We ordered from Thai Hutt in our Suburb, checked and triple-checked the location and what we were ordering as per the menu. We opted for pick-up.
When we got to the location, we were told by the people working there that they do not offer DoorDash Services, that it had been 'completely switched off' for some time, and had basically not received any money from DoorDash. Their manager got involved and confirmed that they have no affiliation with DoorDash and suggested I bring this up with DoorDash support.
DoorDash support rejected our request for a refund twice. The order was more than $80 - I don't know if that's a lot or a small amount to others, but it felt like a considerable amount of money to us. The agent that we tried to speak to afterwards was difficult to reach and then not helpful at all, repeatedly talking about refunds being managed by 'the system', that it was out of their hands, and to understand that this is all as per 'DoorDash Policy'.
I find it suspicious that DoorDash policy is scamming/stealing money from customers to place an order that won't exist to a merchant they are not affiliated with, and then refuse to refund the Phantom Order despite the issue being more or less their fault.
I wonder what would have happened if we had opted for delivery - would we have received an empty paper bag as they lined their pockets?
Recommendation: Do not order from DoorDash, save your cash for something more legitimate
