DTE Energy over charging

DTE has even charging me anywhere from $120 to $150 a month for electricity and vase in my apartment. I knew it was far too much and they kept blaming it on usage but I am often away on business. I was away for 2 whole months with all utilities off ( I click hair conditioning) and I come back to the same expensive bills. The company keeps putting the burden of proof on me. I was in a different apartment for a long time in Mi ands was there everyday and never had a bill over $30 a month. This seems so unethical and they know that they are doing it and are not trying to fix it. I want to go to the news outlets. I can't be the only one having this issue.

DTE Energy work not completed

Supervisor not completing work order agreed to. Work that was done by their subcontractors is not code after two different crews came out. Other line is also not code and they won't correct the issue. Legal action is the next step I believe i will have to take to get resolved if they don't correct within the month.

DTE Energy electric/gas price gouging

DTE has a monopoly over the detroit metro area energy supply acquisition. There is nobody that is competing with DTE in Garden City and my Bills in the winter average 350 and in the summer average $250. I cannot afford such a huge chunk from my SSD and hope that by filing this complaint action can be taken to some way some how either bring in competing business to force DTE to lower rates or make DTE reduce their energy supply costs. DTE rubs it in my face that I am among the 1% that have had the most usage of gas and electric and was subsequently being charged the most.

DTE Energy power loss from nov. 17th storm

Storm hits Sunday night and power is lost along with the other 599, 999 people in lower Michigan. Fine, that is expected at times. After a few hours, the estimated restorion time was 11:30PM Monday night. Ok, not a big deal and managable. This is where it goes south;

Monday night around 7PM, a text update is received, pushing things back to Tuesday night @ 11:30PM. Not ideal but still bearable.
Tuesday morning while at work, receive another text update indicating my work order is complete and power is restored. Great, ahead of plan. Try to call my answering machine to confirm...no answer. No answer = no power. I had to re-report my outage. Update a short while later indicates 11:30PM again. Early evening another update received stating my repair will be completed within an hour. This update remains in affect through Wednesday, blowing right past the previous Tuesday night estimate. It's finally updated again and pushed to Wednesday @ 11:30. Again, this is not met and now it's Thursday with still no power restored so far. Latest update is for 11:30PM tonight. I'm not buying it, they've been wrong every time.

I'm not ticked about no power, I am ticked about the poor poor piss poor communication from this company. I now have a couple thousand dollars worth of food that is spoiled and rotten in my fridge, freezer and deep freezers. If they would have simply provided an estimate of say Friday right off, I could have planned accordingly. Instead I was fed bad information and pushed back every day until things were past the point of no return and it's all spoiled and rotten.

Hey DTE - Ever Hear of Under Promise and Over Deliver? This makes for a happy customer. What you did instead is repeatedly over promise and under deliver.

DTE Energy broken meter/back charges

Sometime in the end of 2012, dte told us that our meter was malfunctioning and that they were going to come out and replace it... We said ok. A little while later we get a bill for around $600! Dte claiming back payment for when their meter was not working... This is ridiculous!... Prior to dte telling us our meter was broken, I called in inquiring if something was wrong because our payments were so low. I was told nothing was wrong, "we were just doing a good job". I do not believe it is our responsibility to pay this back energy cost. It is dtes equipment and they should be liable for their equipment and what goes wrong with it. I did my due diligence and called in to the company. When I first complained about this, I was talked into a $70 a month non-shut off agreement. This however, does not cover my monthly bill, so why would they set me up this way in the first place? Shady for sure….. I have been paying $125 (What I can afford) , which would be enough for my current bills if I did not have the $600 back charges. No, I am not low income, but yes, I have other bills besides an energy bill I have to worry about. Does dte care about this?... No! Dte initailly set me this way: instead of paying the $125 they are going to increase my bill to $209 a month! This is almost 3 times the amount I am required to pay & hellip;.. I can not afford this! Do I expect to hear from anyone at dte corporate or get any help….. No, I really don’t. It would be nice for dte to take some responsibility for their part in my situation here though…..

Then... I was contacted by valencia turner-williams to discuss our account. I spoke with her on 10-3-13; I was not able to complete our conversation that day and told her I would call her back. She told me that she would grant us an inconvenience credit (We talked about 50%) due to the issues we had with dte and when I called back she would have some payment options for me. I returned her call on 10-7-13 and left a message. I called numerous times that same week and left messages. My husband even called her once or twice. I called on 10-14 and left a message. Neither of us has gotten a return phone call from her. There should not be a reason that this "customer service" representative has not had the common courtesy to call us back. I consider this stalling on the side of dte so that we will have to pay the whole amount instead of dte taking some responsibility for the bad position they have put us in. I see on my account that a payment plan has been set up. I did not agree to this. Valencia seems to think this is settled and it is definitely not! I cannot over emphasize how unimpressed I am with dtes customer service, it is horrible!

I was then contacted by earl folks on 10-15 about our account, he told me "he does not care about my situation". I can not believe dte has this kind of people working for their company. I cannot over emphasize how unimpressed I am with dtes customer service, it is horrible!

I also found out that this problem with our meter was going on for over a year! How incompetent is dte to let this go on for so long and then try to stick me with a bill that is not my fault!

A very unhappy and disappointed dte customer!

DTE Energy power outage

I wish there were another option for electricity in the suburbs of detroit because dte would never have my business! I had a heart attack two weeks ago and am home on bed rest without electricity and am now going on day 5! I have called them 5 times explaining I can't take the heat (Was 87 degrees yesterday) and the only response I get is your not on the schedule yet! I have asked to speak with a manager and they tell me she is on the other line! What kind of second class company is this? I bet we would have their attention if we quit paying our bill, i'm sure it wouldn't take them 5 days to be here to shut it off!

DTE Energy transfer of service

My husband and I were just at the Detroit (Mexican Town) facility. We were also told by a DTE customer service rep, that we would have a better resolution time if we came to the office. Last Tuesday my husband was there by himself and spoke with Rose #9. She assured him if he brought the proper paper work she would be able to correct the issue we were having. We came back up there today. It was about a 45 minute drive. I spoke with Erica #18. She was incredibly rude. Two people could not see her at the same time, so I let her know that I would like to have my husband talk to her about my account. She did not let me finish and said "Sit down". Then she asked a question, as I was answering, she said "stop talking". I was appalled! My answer was less than 3 words out before she cut me off. She then proceeded to say I can't help you before she even knew what I needed help with based on the 3 words I did get out. MY husband then spoke with her, and with the same attitude asked if he could speak with her supervisor. As we were waiting we heard her and her supervisor talking and her laughing and being loud. We were on the other side of the cubicles. It was ridiculous! Needless to say, she would not help and I had to call the friendly DTE to help and resolve my issue.
My husband and I took the day off work to resolve this issue and were met with utter disrespect.

DTE Energy appliance protection plan

I was called on the phone by someone representing herself as being with DTE Energy for an appliance home protection plan. I was given very simple information that sounded attractive. I was told all appliances would be covered and was told, without exception, that I could cancel at anytime and that all major appliances were covered. I was told nothing about their ability/policy to use discretion when fixing an appliance. They have a review policy, I later learned.

About a month or so into my participation in the program, my dishwasher quit working. The warranty company/DTE sent out a repairman who determined there were several problems. I got a call a few days later that the dishwasher would not be repaired, presumably due to the expense. I was outraged because the person on the other end of the phone when I signed up told me nothing of a review policy and that they could choose whether or not repairs would be made. When I called to complain, and cancel participation, I was informed that the contract they sent me, which I had not thoroughly read, nor signed, stated that once a service had been initiated, one could not cancel the program.

What I object to is several fold:
1) I asked if I could cancel at any time with the person with whom I spoke on the phone. I was told repeatedly, "yes."
2) I was told all major appliances were covered, and no exclusions were stated at that time.
3) I am being kept in the program because of a contract I did not sign that states that the contract supersedes all other agreements. This reeks of consumer deception and needs to be stopped. They need to tell people over the phone what the details of this program are. I cannot believe a public utility would behave this way. I am outraged to the point that my whole body is vibrating with anger.

I have been on DTE Home Protection Plan for many years. In the past, I used to get great service when any of my appliances needed repaired. That is u til the last year, something changed. I used to get a heating and cooling company when I needed service in my furnace or central air unit or a appliance repair man when I needed service on an appliance. Now they just send out DTE repair people who are have no expertise in fixing anything. They come in personal cars with a DTE sign on the car. My central air began blowing out hot air. A DTE person came out, spent 5 minutes in my backyard and told me I need a new system. He said it was leaking and DTE no longer puts Freon into these old units. I accepted his determination. But then my dryer wouldn’t start. Called DTE once again. DTE representative came out and pulled the back off, replaced an item and it still didn’t work. He then said the wires are fried. You need a new dryer. I asked if he checked the sensor. Checked the bad sensor and immediately my dryer started working. He put on a new sensor. So why did I have to tell him what to do? What happened to the wires being fried? Now this past Monday, I had to call DTE again. I’ve been here for 20 years so things are now starting to break down. This time for my hot water tank - no hot water. DTE came out and in 5 minutes he tells me he has bad news. He said my hot water tank is an old model and it couldn’t be fixed because they don’t make the parts for it anymore. He tells me I have to buy a new one. Next day, I contacted a Hot Water Tank Company. He came out next day to install a hot water tank. He immediately looked at mines and said ‘I can fix that’. He took a part off, went to his truck and got the replacement part and I now have hot water. I was about to buy a hot water heater from him! It was in his truck! He could have made more money selling me his than fixing mines! But he was honest. My story doesn’t end here. I called to cancel my DTE home protection plan of $59 a month. Now they are saying I can’t until Jan 2024 when my contract ends. I’ve been on their plan for 6 years! I don’t want to continue to pay to a company that sends out inexperienced people to tell me to buy another appliance! Now I’m in a 30 day waiting period to see IF they will cancel my policy early! Like I said before, DTE stopped sending qualified companies out and started sending out their employees with limited experience. They lie to their customers when they can’t fix the problem by telling them they need a new appliance! I’m so frustrated right now!

Had the same problem and I am pissed. I talked to 2 different representatives about upgrading from home protection to home protection plus because I had a leak from my hot water tank. They knew all about it. Told me I had to wait 15 days to call for service which I did just to be told they don't cover pre existing problems. I told this very rude representative cancel the plan and she tried to say that because I already had service under the old plan they couldn't. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that they would not cover preexisting problems but they would cancel this and put me on the regular plan then transfered me back to original rude representative who said "we will transfer u back have a good day" and hung up. This is a scam tell them you want everything in writing before signing up and shame on you dte for screwing customers over like this

As you, I am in the home protection plan, and I was told all my appliances were covered and would be replaced not just repaired and come to find out my hot water heater would not be replaced because of where I live I am just north of somewhere where they will not service north of Detroit saying that they don’t have people to repair or replace which is a lie because one of their people came right to my home. Also I was told since I have a boiler which they didn’t know I would have to pay like another seven dollars a month because boilers are harder to work on which to me I think would be a little bit easier since it’s just a hot water issue and no furnace filters. Then they offered me well we can give you $150 if you sign up for the whole protection plus for the green backs at 1995 a month extra well that math does not add up at all so if anybody get out of that program just pay our normal heating bills and have a qualified plumber or electrician or heating guy come out to our own homes they might know more what they’re doing in these guys rip off artists

I had my furnace blower motor and circuit board replaced and I had to pay $115.63 out of pocket because DTE told them they only pay up to$1000.00. My perts and labor were on list of covered items with NO OUT OF POCKET. I called Dte and they did nothing. I'm looking for new plan company now.

This is the direct email from DTE Home Protection Plan. Even verifying that their agent was at fault, they will not cover appliances. Unbelievable!

Dear Ms. Steele:

Thank you for your patience in waiting for a reply to your request. We have reviewed the conversation that took place with our agent regarding your enrollment on our program. During the conversation, our agent did inform you of a 15-day waiting period to receive service; they did not inform you of the 30-day waiting period in association with the GreenBacks coverage.

While we regret the agent's failure to provide this information, we are unable to honor your request for GreenBacks payouts for your dishwasher and clothes washer, per our Terms and Conditions.

Thank you again for contacting DTE Energy.

Regards,

For people here who say DTE customers should have read their contacts, please know that DTE is not transparent, and do not provide a contract up front. Only a solicitation letter or a call. Yes, I do expect them to pay for a $700 repair even though I only squeeze out an extra $38 from my tight budget each month. This is less than some life insurance policies, but people still expect them to cover thousands of dollars in funeral expenses.

How about you?

Would you expect your car insurance to replace a $30, 000 totaled car, when you only pay about $100-200/month on a full coverage policy? How about your health insurance company? Would you expect them to pay millions of dollars caring for you if you had something like cancer or COVID?

Please don’t minimize our experiences. We expect DTE to not act like shady snake oil salesmen. This is our respected utility company. They have to do better. We have to make them do better.

I too, have the DTE’s Home Protection Plan (ha!). Service man arrived and before even opening the refrigerator said, oh this doesn’t sound good, this is bad. Do you have greenbacks? Opened the freezer, removed the back panel and informed me I had a seal system problem not covered by my DTE “Ultímate” home protection plan. Before I invited him to leave, he, again asks (for the 3rd time), “Are you sure you don’t have greenbacks?

Now, I must also watch out for scams from my trusted utility company. Why haven’t I heard about this on the news!

Jesus! what have we become, help us all.

Have had my furnace covered for over 2 years or more. I had a request for information on if there was a program to have my furnace cleaned once a year and they said it would be a bit more than $6 a month and they would have american appliance as the company to service the furnace before it is needed when cold weather begins. american appliance changed my appointment time. I decided I would just cancel the request and cancel the additional $11 a month I pay for hpp coverage too. I can not get through to cancel. the phone either goes dead or a busy signal starts. I am very very upset. I will not give up on trying to cancel this service. I am using this form of contact since no one will talk with me on the phone.. account number is [protected] 1. I hope the home protection plus program will be canceled. I do not have a bill due until after november 16.. please take care of this. I am seeing and hearing there is lots of unsatisfied customers with this program besides me.. thank you in advance.

DTE outsources their non-gas appliance repairs. They denied repairs on my washer twice. My washer was not draining very well. The repairman told me it was probably bad bearings in the drum. When I told him the drum was spinning normally and I suspected it to be something else, he forcefully kept yanking on the drum (I actually think he was trying to break the bearings). He did not know I was watching him and I finally asked him to stop yanking on the drum. He stopped and told me it was definitely bad bearings and it was not covered under the protection plan, but his company could repair it for $425.00. Mind you, he never took the panel off the back or the front of the washer. I requested a service receipt with his diagnosis and said I would think about it (I just wanted him to leave!). I knew it wasn't the bearings. I called an appliance service company and they came out and took the panel off, removed line going to the pump and cleaned a filter that was plugged up with debris. It took him a total of 10 minutes. I was charged $85.00. I took a picture and wrote to DTE and they reimbursed me the money. What a scam!
Another washing machine repair they said was not covered, the retainer ring that holds the rubber boot in place on a front loader. OMG! That is a simple and easy repair and they said it was not covered! Scammer! I think a class action law suit should be made against them.

My problem with DTE and this APP program is this... I was signed up and paying $15/mo through my DTE bill for just the Furnace/Water Heater plan. Then in April I had a problem with my furnace. They came out, spent an immense amount of time on it, but finally got it fixed. When I received my May bill, instead of the $15 service fee for The Plan, I was billed $112.95. I have called and chatted with DTE people...I have talked to several people on the phone (one that said she was a Supervisor)...and they all say they can't figure out why I was billed for that money, but they will get to the bottom of it and get it straightened out. Several times they told me to call the APP people, and the APP people told me it's not their problem and I needed to call DTE Billing...back-and-forth I go. Then I had a guy call me from "headquarters" in Detroit (while I was at work) who left me a voicemail saying that he was working on the case and would get it figured out - not to worry he would get to the bottom of it and call me back but said I couldn't call him back because he didn't have a direct line yet. That was two weeks ago. In the meantime, DTE sends me payment reminders about my "overdue" payment and if I didn't pay it soon they were going to drop this service and that service! They say that I now owe them well over two hundred and some dollars. What's next, can they ruin my credit rating for lack of bill payment?

Extremely dissatisfied with this program! A DTE salesperson convinced us to join the DTE Energy Home Protection Plan two years ago. According to the salesperson, the program was supposed to cover service on select household appliances for $38 per month. Knowing most of our appliances were beyond the warranty program it sounded attractive. Subsequently, we had minor issues with a covered refrigerator and a covered washing machine. The issue with the refrigerator occurred in the first year and related to a ice-maker flap that was not properly sealing. DTE communicated ice-makers were not covered but I later heard from a technician we met that they changed their policy to cover them. It was disappointing that DTE did not communicate this directly. I scheduled an appointment and after waiting for three hours for the technician to arrive, he informed me that even though refrigerator ice-makers are now covered, the flap part is not covered. It is approximately a $250 repair. The issue with the washing machine was more recent related to a small tear in the seal for a front-load washing machine. Again I was told the seal repair is not covered even though it is a critical part of a working appliance. Again the repair would cost me ~$250 out of pocket. DTE insists all of the caveats of their program are included in the terms and conditions but their salesperson was not transparent about these exceptions when they engaged us. We feel like we are taken advantage of and have decided to quit the program. We paid over $750 in program costs and received zero benefit.

DTE Energy irratic electrical charges

Our electrical bill has been substantially higher than our neighbors. (We live in a condo building consisting of four other units.) Over the 20 years that we have lived in this unit, our electrical bills consistantlly run 30-50% higher than our surrounding neighbors as confirmed by DTE. There have been times when our monthly bill has actually been higher while we were out of town than when we were living in the unit! I've had the electrical meter checked by DTE representatives prior to them converting to the new electronic meters. They assured me that the meter was working properly. Since the new meters have been installed in our area, (about 3 months ago), our monthly bills seem to continue to vary widely. Are there any other folks out there who have the same or similar circumstances or am I living in Amityville?

DTE Energy fraud

Dte aloud someone to open services in my name. At the time I had a fraud alert on my social, then when I got in touch with them they asked me all the questions they were supposed to ask the thief. They then refused to send me a fraud report wen I had a police report number and actuall report they want me to pay the balance. The state of Michigan should allow other service for gas and electric. Dte takes advantage of there customers. I say we start taking advantage of them they can screw them self

As a member of the Equifax credit agency I was notified that a Detroit Edison account was opened in my name. The account number ending in ... 0011 was opened on November 1, 2014 and reported on December 1, 2014. The balance shown is $140.
FWI; I, Ronald Ginther did not open this account. I own no properties in the DTE coverage area and I do not reside in this area. My home address is in Mason, MI 48854. We have been residence here since 1978.
This is a clear case of fraud and if you would have checked with the credit reporting agencies, you would have noted that from the beginning; since I have had alerts posted since 2005. I did not initiate this account nor am I responsible for any billing for this account.

DTE Energy frequent and lengthy outages

I live in the 48223 area of Detroit, in Rosedale-Grandmont neighborhood. In my area, there are frequent power outages and the power stays off a day or more. Whenever there is so much as a basic rain storm, the power is affected. My power has been off at least four times this year alone...However, the power two blocks up going North and one block going South is still on and unaffected. Recently, from September 3rd to today, the 6th, and possibly until tomorrow, my power has been out. Out of 120, 000 customers out, over 110, 000 have been restored by my power is still out. I have lost all of my food. I have had to stay with my young child at a hotel a few nights. I had to get him and myself ready in the dark this morning, to get to work and school on time. This is the most inconvenient situation.
Apparently, DTE sent crews to help on the east coast, while its customers here have to suffer because of that decision. I applaud your willingness to help, but at the same time, the weather ALL WEEK was predicted to be severe on Saturday, and never once did it dawn on the company to get crews into place should the storm knock out power. I, as well as countless others in my area, pay our bills, are expected to pay on time, yet you don't feel as though you owe it to us to maintain our service and restore it as quickly as possible.
I look forward to moving out of Detroit, as this is one of the myriad of reasons, poor customer service, why I cannot stand to live in this environment of mediocrity any longer.

DTE Energy unprofessionalism

Today on August 31, 2011 at approximately 1:00 p.m., a DTE representative came into our Law Office to read and record our meter. Supposedly, he got locked in the back room/garage. To get our attention, your representative turned off our electricity and then turned it back on. We’re an office of approximately 20 staff members and many were working on important documents at the time your representative chose to shut off the power. His actions were very unprofessional.
Secondly, when two of our CEO’s went outside to ask him for his name and ID number, his response was, “It’s around my neck. Go f*** yourselves!” and then he proceeded to walk away to the next building. Again, very unprofessional! This needs to be taken very seriously as it was not a good representation of DTE. I am very dissatisfied with the service of this representative and expect that he is never sent out to take the reading on our meter at this firm again!

I as property owner filed for new services at the new construction at 868 hazel in Birmingham in April 2012, received the confirmation email in early May. Nothing happened. My contractor frequently contacted DTE about the new service but never got a confirmation about the start of electricity. This went on til mid August- the house was almost finished, except of course electricity reliant work as hard wood floor, heating and cooling etc. THEN came the big surprise to DTE: the original house was from 1919, meaning 3 wires. The new one only needs 2, so all existing fixtures and transformers could not be used. Surprise surprise! The solution DTE came up with mid September was a new pole in the backyard (one in every corner then- nice sight) etc to wire up to the house. I am still waiting for that to happen and today is 11/2/12 and the inside work has come to a stop and I am loosing money daily due to the sloppiness of DTE. Where can I sue them for damages ?

DTE Energy no heat

My friends gas recently was turned off in February in Michigan. A 2 year old and a disabled man along with the rest of the family. The family finally found help after a few days of frezing to pay the bill in full on a Friday, but DTE refused to turn the gas back on, because it was a weekend...I feel the is B.S., it doesn't tack that long to push a button, don't people care any more? What is this world coming to...this is a low income family from Big Rapids, Michigan, at 315 Woodward, that should be appoligized to. Next time someone has a heart felt problem, DTE needs to find a HEART!

DTE has been charging us for their appliance protection insurance since 2017. We moved out of the home that they are charging for services at Jan 6, 2017, and demolished the home in Jan 2017. We called continuously and emailed them for 6 months straight for them to cancel the appliance protection. They are charging us for 6 months service at a home that we didn't even live at. We are currently in the process of building a new home at that site and they have now tacked on $143.70 for services that they never rendered.

DTE Energy gas bill increase

Just when life can't possibly get any worse, I just received my dte energy gas bill today. Normally I pay $40 per month for gas but my bill has dramatically increased to $167.00 per month. According to dte energy, there was a & ldquo;gas rate change” and I have to pay it or they will shut it off. Crazy right, I don't recall ever receiving a notice from dte energy letting me know my gas bill would be over 4x’s what I use to pay per month. This is just so wrong, I am unemployed right now in michigan like many others. Talk about kicking somebody when their down... God knows I will be boiling water real soon. If anyone can shed some light on this subject, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michelle in trenton michigan

Clinton twp, mi office has the worst employees. Try to avoid all work possible. Put customers in hazard situations and won't handle code issues they are aware of. Agree to work and then don't complete it. They don't inspect subcontractor work and it is left as out of code. Their supervisors should be fired. Maybe after legal gets involved and the tv stations put it in the news, the work will get corrected and to proper code. Lazy DTE workers not doing their job.

DTE doesn't follow through on agreed work. They don't follow up and inspect the subcontractors they use. DTE had subcontractors out twice at my home and still don't have the work to code. I called them the first time. You would think that they would have inspected the second crews work. Nope. They know other lines in the area are not code but don't want to Enforce homeowners to bring them to code. They would rather see someone get electrocuted versus spend a few bucks to enforce and correct the problem. Maybe an attorney and/or tv station attention to get their attention is the next step.

Please help, I have had debt collectors call before and have some thick skin and it is hard to get on my nerves but this, this is making me insane and it's not even a debt collection, really, it's a bad credit warning. DTE's automated voice past due pay or receive bad credit, whatever you want to call it, has called hundreds of times, sometimes 5-6 time...

DTE Energy shut off despite payments

I've been paying DTE Energy $245.00 consistently every month (yes, even in the summer) because they enrolled me in a shutoff protection plan. I made my last payment on July 15th, but received a disconnect notice on August 13th. They will not take payments, but instead told me to call DHS ask for help with my bill. I'm unemployed and have two young children. I know if services are shut off, I'll not be able to reconnect because I'm trying to support my family on my meager UIA benefits. I could understand having my service turned off if I weren't paying my bill, but I am paying.

I am beyond frustrated! We were on a payment protection plan and missed a payment by one week so we were taken off and told to pay entire balance of $900. Well in the past 5weeks that's exactly what we have paid and now they are shutting us of for not paying occurring charges of $111. I mean what the hell! We have paid $900 in five weeks and it's taking food off our table and now they can't wait one week for us to come up with the $111? Outrageous! I mean it's only 19 degrees out!

DTE Energy billing errors & bad customer service

Over the past 10 months, dte energy has mis-read my gas meter three times resulting in outrageous charges, which I at first refused to pay. In prior years, it was common to have this happen once or twice a year.
I complained each time and was promised the problem would be fixed. It was not! Furthermore, their customer service department throws up roadblocks at every opportunity when I called, including refusing to transfer your call to a supervisor, and putting your call on endless hold to discourage you. I have also been told "sorry, there are no supervisors available today". They also ask you to repeat your service address, phone number, account information, etc. Repeatedly - again to discourage you from pursuing your complaint.
Right now, I have been waiting over a month for copies of my past bills, so I can compare them with the checks I have sent them.
Trying to escalate to a higher level in dte is futile. They do not publish phone numbers or email addresses of their employees. Everyone above the level of clerk is totally insulated from the public. I am able to email the president of the united states, but I can't contact a supervisor at dte energy!
I involved the michigan public utility commission, but they also seem to care little about customer complaints. There has been no follow-through initiative on their part to push for a resolution to my problem. It has been up to me - every time - to initiate contact and complain about the lack of resolution. They respond, but take no leadership role.
Early on, I insisted on corresponding by email so I have proof of what happened (Or didn't happen) and when. This hard-copy may be needed if this problem ever gets to court.

I am still fighting a similar charge from 2 address's ago. There was a misread on my old meter. never got addressed. claimed it came from inside. it only started when they installed a new meter. I turn off all lights etc. SO yeah, they're scammign about $1000 out of me that I've not been able to find a solution for. and now they keep accidentally withdrawing it from my bank account in full total leaving me strapped and unable to pay rent. I hate dte. i hate michigan for allowing this corrupt company from continually abusing the public with no apparent way for us to address.

DTE is unable to turn new service on as I froze Equifax, transunion and experian because of the recent Equifax hack. So now when one wants to have elec service turned on for new address - one has to unfreeze. So I did -Consumer Energy had no problem. DTE DOES! it has been a solid week since I have been on the phone with them. They insist credit still froze. Equifax and experian is unfroze - even have a confirmation #. Consumer Energy sees it is unfroze. my bank sees it as unfroze. Finally after 3 days Supervisor Lisa promised the new service would be on in my name Nov 18 2017. guesss what - they turned it off! Somebody -please tell me where I can get help. I am 70 yrs old and after a week of begging fighhting trying to make sense to DTE my nerves are shot!

Dte employees are useless. They do as little as possible to get work completed. Dte is suppose to be the one to make sure code is followed but they allow lines to run out of code and then want the customer to live with it and act Like it is not their problem to correct the way they ran them to begin with. They are a piece of s...t. Fire the supervisors.

I have been told they do this as ascam to hook former homeowners for bills on homes that have been forclosed or walked away from by the present owners.

DTE Energy dte wants payment for services I did not use

I sold my property, paid all final bills, and cancelled all landlord automatic utility transfer agreements about 10 years ago. I got a call out of the clear blue last month, april 2009, from a collection agency, alliance one, stating that i owed a balance for services used at a house i sold 10 years ago. I called dte, they sent me a fraud package, i returned it, and landlord/tenant customer care dismissed it saying that the landlord automatic transfer was never cancelled, and they would not remove me as the responsible party unless i showed them the letter from 10 years ago showing that i did cancel it. Despite the fact that i sold the property 10 years ago, and am a resident of ohio who did not use any utilities from dte in october 2008. I also sent in a title search showing i did not own that property, the suddenly claimed that it was for a balance for a different property... That was also sold 10 years ago. Both dte and alliance one have been extremely rude and will not listen to reason. I told them i have no intentions of paying a bill for utilities used by someone else, at a property i sold 10 years ago. I asked that they send me all documentation in writing showing the claim, and i have not received anything from dte or alliance one. The dte landlord automatic utility transfer policy states that dte will not charge the landlord for services used by the tenant that the tenant did not pay. Again, i have no tenants, property, or accounts with dte. Can someone help me with this? Has this happened to you? Is there someone at dte, other than landlord/tenant customer care, who can help me? In 2002 i had a near fatal accident, and no longer work anymore. I cannot afford to pay for someone else's utilities... Also, what's to say that another 10 years won't go back and the resurface again? I feel that what they are doing is unlawful, and should be reported to some organization. Can someone please help? I was an excellent customer and paid all final bills, and made sure all accounts were closed with dte. I owe nothing.
