First Hawaiian Bank FHB Substandard Service

November 3, 2023

To whom it may concern:

Since October 7, 2023 we have not had use of our credit card machine. Efforts to get assistance from the 1st Hawaiian Bank in Saipan on Beach Road has been a total waste of effort.

My next step is to publicly post my plight on social media online and to local newspapers. Since 1st Hawaiian Bank ignores my plight, I will get the satisfaction of providing negative publicity.

Additionally, I have already started reminding my customers of the reason they cannot use a credit card.

I have been a customer of FHB for over 35 years. I don’t know what has been going on lately, but I feel like i am going to have to change banks. It seems clear that the policies and procedures of the bank and its own interests are far more important that its customers. Here are some of the issues: 1. Whose bright idea was it to remove privacy barriers at...

First Hawaiian Bank First Hawaiian Bank closed my checking account and gave my balance to the Saipan govt w/o telling me!

First Hawaiian Bank closed my checking account and gave my balance to the Saipan govt w/o telling me! They put my account into dormant situation. I have had non-activities with my checking account before, and what they did in the past was to charge me $5/month and usually refunded as soon as I called customer service. But this time, they closed my account and gave the balance away! I had over $700. I called their customer service number and they said they would help me get my account and balance back and They claimed that they contacted the Saipan branch (where I opened my account) and they will contact me but i have not been contacted by any of them for 2 weeks now! They just ignored me and my issue!

First Hawaiian Bank I had a car loan from First Hawaiian Bank and paid the loan by direct deposit from my checking account

I had a car loan from First Hawaiian Bank and paid the loan by direct deposit from my checking account. FHB said they could not make the last payment by direct deposit because the amount was different from the previous amounts that were paid without a problem. They sent me a letter to pay the last payment, but the letter was dated after the last payment was overdue. I went to the bank and paid by check. They sent an overdue notice to the various credit agencies and that reduced by credit score and my wife's score, by a lot. It was an unfair practice because I had no way to know that the last payment would not be by direct deposit and when I was finally notified by letter, after the due date, I paid immediately.

We were charged a late charge but were not notified by a billing statement. We never authorized an e-statement for billing, therefore, we need to have the late charge reimbursed and expunged from our credit report. We have paid the late charge and are up to date on our billing.

First Hawaiian Bank I was a customer of First Hawaiian while I was a resident of Hilo, HI

I was a customer of First Hawaiian while I was a resident of Hilo, HI. In 2015, I moved to the mainland and closed my First Hawaiian bank account. To my knowledge, my account was brought to a $0 balance and closed before I moved away from Hilo, HI. I received a notification that I have a delinquent account from First Hawaiian. I was never called or left a voice mail about this debt. In never received any correspondence about this debt in the mail. Had I known about this debt, I would have gladly paid any debt I owed. I do not think that it is fair that this company can report this as delinquent, with out have given me an opportunity to pay it before they report it to collections. First Hawaiian should allow me to pay this debt and recall it from any credit bureaus.

First Hawaiian Bank First I was scammed by a fraud check I received from a company I was working for remotely; yes, I realize that it's stupid now

First I was scammed by a fraud check I received from a company I was working for remotely; yes, I realize that it's stupid now. Especially during this time, you can trust no one. I honestly should've known that buying gift cards and sending them to a vendor was a scam at first, but I figured because it showed up in my account it was okay. Anyway, I deposited the two checks I received, and they were approved! Apparently it didn't clear yet according to the bank! Also, if you deposit a check they can tell you months even years later that you're responsible for the overdraft. I will no longer be using anything related to FHB in the future! I actually had a fraud on my account before through another bank and they helped me through the whole process. FHB gives no care in the world, you're responsible and the other persons account you have access to is now responsible as well.

This letter is in reference to subject letter (as attached) re informing subject parties in the exercise of First Hawaiian Bank's (FHB) contractual right to close our credit card account no. xxxxxxxxxxxx *** due to inactivity effective May 31. Said letter has only arrived in our mailbox May 21.
Our credit card account with FHB has been opened and active since 2005 with no adverse notices or complaints from FHB that we are delinquent or having any infractions in our credit card account. In fact, we do not owe FHB any monies which is a way of building up our credit with FHB over the years. The least we can expect from them after all those years is just to call our attention that we need to use their credit cards to be in full standing with them. In actuality, our on-going relationship has been an implied approval by FHB over the years that "not using their cards" was not an illegal infraction pertaining to our relationship with them. In fact, it is a way of building up our credit with them by not being a reckless user of their cards.
The least we can expect from FHB is to warn us for not using their cards. It is not a problem for us to switch from another card to FHB's credit cards just to comply with their requirements.
Now, FHB is asking us to reapply for the same credit cards again confirming their intention to renew businesses with us. This is according to a "Janette" in charge of our FHB account in a telephone conversation with her yesterday.
After building our credit with them for about 15 years, now FHB is requiring us to reapply for the same credit cards again. It is quite tedious, unfair and demeaning.
Certainly, no notices were given to us terminating our cards prior to termination date. It has been an implied understanding over the years that FHB has no need to notify us. From the start in 2005, there has been no awareness from our part that we have had a contractual agreement to use their cards within a two year period. We just sign on the dotted lines like everybody else. Now, FHB is requiring us to apply again for their cards.
We only ask for fairness in our relationship with FHB. The years of building our credit with them appears to be forfeited. Is this an oversight of management? Constructive criticism is sometimes helpful to big banks overlooking the fine business terrain trusting us to be their happy clients.
For your consideration, Thank you.

First Hawaiian Bank I'm a long time and excellent FHB customer

I'm a long time and excellent FHB customer. A few days ago I made my FHB mortgage payment online. By mistake, I transferred funds from my FHB credit card instead of from my FHB savings account, to make the payment. I immediately called customer service and was told the cc payment could be reversed, but I should pay the mortgage payment again, from my savings account, as originally intended. Now I've paid my mortgage IN ADVANCE! I was told this would trigger a reversal of the cc payment and I should write to customer service to ask this be done. CS wrote back that they were not able to reverse the cc payment. A refund of the savings account payment was offered, but I feel I was coerced to pay more than was due and misled to believe the cc payment would be reversed. This is bad faith and deceit at the least, and I feel fraudulent, usurious and the wrong way to treat people trusting in their financial institution.

First Hawaiian Bank I'm writing in regards to my car loan with First Hawaiian Bank (FHB)

I'm writing in regards to my car loan with First Hawaiian Bank (FHB). I paid off the full amount of my car loan yester*** afternoon and the money was taken out of my checking account to***. When I logged onto the FHB app, the loan was still active and not paid off. I then called FHB customer service and was informed that it would take 3-5 business ***s to post on my FHB account and at that time, I would still be charged a daily interest rate. This is an unacceptable practice and it is outright stealing. I paid off my loan, and I shouldn't have to pay a penny more because FHB takes nearly a week to post a transaction. We are nearly a quarter of the way into the 21st century, there is no excuse why electronic payments are slower than sending a check by the USPS. The customer service representative informed me that she spoke to a loan officer and assured me that I, specifically, would not be charged more interest for my loan since I paid it off. If thousands of people are experiencing what I experienced to***, and they do not fight for their money, this institution will make an exorbitant amount of money from those who have paid off their loan in full. It is unacceptable, and immoral.

First Hawaiian Bank I was assauled and robbed

I was assauled and robbed. in my purse it contain my safety deposit keys for my safety deposit box at first Hawaiian Bank. Nowhere in the contract doess ait state they'll charge me $250 to pop the lock and insert new locks and rekey. $200 to pop the locks add $50 to rekey the box ..that's absolutely outrageous especially since I have a police report proving that I was robbed I called the local commercial key company SALTZ that usually probably handles all these accounts and they said it's only cost $70 to do that including the keys. I understand a fee for an employee's time to stand there while they do this and they said it take 20 minutes max I'm happy to pay it hours wage of what they paid their clerks at the bank and I'm sure it's not $200. I AM A DISABLED INDIVIDUAL MY INCOME PER MONTH RIGHT NOW IS $350 CASH I RESIDE IN A HOMELESS SHELTER WHILE I'M WAITING FOR MY SOCIAL SECURITY. Records will show at the bank that I have not accessed my safety deposit box since I was robbed and I can provide police report numbers etc My bank account is that the Chinatown Branch but my safety deposit box is at the King Liliha Branch... Since I had open a new bank account when I was robbed as well. The solution to this problem is to meet somewhere in the middle and $250 is outrageous and unaffordable to me.
