Dollarama Unethical Behaviour

Date: 5 March 2021
Location: 180 Sandalwood Parkway East

Had a really bad experience with the cashier at this location and we are not the ones who usually complain but this needs to be brought to attention.

An item got double scanned on being pointed out during payment time, the cashier snapped and put it on me saying you kept it at the wrong place and why did I not bring it up in the scanning process. I was taken aback but still politely asked for a refund. In return she snapped back saying "Oh its not that easy, just buy something else". Was taken aback and pointed out we do not need anything else.

Then she rudely said " step aside and then you have to wait. Will see what i can do". After she processed another couple customers, politely asked again if she could now process my refund. She got angry and again said make it easy and buy something. I again pointed out thats not an option. Everyone in the line seemed to agree.

This time she just waved her hand and asked customers in line if someone was paying cash to step up front and an older gentlemen did. She processed his stuff and opened the cash drawer and literally sort of smacked 2$ and change in my hand. Was appalled and disgusted but left.

I can say that again, this was not a question of money but behaviour. If she had been nice, we would have bought the stuff for 2$s or whatever. Instead you just lost a regular customer atleast at that location.

Do sincerely hope you take this into account and drive accountability here. I do understand these are tough times and people have bad days but taking this out to a customer in such a way is very poor attitude.

Would appreciate a response back on [protected]@hotmail.com.

Thanks

Dollarama Breaking workplace protocol.

I am an employee of store 295 in wasaga beach, I witnessed the manager break protocol by giving cash to an employee who is not only not part of the management team but went alone to the bank for rolls of change. To me this is a huge no no, cash is never done alone and part of the management team should always be present. I know I should go to my district manager but the manager Staar makes it a point to tell all of us that she is close to the dm and we dont know how to take that. I am not the only one who day this occurs, the cashier' that worked this morning saw Staar give Janice the money and her leave the store with it, both the manager and Janice have been with the company for several years and should know better.

Desired outcome: I think they should lose their jobs

Dollarama Service staff

Cynthia who is the assistant manager at the centermall in hamilton ontario is a rude unapproachable representative of your company, and should not be in the position to work in the public, let alone be an assistant manager! I was in the shop today after many rude encounters with her and moved out of her way to be polite and let her pass up the isle, and she rudely told me to get out of the way and follow the arrow which she knew had nothing to do with me going the wrong way she just wanted someone to yell at and make a spectacle out of in front of other customersthen yelled at me to keep going when I turned around and told her I was just being courteous to let her pass this is not the first nor i'm sure it will be the last encounter with this rude ignorant woman who should definitely not be working in any public situation! Your attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated regards lisa jones

Desired outcome: Remove employee

Dollarama Management

I will most likely be wrongly fired for having severe anxiety and wanting to have more than one job in the workplace. They didn't even let me tell them what the person the hired me had told me all because they weren't in good connections with that person.

Dollarama Unethical behavior

I walked into Dollarama (Trainyards branch) and I saw one of the employees working without a mask. I asked her if she could put on a mask, as this is a threat to everyone's safety. She completely dismissed me and told me that many others have complained before me. She told me I can get out if I don't like it. She even said that the head office is fully aware and in support of her decision to not wear a mask. I used to love coming in to Dollarama but because of her behavior and her disregard for her customers, I will not be shopping there again. I was not the only one to think this way. Other customers left their baskets and left the store once they saw this employee walk around without her mask. Completely unacceptable behavior!

Dollarama Management

Management sucks.
The manager at the Dollarama in Cambridge at the South Cambridge center should really be looked into regarding her scheduling and the lack of authority towards her hiring of friends. She schedules herself for closing shifts and repeatedly calls in to avoid working them and she rarely works weekends and never night shifts. The part timers she hires continually call in sick on the night shift leaving 3 employees to try to run the store. The main issue is she is so far up the area managers but that they never discipline her and she gets all the credit and bonuses for the sales and she does nothing but joke around and give preference the her friend employees. The assistant manager is no better when it comes to attendance either. She's constantly late, she leaves early and because they are friends nothing is said to her. Somebody needs to look into this action before you lose valuable employees who actually work when they are there and rarely miss time. More credit should be given to those who deserve it.
Thank you.

Shopping at Dollarama, 300 Earl Grey Drive, Unit a-24, Kanata On, K2T 1B8; NOV 30/2020 @ 13:30... Please I realize there is a lot of stress out there with this pandemic and the economy is struggling and we try to shop local when available, but in saying that I am not out there for anyone to be a punching bag for some else's bad day. This cashier was beyond rude... She did not say two words to us, as she rang out items thru she more or less was throwing the items, my husband and I do not appreciate this attitude. As a customer I do not appreciate being treated in this manner we always thank everyone who serves us and thank them for being there in these times of struggle, but believe me she did not get a thank you for us. I realize that everyone has a bad day, but being hired a cashier has to mean respect for others no matter what life throws at you. [protected]@gmail.com

Dollarama Harassment and disrespectful behaviour from dollarama staff

Please accept this letter as our formal complaint related to disrespectful and unwelcoming conduct from Dollarama employees at the Ontario St., Beamsville, Ontario location.

On Tuesday, November 3rd my 16-year-old son entered the store as he has been since Covid restrictions began. On this particular day, he was asked if he had a mask and when he answered and said that I have asthma, the employee just grunted, shrugged her shoulders at him, and turned away. My 18-year-old daughter was with him at the time and she was witness to it. Later, my son approached the counter to purchase his items, and the same employee who "greeted him" in the store was behind the counter. When he went to pay for his items, he began to hand his money to her and she very abruptly replied with, "put it on the counter!". As she clearly did not want to touch him without him wearing a mask. He did as he was told, and as she was counting it, she snottily replied, "I love change". He paid for his items and then left. My daughter, who was wearing a mask, a few minutes later also brought her items to pay at the counter and nothing was said to her when she paid with cash by the same cashier. She actually took the money right from her hand and didn't say a thing. As disturbing as this is, it continues.

When he arrived at home and explained what happened, my wife went back to the store to hopefully gain an apology for our son. At the time, the employee had gone home and the Assistant Manager, Brittany, explained that she would inform her Manager, Shelly, of the incident, call back and let us know how this would be rectified. When she didn't call back after 4 days, my wife went back to the store. She again was met with the Assistant Manager who first of all apologized for not calling back, but then explained that the cashier was not present and that we could come back on Monday, November 9th between 12:00 pm and 6:00pm with our son to finalize everything and get a formal apology. She assured us that her Manager, herself, and the cashier would be present. On Monday, my wife again went back to the store with our son, and the Assistant Manager said that nothing could be done because the Manager was not there and the cashier didn't feel comfortable apologizing in the store as she wanted to go in a back room elsewhere. In addition, because there had to be a third party present we weren't able to do this because there wouldn't have been anyone at the cash. My wife did say that this was very disappointing and unacceptable and finally had to just leave the store.

Since this incident happened my wife and I have had time to review your website and other related information with regards to how Dollarama wants to engage with their customers. We are very concerned with your staff's lack of empathy for those people who have a health condition and cannot wear a mask and are constantly harassed because of this. It certainly appears that there is a hypocritical message that Dollarama is sending through their website by stating that, "Dollarama is committed to high standards of social, environmental and ethical behaviour." This is your high standard?

One other note as stated on your website reads, "As always, let's continue to be kind and thoughtful towards one another as we navigate this new normal, to ensure everyone's health and wellbeing (taken from"Message to Customers: Covid-19 Update). I can assure you that he didn't feel this and even felt harassed and belittled.
In addition to the above, we have also read your Code of Ethics that all employees are to acknowledge and it would certainly appear that this store is not adhering to your guidelines of maintaining integrity, objectivity, and impartiality of Dollarama that your President, and CEO, Neil Rossy endorses.

And finally, from your ESG Report, dated June 2019, "a key component of talent development is performance assessment….. To encourage improvement, assess potential, and help train each employee to take on increasing responsibilities." is this how your management staff are to conduct themselves and then have a situation build to the point that becomes confrontational in front of others?

Given the aforementioned, we would like to ensure that this type of behaviour does not continue so that others do not go through this type of experience again.

We can be reached at [protected] should you need to discuss further.

Dollarama Staff complaint

Yesterday I walk into a Dollarama store at 7h30pm and there is no one in the store. Litterally I am by myself. I walk into an isle and the staff member tells me I have to follow the arrows. Seriously! I say. I'm by myself in the store. I go to the next isle and make my way back to the isle in the CORRECT direction. I ask her if I'm aloud to move back and forth in the isle if I spot something ? She loses her mind and tells me I have to leave. She tels the cashier that she needs to make sure that I leave. I pay for my stuff and leave. I would like to point out that I totally respect the mask wearing, the hand washing and the follow the arrows. But in this case, it was really a lack of common sense. FYI, stores have all removed the arrows on the floors. Any grocery has more people than this dolarama. I suggest you speak with the manager Sylvie at the store in St-Lazare, Québec. She is the one that was rude and out of line in the treatment I received. Plus, speak to your employees to have some common sense with the clients. Empty, no risk of interaction with anybody. Seriously!

Dollarama I am complaining about and employee

I am filing a complaint regarding Kimmy gray that is the key holder in the Dollarama in the plaza in St. John the Brunswick due to the lack of professional in-service that she gets her customers. When talking to a customer she's very rude very disrespectful and always going for breaks when there's lineups when she's closing she has people in the store waiting for her after she's counting all the cash registers I've noticed a few times that she's been taking things out of the store without people knowing and nobody ever said anything because everyone of those people that are in that store does the same thing. Kimmy Gray is known for stealing things and also stealing money thank you for taking the time to read this and have a great day

Dollarama Self checkout

Dollarama now forcing us to use self checkouts. I do not feel comfortable doing that especially in the middle of a pandemic. We all need to in and out asap. In addition, I don't work for dollarama. Why are they even open then? Nobody needs someone to stand there and simply point to tell customers that a self checkout is available. Last experience was at 3100 howard avenue, windsor, ontario. So very many people out of work. Shocking and disappointing. Will not be back to any of them.

Dollarama No exchange or return policy

On oct. 15th, I purchased 2 packages of "c" batteries and 2 packages of "dd" batteries. When I was picking them up off the counter I realized that I mistakenly picked up 3 "c"'s and 1 "dd" package.
I thought I could put the pack of "c"'s back and just get another "dd".
According to the cashier "there are no exchanges or returns".
Seriously?
I get the policy and if I left the store. I was just picking them up to leave the store.
Can't customers make a mistakes? Maybe they were on the wrong hooks when I picked them up? Is there never a "one off"?
I wasn't bringing back food or I hadn't even left the store!
Very poor customer service.
I would love to hear the logic of this.

Sigh here we go again, another child mistaking not getting their way as poor customer service. Maybe if you shopped with an adult they would have provided you with the correct battery? This way you would not need to return them.

If I were you I would speak to Dollarama for NOT actually activating the card. Next time to be honest don't ever buy a gift card from them. I saw Dollarama has gift cards but I buy all my gift cards from other stores.

Dollarama Manager

I've worked at dollarama for only two and a half weeks.

A new store opened in my town so we all worked like slaves.

Myself worked 10 hour days for 12 days, with the odd exception of getting to go home early twice.

They had sent more experienced people from a bigger city to come help set up the store.

Most of these experienced people were very rude. Always screaming at people, demeaning them. For quite a few of us, this was our first retail job.

Three or four of them, while working together, openly mocked physically disabled people. One of them went as far as to say she simply doesn't let them in her store at all.

Another one of the same group, verbally mocked an oriental man we worked with.

Once most of the experienced people went home, the rest that stayed got worse.

I was personally screamed at on an almost daily basis, and expected to put my all into everything I did but I was always disregarded when I would ask for a day off because I was exhausted.

When the store finally opened, I was quick to notice reoccurring inequalities.

One of the acting managers always gives people trouble for things they shouldn't be doing. Which is fine, but there are certain people she'll let do these things that are against the rules without getting in trouble.

I am one of these people, and it's hard working there knowing that there's major inequalities within my workplace.

I was favorited by one of the experienced people, he was visibly a lot older then me. He has made very inappropriate comments to me since I started working but it got significantly worse when he knew I wasn't telling anyone.

On opening day, I was dressed up in accords to the dress code, I had my makeup done, and I had redid my hair the night before. He saw me in the morning and told me how beautiful I was, and winked at me.

The next day, I was dressed up again. I had caught him staring at my bum, and when I caught him, he winked at me again. Up to this point, I've never given him any hints or signals pointing to me feeling the same way.

Later that day, he claimed he needed me to work in the back. When we were in the back, and I was on the ladder, he was constantly at the foot of the ladder staring at my bum.

At one point when he passed me a box, he called me baby. After I finished with the boxes, I had told another one of the experienced people that I didn't like working in the back. I left out the reason because I was embarrassed. She was in the break room the whole time but I am unsure if she had heard. She had told me that I didn't have a choice, and that if he needed me to do something that I needed to do it.

Later that day, I had told my manager that I didn't want to work in the back anymore and told her I didn't like working with the man. She proceeded to tell me I'd do anything I was told to do, regardless of if it was in the back or with the man.

I had a break down around noon that day because I felt dirty and gross after the encounter with the man earlier, at that point I went for lunch where I cried to my coworker. It was at that point that she brought up the stuff that happens to the other coworkers.

I am not at liberty to share their stories, but to sum it up, the acting manager that was brought in (not the highest manager in-store) has been treating the people differently. She favorites the Team Leaders. The associates are treated like garbage.. Unless they're white.

One of my coworkers had quit yesterday. She was dragged to the back and was yelled at by The Manager, and the Acting Manager for something everyone's done so much since opening. This was the only time she'd done it.

Her grandmother had talked to her in the store. Everyday since opening, I've personally had at least two family members talk to me while I was working and I've never gotten any trouble for it.

The only difference between me and her is that we aren't the same race.

After this had happened, I asked around work about the Acting manager. There are at least ten of my coworkers that have experienced or witnessed the inequalities done by our Acting manager.

Why should you get a discount. The reason that the employees are not on cash is because they have to put away buggy's full of items which selfish people like you leave behind. Honestly if you cannot afford everything put some things back. you are not required a discount because you are self checking out. If you want a discount like the employees you should also be stocking shelves, ordering merchandise, cashing out other people, helping other people find items ect.

Dollarama Self checkouts

My Dollarama is now is refusing to open a checkout unless there is a line up in store. I was directed to an area of 3 self checkouts that are not more than 2 feet a part and there are no cleaning supplies to clean the touch screen or wipe hands. I resent having to do my own checking out in the first place, I want a person to check me out, I consider that your job not mine. I will not go back to any Dollarama.
