I agree. DeVry in Colorado is the same with unqualified instructors. DeVry University is not a school it is a scam. They lure you in with the prospect of ane easy and faster route to a college degree that will improve your earning potential. That's the bait and it's a trap.

You won't get ahead. You'll end up with at best a usless education and a worthless degree and oh yeah plenty of debt. and if you don't pay them Uncle Sam does through the gaurenteed student loan program. Your credits won't transfer to a real school. Some have compared the post Devry experience to buying a new car - only you don't get the car only the payments.

These schools exist to make money, not to educate, and each one is infamous for putting out uneducated and unprepared students. DeVry, ITT, etc. are glorified diploma mills who are helping to ruin the value of a college education by flooding the job market with meaningless degrees. Every employer I've talked about this with regards these schools as a joke and some even see a "degree" from one of these as an instant disqualifier. Everyone I've talked to who has attended one of these schools has said the education was very easy and that they weren't getting much out of it.
The student is tricked into thinking that going to DeVry will put them on a stable career track when in reality they end up exactly where they were before, lacking any serious credentials but with the additional burden of tens of thousands of dollars in debt to these fraudulent institutions. These schools are out to make a fortune on the backs of desperate young men and women, some of whom are parents and most of whom are poor.
I might have a different opinion on regulation if these colleges were worth the cost and actually gave a quality education. But since that isn't the case, Regulate the hell out of them.

An inside view of DeVry's unethical business practices:
It does not surprise me the vast amounts of negativity so many shed light toward the "bottle pop" school of DeVry. As a former employee I found much contradiction among its academic curricula and self proclaimed "student help."
DeVry is a company foremost and academic institution secondarily. The admission advisors are prescribed to sell versus advise. Their goals are driven on production, or the number of enrollments they need to obtain per 8 week session. An advisor's pay is constructed about a tier system, based on the number of students enrolled each 8 week session and then rewarded monetarily twice a year during their review period. Needless to say, the business of "admission advisor" is lucrative and comes with large pay outs if one is crafty enough.
DeVry coins its institutional theme about instructors with real world experience and learning current industry standards. Unfortunately, the majority of its educational coursework and content thereof is just that, standard. In other words, developed and disbursed from their home office in Chicago. Instructors are afforded very little manuverability in content delivery or method of teaching creativity. They are bound by the SIFF (Student Interest Feedback Form), which is a subjective review by the student that gages his/her overall performance throughout that 8 week period. Too many poor SIFF reviews equates to termination; thus, many instructors are forced to deliver non-competitve, oudated material and live in fear of student reprive versus challenging the exceptional, driven student.
In my time there I saw degree programs accelerate in price. Every year their programs will increase in price. When I began a business dgree was estimated at $54, 000 and upon my departure it stood at $67, 000. DeVry does not operate on endowments, they are a publicly traded company on the S&P 400. With that being said their current stock is holding strong and Devry Inc. is extremely solvent.
It is my opinion there are many alternative and much more economical routes if you are considering degree pursuit or advancement. Explore the community college route and their Direct Transfer Agreements. Do not be fooled by one telling you that real degree education is obtainable. Explore financial aid and not simply Perkins and Stafford loans. DeVry is not considered a Washington State University and therefore cannot offer any state need grants or participate in any state worker retraining programs, or any other state grants as such.
Be cautious of your educational steps, do your homework and don't get sold! Education is just about that, its nature of learning and power of knowledge. It is my hope this review will give you that power to improve yourself and subsequent educational decisions.

Bloomberg reports that for-profit school corporations like the University of Phoenix, DeVry University and Kaplan University received a quarter of the country’s Pell Grants, the federal aid for low-income students. Yet, for-profit students account for 43 percent of those who eventually default on their loans.
Part of this is due to the fact that for-profit schools’ consumer base are disproportionately poor students and students of color who are the first in their families to go to college.
But for-profit schools have been accused of abuse. An investigation by the Governmental Accountability Office last year found that for-profit schools encouraged students to lie on their federal aid forms, claiming more dependents or failing to mention savings, so students—and then the for-profit schools—could qualify for more financial aid.

DeVry University & other for-profit schools educate less than 10 percent of all college students but get 25 percent of all Pell grants, he said. For-profit school students make up 44 percent of the federal student loan defaults. Part of this is due to the fact that for-profit schools’ consumer base are disproportionately poor students and students of color who are the first in their families to go to college.
Too many students are paying $20, 000 to $30, 000 for associate’s degrees but their diplomas aren’t landing them jobs.
“They’re no more employable than they were before and now they’re deep in debt, ” said Durbin, the assistant Senate majority leader.
For-profit schools are fighting to keep their profits and attempting to stop new regulations that would withhold federal education loans and grants from its schools with high student debt and low student loan repayments.

Reply to BIGGER problems: If there was ever a fool to write such a lame comment it must be you! Must be an illegal trying to make it in the US by fitting in. Do us all a favor; Go back to whatever country you came from.

"When America wants to attract the best talent; citizenship is granted to people from other countries"
Yeah, that's why America is known around the world for their stupidity to educates those terrorists that paid them back with gratitude on 9-11 . Of course Americans were also intelligent enough to take that "best talent" of terrorist learning how to fly into buildings never questioning why they didn't care about landing instructions.

Shaun: Just so you know; I worked there only until I found a reputable company with honest business practices since I didn't know how DeVry cheated students out of a college education. Glad I left DeVry after hearing nothing but complaints. Live & learn. My new employer said he wouldn't hire anyone with a DeVry paper mill diploma.

Response to Shaun: ( The Ignorant IDIOT who works for DeVry : Yeah I worked there too so I know who you are & what DeVry HIRES LOSERS like you to do to protect their scandalous business practices. Can hardly call these crooks an educational institution except for using naive students for their own personal interest "To Gain Profits." DeVry does that exceptionally by misusing & stealing government grants & scholarships while government bureaucrats have once again failed helping students by not regulating these corrupt businesses like DeVry. Nothing new about that as they can pay for their well paid lawyers to do the dirty work for them. The Mafia works the same way.

You stated "If you think you had problems at DeVry, why don't you try to complete your degree in the public system? Why don't you get busy with the work of finishing your degree and stop complaining about minor issues? "
For your information I knew the student well that you seem to fault but YOU obviously never knew her & don't know the details of what happened & why she chose to leave. Don't worry DeVry took care of everything like they should have before being threatened with a lawsuit so go suck your d*ck Shaun ! Keep working for the crooks that steal an education from good students leaving them without another chance to go get a college education since they steal scholarships & government grants. That's the only business DeVry is in.

MINOR SETBACK? DO YOU PERSONALLY KNOW THE STUDENT! Didn't think so. THEN KEEP YOUR BIG MOUTH SHUT ! GET YOUR NICE DEVRY PAYCHECK & BACK OFF since you have no idea who this student really is or where she DID GET HER EDUCATION ! Maybe you should have checked that first since she might just working for the government or working on a good reveal all story of DeVry's Business practices. Think about that Shaun since you might not have a job there soon. I assure you she is successful & you'd apologize if you only knew just how educated & successful. Being attacked on school property & threatened by another student leads to campus tragedies while school administrators & professors look the other way. Happens all the time. Its time to change that ! A bit of good advice Shaun is to mind your own business & look at your own mistakes & failures. Commenting against this student was one of them.

DeVry is the WORST education. They have to hire their own graduates to work in their finance offices, recruiting office, etc. Why?Because they can't get a decent paying job anywhere else with that [censored] DeVry degree except flipping hamburgers at McDonalds.

I am not a pessimist (negative person) but all schools, including Devry, seem to be ran by the same people that set up the credit card, and check cashing companies. During the Bush adinistration the government sold out to investors; opening the doors for exploitation of students. Check out the higher interest earned on student loans. No longer a protected class; the college's, not just Devry, figure "if the students don't have $$, their parents do." Exploit parents thru their children first, and then target the students themselves. Education is a product; no different then selecting toothpaste at your grocery store. There is little difference between the brands but large differences in the prices. Americans are nothing but consumers. Quality of life means very little. We are so materialistic that children will steal from parents. Companies steal from employees. Parents rate how good they are, at parenting, by how much they spend on their childs shoes. T.V. and commercials say bad attitudes and good looks get you what you want. Students cheat on exams. Some students have unfair advantages; such as fraternaty/sorority test banks. Who do we blame, The student that did not learn how to study and flunks all his/her courses or the college that keeps collecting money? When America wants to attract the best talent; citizenship is granted to people from other countries. So is it the quality of education or what you do with it?

Kathy,

I briefly attended the Orlando campus in 2002 before I had to leave due to personal circumstances. Two of the professors were qualified, professional individuals who taught the material well. One was professor Joy Easton (I think she is still there). The algebra professor was a high school teacher who taught at DeVry on Saturdays. All she did was brag about teaching at Lake Brantley High school and how our class was the same as her Algebra 2 Honors class at Lake Brantley. She spent most of the class period out in the hall, talking on the phone to her daughter who was at a swim meet. Well, all schools have good and bad instructors. Some are qualified, some are not. Whether you go to UCF, Valencia, or Herzing, it is all the same. I'm sorry to hear about your safety issues. DeVry dropped the ball on that one. But in the end you are responsible for your education and you get out of it what you put into it. Don't blame the professors.

Kathy,

I was wondering. Are you completing your degree at another university? I would suspect not. Your complaint is nothing more than your opinion about the quality of instructors...you are hardly qualified to judge the academic qualifications of any instructor. It's interesting how little it takes for you to drop out of school and give up on "your dream" of completing your degree. You have a few MINOR setbacks and then decide to give up. If you think you had problems at DeVry, why don't you try to complete your degree in the public system? Why don't you get busy with the work of finishing your degree and stop complaining about minor issues? You will never be successful at any college until you do that.
