First Hawaiian Bank over this abuse. Enough is enough! We've had it with these unhelpful, incompetent and uncaring people. I wouldn't trust these individuals to run a hotdog stand!
Recommendation: RUN from this place!
